Amazing...I don't care who you root for--that mural is incredible! THANKS FOR
That was amazing. Creative piece of work, and a good choice for a picture!
I don't think that's gonna be great for the re-sale value of your home, but I
assume someone who drops $15K on a wall of golf tees with kids in college isn't
planning on moving any time soon. It looks like a fun project nonetheless.
Just what I thought: A BYU player has the ball and the Utes are chasing him.
Just another Cougar win!!!
As my dad would say... "money wasted like that is obscene" You couldn't just
put up a picture and then help the homeless? So many ways to help people and we
do stupid stuff like this. WOW.
Very very cool. Well done!
Wow! Amazing work!
Another great Cougar win! yewts are still our little sister.
Just the wrong teams on the mural, but cool looking.
This is amazing. Great idea to highlight it in the DesNews. However, one more
freakin' golf clich and I might puke!
You earned the money spend it how you want that is a beautiful picture.
I don't care if the picture was of Harline in the end zone (for BYU fans) or the
Sugar Bowl victory (for U fans). I think these people need to get a life.
Creative and interesting, but way, way over the top. It says loud and clear: my
life is watching football and playing golf. At least the art student got
something out of it.
Sigh.Another Cougar fan parading as someone else to make their jab
look more impressive. After all how could a Cougar fan talk any smack to a Ute
after watching them accomplish your goal last year.So basically the
equation now goes like this:Utah > TCU > Boise State > BYUOuch.
Big projects like that are worth the effort (the expense? Well, that's another
story...). They bring people together and unleash creativity towards something
profound and lasting. Very nicely done.
Mr Righteous, Get off your high horse. You contribute much less to
society by complaining about what everyone else does, and I'm sure you do
complain about EVERYONE! -James
What was BYU's goal last year?
Of all the football scenes they could have chosen, they picked a
very....interesting one.I'm not sure a fumbled snap would have been
my choice, but to each their own.
Here is a brief economics lesson for you. A man has $15,000 dollars. Instead
of giving it away so that it never amounts to more than $15,000 (as you suggest)
he gives two people a job creating a mural for his wall. The makers of the
tees, the paint, the drill and the artists themselves get paid. They in turn
buy things with the money earned and the cycle continues. More people are
benefited than if the money was just given away. The effect of the $15,000
spent is, in effect, limitless.I APPLAUD this man for providing jobs
for fellow Americans and doing his part to stregnthen our economy.
"Quest For Perfection"You've probably still got your shirt on as we
This is a great project idea. I need more info on how to do this. Do the tees
go all the way into the wall? Do you have to glue them in place? I'd love to
do this with a favorite family photo.

doesn't it Cougar fans.
Interesting that a sentence in the Mission Statement of BYU could influence so
many UofU fans. "Quest for Perfection."Instead, Oscar Meyer steals
a term used from another school, in another conference, and UofU fans are all
goo-goo over "TDS".NC: BYU 1NC: UofU 0
but, making history is much more entertaining and meaningful. Both
Utah and BYU have had their share of making history... as a Utah fan, I'm
thankful that we're currently making history (versus reliving the past). Programs ebb and flow, and I don't expect Utah to dominate (although
some of my BYU friends do believe that BYU will). All I can do is revel in the
knowledge that Utah is doing very well... that's all
While I think it's awesome that Utah has had two BCS trips, let's not forget
that BYU has a National Championship (along with a 25 game win streak) and a
Heisman Trophy. When the Utes get any or either of those, they can
start talking about how much the truth hurts.
how about posting the actual picture that was used to create the mural?
BronKo stole "Fully Invested" from "Oscar Meyer".NC: BYU 1*NC:

winning percentage.WE have the nation's longest winning streak.WE have the nations'l longest BOWL winning streak.WE have
been able to win more than 2 bowl games in a row.WE have more Bowl
wins that the tdS despite having played in fewer Bowls.WE have the
nation's highest bowl win percentage [FBS teams w/ at least 10 postseason

