(This time, we really mean it)
I can't stand the Yewts! A win Sat will make our season. It's like bowl week
for BYU. Go Cougs!
How can Utah be ranked in the top 10 when they have not beaten any top 10 teams
this year? Utah hasn't EVER beaten a team ranked in the top 15 in the final
season ending polls, or who has finished in the top 2 in their conference. Same
with BYU. Utah and BYU play at best 1 or 2 top schools every year
and struggle to beat the lower tier schools (eg. Michigan, Washington). I'm NOT
talking about beating USC 10 years ago, I mean USC now, and teams who will
FINISH ranked no 1 or 2 in their BCS conference. You guys don't play enough
quality competition to be ranked so high.
For the last 11 months Ute fans have whined on these boards about how the reason
they lost last year was because they had "so many injuries".This
year, going into the "Best Matchup Ever," the Cougs are full of injuries. Pitta,
Unga, and Feinga on offense are all banged up; half of the defense didn't even
start at the beginning of the seasons. The difference between the
programs is that the Utes make sure the injuries are known to everyone so they
have an excuse when they lose. BYU just goes on playing, business as usual, and
finds a way to win even when adversity strikes. I'll admit, The Utes
have a great defense, but this is not the 2004 glory team. The Cougar Offense is
full of winners. Unga and Pitta will play through the pain, and we all know that
Collie is a winner.BYU has less pressure this year. For the first time in
years they aren't favored, but they're winners. And if the game does
come down to a last minute field goal, Sakota is going to miss. Remember what
happened to BYU's All American Matt Payne in the Rivalry Game....... BYU 34UTAH 32
More like "Most overrated Ever!"Your 2 rinky dink teams are no
better that 20, TOPS!Yes there are other teams, in other larger
conferences that would beat both these "teams" by 30 or more! I would even put
Boise ahead of these 2008 wanna be's.It's a nice little game, in
your nice little state.Best ever? Try coming out to our games out
east where your combined fans wouldn't even fill our stadiums!Because of the confidence and choke factor I'll give BYU a slight edge by 10
in this one and then if they go to a BCS game I'll bet they lose to anyone they
play by 35 big ones!
Why couldn't have BYU beaten TCU!?! WHY? WHY? WHY? Can you imagine both teams
were in the top 10? I follow both programs very closely and while my loyalty in
the rivalry leans toward Cougartown I wanted the Utes to win in 2004. This time
I am personally as divided as the state. This maybe the Best.
Matchup. Ever. but it could have been better. Maybe it will be next year. What
if both teams start the season ranked in the top 15 and run the table until the
Utah, a tea that could not move the ball against Wyoming, 19 less yards during
the game.Strong.Brian Johnson, Mr Clutch against the
weaker teams, that folds up his tent when there is stiff competition on the
field. Mr. Everything missed his reciever on the two point conversion. PI did
not cause the reciever to miss the ball that was thrown so far behind him, he
had to try to turn around and run over the OSU player to get within 5 feet of
the ball, hence the late, phantom flag that gave Mr. Consistency his second shot
at "clutchness".After all the Mighty Ute Fandom took all of those
cheap shots against him last year, all Stud Reciever Austin Collie will have a
career day, giving non-verbal shout outs to the Ute fanbase. Yhe Utes are toast,
and Max will provide the fire.Sure, Utah had it's greatest game ever
in Fort Worth while all Utes were home in slippers, and have spent the rest of
the season hiding behind TCU's skirts...Eweyties, come out and
play-ay...Eweyties, come out and play-ay...Eweyties, come out and
play-aeee-ay...It's safe, BYU won't make you cry...OK,
just a little.
tea = team, and 19 = 10.Best matchup ever???Sure, for
To Best high school game ever? You have simply shown how small minded you are
by your immature comments.
Come back east? You mean where the ACC and the Big East don't have a single
team ahead of the THREE MWC teams at the top of the rankings? Where no one can
seem to distance themselves in spite of overall mediocrity? I don't
think anyone will argue that the SEC and the Big 12 are vastly superior right
now, but other than USC and Ohio State, the Pac 10 and Big 10 haven't made much
a case for themselves this year, either (see Utah v. Oregon State earlier--a
team that will probably play in a BCS bowl THIS YEAR and beat the "now" version
of USC). By my count (and others in the national media) that puts the "now" MWC
ahead of FOUR of the six BCS conferences. No matter what happens
Saturday, it will be a travesty if at least one MWC team isn't in a BCS bowl.
