sad that this is truly about Jerry Jones instead of college football. this is
just another BSC-esque move for college football.
...just threw another TD pass. This is going to be UGLY!!! Or
awesome, depending on your perspective.
After the Y beats OU in this game similar to what happens to OU in BCS games
recently, it should help the Y recruit more high school talent from Texas and
Louisiana who will be going to the Y instead of OU, Texas Longhorns, LSU, etc
"...a big chunk will go to Cowboy season ticket-holders."Why? And
which Cowboys would those be? Wyoming or Oklahoma State?
Time for some lame Ute fans to start making snide remarks. In '08 it was "But
the Y didn't play anyone tough, waaaaahhhhhhhhh." In '09 it's going to be, "But
the Y got slaughtered by OU." Meanwhile, BYU will march to another 11-2 or 10-3
season as the Utes still bask in their '08 glory and stumble to an 8-5 season,
talk about how great they are for beating a "tough" San Jose St. team, and how
the Poinsetta Bowl beats the Las Vegas Bowl any day.
so when will the cowboys start winning again
This article was about the BYU - Oklahoma SOONERS football game in Dallas. Why does everyone have to make this into a UTAH is great or BYU is
terrible article.How pathetic!
"And which Cowboys would those be? Wyoming or Oklahoma State?"Probably the Dallas Cowboys.
I agree with What idiots.
The Dallas Cowboys you moron! How does oklahoma state or wyo figure into a game
here? Arlington is in Texas. Are you geographically challenged to where this is
news to you? Have you ever heard the name Jerry Jones associated with Laramie or
Oklahoma? Wake up and use the brain which your maker placed in your head. No,
the cougars will be lucky to be better than 9-4 this year.
I'm a BYU fan but I can admit that Utah is GREAT and BYU is not.
Manhattan Construction is not from Kansas, it's headquarters are in Tulsa,
I'm still waiting for all those Ute fans. I guess they aren't nearly as "lame"
as cougar fans. The Sooners are going to ruin BYU's "perfect" season
and their unbeaten 0-0 record that they had to start the season. Oh well, the
cougs are resilient and will probably get into a bowl game just to lose and ruin
the MWC's reputation as being a giant killer. Prediction, OK- 56
BYU - 17And that's a wrap!
I'm almost tempted to go just to see this Taj Mahal of sports. I'm staying away,
however, because I'd like to see the Cougars do a repeat of Miami w/Ty. But, the
last three away games I've attended were not pretty -- TCU, UCLA, Arizona. I'd
seen several games at Rice-Edwards north (the boink, the Sark, the Doman, the
Harline) and figured I'd excised the curse, but... love the Cougs too much to
jinx them. Still, Dick, you make a compelling case to go.
No one is giving BYU a chance at this game the same way no one gave Utah a
chance vs Bama. Anyone in the MWC not pulling for BYU vs OU is stupid. This
could really be the Y's chance to represent. It seems impossible for BYU to win
if you don't visualize how it could be possible. OU's offense is
potent with Sam Bradford, no question. But the O-line is new, just like the Y's,
and the main receivers are gone, with new Juco guys coming in. BYU's receivers
have more D-1 experience up to this point than OU's do. If BYU get's a good pass
rush going and create pressure, which will be tough with a good QB like
Bradford, BYU can LIMIT, not slow down, but LIMIT OU's points. On offense BYU
will be able to move the ball and score. Oklahoma defends the run fairly well,
but they will have a task on their hands defending Unga. That will open up the
passing game and OU's pass defense has shown holes against the pass. I'm calling the final score OU 35, BYU 28.
It likely won't be by a large margin. Chances are we will have to kick a field
goal to beat them. Not a scenario I am comfortable with but just think if we
pulled it off! Mitch Payne kicking a field goal to beat Oklahoma! Wow, that's
almost funny. It could happen. Obviously the odds are against us but stranger
things have happened in football. I can't wait!
BYU doesn't win big games. Why should this one be any different?
How foolish did I feel when I failed to recognize the irony in the comment about
BYU has a chance...new juco wr's? OU got one juco commit, the rest have been in
the system, OU is reloading. Isn't BYU breaking in a new offensive line? That
will be fun breaking them in against questionably the toughest front seven in
the nation. The only new d-backs will be the safeties, and one got quite a bit
of playing time, Quentin Carter, and he likes to knock people's heads off. As far as the o-line, they will be more athletic than last year's line,
and they just need time to gel. How good is your d-line? Is it better than the
one that OU's line will face every day in practice? I don't think it will be
close but I could be wrong, I have been before and will be again, but I hope
they both play hard and good luck to BYU.
I think and rational person knows that BYU will have its hands full in this
game. I will watch because I enjoy watching football but I won't slit my wrists
if the Cougars lose. On the other hand, I will make no predictions, either (the
best way to make a fool of oneself); after all, it hasn't been so long since I
and my buddy took our seats at Cougar Stadium just prior to kickoff against #1
ranked Miami, I remarked that the weather was perfect, and even though we didn't
stand a snow-ball's chance in hell of winning, it was good to be there.
September 5th can't get here soon enough!Boomer Sooner Baby!!
My prediction is that BYU squeaks a win in a shootout (45-42), carried by the
offensive backfield and big games from the tight-ends. But Monday morning OU
will be ranked higher in the AP.
Really looking forward to this game. Just got confirmation on my tickets...no
100 or 150 left from OU ticket office. Still, being there when we play top
talent is always a treat. BYU will be tough but it's fun playing class,
non-conference opponents. Boomer and Sooner!
