Thanks BLM. The roundup is long overdue.
Those Wild horses are from the Old Western history ==So many kept on the
range yet roun them up protect them.BirthControl give them
shots&given a CodeTagSave those Wild Horses=thank you BLM!
What will happen when BLM does not have the to feed the wild horses in the
winter and there is a mass die off?
Let those that give them feed Adopt one for western ESQ saddle and snapple bit
with harnesss wear.Time enough to tame.
This roundup is NOT NECESSARY!!! The BLM keeps water areas closed off to wild
horses. They are lying about everything. If we let this continue, we will NOT
have any wild horses left, another extinction done by MAN...I am disapointed in
MANKIND! Birth control is NOT the answer. All that does is put mares in heat at
the wrong time of the year and babies are born in the fall and winter! WRONG!!!
BLM IS LYING TO EVERYONE!
Letting them starve & freeze to death seems more inhumane to me.
So many people do not realize that by gathering horses off an over populated
area that we are actually saving them from an inhuman death. Too many horses =
starvation, dehydration, not to mention other horses killing to gain what little
feed is left. The BLM is doing the right thing in trying to keep the population
from getting out of control. Phil, What is going to
happen to them when they run out of feed in the wild? A mass die off then it may
be to late to save the vegatation so that it can occupy what horses did make it.
I hate the idea of horse slaughter but we also have got to think about what good
it can do in getting the wild horses population where it needs to be with
healthy and strong horses.
They're not wild, they're feral. Big difference
The method and timing of the round-up may not be ideal but it needs to be done.
This issue is the same as hunting big game. If the wild herds are not thinned
then every animal is in danger of starvation, and that is not a pretty death.
Opponents of the round-ups (and hunting) are idealistic and many times ignorant.
Lets just make sure that the adoption opportunities are well advertised so that
these amazing horses can go to good homes and as few horses as possible have to
go to the slaughter house.
Some people just don't have a concept. Horse herds need to be managed.
Overpopulation is the biggest killer there is for horses. But I guess all these
animal lovers and enviromentalist have all the answers. Here's an idea
reintroduce wolves in those areas. Seems to have worked here on reducing all the
elk deer and moose in the area. Another well thought out plan by people who
don't live in affected areas or have a clue about what really happens in the
wild. Let the BLM do there job and if your really in to saving those horses
anyone can go adopt them go adopt 10 or 20 and see how much feed it takes to put
them through a winter, maybe then you will be clued in a little. Stupid people
with half witted ideas trying to waste our taxes, I'm tired of it shut up and
return to the city focus on your part of the country not ours.
Horses are not native to the western hemisphere. If the herds are
not controlled humanely by man, they will be controlled inhumanely by mother
nature. Rounding them up and caring for them is infinitley better than letting
them die a slow agonizing death from exposure, starvation & disease.

Jenny, you don't have a clue. You spout of emotional rhetoric with absolutely
NO facts to back up what you say. If we listened to you, there would not be a
single wild horse left because they would all eat themselves out of food and
then die of starvation. Good idea Jenny.
Why dont we just kill them all. Then no one would care or have a say any more.
These horses are not native. But they are dominate. They devastate the native
populations of deer, antelope, and sage hen. The BLM needs to take more.
lets look at this this way,850 sq.miles is54000+acres so 3040 horses would each
have about 1800 acres to range on,now i know nevada is the driest state but
I'd be amazed if any of these protesters are from Reno. You think hitting a
deer is bad, tell the guy who hit a horse right in front of the local High
School. Of course they had to shut down the road and high school while they put
the horse down. We love having the animals roaming the hills above our home but
the horses will be much safer if we can get them to less populated areas like
Fallon. By the way Jenny, these horses have no problem getting water. Chain
link, barbed wire, nothing keeps them out of private property. We love these
animals but this roundup will ensure that we have them around a lot longer.
inhumane? oxymoron....no?Government spends money creating and
problem and then spends money "fixing" the problem. Reminds me of what has
happened to our economy over the last 15 years...
Ray, really if you know nevada is a dry state then you should know that
not all 54000 acres have the ability to support an animal ie: water or feed so
obviously these animals all occupy a smaller area in herds since horses are herd
animals and grazing animals that means they eat nonstop.