Not sure exactly who or where you purport to represent, but you obviously do not
have a clue about the reality of the quality of play played in this part of the
world. Or that BYU regularly sells out 65,000 seat LES-bigger than almost half
of the schools in the ACC/Big East/Big XII and several of the schools in the PAC
10, SEC, and Big 10. BYU and Utah have played and beaten almost every national
powerhouse program at one time or another over the past 25 years. Please get a clue the next time you want to go spouting off about something
you obviously know nothing about.
We can only hope that the game lives up to the hype. It doesn't matter who wins
if the game is as close and exciting as it has been the past several years. And that whoever wins will bring more even more glory to the entire
conference in one of the BCS bowls.Worst case scenario for MWC: BYU
beats Utah and sends a pitiful Boise State team back to the Fiesta Bowl.Signed, Craig aka the commish
is a clueless fan of some mysterious out-of-state team who trolls a BYU/Utah
blog to talk smack about a team/conference he's too chicken to identify. Are you lost? Do you need someone to show you back home?
BYU lost to TCU because of intensity and reading the headlines waaaay too much.
Against Air Force it took a half time lecture by Collie to get the team to pick
up the pace and quit being primadonnas. In life there are those who
think greatness was thrust on them. The rest of us try to work at it. At times BYU thinks they are a team of destiny and just by showing up they
will score 5 touchdowns a quarter. I'm hoping they realize they have to work
dang hard at it.That cost them the TCU game.I like Utah,
hate many of their immature fans, will be rooting for BYU on Saturday BUT if
Utah wins there is a great silver lining for BYU: We do not get stuck in the
Vegas Bowl, TCU does; and the MWC will have another BCS buster in play.Utah goes busting.TCU thumps another weak PAC-10 team.BYU gets out
of the box and plays someone new.Plus Air Force ticks off some team with
their option game.Another good bowl season for the MWC coming up.Go BYU!
Well guys, these boards are going to be posted of ridiculous "X team will win,
guaranteed," and "Our offense has slaughtered teams all year, and it won't
change this week. Easy win." These are mild, to say the least. No stats or
saying how X beat Z, so X should beat V, and so on, matter one bit. Why can't
people understand this about this rivalry? I'm not even going to
read any of this garbage people will put on here. It's a total waste of time.
I'm going to wake up on Saturday and be excited about the game. No posting
useless rivalry banter all over. We all know everything about both schools.
May the smarter coach and team manage playing time in the 4th, and that team
will win. With that said, GO BYU!!!!!!
The reason bywho moved up 3 spots in the ranks, so the game would have more
interest, Espn laughed at both Utah & Bywho and the b league they play in. It's
tough to get wired week in and week out and still be undefeated. Utah should
beat Bywho by 21.
Boy knock on wood if I've ever heard one!Di they just jinx the game
and one team is going to blow out the other?I think it more likely
Utah will win but BYU, if they play with intensity should do just fine. They
should be able to paste about 30-35 points on Utah. The question is which
defense will show up? The one that had three shut outs, etc or the one that has
no secondary?Let's go Cougars!
Wow, those East Coast Teams are fierce aren't they?North Carolina,
and Maryland--grrrrrr!! (top of the big bad ACC) So what if Maryland lost to
Middle Tennessee St.Oh! Don't forget about the POWERFUL Big
East--Yes, their top 2 teams: Cincinnatti and Pitt (that loss to Bowling Green
isn't looking so bad now that they're 5th in the MAC!!!)OK, so
you're thinking "don't leave out the Big 10." Yes they are better than the Big
Least and the ACC. Hey, but they've sure gained a lot of respect the past few
years thanks to their showings in the BCS championship games, right? And those stadiums!!!! The Big House! Wow, I cower in awe at Michigan and how
many empty seats they have in that stadium! You are sooo right, let's
have the winner of the ACC and Big East play for a National Championship!
Best high school game? Wow, whatever, whatever, whatever. You talking about the
big least or the ACC. Come on get real. The best conf. this year hands down is
Big 12. And yes I think Utah or BYU or TCU could very much hang with these
teams. Out east you get to be spoiled by the BCS and think your better then
everyone else. Grow up your glory days are coming to an end the USA conf. will
beat any eastern conf.
Why Y, Why, why, whyi, whyin, whine, whine, whine...just like a cougar!
