OUT WITH THE OLD! what will it take to get the message to the Republicans? At
least there are NEW leaders now!
Bob Bennett promised to serve only two terms but is now asking for his FOURTH.
He is a liar. He is an old, old man desperately clingly to power. He wants to
buy votes, lecture constituents and champion earmarks for parking garages and
butterfly studies. The country has gone downhill since Bennett was elected, and
he deserves some of the blame. We need ANYONE but Bennett, Republican or
The delegates who cheered Shurtleff did so because they are desperate for an
alternative to Bennett. But do they really think that the guy who endorsed
McCain and headed up his campaign in Utah, while standing firm with illegal
immigrants in this state, is going to be more conservative than the incumbent
senator? All I can say is that they are as easily fooled by Shurtleff as they
were when they nominated Huntsman as a conservative.
Things will never change with these Old Republicans, Hatch 33 years and Bennett
15. They both need to retire and get some new Blood in Washington to represent
the state. They both look half dead and can't seem to stay away to get things
done. Get someone new in there now and out with these old Farts
They both increased their power and need to be voted out. They both turned
their backs on us. Bennett collected favors galore and Hatch was Ted Kennedy's
puppy dog. Vote them out!!! Lets ask them to never serve in public office
again by having our voices heard. Lets get Bennett out this election by voting
in Mark Shurtliff.
Looks like the Republican party is self-destructing. Booing each other for not
being conservative enough. This is going to leave the door wide open for some
Moderate Democrats to step right in and take over. Thanks GOP for your
should of been thrown out long ago. They are just members of the Good Old Boys
this, "the turn of the tides?"interesting....
Senator Hatch has been in office for way too long -- too many compromises -- to
be very attractive at this stage. The friendship with Kennedy is the least of
his issues. Both he and Bennett functioned as enablers for the excesses of the
Bush II administration. Plenty of political talent in this state.
No need for any senator to stay on longer than 18 years.
Bailout Bob now claims he's a conservative. The only problem is that is only a
small part of his problem. The bigger problem is that he's been in DC way too
long. Everything has gotten worse on his watch. I will vote for anyone over
him. And I mean anyone. So Bob, don't worry about attacking your opponents.
It aint about them. It's about you.
Oh please! You elect a new Senator and he spends years just trying to learn
what is going on in his state. As much as I dislike our 2 Good Old Boys, they
do a lot for this state. Somethings never change and the people in
Washington are the same. But who gets things done for the state, would that be
Jason C? That knucklehead is so clueless. Well, come to think of it - your all
We are much better off with senators with senority who are not as conservative
on a few issues than with someone like Shurtleff who will have no senority and
lacks the intellectual firepower to get anything done.
ironic you say "your all clueless," while at the same time spelling "your're"
I was at the convention as a delegate and I was undecided about Shurtleff and
Bennett, but now I am all for Bennett. I was impressed with his speech, his
friendly volunteers, and his willingness to answer every question that was
raised. I stood and watched him answer question after question- always taking
the time to listen to everyone. I left realizing that we can't throw good people
like him out! We need Bennett in the Senate!
Are these your democrat talking points that you continue to copy and paste in
every conservative political article that comes out in this newspaper? Are you being paid to repeat moderate, moderate, moderate, democrat, democrat,
democrat, GOP meltdown, and GOP bickering, or are you simply clueless? So called moderates dominate congress on both sides, and you can see what they
have done to this nation in the space of not many years.Democrats
control congress not because of their moderate or liberal views, but because
conservatives punished rinos. In other words they would prefer an honest fool to
a lying 2 faced fool.
My ire is saved for Bernick. The convention meets to elect new leaders, and he
spends the whole article trying to drum up every implication and innuendo that
might support his 'angry conservative' meme, that he can't let go. And then
finally in the last two paragraphs vaguely alludes to who beat their
opponents.DNews, could you please assign an actual reporter to these
events, and put Bernick in a pure political column, where he can't pretend he's
Really?By doing a lot for this state I'm assuming that you mean
bringing home the bacon and putting it on the backs of our fellow Americans in
other states. By doing a lot I assume you mean we are doing our part in
contributing to the Mt Everest of debt that everybody is now complaining about.