Conference Championships (26).WE have the most wins over BCS teams
than any non-BCS team in the nation, while you aren't even #2. Or #3. Or even
#4. Ha ha! WE have the better program. And YOU know
it!Poor sad, jealous zoob. Still livin' along the infertile banks
"BYU hasn't done anything on a national level for 25 years"??!! You are kidding
right?! Though I am a Cougar fan (that actually cheered for the Utes in the
Sugar Bow) I must reply to the ignorant Ute fan @9:19 am. Where do I start?...
Let's see, BYU finished ranked #5 in 1997 after a win over Kansas in the Cotton
Bowl (1997 was 12 years ago, not 25). A few years later BYU was the first team
"knocking" at the BCS door in 2001. Remember, the BCS criteria was more
difficult at that time and a #8 and 12-0 BYU was removed from BCS
consideration...2001 was 8 years ago [again a lesson in math for the unfortunate
Ute fan that think's BYU's national title (though impressive) was the only thing
the Cougars have done in the last 25 years]! Let's look at more recent events:
2006, 2007, 2008. All great years--national rankings each year, 2 of three
conference titles, and at least 10 wins in all three seasons! Yeah, the Cougars
have done NOTHING on a "national level" in the last 25 years"... yeah.
I think this is the most amazing thing in the whole entire world!!!! Jeff holt
is the coolest man I know!! Golf tees rock my world! Anyone who thinks this
isn't cool is totally jealous! Because it's AWESOME! It is muy delehe!
Re: TaysterBYU's National Championship is one of the most
controversial championships in the history of college football. However, this
is not to say BYU did not deserve it. BYU did somehing that the system, in
place at that time, was not designated to allow BYU a National championship. Utah's 2004 run was "similar" in regards to playing in a game, with the
system in place at the time, they were not supposed to. That first run was very
historic as no non-BCS team had or was ever supposed to play in a BCS game.
Every non-BCS team from that time has participated in the "throw-in" BCS game.
Utah going back to the BCS signaled them as the only non-BCS school to play in
these bowls twice. Another historic moment. Winning both BCS bowl games was
yet another historic moment. If you take BYU's National
Championship, Heisman Trophy winner and Utah's two BCS victories one has to
conclude that there is GREAT football being played in this state! Which school
is better? That is what makes the rivalry great! You can argue either way
forever and nobody is ever right or wrong.
Desperation is such an interesting thing. Isn't it just frustrating to have to
look back 25 years to find something to brag about. For the record, if we are
looking at history. Utah does have a national championship. It is in Basketball
and it is further back in history than you can go to brag. Wow, I am so proud of
what the Utes did in Basketball back in the 1930's. On second thought, it
is more fun to think about BSC trips twice in the past 6 years than, having to
look in the history books to find something good to talk about. "ancient
history."Go Utes. :)
Great piece of art! It's impressive that this project was completed. Most
people couldn't have made this happen. Great title as well. As you can see
from the comments on here the battle is eternal and the outcome is unknown.
This is a beautiful piece of art! I love how it unites their family, shows
creativity and is totally fun! Great job Jeff & Family! It's awesome. The story
is great too.The "Eternal Struggle" is a perfect title considering
the crazy Utah-BYU fan posting on this article. Cracking me up.
Nice job, in typical Jeff & Jenna Holt style. Nice to know some things remain
Why didn't he use a picture one of BYU's Las Vegas Bowl games. It would be more
representative of the state of their Football progam.
Too bad itsn't a picture of Max Hall throwing to his favorite target...a Utah
player.ha ha ha
Ifs and buts are great, yet they get you nothing. How many of those
teams you described finished undefeated?NONE.Some were
close, great, this isn't horseshoes. How many of those teams you
described played in a BCS game?NONE.Some were close, but
were denied. Utah was the original BCS buster, no matter how BYU fans want to
twist that fact.Cougars have been good, just not great for 25 years
now. While the Utes have now been GREAT twice in the last 5
seasons. Those are the facts. BYU = Close, but not quite close
enough.2010 Motto - "Quest to try and do what Utah has done, again."
Again I have to chuckle at the Zoobs who are still hanging their hats on the
National Championship of 25 years ago. That would be quite depressing to know
that is all you have...Try doing something positive in this century
for a change like your Big Bro's. 2 BCS bowl victories and undefeated seasons
in the past 6!!!GO UTES!!
You don't know your own history.(1) The Cotton Bowl was played
01-01-97, and the final rankings came out a week later. However, that season
was the '96 season. In the tdS' followed up that team with a 6-5 season for
'97, and didn't get a bowl invitation.(2) The tdS played Kansas'
chief rival, the #14 ranked Kansas St. Wildcats, in the Cotton Bowl. Needing a
late 4th qtr rally to beat KSU by 4 pts, it is fortunate the tdS didn't have to
face a top-10 program like the ones Utah and Boise St. faced. Otherwise, it
would have been another "Hawai'i-in-the-Sugar-Bowl" debacle. The tdS only beat
one other ranked team that year [#22 Wyoming, and in O/T], having lost to #16
Washington earlier in the season. Since that '96 season, the tdS has beaten
only ONE other team finishing ranked in the final polls. And that was TCU in
'06. The Utes beat them that year too.(3) The tdS played Kansas in
the '92 Aloha Bowl. And in following their true roots, and playing to their
"tradition" they LOST.
To: 10:28 AMAfraid to use your real name? Care to prove Utah's
NC?Does Gary Crowton still have as many Conference Championships as
Kyle Wittingham doeas as HC?Good for Utah going to the BCS and
winning their games. Too bad the current system doesn't allow BYU, UofU, or BSU
a fair chance to play for an NC title today. Your "non-astric" championship
isn't even a championship.