Snow College, a school that has contributed star players to both Utah and BYU is
number one in the Nation and will play for the NJCAA National Championship for
the second year in a row at Rio Tinto stadium on December 6, GO BADGERS
Go Cougars!!! The winner will take all - stats doesn't matter because this is
the big one. Utah may be overrated and same too for BYU. But, a lot other top
ten are overated too. But if Texas Tech beat Oklahoma, then yes they belong
there. I want more than ever that BYU win all out!
I live out East, and trust me, the crowds in the East are no better than the
crowds in Utah. Besides, there isn't a stadium in the country that is big enough
to hold our combined home crowds. Although I've seen a lot of empty stadiums out
here recently.And we're absolutely deserving of a top 10. I've seen
the football out here, and it's not as good as you think it is.

Any one see Gunther on tv last night spouting hatred? admitting to holding the
cougs all game last year and trying to start fights talking about the BYU
players sister. Wow Utes you have a lot to be proud of! BTW Gunther did you
happen to check the scoreboard at the end?
Regarding previous comments; the reason BYU couldn't beat TCU is because TCU is
a better team with better, faster athletes. The same reason Utah will win. Win
or lose, BYU is going to the BYU/Las Vegas bowl anyway so what difference does
it make. And they just love the cougs in Sin City. Maybe they can somehow get
UCLA a bowl eligible exemption and play them yet again, for a 4th time in 2
years. To the MWC detractors, Utah has played a strong non-conference
schedule for years and has beaten almost every PAC 10 (inc. So Cal with Carson
Palmer in a bowl game) & Big 10 team over the past 15 or so years. They have
the best non-BCS team record in the country against BCS competition and easily
had the best non-BCS team ever in 2004. I don't know what else they can do, so
get over it.This IS going to be the biggest 'Rivalry GAme' ever and
Utah will win because they have better athletes and better on-field leadership.
It's their destiny. GO UTES!
Hew Cougar fans, remember when Phil Steele releases his pre-season rankings and
he had UTAH ahead of BYU. REMEMBER when he said UTAH would be the team to bust
the BCS THIS YEAR. REMEMBER how many Cougar fans responded and said who is this
guy. Well it looks like he's pretty smart.
Awesome Collie is so darned good. He's one of the foundational pillars of
their program. Quests for near-perfection are always fun.All that
speed and tackling ability in Provo's secondary will be impossible so score on.
I'm a BYU alum (class of '88), but I am proud of both teams. I'd like to see
the Cougs win to tie for the championship, but I'd like to see the Utes win for
a great BCS bowl game. I hope they both play well, that it goes down to the
wire, that they're sportsmen, and that both teams walk off the field with their
heads held high! What a great year for the MWC. Way to go Cougars, Utes, and
All this trash talking and dissing--especially from folks back east is great! A
few years back they wouldn't even care about the BYU-Utah game. Now thanks to
BYU, Utah, TCU and AFA the Mt. West is on everyones radar. This is great! After
all these years finally a little respect.
Congrats to the Utes for not dropping their usual annual game to a bottom MWC
team. Congrats to BYU for making it to this game with just one loss after
turning off all motivation and desire to win for 3-4 games. If both teams play
to capability, this will be a good game and BYU will come out on top, barely. If
BYU can't get the pistons firing they won't be able to play catch up. Least
likely, if both teams come out struggling, we're in for a heart attack match-up
with a lot of disappointing drives. Go Cougars!
Neither one of these teams can combete with Texas, Texas Tec, Florida, Alabama,
USC. Reality check, please. (By the way where is the guy who said that BYU
would play for the National Championship?) Mendenhall has yet to solve the
problems of this BYU team. No insult intended at all, but you can't win games
on spirituality. Somewhere along the line the Y defense has to show up. Good
team, not great, but stripling warriors they are not. Utah is overrated, but so
what. Makes the conference look good. Go Utes. I am a Y fan but am a little
tired of trying to win games with the help of a Higher Power. Good hard hitting
football is the thing that wins.