You apparently believe in Washington's old OPM (Other Peoples Money)
mentality that they have adopted to justify there doing a lot for their
states. No wonder the GOP has no identity. They forgot that we
believed in being self sufficient, and not being dependent on government
especially the federal government. No sir, YOU ARE CLUELESS!
Is that you Bob or one of your staff?
I was at the convention as a delegate and was very impressed with Shurtleff.
He's articulate, consistent, and focused on exactly what he wants to accomplish.
I was disappointed in Sen Bennett and his vote for TARP. He himself
has said that he was the architect of the greatest government grab in history. I
can't in my right mind support someone like that.I'm for Shurtleff!
You just lost one of your best people to China. The extreme right
wing just doesn't cut it anymore. The world has changed around you
and you don't know it. Look at the demographics, angry white men are a
We need Bennett out and we need him out NOW!! We can't afford illegal alien
amnesty at a time with millions of Americans out of work and local governments
going broke, they (illegals)are a large part of the reason and Bennett is
bending over backward to reward them at every turn. He needs to go, he is not a
Republican, he is a Democrat and I for one will vote for a real Democrat rather
than an imitation one like Bennett or Shurtleff. Enforcement is the solution,
illgeals will go when you take away jobs and free services, you don't need to
deport them, neither one of these two hacks are going to do anything about it.
terms as a senator or congressman, I think they ALL forget what they are even
doing there. Whatever motivated them to run in the first place is history, and a
new sinister motivation is what guides them now. Term limits for these guys
(congress and senate) would do and enormous amount of good for this country.
Why are Republicans cheering strongly for Shurtleff? Is it because they will
take any Republican to replace Bennett? Is it because Shurtleff happens to have
some name recognition after having served an unremarkable term as State AG?Shurtleff is not the intelligent, true conservative that can communicate
and fight for what Utah values. Look at his statements. Study his record,
comments and work in office! You will find someone very much like Huntsman...a
RINO.There are many Republicans currently in office in Utah that
will talk the conservative talk, but walk a very different path. Don't look to
replace Bennett and Hatch with someone who "talks" conservative but doesn't
truly behave or vote as a conservative. Shurtleff is not our man.Be
patient and study the other candidates that are present or will arise.
I love how that's your counter argument. No I am not a staffer or anything else.
I am a delegate and was at the Convention today. Something you probably couldn't
get off your computer to come participate in.
I'll tell you why I'm excited about Shurtleff - as the previous poster said,
he's consistent. You may disagree with him on some issues but when the dust
settles, he says how he feels and can tell you why he's done something. I was at the convention today and heard Eagar say, "Issues don't matter.
Principles are all that matter." Are you serious? The only people who say this
are ones who don't know anything about issues. She's more interested in selling
books than running. She used the convention as a marketing tool. Did you see her
campaign material and shirts? Her shirts had a picture of herself on the front
and under it you read, "Only beauty..." and the back read, "...can tame the
savage beast."She thinks that much of herself to put her face on the
front of the shirts - gag.
Both of these guys need to go!Hatch campaigned against Moss is 1976
using Moss' 18 years of service as a negative ... & now Hatch has 33 years ...
he has lost more contact with his state!Bennett is just starting his
kissing-up to Utahns, but I will do everything to remind the people what he has
done with wasting taxpayer money!
Why aren't we incensed because Sen. Bennett was a leading member of the banking
committee and voted for deregulation of the banks that has lead to economic
chaos in our country? Why aren't his constituents furious that he voted AGAINST
better regulating the credit card industry? Why aren't voters outraged that
Sen. Bennett and Sen. Hatch has driven our country into a major economic
How sad that the delegates didn't have the courage to boo the senators who have
voted for EVERY BAILOUT, EVERY bloated spending bill, EVERY power grab by the
federal "government," (hatch helped write the satanic "patriot" act) and on and
on. Hatch and bennett are part of the D.C./NY establishment and they DON'T
represent us at all.To top it off, hatch and bennett are ready to
become rubber stamps for a racist, sexist, far left activist, nominee for the
supreme court. Sotomeyor rules based on her feelings and believes that she can
make up law from the bench to SUIT those feelings. Hatch and Bennett don't seem
to have a problem with her.