My prediction is that BYU gets seriously thumped. It's not going to be pretty. I
plan on being at the game and enjoying checking the place out.OU 56
Reasons that the BCS got on the phone and set this game up immediately after
UTAH put a hurt on Alabama.1.BYU has a long history of choking in
any big games. Think Detmer and any team from the 90s on2.Oklahoma
got hook and laddered by Boise and are looking for a little payback I bet they
will not overlook this one.3. First game of the season and a
national audience to bring down any Mid-Major after this loss. This loss will be
posted as the final reason why the MWC should be where it isNo
pressure Zoobs Maybe a pep talk by Whittingham before the game?
Good comments on here. Thank you to the other BYU fan who is honest enough to
admit that Utah is great and BYU is only good. You have to be man enough to
admit the obvious, otherwise it means nothing when we truly are great. Also,
it's nice to see some fellow Cougs on here that actually believe we can win this
thing. Of course we have a chance. Bronco has been making excuses about losing
out of conference for so long some fans have forgotten that we used to win these
games on a regualar basis. I was in Giant's Stadium in 1985 when we beat Boston
College to kick off the season. Plently of other examples of BYU winning big
out of conference games, Texas (twice), Pitt, Texas A&M, Penn State, etc. It's
time for Bronco to focus on winning some out of conference games and putting us
on the map nationally. Winning in conference is nice, but beating the big boys
out of conference is what people remember. Just look at the Utes if you need
any proof. Bronco needs to do something big this year or go, a la Rocky Long.
First game of the year. Months to rehearse the winning game plan. It's up for
grabs. Can't wait.
A few years ago, an Air Force coach stated the best way to beat BYU is to play
them the first game of the year. More time to prepare. The best chance for BYU
is to play Oklahoma the first game. They have a good record doing this. They
beat Miami, Pittsburg, Texas A & M,and I think Texas. Hopefully, Oklahoma will
not be at midseason form.
I am a BYU fan but the glory days are fadeing fast with Utah getting it as
far as recruiting. Utah was urbanized in 05 and have'nt looked backed since. BYU
has the honor code and restrictions that hamper the truely great athletes that
BYU needs but can't get. Speed kills and BYU has a truely lack of it. Utah gets
it we don't or can't obtain it. Utah will challenge again for the championship
and we will be 2nd or 3rd again. We simply don't have the speed. Oklahoma will
destroy us. That will truely be ugly. I am not going to even bother to watch.
Every great team has speed. The BCS Champ is full of athletes with speed. Utah
will content or win the Mtn. West because Whittingham learned a valuable lesson
from Urban Meyer speed kills. Florida has Two National Championships in the last
3 years, and Utah well has 2 BCS wins. End of story the tide has changed, and
the sad thing about it is BYU just does'nt get the athletes they need to be BCS
worthy at years end. Yes speed kills.
7500 tickets is all they got! Man no wonder they had to request more! That is
I'm sick of seeing the honor code used as an excuse for why BYU can't seem to
land any so called "blue chip" athletes with speed. It's as if you people who
do this are suggesting or stating that all fast athletes looking for a college
are wanting a place where they can be free to sleep around, go clubbing and get
drunk after games, and/or shoot themselves up every now and then without or
whatever else without the consequences they'd have at BYU. I'm sure there are
some high caliber athletes out there that wouldn't have a problem with the honor
code. If BYU could get backs like Omarr Morgan and Tim McTyer of the '96 team,
they'd be in great shape there. On offense, they will have O'neil Chambers, who
had a much better spring this year, and McKay Jacobsen who is reported to be in
much better post mission shape than Collie ever was his first year back, so I
expect some great speed out of those two this year. I hope Chambers can break
out and show the talent and speed for which he was recruited.
Anonymous, you are lame. Utah and BYU have basically split their wins in the
past 8 years. I don't see the Utes being any better than the cougs. Obviously,
they had a good year in 2008,but I don't see them beating the cougars this year.
They are the same losers that have never beat the Broncos.Good thing they
aren't playing OU, they would really stink it up.
The Y has absoulutely no chance to win this game. This game is going to be an
embarassment to the MWC. The Y will lose by at least thirty points. I hate to
admit this....but I would like to see the Y compete with OU. The MWC needs to
show the world that they can compete with the BCS
conferences....Unfortunately...the Y has not been able to have a good showing
against average BCS teams...what is going to happen to the Y agains a top 3
team??? they will get slaughtered. That pathetic defense will walk off the feild
with their tails inbetween thier legs.
After the September 5th game the overall record will be BYU 2 Oklahoma 0.The Cougars walloped the Sooners in the Copper Bowl when John Walsh was
calling the signals.
Sounds like some stadium. That's what I got from the article. Not sure what the
most of the rest of you read.
BYU has a real shot of a 5 game losing streak before playing Utah State. If
they lose to USU, we will know then we have reached the bottom. Until then, BYU fans ought to brace ourselves because the nightmare from last
season is going to continue throughout the beginning of this season. I sure hope the Firesides are good.
I love the Ute fans who post comments starting with, I am a BYU fan, but... You
just lost all of your credibility pal.
First off "Brace Yourselves BYU Fans" BYU only plays 4 games going into USU.
2nd off, Tulane was 2-10 in a horrid C-USA. And there's no way in the world BYU
loses to CSU in Provo. CSU has only beat byu once in provo since the mid 80s.