Isn't it interesting to read comments from the noobs back east. As has been
mentioned above, the Big Least and ACC are in Bill Walton's words "HORRIBLE"
this year. And the MWC has owned the PAC-10 this year as well...not to mention
a little Big-10 game. While it's true, the MWC doesn't get the best
"athletes" in the country. In fact, I would submit that the MWC gets the 2nd
and 3rd tier recruites compared to the Big conferences. However, we still seem
to beat those "BCS" conference teams. Why? And who would want to go to school
in Boise? Yet these "weaker" teams seem to win when it comes to ONE
game....right OU and Pitt?!All we've got is a bunch of slow white
guys, and islanders scattered amongst a few black guys. Michigan, UCLA,
Washington, Arizona, Tenessee should ALWAYS beat up on MWC competetion simply
because they get better athletes all the time. Texas (Tech),
Florida, Penn State, OSU, and Bama will always be good...but you never know what
can happen in one game. LSU almost found that out against Troy on Saturday.
Go Cougs, Utes, TCU, and maybe even BSU a little.
If BYU, Utah, or BSU ever find a way to crack the BCS then you know all those
college football supremists from back east, down south, and on the pacific coast
will revamp the system and make it near impossible for it to ever happen again.
If you can't beat 'em the change the system
it's like riding a roller coaster for 3.5 hours straight! crazy!GO UTES!!!
I don't think BYU can ever take Utah this year. Utah is just too great for us
lowly Cougars. With all the injuries and a soft defense I just don't think that
there is any possibility. Brian Johnson is too strong and the Utah Defense is
just too great for BYU to ever beat them.......... But won't it be fun
when we do. BYU by 14! BYU is the class of the league... Win
Lose or Draw!
I don't think y fans should be talking about crying in football, remember your
4th stringer on the Dolphins?
Not to be a downer here, but the respect lacking on a national stage is largely
due to the pathetic Mountain Network and its ability to keep the rest of the
country from ever seeing the brand of football in the MWC. Sadly, when BYU / TCU
got on the national stage, one of them failed to show up. That hurt the
conference. The MWC needs to find a way to dump the Mountain Network and allow
the quality football to be actually seen nationally, even regionally would be an
improvement. Doesn't much matter who the teams play, if they never get seen.
Craig Thompson and the Univ. Presidents really did the conference a disservice
with the MOuntasin deal. Go Utes, Go Cougars. Put on a show, but I hope Utah
Bass,You are a clown. BYU will be "impossible" to score on? What
world are you living in?If you gave me a helmet I could score on
BYU. Really, let me play. All the BYU fans are getting a little
scared to leave Utah Valley. Try to be brave when you cross the
point of the Mtn. into Salt Lake. Losing won't be so bad. Try to
take it like a brave kalueaky warrior or whomever you are pretending to be
during your hoola dance.Collie, watch out, because if they do give
me a helmet then I'm going to knock you out of the game, just like your older
brother Sean Covey.Go Utes!!!
BYU ---7-10-14--7--38Utah--10--7--7-10--34In yet another
exciting rivalry game, Utah appears to be headed to another BCS game and another
34-31 win over Utah when a Louie Sakoda punt pins BYU inside their own
10-yardline with less than 2:00 remaining. But Max Hall and the Cougar offense
convert on two straight third downs to keep the drive going. On a 2nd and 3 from
the Utah 40 yardline, Max Hall finds Austin Collie on a play-action pass for the
game-winning touchdown with :30 remaining. On Utah's final possession, Brian
Johnson throws an interception on 3rd and 10 to seal BYU's 3rd straight win over
Utah is 11-0...They can't be overrated with the current ranking system.
However, they have had some lucky bounces, and why should that change against
BYU? Brian Johnson can't throw the Deep ball, which is good because
BYU can't defend the deep ball. Utah's greatest move they made is
hiring a Cougar to coach their team. Kyle bleeds blue as we've seen on his 4th
down defense the past 2 years. I don't think there should be score
predictions on these posts; instead, let's predict how many trick plays Utah
will run. I'm guessing 7 including the 2 fake punts. You are the
best Ute Fans! Thanks for making our end-of-year victories so much more
rewarding. Utah better hope for a Football win this year because the Basketball
team isn't looking to promising. Who did they lose to...Southwestern Baptist
St. Glorified High School?
The Cougs may make keep it close if Johnson commits turnovers (likely to happen
in an emotional game like this one), but the Utes' speed and Sakoda will result
in a Ute win. I would love to see BYU pull the upset but even if they do, I
don't want BYU playing in a BCS game with this team---it would be a setback for
the program. Best-case scenario for the MWC is for Utes to win and go to Fiesta
Bowl against Texas, and for the Y to go to Poinsettia Bowl against an ACC or Big
East pansie. Let TCU play in the Vegas Bowl for a change...
Why should the utes even worry about this game? BYU is not TCU by a long shot.
