Maybe it's best if we get used to playing without the Booz. We will be without him soon anyway when he opts out of his contract. Memo is showing that he can be a "go to" guy and Millsap may develop a better overall game than boozer (which you could argue he already has done) with his defense, rebounding, intensity, durability, other intangibles, and underrated offensive productivity accomplished without having had the offense built around him, as has had Boozer. I say trade Boozer and get something of value for him that will make our team better or just let him go to create some cap room allowing us to keep some of our younger developing players.

Nice win, really nice. If we can do the same to Orlando it will be a good week.

Ghost of Christmas past is right. As long as Boozer is out let's develope Millsap and then see where the team stands next Spring and how far they go in the playoffs. Boozer is a fine player; when he plays. Let's not forget he has been on the injured list a lot since coming here. If Millsap keeps playing and improving like he is, he will differently be the steal of his draft and the front office can tell Carlos; Thank you for your services.

DesNews, do you have 3rd graders doing your copy-editing? Just in the first few paragraphs of this article I noted the following fine grammar:

"Yet is also was an opportunity" and

"when they won Tuesday at Minnesota on Tuesday."

Seriously, doesn't anyone actually read these articles before they are posted on your web site? Dick Harmon's columns, though well done and good reading, frequently suffer from this typo/grammar malady. It is hard to take a news source seriously if it is not dedicated to total professionalism.

I agree. This is a big win for us. Judging by the PT numbers, coaching staff also wanted this one badly.

I love the fact the Jazz are giving quality minutes to the kids of the team. The play may be a bit rough at times now, but the dividends will emerge later in the season as these youngsters get used to gametime pressure situations. Most NBA teams do not have this kind of success when their star players go out for extended periods of time. The Jazz are showing that they can beat good teams without Boozer or Williams.

Should've turned this one off after the third quarter, which is when the well played action stopped. The fourth quarter consisted of missed threes by portland and jazz fouls and tournovers. Neither team really impressed me then. However, the Jazz looked impressive in the first half. Passing, cutting and finishing was excellent. Williams' shot is still struggling it seems. His court vision is still there, but good teams will force him to score off the pick and roll instead of pass. Hope he gets healthy or gets his touch back from last season before its too late. Williams is the playmaker and setup guy. If He's not effective shooting the ball off the pick and roll, the Jazz will struggle to beat the top tier teams. Boozer or no Boozer, doesn't matter. Milsap has filled the void. If Williams gets healthy, or ends his shooting slump, watchout for the Jazz. If not, expect another early round exit in the playoffs.

Did you here Hot Rod call Boozer out for not coming back in a manly time frame. He should have been playing games ago, but is too concerned with a new contract. Hot Rod's words not mine.

I hope the Jazz enjoyed last night, because it will be the last time in a long time that they'll have any dominance over the Blazers. Portland is preparing a young, championship caliber team that Utah won't come close to matching. And Jazz fans are just about as bad as Ute fans.

Will needs time. I hope he's in form by April. Memo could be Money. Sometimes he's like a cold Turkey sandwich. Milsap can rebound at this level. CJ is a Phenominal Athlete. Brewer Dunks like Dominique Wilkins. AK has his 47 strapped on sometimes. Sometimes I wonder who he is passing to. He needs to check his strapo. Don't be suprised to see an emotional meltdown at some point. These guys will do fine in the season and they are gaining experience but will Memo and AK seal off the paint in a 7 game series? Who would you trust more a guy named "Carlos" or a guy named "Karl"? Will Korvers wrist heal? When is Bozzers next sore Hammy? Is Brevins finger still sore? Who is driving the Golf Cart? Is O'Donnel looking around or chasing around? How many more tackles can Harpring take or make? Is Price still Right? Is Koofus ready for Spring? Is Larry Miller's house paid for? Will BolderJack say "Double Double" again? Will Boone say "Absolutely" or "another 50 dollars for Habitat for Humanity"? I miss Rod's or "A Gentle Push, a Mild Arc, and the Ole' Cowhide Hits Home!"

    Dec. 12, 2008 8:41 a.m.

We are not the same without Boozer. Portland got layup after layup inside while Okur watched. BoOoO.....What happened to your man Almond? I noticed Korver couldn't hit a 3. What is up with Jerry logging such heavy minutes on Dwill, Millsap and Okur? Is everyone on our bench that bad? I will have to say that Knight was horrible last night. CJ outplayed Korver all night.