And I wont even go into saying how ridiculous it sounds to hear an Aggie talk
about beating BYU in Provo, which hasn't happened since the 70s.it
is lame that every BYU article turns into a BYU-Utah thing. I'm a die hard byu
fan, and I have NO CLUE, and couldn't care less what is going on with Utah
GOOD NIGHT........ Im sick of the UTES and their claim for dominance. PUKE fans
worry about Louisville and whoever else thats on your schedule ok. When the U
can schedule some big time schools besides a sorry Michigan team that stunk then
come back and claim your fame. You been in the BCS 2 years now. Good for you!
Still no Championship. So if you werent Florida this year then you are just like
the rest of college football. Does anyone remember who comes in second? Just UTE
fans right! #2 ranking! PLEASE.......... This is a huge game. BYU can
schedule big time games. Now its time for them to step up and play like they
want to belong with the big time programs. It will be a good game. Closer than
alot of you think.
If the BCS snobs are ever to be knocked off their arrogant, money-grubbing
pedestals, BYU, Utah et al need to consistently start knocking off BCS teams.
Any Mountain West victory over any BCS team needs to be celebrated by Cougars
and Utes alike.
Whatever, your no BYU fan, Any BYU fan would never praise utah.
What are you talking about? Either you weren't born or you were ONE of the
closet ute fans during the 90's who was afraid to show up at RES unless BYU came
to town. Yes BYU lost to some team during the 90's, HOWEVER, WHAT ABOUT THESE
WINS:MiamiPenn St.Notre DameOklahomaTexas
A&MKansas StateArizona StateWashingtonCaliforniaOh
ya and utahMoral of the story, Know your FACTS before you smack.
Yaaawwwwnnnnn! at RE:4:49.............The past is nothing but the past.......do
something when you have the chance to represent in 09--just a thud!
Dont worry about Utah, they are still heading for the exits not believing their
team can comeback to win a game..
Utah was great in 08, but this is a new year, the year Utes play TCU, BYU and
Oregon State on the road. It is an honor to play in Arlington, it will be fun
no matter what. I wish we had Collie, but I hear Monase Tonga is back. I am a
Cougar fan who also likes OU's coach and think OU is a classy bunch of fans and
byu fans feel pretty confident going into this game, little know that in reality
this will be a texas chainsaw massacre down in dallas. what was holmoe thinking
? putting maxie, pony and the kitties in a ring with the defending big 12
champs and runners-up in the bcs championship ? kyle would never
do something so dumb. the utes will dominate again this year, and the kitties
will whine. GO UTES !!!!
I'm beginning to think that this game will be a big plus for the BYU program.
It will bring prestige, recruiting and and an excitement boost to the program.
Even if the Cougs get waxed this game will be a bonus for the program. RE:
beware! Eat your heart out. Maybe the Utes can get a big game with Weber State
Yes, Oklahoma has had difficulties playing in BCS games in the past. And BYU
has trouble beating mediocre Pac-10 teams in the Vegas Bowl. Kind
of a big difference there isn't it. Even a blue-blooded Cougar fan should have
realized that before spouting off. You print shirts about the BCS, while
Oklahoma has played in as many BCS games as anyone in the country. Not even in
their league Cougars. And as for the BYU fans comparing this game to
the Sugar Bowl last year, lets just get that out of your minds right now. Utah
was undefeated last year, and had the team speed to at least hang with Alabama
right up front. Oklahoma is better than Alabama was, and BYU is much worse than
Utah was, by about 24 points (48-24). BYU does not have the speed to even hang
with a team like Alabama or Oklahoma for a quarter, let alone a game. Utah came in with a real chance to win the Sugar Bowl, BYU has a real chance
to get paid $3 million to let Oklahoma beat on them for 3 hours. Nice pay day,
Why would the Utes be jealous of BYU getting destroyed by Oklahoma? You forget
that Utah actually wins games against BCS caliber teams, while the Cougars
struggle to win in the Vegas Bowl against mediocre Pac-10 teams. When
your Cougars win a big game, come back and we can discuss your commments. Until
then you are just trying to follow in the Utes footsteps.
Yes, it may have 14 intrances to the stadium from the interstate system, but
unless the Tx Dept of Transp does one heck of a job this summer, there won't be
any off-ramps within 5 miles of the stadium. Major construction along I-30 has
everything East bound blocked for two miles before and 3 miles after the new
Cowboys stadium, Six Flags, and the Arlington Ball Park as well. BTW, West bound
I-35 isn't much better.
this is going to be a good stat for OU. the sooners are loaded . they'll win by
2 or 3 touchdowns!!!!!!!!!!!!!Prediction.OU 42- BYU 21
When you can beat these teams:MiamiPenn St.Notre DameOklahomaTexas A&MKansas StateArizona StateWashingtonCaliforniaVirginiaMississippi StateSyracuseGeorgia TechOregonthen we'll talk...utes are
trying to follow BYU footsteps, but but they have a long ways to go...
BCS trips and victories - Utah 2 BYU 0Until you can accomplish what
you like to print on T-Shirts, you are playing second, actually third behind
TCU, fiddle in the MWC. That is a sad testiment to the BYU
program.Nobody cares what happened in the 80's and 90's. You know
what, the 76ers won an NBA title around the same time BYU was releveant in
football. Only difference is their fans don't still live in the 80's like
Cougar fans want to.1-22 versus last 23 ranked opponents. Pathetic
bowl record. Those are the numbers that matter today.