Strong Work! Quite the Nachas!
Gotta tell you that mural is waaaaay cool!Congrats on your creative
stroke of genius!
Not afraid to use my name [David Anderson]Proof of Utah's NC:(a) Go up to the Utah football trophy case in SLC. It's the shiny one
that says "2008 Football National Champions".or(b) Type
"Fanspoll 2008" as your keyword search item in your Google browser.Yep, Crowton has as many conference championships was Whittingham. Except
Whittingham actually went undefeated, merited a BCS bowl bid, beat 4 ranked
opponents [2 in the Top-10] and finished ranked #2 in the final polls. Best
Crowton could do was rise to #8 in the BCS standings on a watered-down schedule
before losing to Hawai'i. The ONLY ranked team Crowton played all season was
#17 Louisville in the Liberty Bowl. And, as per tdS "tradition", the "why?"
LOST. Crowton finished that season unranked. Makes no difference who's
coaching the tdS, they just can't win the big game.BTW: How did you
misspell "asterisk" [astric?] when I spelled it correctly FOR you?
Utah finished 4th in the BCS poll and according to all the Utah posts I see it's
all about the BCS.
The BCS poll determines which teams are eligible for the National Championship,
and whether or not any non-AQ team qualifies for an automatic bid. Once the
Bowls have been played, there is no need for the BCS poll. Hence, there IS no
"final" poll. The Utes finished 4th in the USA Today poll, but
finished 2nd in the AP.
David Anderson:Sorry, Utah is not recoginzed as the 2008 NC. It
doesn't matter "who" made the trophy. No one recognizes that they are the 2008
NC outside of UofU fans. Thanks for pointing out my spelling errors.
Proves that you are better than me.
Actually the Utes finished 6th in the final BCS poll, but that poll is finalized
BEFORE the bowl games are played. There really IS no "final BCS poll".The Utes finished #4 in the USA Today Poll, but #2 in the AP and ESPN.com
polls, and #1 in the Fanspoll, Collegefootballtalk, and 4 of the 6 computer
polls.Don't be sour that your school never qualified for the BCS.
Your school only managed to climb into the #8 position in 2001 before finishing
your 2-game slide vs. unranked Hawai'i and #17 Louisville in the Liberty Bowl.
You finished unranked that year. In 2008 you climbed all the way up to #14
after Utah beat TCU, but then went on another 2 game slide losing to #2 Utah,
and unranked Arizona in the Las Vegas Bowl. In both of those years, you lost to
all the ranked teams, and both bowl opponents, and beat only the soft/mediocre
ones. You really ARE a paper tiger. The tdS was never worthy of a
BCS Bowl bid. They have NEVER qualified. NEVER! But they whine and cry like
they had been victimized.48-24GO UTES!!!
Sorry, Utah IS recognized as the 2008 NC, and in 2 polls: Fanspoll and
Collegefootballtalk. It's a legitimate honor that was earned on the playing
field. Since the NCAA doesn't grant an official Nat'l Championship, there
really IS no officially recognized champion. The AP and USA Today polls are
recognized by the media and the coaches, and they VOTED for Florida. It wasn't
a unanimous title since the title was based on VOTES. To assume they are the
ONLY valid award granting institutions is elitist and unsound. Fanspoll and
Collegefootballtalk have been around for at least 4 yrs that I know of and have
been granting National Trophies during that timeframe. Fanspoll and
Collegefootballtalk are also titles conferred via VOTES. If the AP and USA
Today can VOTE for a champion, so can ANY OTHER national media publication.
Their trophies have been accepted and "recognized" by Texas, Auburn, USC, and
Florida. It can be argued that since Utah didn't "back into" a Nat'l