Shurtleff knows the talk. But he is a simpleton. He is not intelligent, nor
historic. Be patient and wait for someone better to come along in this election
cycle. I hope someone will.
Shurtleff is the most arrogant politician in Utah. He will be indicted before
the campaign is over. Check out his record and you will see bad judgement, lies,
corruption, and donations from companies under investigation.
I wouldn't say that Shurtleff isn't intelligent. That's a little too harsh for
my blood. They guy is an attorney and Utah's AG, he's smart. Let's be accurate
and not accusing. He's a savvy guy that's going after a seat he has a very good
chance of winning. Bennett's time is up. Eagar doesn't, and she'll tell you,
know the issues. Shurtleff has my support.
Bennett is a nice guy who will listen and tell you what you want to hear. And
when he gets back to DC he will ignore all the conservative talking he did and
vote to go along to get along with the rest of the liberals there. To quote
Orrin Hatch: "What do you call a senator who has been there for 18 years? You
call him home!" Time for Bennett to go home. We cannot afford him mortgage
more of our kids' future with more bailouts.Shurtleff is not perfect
on every issue, but he is consistent and fights for what he believes in. I
respect that, and I respect him. He is a conservative on most issues, and I
will be voting for him (hopefully as a delegate). As for what's her
name, the Cleon Skousen fan, we don't need people like that. We need people who
have proven time in public office who we can count on to do as they say they
will do.BENNETT OUT IN 2010, HATCH OUT IN 2012!
Accepting tobacco money while belonging to a faith that doctrine says to avoid
tobacco.... do to conspiring men in these days.
It is still early and more candidates may come forward other than Shutluff and
Bennett. For example, Cheryln Egar just announced yesterday, not that she has
much of a chance. As for Bennett it is time for him to go, even
though Mark Shurtluff isn't much of a choice. No matter who is chosen it will be
an uphill battle for any liberal Utah democrat in the general election. In my
opinion there is no such thing as a "Moderate" Democrat.Senator
Bennett's main problems have been:1. Voted for the Immigration Reform
Bill of 2007, commonly referred to as the "Amnesty" Bill.2. He has been
on the Senate Banking Committee since 1993 and through the years when
Republicans controlled both the Congress and Presidency. He was supposed to be
looking out for us. Instead he went along with the democrats and bankers. 3. He voted for the TARP last fall.
I can't believe your Shurtleff people. He's an embarassment. He has not a clue
about Washington politics. SOme of you rednecks will say, "that's right" as if
that's a virtue. Meanwhile, Utah will get marginalized by sending "burning in
the bosom" rock-ribbed bomb throwers to Washington. Bennett has the seniority
and respect of his peers to be able to influence them to work in Utah's best
interests. he is also Utah's ONLY appropriations committee member. Some of you
don't know what that even means but they're the ones who actually control the
federal purse strings. Yea, I get irritated at him sometimes, but if you have
a racehorse who wins 8 out of 10 races for you, you don't shoot them over the 2
that they don't. Bennett is a great senator who works hard for Utah. He's
principled and has done a great job, even if he doesn't get out there and
"tweet" or toot his own horn. Utah is very lucky to have one like him in there.
Senator Bennett is pragmatic and effective, while still remembering our core
values of small government and strong families. These
ultra-conservatives from the fringe will never achieve anything on the national
level in today's complex issues.
It is hard to imagine any three Republicans who have more effectively
represented their party and the state than Hatch, Bennett, and Cannon.Imagine the excitement of having more people like Mr. Chaffetz represent the
state.Throw reason to the wind and release the inmates from the
asylum. Make certain the state is a pariah with absolutely no voice and no
respect on the national stage.I can't wait until the next
press-release that announces Mr. Chaffetz makes certain to have Mr. Bishop affix
a clown's nose to his face just before he votes.A pretty great
Sure, "Out with the old!" and in 18 to 20 years when our new senators have any
seniority and start to have some influence and respect, you will say the same
thing. Radicals do not prosper in the long run because real
solutions require more than one-line recitations of dogma--as seen from the
far-right in Utah.