National Championships BYU-1 Utah-014 win seasons BYU-1 Utah-0See, I can do that too. BYU was relevant before Utah even showed up on the
radar. And I don't know which t-shirts you are referring to, but I have never
seen BYU t-shirts stating that they are going to a BCS game. You can make a
strong arguement without making up stuff. Utah has a very good program that is
more relevant than BYU, but 2 BCS bowls does not put you where BYU has already
Funny thing happened on an OU BYU article... Losers from other schools show up
and talk smack. Cant find good things to discuss on your own, but have to play
the game elsewhere. Now to the game...OU has more team speed on both
sides of the ball. This one will be over by half time. If BYU and OU are
rebuilding their O line, i will take ou's line after practicing against our D.
Finnally, OU will have the home field advantage...should prove interesting.
I get so tired of reading completely uninformed comments on BYU articles from
UofU fans. All of you really need to get a clue. Yes, the UofU had a great
season last year. Great.NO ONE outside of the state of Utah cares
about the UofU. No one. Trust me, I've checked and I've talked to everyone
outside of the state of Utah and really, no one cares about the UofU football
team out here. Why do you think BYU was invited to this game and not MCW
Conference Champ and Sugar Bowl winner UofU? Don't kid yourself by thinking OU
is afraid to play UofU (or any non-BCS school) at a neutral venue...they're not.
It's because people will come to the game to see BYU and it will attract a
solid TV audience. That's not true of the UofU.It's a fact of life
and reality that isn't going to change anytime soon. The UofU fan base is just
too small and no matter how loud you whine and cry no one cares about your
Yawn. I was 4 when that happened. Please put down the dusty old textbook from
your Sports History Course at BYU and step into the year 2009.T-Shirts = "Quest For Perfection." You can spin that anyway you like, as
Bronco has tried to do, but fact is that when you want to be perfect, and you
break your huddles saying "BCS," there is no hidden meaning. You are dying to
do what Utah has done. Sadly you failed miserably, and Utah accomplished your
"Quest."As for OU wanting BYU to play because of their name?
Hahahahahaha!!!! This is the team that when they had their 1 opportunity to go
to the BCS they were told to sit down and go away, right? That name didn't seem
to mean much then did it. OU is not afraid to play anyone, even bringing that
up is ridiculous. But this game was about finding an opponent who could draw
some local fans (LDS members, not necessarily BYU fans) and would be a
homecoming patsy.Take your pay day, and beating, and we'll all log
on to hear the disgust with Maxie and the defense the next day.
My goodness, You Utah people really like to fight with eachother. I think that
you need to start thinking about your entire conference and how victories
outside of your league by one are victories by all. OU respects all Utah teams
(not saying that Utah State has been REALLY off lately), and I know that OU is
honored to meet and play BYU. Not saying that OUs' spped and skill would not end
up putting BYU in a world of hurt, the Coughers should enter this game as an
opportunity to play well, represent their conference, and have fun.
I live in Idaho and I CARE about UofU. I even tried to get on my ol' Utah
letterman jacket when Utah played in the Sugar Bowl (it didn't fit).
Fact: Based on this persons post, they do not know what a fact is.
So far the Sooner fans are showing a lot of class. Utah fans need to GROW UP.
You are all an embarrassment to the MWC, college football, and most of all,
society. Go away Ute trolls, this has nothing to do with you. When we beat
you by 4 touchdowns this year I don't want to hear excuses like we got lucky or
that it was obviously the refs fault, or our better, obviously faster athletes
forgot to stretch before the game, that's the only real reason we lost so bad.
Okay...so there was one person in Idaho that I didn't check with before writing
that last post. I guess I was wrong. There is at least one person outside of
the state of Utah who cares about the UofU football program. Although I'm still
not sure why a UofU fan is reading about BYU and then taking the time to post on
the message board. And yes I'm pretty sure I do know what a fact is.
The fact is that BYU was scheduled to play OU because they're a well-known
program and will draw well in TX and on TV. The UofU program is not at that
level from a fan and $ perspective. That is a fact. Before you go
throwing around BCS wins, etc (which, trust me, we're all well aware of), I'm
talking about national attention and perception. BYU has it. The UofU football
program doesn't.Whether BYU will win against OU is another question,
but my main point was that BYU is viewed as a better program on a national
level. It will take decades for the UofU to catch up.
the cougars will be fortunate to score.
Actually, I attended BOTH Utah and BYU. I actually graduated from BYU in '84. I
follow BOTH football teams with great interest. I enjoy watching and cheering
for BOTH teams along with, gasp, Boise State!
If we try hard we may win a national championship in football like BYU.
OU 44 BYU 10
You tried hard last year didn't you?
I was in Dallas a few weeks ago. I was heading to a Texas Rangers / Kansas City
Royals game and I wasn't aware that the two stadiums are in the same area. I was
just simply in awe when I recognized this new football facility. I have never
liked the Cowboys, but I had to admit that this stadium was the best I had ever
seen. I couldn't keep my eyes off of it as it was simply incredible.
The last time you beat the Utes by more than 1 touchdown was 13 years ago. So
your claim of 4 TD's just shows your ignorance. This rivalry has come
down to two scenarios over the last decade. Either it's a close game down to
the wire, in which case each team has pulled out 4 wins, or the Utes blow out
the Cougars, which accounts for the other two Utah victories since 1999.6-4 last 10 for the Utes10-6 last 16 for the UtesNo
excuses needed, we are just better than you are.