They need to be rounded up - they are feral and not native. Why should BLM
spend millions trying to save something that shouldn't be. Wild-Horse Annie
used the school children to cause something to happen that shouldn't and now the
ranchers are trying the same thing with the children calling the USFS to get
them to let the cows back on the range. What a bunch of malarkey. If we need
to graze to stop the wildfires, leave the horses there and we won't need the
cows. The horses will die off during the winter and everyone's problems will be
solved. Don't want to hear the horse lover crying when they are starving or
they need to foot the hay bill. Repel the wildhorse law and lets eat them.
The BLM has a no win situation. They started protecting horses in behalf of
"Wild Horse Annie" and uninformed people like Jenny. Now they round them up to
save the range and put them up for adoption. But the only thing dumber than a
mustang is the man who adopts it. What is the BLM going to do with all its
horses, let them starve to death, it really is a no win situation for everyone.
The psuedo horse lovers have even gotten a law passed so horses can't be
slaughtered in the United States. I guess they think starvation is more humane.
to dave; you don't know horses very well do you?? any one will tell you a stud
has his own harem of 15 to 20 mares more or less.i have lived around wild horses
for the past 55 years and can tell you they don't herd into large groups!!bye
the way i am not an enviro either, ijust know horses&don't buy BLM CLAIMS, horses
can survive eating bark off a tree.what do you suppose the indians fed their
horses in the winter??
c'mon dave, can you see 3ooo horses in one herd??a stud will have a harem of up
to 20 mares&keep them away from others on a daily basis.,i don't know of a
tougher grazing animal than a horse.he can survive all winter eating just tree
bark, especially young cottonwood.
As a liberal environmentalist who has spent over thirty years traveling under
cover in Nevada I think the horses and burros must be culled. I've see too many
dried out corpse to count them. There is nothing more curl than letting animals
starve to death. I've seen the damage to the range lands. Burros can eat what a
bovine won't. If you think cattle grazing and stupid open range laws that make
driver libel for ranchers freely roaming herds hurt our public lands, burros are
It's clear all this spending and cruelty is to allow more cattle at our expense
for the good of their rancher buddies. I'm tired of paying for this nonsense.
Aren't you? And what of the local economies who rely on wild horse tourism? They
are crushed. No horses=no more tourists to visit mustangs in the west...
If these wild horses are starving (fat - look at the pictures) and freezing to
death as the BLM (Bureau of Livestock & Mining) claims (lies), how is it
possible for them to be multiplying at such astronomical numbers (octo-moms?).
The second these "overpopulated" animals are removed (sent to slaughter),
truckloads of cattle will be unloaded on the very same land that is too
"degraded" to support our wild equines. Some people will believe whatever they
are told without question. Educate yourselves! The truth is out there - google
it! BLM: LEAVE OUR NATIVE WILD HORSES AND BURROS ON OUR PUBLIC LANDS ALONE! THEY
DO NOT NEED TO BE MANAGED BY GREEDY LAND GRABBERS! THEY WERE HERE LONG BEFORE WE
WERE AND CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES WITHOUT THE INTERFERENCE OF HUMANS AND
WITHOUT WASTING TAXPAYERS' MONEY! THIS IS THEIR RANGELAND BY LAW! LET THEM BE!
There are lots of facts out there to support the wild horses and most of the
newspapers report what the BLM has to say when the facts are against it. There
aren't as many horses as they say there are, for one thing and they neglect to
mention how many cattle they intend to replace the horses with. And do you
realize that the land that was leagally set aside by congress for wild horses is
over run by cattle at least 100 to 1? How about we taxpayers quit paying for
ranchers to run cattle on public land and let the horses run on it where their
supposed to. Then maybe we taxpayers won't have to pay for unneccesary round
ups and feeding captured wild horses. And if they over populate and starve on
their own land then it is as nature intended. And they are a reintroduced
domestic species not feral.