It's hilarious that Shurtleff is trying to position himself as a conservative to
run against Bennett. Bennett's no conservative, but it would be hard to find a
Republican in Utah who is less conservative than Shurtleff. If he beats Bennett
in the convention my suspicions will be confirmed that Utah has the most
clueless GOP in the country. If there's a primary election you can bet that the
people will be smarter than to elect an AG who has distinguished himself as
fluff and puff.
The problem we have in this country with our politicians is they are all in
office too long and then they get addicted to the power and serve themselves
and special interests with the money.Vote them out, we have too many
80+ year old senators already!Tim Bridgewater is running too isn't
I'm voting for Shurtleff. I love the guy. He's a great communicator, a good
person, a loud voice, a fiscal conservative and has done more to influence
things for good in this state than anyone I can think of.GO MARK!!
Look at whether they really believe in liberty. Ask Shurtleff about religious
liberty - why does he persecute unpopular religions? Ask Hatch about academic
liberty - why does he join with Hollywood in trying to stop the free interchange
of information? These two are certainly against liberty on these two points.Secondly, conservatives complain about over-regulation, government
interfering in the marketplace, and stupid bureaucrats making bad decisions.
However, they somehow feel they should restrict the liberty of foreigners who
come looking for a job. Further, they use an article of faith of the LDS church
to justify their stand when the Church has taken the side of the immigrants, and
the anti-immigrant stand greatly hampers the mission of the church. If you are
truly conservative, why don't you apply the same logic to the immigration
department? It is two-faced, and goes against the counsel of the church you
claim to believe in.
Last time I saw Shurtleff as convention telling us who we needed to vote for, it
was an arrogant neophyte under-educated state legislator who wanted to be state
treasurer because powerful people told hm that's what he wanted to be.
Shurtleff's endorsement of and $10,000 given to Mark Walker didn't turn out so
well for him.The problem for Shurtleff with me as a delegate is that
I trust his judgement in his pick for Utah Senator this year (meaning himself)
as much as I did his pick for State Treasurer last year. Shurtleff's speech announcing his candidacy was the single worst piece of
shameless self promotion I have ever heard. I wish he would just listen to his
wife and not run. In fact, in any other state, that would be a big deal. But
we Utah Republicans seem to love our patriarchal order. Good grief!
Stewart writes, "In my opinion there is no such thing as a 'Moderate'
Democrat."The Utah Democratic Party has an abundance of moderate
Democrats, not the least of whom was Bill Orton. The problem for people like
Stewart is one of perception; they are so far to the right that from their
vantage point, the center of the political spectrum is quite far to the left.
Bailout Bob must be giving his staff overtime pay to stay up late trying to
convince people that his seniority and great acceptance by his liberal peers
should count more than his actual votes and actions.Bailout Bob
should NOT be reelected!Bailout Bob did virtually nothing on the
banking committee, the appropriations committee or on the floor to slow or stop
the trainwreck of event leading to the mortgage mess, the banking failures or
the incredible debt load heaped on our kids and grandchildren by TARP, PORKULUS
and Obama's unimaginable spending schemes. Maybe all his experience has taught
him how to stop the liberals, but he sure has not done it!And I am
sure that next month he will ignore the numerous problems with Judge Sotomayor
and vote to confirm her promotion to the SCOTUS. The man is gutless
and has done very little except issue self-congratulatory press releases until
he finally realized that he would not automatically be reelected. Now he is
talking conservative, but he has not been conservative in the Senate, so why
should we believe him now?
Did Orrin really say B.S.? Just the letters? Or the real thing? Oh man.
Nay, I say!Boo! Boo!
We can't afford to have seasoned conservatives with seniority and influence
representing us in the Senate. We need to get rid of Bennett and elect some
freshman senator with no established reputation among his colleagues, no
experience with Washington politics, and an uncompromising, hardline right-wing
ideology. Then maybe we'll start to get real results in a Democrat-controlled
...when you have to accuse another candidate's supporters of being on that
particular candidate's staff. Perhaps this is more a self reflection rather than
Anyone but Bennett. The people's power comes from getting those they don't like
out of office. We delude ourselves into thinking that the guy we know and has
seniority is better than the other guy. At this point, I want them all out. If
Shurtleff (or whomever) gets in, knowing that he will be held accountable after
6 years, we have a better chance of getting what we want. With Bennett, he can
continue to do whatever he wants. The people don't have any power if 98% of
Congress gets re-elected. Throw them all out!