Title like the tdS did in '84, it is of higher significance. The
trophy is in the case. The title is in the books. You can't take that away.
I mistyped: The trophies have been recognized by Auburn , Texas ,
Florida , and LSU ; not USC.And Utah
I love all the lib's saying this is a waste of money. Hey lib's no one tells you
what to do w/ your resources, except your lame govt, leave everyone else alone.
The USA Today poll is the final BCS poll. Coaches are required (contracted) to
vote for the winner of the BCS Championship game.
Coaches are not "contracted" to vote the BCS Nat'l Champion #1. That's why
Coach Whittingham got away with his sole vote for the Utes. The USA
Today poll is NOT the final BCS poll. Go to ESPN's website, click the Rankings
link, and select BCS from the drop down menu to see for yourself.
Looks like the 2006 game, the only thing missing is Harline's making his final
catch of the day.
i hate byu
Way to go Jenna and Cory! The work you put into this mural takes so much talent!
Jenna your work is amazing!
I am a Ute fan, and I hope that fellow Ute fans realize that going to the Las
Vegas Bowl, is a good thing. They get their first pick of Mountain West teams
and they always pick BYU. I dare say that there are some schools that BYU would
be picked over, even if those schools won the conference! If Utah were to keep
winning the conference and not be ranked high enough to get to a BCS game, they
would MOST LIKELY be going to Vegas! I just think that all of this Raggin on
BYU about the Vegas Bowl could come back to bite us.
I'm a Ute fan too. And I don't see anything inappropriate about ripping on the
tdS and/or the Las Vegas Bowl. First of all, the tdS always as
these visions of grandeur that they'll be playing in a BCS Bowl, or even the
National Championship. Even the zoobiest of zoobies knows neither of those
games will be played in Las Vegas. Ripping on them about seeing them in Sin
City is salting their wounded ego that they'll never play in either of those
big-stage Bowl games...at least not without the MWC finally receiving AQ
status.Second of all, the Las Vegas Bowl has already lost all
credible impartiality since the tdS had only won 2 conference championships in
the last 4 yrs, but played in 4 Las Vegas Bowls nonetheless. TCU won the
conference in '05, and was ranked in the Top-15, but the LV Bowl committee
selected the 6-6 cougars anyway. In '08, the tdS finished 3rd in the
conference. The Utes went to the Sugar Bowl, and despite being ranked in the
Top-15 again (#11 to be exact), the LV Bowl committee selected the cougars
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS*BYU=1Utah=0*(???) - BYU won a

how can you be proud of that? Not me, I'd rather win BCS bowl games than be

are true championship caliber teams!
Wow. What a wall full of golf tees won't do to some folks. At least in their
combined smallness, the tees create something magical. Too bad the same can't be
said for those who's opinion is their world. Go Zoobs! Go Yewts! May we all
enjoy many more years of a great rivalry. It's a lot of fun if you don't take it
too seriously. BTW...great mural.

The best bowl Utah will ever get from now on is the motor city bowl. Delusional
Ute fans will never get the privilege of going to the Las Vegas bowl because
they'll never win another conference championship.Remember all the

The national championship argument is stupid. It proves nothing. The Milwaukee
Bucks won the NBA finals in 1971. Who cares? The Jazz, who have never won a
title, are still unanimously considered a better team by pretty much everyone in
the nation. Sorry, all that matters is now.