    Dec. 12, 2008 9:31 a.m.

There is a difference between a "bad" team and an "injured" team. Anyone that is a real fan of basketball understands this. Last night was the closest to healthy this team has been in the first quarter of this season and still we have Korver's wrist, D-Will's ankle and Boozer's left nostril sprain keeping the Jazz from being 100%. Every team, every season has a star player or two go down for 4 or 6 weeks for a minor injury.. the star recovers and the entire face of the team changes.
And to you Blazer fans in Utah, where have you been for 20 years? Fair weather fans are hilarious.

    Dec. 12, 2008 9:32 a.m.

We're a really good team. With depth and health, the Jazz can be a great team. We need Carlos AND Paul Milsap. If (and that's a big if with our luck this year) this team gets to full strength for any stretch of time this season, they will lay waste to some very good teams. I know people are frustrated with Boozer's injury (ies). People tend to get frustrated over that which they can't control. But look at how often Carlos is the player who is interviewed after games. He is a winner and is certainly not a dog. Get better and get back on the court Carlos. You are needed.

We need Harpering back...he played few minutes but made hugh impact on the defensive side of the ball

Miles and Jzzz did you watch the game. Yes Portland got layup after layup in the first quarter in the first quarter and then AK came in they only had 4 points in the paint the entire second quarter. Overall the Jazz interior defense was fine. Everytime, Aldridge had the ball we doubled him. The Jazz outscored them by 9 points in the second. And yes, Roy is a good player. The only problem was in the third quarter when Brandon Roy scored at will, and then AK started guarding him in the forth and he held Roy in check. Defense wins championship, and AK is the Defense Identify of this team. If we are going to win a championship, we need to get AK 30+ minutes a game. And yes I am OK with is 2 or 3 boneheaded passes a game.

  • Price-less?
    Dec. 12, 2008 10:06 a.m.

Very noticeable that our best back-up point did not play last night. Is Ronnie Price injured? Knight souldn't be seen out of his warm-ups 'til Williams and Price have 11 fouls between them.

  • I Wonder
    Dec. 12, 2008 10:22 a.m.

why Koufos didn't crack the line up last night against the Blazers? I thought he would have been useful against Aldridge and Oden in the paint.

I doubt your headline, because quite frakly come the end of the year both Portland & Denver will be a better team than the Jazz GUARANTEED! Then add the Lakers, Hornets, Suns, and Rockets to that list and your Jazz will be lucky too just make the playoffs. They are pathetic, no killer instinct. When you get a team down don't let up bury them. Oh well!

    Dec. 12, 2008 10:35 a.m.

Miles: I was talking about the Saturday game....With Brewer out I think sloan will most likely start Almond in his stead. Then he will have Korver come in for whoever is playing worse. But Korver and Miles will probably see the majority of the minutes, unless almond plays alright.

  • BoOoO
    Dec. 12, 2008 10:44 a.m.

We actually haven't seen price at all now for 3 of the last 4 games. Not sure how I feel about it though. Knight plays great and has awesome hands. He gets 2-3 steals every game. Knight is also better at running the offense then Price is. Only real bad thing he did was turn over the ball twice in a 45-second span lol. But other then that he has been a really solid back up.
On the other hand I really like Price. I think he brings a lot of energy. He's also really good at sneaking in for the double team at just the right moment for a couple steals as well. But as far as running the offense? I think he rushes it a lot more then Brevin does and will just drive in the lane and turn the ball over. Not too mention his shot has not been falling this year(Neither has Knights). Really hard choice......I feel bad that Price isn't getting any minutes.

  • Price?
    Dec. 12, 2008 11:08 a.m.

I wonder if Price will start in place of Brewer this weekend. Or will Sloan move AK from off the bench and put CJ at the 2 since he now has Harpring healthy enough to bring energy off the bency?

    Dec. 12, 2008 11:12 a.m.

Homecourt is overrated in the playoffs if you cant win at home and on the road you will not be an NBA Champion you do not deserve it if you cannot do both so the Jazz just need to make the playoffs

I really enjoyed last night's TNT broadcast. I'm glad they showed a Jazz game. Congrats to the team for coming up big against a division rival. I loved the team's effort. I am concerned about the Boozer injury. He's been out a long time. Anyways, good win. Can't wait for another Jazz game on TV so I can tune in here in L.A.