LETS FACE IT THEY BOTH NEED TO GO, AS A TRUE FISCAL CONSERVITIVE THESE GUYS ARE
SOCIALIST, THEY VOTED FOR THAT TAX CHEAT FOR THE TRESURY HOW DUMB WAS THAT!
HATCH SITS AROUND WRITING LOVE SONGS FOR THAT DEPRAVADE MURDERING KENNEDY AND
HIS WIFE, AND WANTS TO OPEN UP THE CONSTITUION TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR SOMEONE TO
BURN THERE OWN PROPERTY (FLAG). BUT MOST OF ALL WE DON'T NEED THERE SENORITY IN
THE SENATE CAUSE THEY DON'T FIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE ANWAY, LIKE A NEW FRESH FACE
WOULD! AFTER BENNETTS GONE HATCH IS NEXT!!!!!
To change government we must also change those in government to get rid of that
which has become stale and set in their lives of comfort. Seasoned elected
officials have put america in a crisis and their efforts misguided by bribes and
unreasonable actions. America has lost in its prospect of controlling the world
in finances, money, and government policy. What better way to change
government than get rid of who is running government. None of Utah's
representatives believe in america or its constitution and the people.
reading all the griping among the GOPers... did eagar srsly have a t-shirt with
her mug on front, that read: Beauty vs the Beast. ugh.a good thing
huntsman stayed away. he knows when to avoid a bunch of rabid pitchforders.i personally can't wait for Them Socialists (oh my) to take over the
country ---- for a better country we'd be. come all ye faithful and
join us and rejoice the for the lord ain't king!
I witnessed at a previous Republican state convention the ultra conservatives
boo Mike Leavitt, a respected and popular governor. His offense? He didnt want
loaded concealed handguns in state office buildings. Ive watched
the most republican district in the nation self destruct with in fighting and
loose the congressional election to a moderate democrat year after year. The Republican ultra conservatives loved George Bush and John McCain
and now we have a Democratic president. Utah is a small state with
less than 1% of the national population but we have senior senators who are
nationally respected. However, the ultra conservatives in the Republican party
want to replace them with newbies. The ultra conservatives in the
Utah Republican party are the Democrats best friends.
was impressive at the convention. She was amazing. I believe she has a better
chance than the others running against Bennett.
As a moderate state delegate and former US Senate employee, I am shocked by the
brazen attitude by the conservative branch of our state party. Unfortunately,
the state party is dominated by this version of Republican. Therefore, we get to
deal with idealistic ultra-conservatives who get nothing done in Washington, DC
and pass VERY bad policy here at home. The Utah state GOP needs to
get real. We need less right-wingers and more moderates. If you're disgusted
with what the GOP is doing to your state, run for state delegate and change the
face of the Republican party in Utah.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We need to change the face of the Republican
party. I am sick of the extreme right labeling the moderates RINOs. This is just
as much our party as it is theirs. In fact, Lincoln would be disgusted with
their extremism. I choose to follow the party that Lincoln founded not the party
that the extreme right has formed, which has alienated the majority of
Americans.I am a delegate as well, and I am sick of the extreme
right thinking they hold all the power! It's time to take back America from the

. .__________________________I can't believe what you said
about can't afford illegal immigrants because that they are taking jobs from
Americans who are out of work. You must be out of your mind since Americans DO
NOT WANT THE TYPE WORK illegal immigrants take and for which your state would
not function well if they didn't do the work!Furthermore, you aren't
living in reality since you seem to think that Democrats aren't doing good work
despite having to clean up the toxic mess your god, Bush and his Gangster Regime
left for Obama. Start reading everything rather than just GOP talking points so
you can actually learn about this country.