BYU has a national perspective, as long as your conversation is occurring in an
LDS wardhouse somewhere around the country.Unfortunately for Cougar
fans, that is the extent of their national pressence. They have become the
third fiddle in the MWC, right behind their rival and TCU.BYU has
"fans" nationwide, or that is to say LDS members who will pay some attention
just because it's a BYU team. Take a step out of the bubble and
read some national writers for a while, and no Dick Harmon is not a national
writer. Even with losing their senior QB, Utah is still getting more national
attention and respect than either TCU or BYU from most accounts. And why
wouldn't they? Utah is far and away the class of the non-BCS conferences. And
the envy of Cougar fans everywhere.BYU was chosen because yes there
are LDS members in Texas who might purchase tickets or tune in, and because they
pose no threat to the Sooners. You are the homecoming cupcake that real
programs schedule to give their fans a show. At least you're getting $3 million
for 3 hours of humiliation.
RE: 10:51 A.m. posterYou don't care what happened in the 80's cause
you probably weren't thought of yet. Let me remind you. BYU won title after
title and that is part of BYU's legacy. By the way, Utah was consistently
HORRIBLE in the 70's and 80's. Your team was a complete joke. Go ahead and
dismiss the Cougars past. Cougar fans can play that game too. We'll just
dismiss the 2004 BCS win as a boring win over a mediocre Pittsburg team. 2008
was a win over a way overrated Alabama team that didn't show up to play the
lowly Utes. Utah won't schedule the Oklahoma's, Florida's because they know the
real Utes would be exposed.
Are these the kind of "facts" that you learn in school? What is an opinion and
what is fact?
The game was in the works LONG before Utah beat Alabama; The game is
just a reflection of the national respect BYU football has been building since
the 70's.Just like with Utan/Alabama, nobody will be expecting a BYU
win. Then again, nobody was expecting a BYU win when the Cougars
played #1 Miami. Or BYU's 59-0 shutout of a UCLA team BYU barely squeaked past
in the Las Vegas Bowl just 6 months earlier. On paper, nobody expects
the Cougars to stand a chance against the might Sooners (a team which was MUCH
better than the Crimson Tide last season). Not having a chance, may
give the Cougars just the edge they need to pull off the upset.
re: 8:08 poster (re : National PersepectiveHere's the bubble you're
living in. No one outside of Salt Lake City cares about your beloved Utes.
Utah has no national credibility because the rest of the nation feels the same
as I do about the Utes. They just don't care. Welcome to your bubble boy
Got over it old man. Nobody cares what happened in 1970 or 1980. Those results
have no affect on anything that happens in the 2009 season. It just fills space
in an old textbook on your shelf. As for the 2005 & 2009 BCS
victories by the Utes, those results actually have an affect on the 2009 season.
You see, when recruits get to see a team on television beat down Alabama in the
Sugar Bowl, they add Utah to the list of BCS schools they are considering. When
a kid gets to see grainy footage on KBYU of games played before they were born,
they turn the channel.Your championships way back when are
irrelevant on today's landscape. Georgia Tech and Colorado won a share of the
NC back in the 90's, yet they don't still claim to have national respect. Just
oblivious Cougar fans hold that distinction.
You're forgeting one very important point. Yes, Oklahoma is better than Alabama
was last year, thus the Cougars opponent will be better than the Utes was, but
not by a huge margin, as Alabama showed by competing more with Florida than
Oklahoma did.The biggest difference is the huge disparity in the
Cougars team versus the Utes team who beat Alabama. I'd say the Utes are at
least 24 points and 6 turnovers better than the Cougars (48-24), and that's with
Austin Collie and a senior O-Line. That margin is even greater this year. The opponent is a little better, but the team wanting to pull of the
upset is extremly inferior to the Sugar Bowl Utes.People didn't
expect Utah to whip Alabama, but thought they could hang with them. BYU
couldn't hang with the athletes at TCU, Utah and Arizona. Hate to see what
happens in Dallas.
it will be a good game. OU is loaded and will do very well. The ticket prices
and thirty-five dollars to park is a joke. If you haven't been to the area, the
highway system in arlington is a joke. Be prepared to wait for at least an hour
in backed up traffic. I would rather this contest been played in Norman and a
return to Provo. I am a long time season ticket holder with the Sooners and I
hate giving any money to Texas as OU already plays the OU-UT game in Dallas, and
if OU wins the Big 12 South, we will return to this Cowboy Stadium for the Big
12 Championship game.
re: 9:36 a.m.RE; 8:19 I guess BYU is currently so horrible that
they've beaten the Utes 2 out of the last 3 years. The Utes current program
must be abysmal if they can't dominate lowly BYU. We'll see how the almighty
BCS Utes do this year at LES. Better dead than red still works just fine.
I'd like to say this stadium is a tribute to Jerry Jones' ego but its not big
enough.Jerry is only copying Daniel Snyder which begs the question;
How long til Al Davis copies Jerry?
Love the name! Great book. Al Davis will build a bigger stadium that will be
filled to about 10% capacity. Ragnar Daneskjold
The Honor Code has nothing to do with BYU's inability to land top-rated high
school runners. Most recruits want to play in BCS bowl games for national
championships, and the only way BYU or Utah can play in such a game is to win
every single game and then have a bit of luck besides. An athlete who attends
USC or even Northwestern has a better chance of playing on national TV in a
highly regarded bowl game than any athlete who goes to BYU or Utah. This is why
BYU and Utah hardly ever are able to recruit any of the top 200 rated high
school athletes. When it comes right down to it, BYU and Utah are so closely
matched that it's difficult to predict which team will win in their head-to-head
matchup each year. But one of them has won a national championship.
Come on geezer. I know you're old enough to remember farther back than 3 years.