Good Win Still a ways to go though....

They need to get to the point of playing sharp in every quarter whether they are up are down it's a habit they will need if they ever want to win a championship.Great teams play consistent.
More defense above all else.Above stats. Above ego. Above a big paycheck. Play defense with love and passion and the offense will flow.
I hope they get a win saturday.Good luck and play sharp.Cut'em up Jazz.

Two hurdles the Jazz can and should overcome. Turnovers and stupid fouls. They got away with some silly fouls last night, but won't on the road. Overcome these two aspects and I feel their defense will intensify...

  • some of you
    Dec. 12, 2008 1:48 p.m.

are idiots...I don't get to watch the Jazz often but what I saw last night was a team that played pretty good defense. Portland was shooting at or near the end of the 24 on nearly every posession and wouldn't have been as close as they were if not for some pretty lucky and unorthodox shots by Roy falling. I know he does that regularly but it doesn't take away from the defense played. I think toward the end the Jazz played conservatively on offense out of respect for Portland's ability to capitalize quickly on mistakes, and it made the game less fun to watch and less smooth. I actually think that if you consider missed shots that never had much of a chance as a turnover...they turn it over less when they run and try the occasional forced pass.

  • A few things
    Dec. 12, 2008 1:58 p.m.

We are a better team this year and have gotten through most of this injury stuff because AK is back and playing much better. When Deron was out and even now AK is an extra ball handler passer we needed. We struggled mightily when he was out.

If Deron was truly back at full strength we would have all forgotten Booz by now. Last season when Booz was injured our record reflected that it did not matter. Deron picked up most of the scoring slack and a few others did as well. This year AK is back to cover Booz absence additionally.

CJ is soft--tremendous athlete but soft. He does not like to mix it up.

Millsap has basically replaced Boozers stats plus he adds defense. A bit less offense but compensates by actually guarding his man. Wow.

AK did a nice job on Roy in the 4th. Not bad considering Roy can basically score at-will against 95% of the team in the NBA. Inside/outside he will score it and break you down but we held up. I don't care how many points he gets if we stop him from helping his team mates beat us.

    I'll take it.

  • Re: BLP
    Dec. 12, 2008 2:35 p.m.

I thought that Portland was a good road team. and they are. But they lost to the jazz without D will. and the Jazz dominated them last night. I know they didn't blow them out but. It was a pretty dominate performance by utah. Even the TNT announcers said that a lot of people will be surprised by the Jazz winning that game. Im not. wait till the jazz are 100%. And I dont care D will is a better player when 100% than anyone on the Blazers. edging out Brandon roy with his passing skills. cause Deron can score and defend just as well. When he is healthy. And did you not see that passing clinic he put on last night.. sheeesh!

  • Miles
    Dec. 12, 2008 2:50 p.m.

Calling CJ soft is crazy. He is basically a rookie as far as minutes go. Plays half the game on a talented team. Oden is basically his first year too. #1 pick. CJ did just as much for the Jazz as Oden did for the Blazers last night. CJ is much farther along than most 21 year old's in the NBA. Much Much farther along........At 21, Deron wasn't getting any more minutes with Jerry.

So, Fez is learning from Booz. Heh.

  • Winning a Championship
    Dec. 12, 2008 4:28 p.m.

is what we are working on now. With Boozer out other players are learning how to win. When Boozer comes back 100% we will have a great bench that knows how to win. Boozer has won all of his life so he knows how to win. Also if the guards play d-fence by keeping their players from getting to the basket so that Booze and Okur can stay on their man, winning will become the norm. The NBA Championship is in our grasp. We have the team that can do it.

  • re: Some of you
    Dec. 13, 2008 9:03 a.m.

Could not agree more. I loved the Jazz defense this game. They trapped very well, got a lot of steals and just looked like they had a lot of energy. I agree that they need to have more of a killer instict though It seems like they get a lead and without fail it gets trimmed to 3-4. The Jazz will be fine though. We have so many complainers that take this team for granted. Look at the Celtics for example, would you all have liked to be Celtics fans while they sucked all those years? How about the Knicks? GO JAZZ! I bleed blue no matter what!