Shurtleff is a two-faced liar. He says he opposes earmarks but then he actually
put in requests for earmarks! Look at this taken from istock analysts:Jun. 14--In a Web video explaining his reasons for challenging Sen. Bob
Bennett, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says it is time to take back America
"from those who trade earmark for earmark and favor for favor." But
just two weeks before he announced his campaign, Shurtleff asked his political
foe for a little earmark love himself. On May 5, Shurtleff sent
Bennett a form requesting a $421,000 earmark to help fund the Utah Meth Cops
Project, a pilot program in his office that seeks to treat police officers who
may have been exposed to harmful chemicals during drug raids. Shurtleff sent a
similar request to Sen. Orrin Hatch and Reps. Jim Matheson and Rob Bishop. Bennett, a member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, has
felt some heat from conservative Utah Republicans for his unwavering support of
the earmarking process. But true to form, Bennett has forwarded Shurtleff's
request to the appropriations committee. What a joke! There is
only one word for Shurtleff- CORRUPT!
I like all the candidates. The one that I think will do the best is Cherilyn
Eagar. She has a good basic message, one that most people agree
with, and isn't telling two different stories to both sides of her supporters,
like some people that run do.She doesn't need to spend thousands of
dollars, or tens, or $$ hundreds of thousands advertising that she is
conservative. She is without the ads.Ronald Reagan ran
on a basic message.
OF COURSE you want us to be Democrat lite (ie moderate)bedcause you want us to
be like you so there will be no choice for conservatives. And what you call
extreme right are those true conservative values that haven't changed or gone
out of style. Fiscal responsibility, constitutional based judiciary, strong
national defense and legislation that respects morality and the sanctity of
life. We want limited government as outlined by our forefathers and we want the
gov't off our backs and out of pockets. That is conservatism and that is NOT
what the Republican party of late has been about.I am a delegate and
it was a beautiful SWEET moment when Mr. Hatch tried to push the blame for
inaction during the 6 years of R-held congress and R-held whitehouse on 5-6
moderate Republicans, because the delegates let him know in no uncertain terms
that the BS we don't believe was the stuff coming out of his mouth. Beautiful.
I was glad to be part of that!!!
I hope the Goopers get used to their future as a regional fringe party. They've
sold their soul on so many issues, they no longer have any credibility
nationally.Karl Rove vowed to create a "Permanent One Party
Majority". Looks like he did that... but it isn't HIS party with the permanent
So Governor Huntsman decided to stay away from the
convention....interesting....I guess he didn't want to face the wrath of those
who elected him and then let down. It's fitting that he joins the Obama
Administration....goodbye...solong...farewell...don't come back.
When we had control of Congress and of the White House for six.... there wasn't
enough time to be fiscally conservative... or wasn't the timing right??We had the chance and those in Congress during that time need to be ousted
from the Party.
Sad...so sad! Seems that many of these delegates are Glenn Beck, Michael Savage
listening "Republicans." Full of hate, ignorance, and extremism. As a former
Utah resident and moderate Republican I hope they stay in office. I'm not
optimistic, however, with the election of Chaffetz and other extremists of the
many of these delegates should be in Iran...that is just how extreme and deluded
they are. Wrap yourselves in the "flag" and "constitution" and boo moderates.
Make fun of polygamists, discriminate against gays, and listen go Beck, Rush and
Hannity all afternoon. Pathetic.....
The unwillingness of EITHER party to enforce immigration laws shows how
corrupt our political system is. Many Republican constituents want the cheap
labor pool and Democrats want the future voting bloc. The Democrats are winning
this battle--big time--with Republican "leaders" looking the other way. The
answer is simple--enforce existing laws. Period.
You are = you'reYou're ignorant too.
The Republicans ruined every financial instrument in the country. And it didn't
happen overnight. It happened through eight years of deliberate, uncontrolled
spending and borrowing while lowering taxes on the rich. But the payback was
sudden and brutal. And trying to blame the Democrats for this nightmare is not
going to work, because it's so blatantly untrue. So they need to stop this
nonsense and get to work on actual policies, instead of trying to find that
perfect soundbite that will bring them back to power.
The party is going further and further to the extreme right. The big tent is
now a pup tent. There is no room for differences of opinion or approach to
issues. No wonder the GOP is a joke any more.
These guys, in fact, were part of the problem but no less so than the entire
Reublican party that expected the same from every elected Republican. It is the
ultra conservative approach that brought the party down. If that does not
change, there will be no light at the end of the tunnel.
Bob, thank you for all you have done for Utah and all you will continue to do
for Utah, especially outside of the Wasatch Front. You have my vote.
