I look at this list and say....You have got to be kidding me! $16 mil for AK?
Wow!!! These guys are all overpaid. Maybe they should tie pay to performance. I
am sure the Boozer would really like that one, especially considering he has a
hard time even being on the floor.
trade Boozer for role players and future draft picks, that will save the Jazz
some salary cap, plus the fact that we can get rid of Boozer! Boozer will be
gone anyway after next season, so why stick with him?.. it's not pretty to see
Boozer playing only beacuse he has no choice but to play for the Jazz,
of the 3 best teams in the West at the 1/2 next season, I would expect a
trade(s) to lower the luxury tax. Harp's salary is non guaranteed,
only the guaranteed part counts. He will likely be traded for draft picks to cut
the Lux tax. That might save 5+ mill. If Korver, Boozer or Okur under perform
they can be traded for better players who make 25% less. The Jazz in
years past have over paid their role players and also over paid their key
players. SA does not do that. How many teams have a PG with a max salary (Utah,
NO, DAL, ?)? The Sloan system is very expensive as it over pays PGs and Vet Role
Players.I had hoped that Suton would make the team. The Jazz may
send him to Europe for a season. Maybe he could sign with the flash for a year
(not sure on that rule). The Jazz can handle this problem for a year.
The can also use the opt outs as an opportunity to replace expensive players
with better cheaper players. AK's contract is expiring in about a year and can
be moved then.
As I read between the lines of the statements of various Jazz officials, it
seems that they are willing to keep the team together (including Millsap) for
one more season despite the fact that doing so will cost the franchise dearly in
luxury tax dollars. However, at the end of next season, there will be
many Jazz contracts coming to an end which will coincide will a projected talent
rich draft and perhaps the best free agent class of all time. So,
even if this coming season does not see the team go deep into the playoffs, the
Jazz will have the opportunity to overhaul the team in quick fashion.
at least one minor change. Collins will not be back which means Sloan can't play
him. They did sign Fez which means they realize he has talent and can play.I hope the Jazz learned with Millsap. They knew how talented he was.
They should have got a cheap contract in place during last season when Boozer
indicated he was opting out. The Jazz need a shooting SG. If they
are going to keep Brewer they need to get the contract done before he opts out
and cost them more. If not then it does not matter. I hope Suton
makes the team. I see a lot of potential. He can rebound, play defense and shoot
as well as Okur. Sloan will insist on Price but Suton may be a lot more
important to the Jazz next year if Boozer or Okur are gone or if Millsap goes
now. Koufos could replace Millsap this year if necessary.
You're dreaming in thinking Koufas can replace Millsap. What team do you watch?
Koufas didn't even play or break the rotation the last three months of the
season. The Jazz need to be careful about overpaying Millsap at the expense of
saving $$ for one season. The nice part is that Boozer is now very attractive
trade bait with his expiring contract. I'm willing to bet Jazz brass have some
plans already in place - set to be put in motion - now that players have made
their decisions. Personally, I hope they can find a way to keep Price and
Collins. Price has feistiness and Collins has toughness - something the Jazz
lacked oh say, most of last year.
Collins has toughness? He played in 26 games last season and took a few
charges. That is the extent of his toughness. Jarron was a decent sub for many
years. Age and injuries have caught up to him. I think Suton, Fesenko or Koufos
can adequately replace Jarron's limited minutes. In fact, if Boozer,
AK, Millsap and Okur are all healthy, then those four get all the minutes at the
4 and 5 (Boozer plays center for 10 mins when Okur rests).I agree w/
"Unless the Jazz are one." It is possible the Jazz make a few moves. KOC has
until the trade deadline to shed salaries. Maybe the team offers Boozer to
Detroit for draft picks. AI was a rental for them last year. Pistons could
audition Carlos to see if he's a good fit, then offer him a contract if they
can't attract LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Bosh, etc. next summer.First
priority, though, is to get Millsap under contract. I think he and David Lee are
going to find their market value is closer to the $8M range. Better for Paul and
his uncle to discover that than fell like KOC is undercutting them.