You say 2 of 3, convenietly starting with the Cougars first win in 5 years
against the Utes. Nobody is buying that garbage you're spouting.5
of 76 of 1010 of 16Those are the current Utah victories
in this rivalry. So yes, the Utes have been the dominate team in the rivalry in
recent years. Also, I think the Utes will do just fine in LES this
year. They have won 6 of the last 8 games in Lavell's stadium. With the two
victories for the Cougs by 10 combined points or so. For as good as you claim
to be at home, I guess that doesn't apply to the Sugar Bowl Champion Utes.Vegas Bowl or bust for the Cougs. That's how low the ceiling is for
Correction. Going to BYU means you'll never see a BCS game. Going to Utah means
you'll get to experience the 3-4-5-6 BCS bowl game for the school, depending on
when you attend. The only way a BYU athlete goes to a BCS game is if
they purchase a ticket and travel with Ute Nation. We've all seen that to be
the truth haven't we.Georgia Tech and Colorado won a NC in the early
90's. Strangely enough their fans have moved on from then. When will Cougar
fans join that club?
"If you were to lie down the Empire State Building beside one of the arches
...." Huh? "lie"? - it's "lay"! - or was that a lie? - meaning not
telling the truth? ..lol
Re: 12:52 p.m.K you really need to settle down. Utah has had 2, I
repeat, 2 good years in their ENTIRE 150 some odd years of football program
history. Maybe we should say Wake Forest deserves to be mentioned with all the
top programs in the country because their football program has had 2 great years
in their whole 200 years of football also. And you're over here talking about 6
BCS bowl games? You really need to calm down, seriously. Maybe BYU will win the
next 12 conference championships outright because they have won 2 in the last 3
years. BYU has come within 7 games of going to 3 BCS bowls in the past 3 years.
So to say BYU is NEVER going to go to a BCS bowl is really just dumb. Utah fans
will never give credit where credit is due.
is consistently compared to BYU, and not the other way around, speaks
volumes. The fact that Utes make that comparison by diparaging BYU,
says even more. And it isn't good.BYU may well get humiliated by
OU, but the fact that Utes are predicting it, and already glorying in it, does
not discourage anyone. BYU is in the game, you are not.And you
predicted an equal humiliation last year - against UCLA.Even loyal
blue BYU fans will admit that BYU was a headcase last year. If Max and company
show up with the right head this year... I'll take our chances. Thanks OU fans, for good spirited fan talk.
Does anyone know where I can get my allotment of Quest for Perfection shirts in
blue this year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
When will you zoobies realize you are now a second rate program in the Mtn West,
you won't ever regain the glory of the 80's. Heck the cougars don't even hit in
practice or practice in pads, seems to me that before too long byu will move
into a club level flag football league where they'll get beat by the intramural
teams from Logan, Salt Lake, and Ephraim.
Credit due.BYU is a solid football program. They have a nice
history of dominating the WAC when the WAC had few football powers. They beat
teams they should beat, and lose to teams who are equal or better regularly.
Their ceiling appears to be the Vegas Bowl. Your comments about the
7 games within 3 BCS games is probably the most ridiculous comment I have ever
seen on this website. Heck, the Cougars came within 6 games of winning the NCAA
championship this year too, it's a banner season! I love how Cougar
fans classify the Utes BCS runs as "good years." Talk about not giving credit.
Good is what the Cougars have been recently. Great it what the Utes have done
twice now. Don't get those two differences confused. Ask Alabama
if Utah has a top football program? Nationally the Utes are now getting lumped
into the annual group of teams who have a good chance to play in the BCS. BYU
is classified as the team likely to print their intentions on T-Shirts, only to
This is going to be a great game, in a great venue, with two great teams. I
feel sorry for the Ute fans here either relishing at predicting an OU romping
(which I admit could happen) or saying the BYU is horrible now. You
should hope BYU will beat OU both for the national recognition of the MWC and so
we can improve the importance of the Utah-BYU rivalry. Congrats on
beating Alabama, Utah. I think your offense will struggle this next year, but
so will BYU's defense.Just because BYU got a great game in a great venue
don't get your knickers in a twist.
Yeah it would be great to have the Cougars win this game for the recognition it
will bring to the state and the league, but come on, who really believes the
game won't be over by halftime? Even if OU is having a down year, I really
don't think BYU has any chance to compete at that level. I'm sure the Sooners
will have some practices where they actually hit with pads on, while this will
likely be the first full contact practice/game that BYU will have since the
Dave,You sound exactly like what ESPN and half the country said
about the Utah/Alabama game. If you don't respect BYU as a legitimate
team can you really say Utah deserves respect?BYU has a great offense
returning. Assuming they can put some defense together they can compete with
OU. If the right pieces fall in place they can make it happen. BYU has the
talent to win especially if OU underestimates them out of the gate.
Please, don't compare BYU with the Utes from 2008. The Utes were about 24
points and 6 turnovers better (48-24) than the team BYU fielded last year. And
with the loss of Collie and the senior O-Line, that discrepancy is even larger
now. Not to mention Oklahoma is a better team than Bama. Not by much seeing
how Bama played Florida, but they are a better team.Utah had the
athletes to at least compete with Alabama before the game started. Everyone was
picking Alabama to win, but not a large margin (except Barry Switzer). BYU didn't have the athletes last year to even compete with Utah or TCU,
and looked slow against an average Pac-10 team in Vegas. What makes you think
they are going to be more athletic and quicker this year? Assuming they can put
some defense together is like saying the Jazz could win the title if they only
could play some inside defense. Neither is close to a reality. If
you want to play the underestimating card fine, but do not try to compare this
BYU team with the Utes, who managed to be "Perfect" last year.