Our elected officials (Republicans & Democrats) need a dose of reality. It's
evident they don't intend to do what needs to be done to get our Country working
again. They are too worried about getting re-elected. The people need to wake up
also as they keep electing these officials.Aren't you tired of name calling and
hate spewing from both sides.Roll up your sleeves and get to work with each
party. This is what average Americans do...
As AG Shurtliff supported prosecution of parents who felt that chemotherapy was
not in the best interest of their child. They fled the state. Today that child
is a normal teen with no evidence of cancer. But the larger issue is the
state-sponsored nanny-ism, that intrudes on private family medical decisions.
It is about forcing doctors to report patients so DCFS can oversee our
decisions. It is about knowing where to draw the line. Shurtliff does not know
where to draw it.Politics is the art of compromise. Bennett and
Hatch understand the process. Shurtliff does not.TARP stinks, but
without it the financial system would have melted down. It was right to vote
for it. Bennett and Hatch understand compromise, building coalitions and
getting things done. Unless someone better comes along (and Mr. Shurtliffe
fails to qualify), we should re-elect them both.
You see, the main problem with the GOP is that they criticize everything and
everyone, including their own members. Maybe that's why people are turning away
from them, because they have nothing positive to say and no solutions to any
problems. Anyone ever had an over critical parent or other person in their life?
Did it make you respect them more or less?
re: Same Old BS | 4:17 p.m. June 13, 2009 //They both need to retire

I was a delegate at the convention. Bennett had about 5 or 10 badly missed
canned applause lines. Less than 200 delegates applauding and in the end
standing of the thousands attending. Maybe tens not associated with his
campaign. The biggest repeated and badly missed applause line was "I
vote No" on various spending bills. Problem is Senator "Kerry"
Bennett voted Yes before he voted No. Yes on Fannie/Freddie, TARP etc before he
voted No.Anyone wonder why the Banking Lobbyist at the convention
was wearing a Bennett sticker? Thus on the attempted applause lines,
aside from his son and campaign manager Jim Bennett and staff most delegates in
the hall sat on their hands. Delegates are not stupid.Bennett's
problem is with his record it no longer an advantage to attack any opponent.
This is a new problem for a campaign that thrives on spreading false rumors,
smear and spin. Opponents are not the problem. The problem is
Bennett's record.Simple.He voted Yes before he voted
No.Cleaver speech applause lines and staff standing and applauding
will not help.Smearing opponents doesn't work in this case.
I can't believe that Utahns have returned Kennedy's good friend, Orrin Hatch to
the senate so many times. There isn't a government program Hatch won't vote
against as long as it gets its seed money by taxing cigarettes. Bennett, besides also being a big governmemt neo-con, was a front man for the
illegal alien invasion. At least, they got rid of that fat-ass
traitor, Chris Cannon. With Utah following Montana's lead on
reasserting the tenth amendment, it's time for Utah's neo-con leadership to be
sent out to pasture.
Adios dirtbags! Time to get some real conservatives representing Utah. If these
two hacks rertired tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough for me!
To UtahGOP, you are exactly what is wrong with this party. Conservative is a
word you don't even want to hear. Cross over please.
Joseph Smith, the Mormon prophet, said every representative in Washington should
serve only a single term in order to preserve our freedoms, and keep
representative from becomming part of the estatlishment. One and
done. That's what every republican should run on. Do your stint, come home to
the real world and get a job with the rest of us. No more professional
politicians. Out with old. In the with a ONE TERM new guy or gal.
I am delighted to see the Republican party so busy with its own suicide.
Republicans have lost the moderate middle, which is the vast majority of
America. The GOP has been taken over by gay-obsessed Rush Limbaugh spouting
radicals, a guaranteed recipe for national failure.Keep up the good
A solid majority of Americans support both traditional marriage and balanced
budgets. If advocating these two positions is suicide in your opinion then let
me ask you. "Who is really out of touch?"
I was a Delegate but I am so disappointed by the party of Chris Butter, Dick
Chaney and Rush Limbaugh that I accepted that I am a RINO and decided to become
an honest man and resisted as a democrat.