There is all this talk about horses in our American history. They are no more
native then the Texas Longhorn cattle are. If we think we should save all these
ferrel horses then we should be having herds of longhorns roaming on government
land. I'm surprised someone hasn't done a comparison between or nations early
ferrel horses and cattle. As a tax payer I'm sick of paying to feed all those
mustang horses, let those that think they should be saved pay their feed bills!
Many of you commenting are correct. The BLM is caught between a rock and a hard
place. They are damned if they do round-ups and damned if they don't do
round-ups. There should be NO MORE round-ups until a long term, cost effective
plan is put in place. Deal with the horses already in holding before stockpiling
more. If they have to "gather" additional animals at a later date,(to keep them
from starving/ruining the range), so be it. It is ludicrous to take more horses
off the ranges for millions of taxpayer dollars, while there are still cattle on
the same ranges. It would be cheaper to feed the cattle.
I'm also tired of paying my taxes to feed them. I'm also tired of paying
helicopters and roundup crews and leases for land to hold the horses (and not
for a pitance either). I'm also tired of cattle getting public
lands at a pitence and a tax right-off to boot from my taxes. Your robbing
directly from me. Take the cattle off (put them on the Salazoo
lands - maybe someone will pay to watch cattle grazing?!?!) -put the horses
back, put back natural predation = COST = ZERO!No one is saying NO
MANAGMENT. Taxpayers are demanding rational management based on real science,
not leftover tampered with by the Bush Administration! Remember WMD and Irag?
BLM is just carrying on that lieing tradition to line the pockets of a few -
with OUR tax money.Cost to pay BLM overtime as they seem love to do
these roundups on holidays = ? This should be one good clue for any thinking
person!Cattle - you are next anyway - get a clue - oil, uranium,
gas, will take it all away eventually.Start your education at the

Tom, there is a simple solution. Have the welfare ranchers move their millions
of privately owned livestock onto their privately owned land. The public land
has been turned into a private feedlot. Give the wild horses back the 22 million
acres that has been taken away. You can blame the welfare ranchers for the cost
of feeding the horses in holding pens. It didn't cost anything to keep them on
their land. Read the GAO study, the cattle are ruining the ranges. Anyone with
an ounce of intelligence isn't going to believe that 20,000 horses are doing
more damage than millions and millions of livestock.
Do the math-Millions and millions of cattle vs 15,000 wild horses! They already
are starving and dying at the hands of the BLM as videotaped by the HSUS. Nearly
200 wild mustangs who had been removed from the range, fenced in, and then left
to die on a desolate ranch were found by their team at THREE STRIKE RANCH IN NB.
When Europeans reintroduced the horse to the Americas, in the 15th century, and
some of those horses escaped and formed feral herds known today as Mustangs,
they somehow managed to co-exist with wildlife. The solution:
Conduct Congressional hearings regarding the mismanagement of our wild herds and
further investigate the inability of BLM to correct the shortcomings of the
program as audited by the Government Accountability Office’s 1990, 1991
and 2008 reports. As Albert Einstein stated “The significant problems we
have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created
them.” And “in a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a
revolutionary act.” George Orwell. “The illiterate of the 21st
century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn,
unlearn, and relearn.” Alvin Toffler
My first reaction was that it was wrong to roundup these "wild" animals, but the
truth is that horses are not native to the American west. Spainards first
brought horses to the Americas hundreds of years ago, so any wild horses in
North America are descendants of once domesticated horses that ran free. They
are capable of ravaging the eco-systems if their numbers are left unchecked, and
it appears the BLM is going about their roundup in as humane a way as possible.
Considering these are not animals are not native to this habitat we have to
consider other members of the ecosystem and control their numbers.
Trevor, no argument but when there are millions and millions of cattle that
remain unchecked, how can you justify saying that 20,000 horses is over
populated? There are 7.5 million cattle, alone. We aren't asking
that a horse never be remove but when grazing is increased, like one area at
Calico by 300% last year, why are horses being removed? The BLM does not have
current data and until current range studies are done and independent population
count provided, the round-ups should be halted. They aren't doing any EAs or
EISs for adding cattle or when renewing leases. One of BLMs own employees
testified there was no range justification to remove horses in Calico. The BLM is out of control. Period.