I wish I was a Saint and could predict how both BYWHO and the MIGHTY UTES were
going to do this season-- in fact if I were that good I'd place some rather
large bets in Las Vegas.. Oh golly, I better not bet-- I'm sorry
The only difference was that Utah actually had a fighting chance, oh yeah, and
some heart, which doesn't make my comment anything close to being "exactly like
what ESPN said." I'm trying to remember how well the Cougars finished last
The fact that you needed 6 turnovers to set up 24 of your points is saying
something too. Whotah was not as good as they like to think they were last year.
A last second touchdown to beat AFA and a 3 point win over UNM, regardless if it
was on the road shows that you weren't as invincible as you like to think you
were. BYU also scored more points against Utah than Alabama did last
year. If they can put up points against the "mighty Utah defense," especially
with 6 turnovers, then they can certainly compete with Oklahoma. The way BYU
played I'm surprised we didn't get shut out. I'm not saying BYU will necessarily
win but there's no question that they have a chance, and if they play their
A-game they will be a competitive team in this game.
48-2413-0Sugar Bowl ChampsDang Utes were so lucky last
year. I only with Bronco had paid up his tithing like Kyle must have, the
Cougars would have been the "Perfect" team.I find it so amusing that
a team who commited 6 turnovers doesn't think they were completely outclassed.
Silly like Cougar fans.
I think we can all agree that national respect is earned by winning big
games.So lets see...BYU: 1-23 against ranked teamsUTAH: 2-0 in 2008 against top-10 teams, 4-0 top-25As far as
OU-BYU. BYU will get slaughtered, to say they have a chance just like Utah-Bama
is absolutely ridiculous considering Utah's defence was great last year and BYU
stunk.BYU defence allowed...0-12 Washington to score 27
points one shy from their season best against Standford35 points by UNLV
at LES42 points against CSUBYU got smacked around by ranked teamsBYU is a good program but you Zoob Nation are living in a bubble if you
think that over the last 10 years big brother is relevant on the national
stage.Utah as still work to do but they are by far the best program
in the state... today... not 1980s.
BYU was lucky it was only 6 INTs because there were two that were dropped. What
it says is Utah's defense kept them in the game while Ludwig stumbled his way to
a victory. Utah's defense was great, just ask Bama.Guess what
genius 0-12 Washington was 2 points from beating BYU. Just face it BYU has no
defense and cannot beat ranked teams. If I am wrong then please tell me when
was the last time they beat a ranked team?
Once again, everyone wants to know what's happening around BYU football.
Where's the 100 comments about U football? Oh ya. I know. Everyone is
dreading what's coming this year at the U. Some crazy stories exist that say
they'll be good again, but none can say why. No QB, no receivers, average RB's
and lost the only impact players on D. Sounds like a great club to me.
No, the reason everyone is always talking about BYU football is because BYU
loves to hype themselves, with some assistance by the DNews.BYU has
to tell everyone what is going on with each spring practice, because they love
to hear themselves talk. And all they have is talk. Ute fans are not
worried about the football team. They are able to accomplish their goals,
unlike the TDS. Kyle will have the team ready to go. And he doesn't need to
print T-Shirts to get the media to buy into the program. He just shuts his
mouth, and wins games. Bottom line.Plus Utah isn't the program
staring at a humiliation come September, BYU is.
The Utah team last year was the best team Utah's ever had. The past few BYU
teams have been good, but not the program's best. Things are looking UP for BYU
from here. You honestly think that because of one "bad" 10-3 year that it's all
downhill for BYU from here. Boise St. had a "bad" 10-3 season in '07 before
doing what it did this year. What about the TERRIBLE '05 '06 and '07 years for
Utah after Meyer left?Utah has had TWO great TEAMS, period. The
PROGRAMS do not even compare. Utah has about a decade ahead of repeating what it
has done recently to be nationally recognized the way BYU is. Utah hasn't stood
the test of time.
A team who was very good long ago. Dominated a league that had little football
prowess. And is now unable to compete talent wise with even the top two teams
in its own conference.Sorry, but losing the Vegas Bowl to an average
Pac-10 team is not what a "nationally recognized" program does. Going to 2 BCS games in 4 years, and winning both, one against the team ranked
#1 for much of the season, is what a "nationally recognized" program does.Printing T-Shirts about being "perfect," only to fall flat on their
faces, is not what a team who is "nationally recognized" does.Being
undefeated, while beating 4 ranked opponents, is what a "nationally recognized"
program does. The 80's are over. BYU is only recognized nationally
by patrons in LDS wardhouses, not by media or fans who pay attention today.
They are a name, for people 30 and over, nothing more.
. . .who's not nationally recognized it sure seems like the Utes care a lot more
about us than they do about their own fetching team! Honestly if BYU
is a nobody team why do you persist so much on commenting on our articles?
Let's get the record straight in saying that BYU won in the MWC title in 2006
and 2007. In 2008 they went 10-3. BYU is not a team that was good a long time
ago in a galaxy far, far away. BYU is still a good team. Utah is a good team.
Last year Utah had a great season. I understand Utah fans missing the
spotlight from last season, but the reality is that BYU is a good team that has
good antional recognition.I really feel sorry for Ute fans who still
cannot contemplate the difference between a perfect football season and what
Bronco has said many times was the intention and purpose. Although, I did have
to attend the Utah commencement recently and I can understand where the
inability comes from.BYU has a chance to beat a great team at a great
venue. Be happy for them and look forward to the rivalry game. Just be glad
that you will be playing Utah St. on a Thurs. that week and then the next week
San Jose St. You should start out 2-0.