Jarron was a smart ball player. The Jazz will miss his ability to run the
offense (I also heard he was a HUGE help in practice)Most overpaid
players on the Jazz are1. AK- 16 mil?2. Matt Harpring- I love the
guy, but he not worth 6 mil3. Korver- Shot 44? Just compare him to
other sharp shooters in the league that get payed $2mil. They catch fire more
often, do more damage, and play better defense. I have been impressed w/
Korvers toughness... hopefully he'll have a better year.4. Boozer- Yes
$12million is too much for him. If he stayed healthy, I would say its about
That these guys are over paid is the understatement of the century, but who
didn't already know that?
Wow. If you do the math, Fesenko gets $12,000 for watching a Jazz game. Sign me
There are two problems here. One is AK, the other is Miles. No way the Jazz
should have matched Miles' contract last year. He could easily be replaced;
even by a very cheap Morris Almond. AK's contract is just a joke. He'll earn a
higher base salary than LeBron next season. Also, the Jazz HAVE to keep
Millsap. Why can't they offer him a contract that is loaded on the back end?
That would pay him market value and save luxury tax money this season.
Boozer and Okur have the same amount of salary as do Harpring and AK..Which two
do you want on your floor. Smarten up KOC.
Somehow, the Jazz have always failed at putting together a complete team. After
Booz went out last season, I saw a bunch of young guys grind out games and
mature. It wasn't great, but it was inspirational. When AK came back after
injuries, he meshed. When Booz came back, seems like the whole team started a
downhill spiral. He's slow and fragile and took the team out of their flow. I
believe he's peaked out as a starter PF. Sloan should've made him earn back his
minutes. Milsap was doing just fine. Deron is the anchor of the Jazz and the
greatness as well as being a natural leader. Let him choose who he wants to
play around him, and if we can get those players, I would bet on a championship.
Booz needs to leave. Period.
good comment. Jazz need to kept Millsap. Have a lower salary this year he gets
a raise next year. Millsap is a good young player and Jazz can't let him go.
Do a sign and trade with Boozer and AK can play some at 4 where he fits best
with Millsap still getting his minutes. I hope the Jazz are careful because
with this economy and the other Miller business (car)hurting I would be very
careful what I do. I would hate for them to become the seattle Sonics and have
to move the team because they didn't see the writing on the wall. It only takes
1-3 years to have that happen. I do not think that would happen because they
are well supported by the community and they can handle losses because of the
other businesses can make up for it.
Trade AK and our 2010 first round pick we acquired from the Knicks via Phoenix
for Chris Bosh. Toronto has to worry that Bosh will opt out in 2010 and go
elsewhere. AK is under contract through the 2010-2011 season so that might be a
hard sell, but that first round pick could be a valuable asset to a team like
Toronto who will always have a tough time attracting top free agents. Some may
argue that the first round pick is too valuable since the Knicks will likely be
a lottery team next year.
I have said for almost a year that I can't understand why the entire state of
utah seems to hate Boozer and almost no one complains about AK. The enitre cap
problem is the fault of AK's contract and ultimatley his lack of production. AK
is killing this team, not to mention jerry sloan.
Why is it that so many fans want the elite Fantasy team. Most of the coaches
have figured out that you need DEFENSE to play this game and offense with take
care of its self. I agree the AK has worn out his usefulness and needs to GO!!
CJ is an alright player but definately not worth what they are paying him. KEEP
Brewer, and Almond. DON'T trade that Knicks 1st round pick if they have to use
any trade they should use their own 1st round pick. WE NEED MORE DEFENSIVE
MINDED PLAYERs!!!!!!!! Use the knocks 1st round pick to get a great BIG #5
All this shows is HOW MUCH the JAZZ MANAGEMENT over-value the talent on their
There are 3 contracts on there that are really crippling the Jazz. Obviously
AK's deal but add in Harprings (who has missed as many games as Boozer plus
contributes to other teams 2's and 3's having huge offensive games against us
cause of his slow footedness) and CJ Miles who Sloan won't let stay on the court
long enough to contribute. I would much rather play an offensive stud in Boozer
(who is thrown under the bus for trying to make a financial decision that we
would all make) than let Harpring sniff the floor. To quote my favorite writer
"Harpring's expiring contract" can now be added in any number of trades to
lessen our payroll and keep the proven talent that when healthy went to the
finals 2 years ago.
Jazz need picks. They have the knicks 1st round and could get a another for
booz. Either that or a shooter. Maybe hamilton?