I'm a moderate Republican and proud of it. What happened to Ronald Reagan's
Orrin & Bob were leading America's decline and their leadership and policies
have destroyed our economy, decimated our military, political, economic and
moral power in the world. They were leading voices in the policies
that have crippled this great nation in the 8 years under Bush. What
ever happened to "personal responsibility"- it's just an empty slogan. Orrin & Bob say "not us"! Think what that says about their moral character.
They need to stand up like men not cower like politicians. Real men would take responsibility for their actions-real men would have
stopped the Bush nonsense. Real men wouldn't have gone along with it in the
first place. On civil unions.Until Utah arrests and
prosecutes ALL the polygamists, instead of meeting with them and supporting
them, how can we comment on ANYTHING marriage related?WHAT DOES THAT
SAY ABOUT UTAH? ISN'T POLYGAMY AN ASSAULT ON TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE? The State
Government and AG Shurtleff is supporting them and the practice! Civil unions are getting booed! You better hope people don't hold Utah to the
same standard as Utah holds others. If Utah can't protect marriage
IN Utah we should shut up!
Senator Robert Bennett was eager to go on NPR and other news media outlets last
fall, advocating passionately for swift passage of the $700 billion TARP
legislation. He predicted very serious economic consequences unless Congress
approved the $700 billion forthwith. How serious? Bennett suggested that the Dow
would fall by twenty to thirty percent by Monday if the bailout were not passed
by then, adding: If we say, no, we want to take the time to do this right, we
want to put this provision in, and that provision in, and lets debate it for
another week, and thus send the signal that were not serious, I think the
markets are going to fall off the cliff.Bennett, incidentally,
serves on the Senate Banking Committee and its easy to see why he was in such a
hurry. The top industries that have funded his political career are (according
to Opensecrets.org) Securities & Investment ($484,236), Commercial Banks
($377,074) and Insurance ($284,855).Bennetts six leading individual
PAC donors are, in order, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Citigroup, Fannie
Mae, Bank of America, and the American Bankers Association. Now
Bennett has selective memory loss. Amazing.
What exactly do "moderate" republicans support? and what exactly do they
oppose? What I see is a bunch of Rinos and democrats using this
article to target conservative values, accusing us of suicide, or extremism.
Please tell me oh wise and all powerful moderate, on what
specifcally has the "party" moved to the extreme right as y'all put it? Family
values, nope always been there. Fiscal conservatism? I don't think so. (really
those in office have moved to the left and the left have moved to Socialism)
Wanting judges to use the constitution and the law as their guide, not their
jumping off point? That was a founding father thing. So again I
ask you have the elected officials moved left (yes) has the voting base moved
right? (no) We are the same as ever, the only change is that now the media and
the left (and the RINOS) are so heck-bent on taking us to Socialism that they
have to attack the core values that this country was founded on, calling us
outdated, suicidal, in array. The ones who are out of touch are
Bennett and Hatch.
It some poeple see it as the party of NO, I see it as the party of hate and self
rightiousnees. That is why I think we need a two party system in this state.

... for reminding me why I decided years ago NEVER to join the Republican Party.
Anyone who tries to listen to reason, vote their conscience instead of the
party line, and actually work with those "liberals from Hell" to get RESULTS
isn't good enough for the GOP.Who are today's GOP? Sheep who
believe every word out of Rush Limbaugh's mouth, think every single "liberal"
out there has an evil plan to destroy America (news flash: it's BS), and let the
party leaders rather than good common sense do their thinking for them.My sympathies to Hatch, Bennett, and Huntsman, who had the audacity to use
their brains to vote what they thought was right, even though King Rush and his
cronies disagreed. And before the poison-pen John Birchers fire off
those angry e-mails accusing me of all sorts of "liberal" evils and/or trying to
somehow destroy America: I'm not a Democrat or a liberal, either. Sorry. Just a
common-sense independent. And America's the best country in the world precisely
BECAUSE we're all free to speak and vote our minds. Shame on the modern GOP for

Don't vote for Shurtleff he is more of the same. He is a socialist with all the
globalist ideas. Get out and study the constitution. Lets find someone who can
uphold constitutional principles. YOu have to read them to know them or to
paraphrase President Jefferson. "Any people who think that they can keep a free
country without educating themselves on the principles of freedom wants
something that never was and never will be.