Please Cougar fans, stop trying to make excuses for the "Quest" and leave that
job to Donko. The "Quest" was about going undefeated and getting
into the BCS. It only turned into a non-football "Quest" after TCU
kicked the Cougars heads in.When your team breaks their huddle in
fall practice by saying "BCS," the goal in your mind is BCS. Not living a life
spiritually of perfection, as Donko wants you to believe.Cougar fans
are so blind they will believe anything that comes out of Donko's mouth. Don't the Cougars play Utah State this year as well? And a Tulane team
that won 2 games last year? Just because you're taking $3 million to get
whipped by Oklahoma don't assume you're schedule is a good one. Now if you had
a shot at beating a ranked team like Oklahoma, 1-23 or some awful record, your
schedule could help you accomplish what Utah already has. But you've shown your
inability to beat good teams enough that nobody expects that.
I thought this was an article about the Dallas football stadium and the future
game between BYU and Oklahoma. What does that have to do with BYU/Utah rivalry?
Both sides take your smack elsewhere and talk about the article.
AMEN! Thank you for noticing.Utah fans, leave. No likes you or cares
about you or wants to hear about what you have to say, so BEAT IT. This is about
BYU and Oklahoma, not you. You had your one little season in the spotlight, so
you have that to relish over. Your time would be better spent watching Sugar
Bowl reruns than here.
Sugar highlights are great but I am bored so rather pick on old and slow big
brother that even he can remember the last time he beat a good team. Yet still
claims to be national powerhouse. FYI BYU football is as relavant as VHS.
far better? then put the people in your stands, oh that right, I-15 is
deadlocked when the cougars are playing at home. Come up with something better,
the utes and fans will be back to earth really soon.
Utah NEVER would have gotten a sniff to the BCS if the rest of the "traditional"
dominate teams, had played up to their potential. Utah happen to luck out while
the nation had a down year in college football. Any ordinary year utah would
have been in the "vegas bowl" but then again probably not, because BYU has a
better draw when it comes their fan base.Face the cold hard fact.
Face the facts | 11:43 p.m. May 13, 2009"Utah NEVER would have gotten a
sniff to the BCS if..."Only in Zoob Nation do facts begin with a
IF!If U had gone 13-0 U would have had a Quest for Perfection
Oh the truth hurts, doesn't it! Hard to face that fact!
Re: Zoob Nation | 8:25 a.m. | 11:35 p.m. May 13, 2009far better?
then put the people in your stands, oh that right, I-15 is deadlocked when the
cougars are playing at home. Come up with something better, the utes and fans
will be back to earth really soon.----------Come with
something better? You mean besides facts about wins/loses, head-to-head
records, record against ranked teams, BCS wins... oh wait not those stats but
fan traffic on I-15 on game day?!?Let me check on ESPN...CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are the 2008 National Fan-champions... hey now you
have something to show to your recruits.Hands down BYU was the best
program in the 80s... I know I lived through the beatings year in year out. BUT
Utah is the team now!! In the last 10 years the best non-BCS team.
RE: 12:15 a.m. posterSo you're saying games at BYU are not well
attended? I'm guessing you've never been to a BYU home game. The stadium
consistently gets 63-65 thousand people. Attendance trailed during the Crowton
years, but has been great with Mendenhall. Ute attendance has been very good,
filling your 45,000 seat stadium for big games. Cougar attendance is just
fine thanks, so check your "facts".
Utah isn't the team now BECAUSE IT'S THE OFF SEASON. Utah might have been the
team LAST year, but you're not a consistent program and you haven't shown that
AT ALL yet. Your program is about as good as North Carolina's. One momentary
flash of brilliance. Keep watching your bowl reruns because maybe you'll keep
winning bowls, but they will be Humanitarian Bowl wins from now on.
Can you say BLOWOUT!!OU rolls and has the 3rd stringers driving down the
Hard fax this Utah can't lose a bowl game and BYU can't win with
consistency in bowl games. Utah ? 8 in a row THE NATIONS LONGEST.
Utah gave 1.5 million dollars to BYU and not one Blue Bloods said thank you for
the BCS Bowl WIN$ More cat scat ? Oh yeah we'll blame it on the
nation having a down year in college football. What's with that excuse
? College Football had a down year ? Just because you embarrassed
the MWC with a unforgivable loss does not mean college football had a down
year. Every year in college football the teams rebuild. That
statement alone is reaching the bottom of the barrel, even for a YBU
supporter. Maybe that snotty Hard Facts guy can tell me why Bronco only
took 6 practices out of the scheduled 16 for the Vegas bowl and then the rise
and shouters saw their team Lose 21-31 against the fifth place Pac-10 team Hard Facts ?? How many BYU fans in the stands were over 12 ? How
many over 16 ? With almost half the students UTAH sold out each game and
had standing room only. Just $ay Thank$
Thanks for the cash, I appreciate it. Too bad Utah fans don't have
the grace to back it up with, I'd almost prefer that over the money.
All you u-tah fans are just jeolous because it is'nt you thats playing in it.
Oklahoma would blow you away too! You played a disinterested Alabama team that
was missing 2 starting offensive lineman. They would beat you 9 out 0f 10 times
if played. OU has a completely different offensive line this year. It will be
closer than you think. We have all our tough games at home this year as you did
last year. The difference is you didnt play anybody. Our schdule is much tougher
than yours was last year. OUCH!!
"I'm a BYU fan but I can admit that Utah is GREAT and BYU is not."haha...I don't wanna accuse you of not being a byu fan. I don't
like inuendos...but let me say this...I'm a UTAH fan, but I can
admit that BYU is great and UTAH is not.