Utes have this one in the bag.
Two words.....GO COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can BYU be the class of the league when they lost to TCU? How can you be
the class of the league when you lost? I guess you, being a typical BYU fan,
have a way of turning that loss against TCU into a win. Too bad the MWC hasn't
gotten the memo and still lists you as 10-1.
4th and 18, baby. 4th and 18.
I am a Utah man sir!
I watched both games Saturday, BYUs in person. Both teams will be in top form
next week. BY U should have been up 24-10 at the half if not for
unsportsmanlike behavior call, and should have been more dominant. Later as
required, the Utes dominated SDSU. Both teams have their traditional
advantages, Utahs defense and BYUs offense. Not necessarily a classic
separation; Utahs offense has played very well in the clutch. BYUs defense is
pretty solid, particularly if BYUs offense keeps them off the field; thier
weakness is holding position; they were fooled by AFAs misdirection. But BYUs tight ends will give Utah defense fits. Theyre tall, big with good
hands and will make third downs difficult for Utah. Im a little surprised by
Halls pass selection, however, particularly in the flat. AFA defense dropped
several interceptions; unable to get two hands on the ball. Utahs corners are
at least a half a step faster and will get both hands on the ball.Keys Halls passing against Utahs corners. Ball control; BYUs big running
backs, great tight ends. Utahs running game, particularly at the edges. Last
minute heroics by Collie or Brain Johnson. Utah 34, BYU 31
Hey Call- your comments regarding the 1994 season are inaccurate. Going into
the game BYU was tied with Colorado St. in the conference rankings. If BYU had
won agianst Utah, they would have clinched a share of the conference title.
because byu only had one loss to csu and csu had lost to utah.
We all know the U is going to win this Saturday. The Y wants that big check
from the Utes going to the BCS. The Y will loose this game for sure mark my
words. They need the $$ to bribe some DB's. At this point the Y needs the
money more than the "W".
4th stringer? he's actually battling for backup, that #1 pick of the niners
(Alex Smith) is the worst QB in the NFL, if they could redo the draft they would
select Aaron Rogers...and Alex Smith would now be selected in the 6th or 7th
The "Quest for Irrelevance" comes full circle Saturday.GO
Please NO BCS for either team. It will be an embarassment for the conference.
Money aside, they will take this into consideration before a conference team is
Best case senario would be for Oregon State to win the rest of their games and
go to a BCS game. Then the BCS would have to take the Pac 10 champ and probably
USC as an at large. Then the MWC champ would have beaten the PAC 10 champ and
will probably get a shot at another BCS conference Champ. Then the MWC would
really have an argument agains the BCS exclusion. I hope everyone would really
crow if BYU beats Utah and no MWC school goes to the BCS while two pac 10 teams
BYU, Utah and TCU can compete with any team from say 5-25, beating most of them.
I don't think any of these three beat the top 5 teams but clearly are capable.
None of these three teams are overrated. You could say that Utah is a stretch at
7 but they have beat every team in front of them. For all of the great NFL teams
that has been done twice in 40+ years. It is hard to do so I give Utah respect
on that.As for Utah having this one in the bag, admitted I think it
is Utah's to lose but anyone who thinks this is in the bag is just plain talking
smack. First, this Utah team is no where near as strong as the 2004
team. Second, being a rivalry game most of the other stuff is out the window. I
remember years ago when Steve Young was All-American, BYU was ranked high and
Utah was a bad high school team. Steve Young had to lead a 2 minute scoring
drive to win. Outside of that 'high-and-mighty' BYU loses to a pathetic Utah
team that year.I hope BYU wins.Respect both teams.
Can't wait for 11/22 when the Utes crush the lowly cougars by half time. I
predict it will be over by then. Utes will win 42 - 7.
Well, the time is finally drawing nigh. It is more exciting than Christmas
morning! Santa won't bring these goods cause the mighty Utes will ravage the
weakling, limping, crawling and tired Cougs. Then ONWARD TO THE BCS to kick some
big time butt for a shot at the national title.
Hall will throw three picks.Collie will drop 4 passes.Unga will
fumble twice.Utah will sack Hall 4 times.BYU will rush for 27
yards.BYU will pass for 107.BYU secondary will get burned 4
times.Utes will gain 200 yards rushing.Utes will throw for 250
(maybe more).Cougs will finally shut their yap.It will be a happy
day at the RES!!!!Then on to the Fiesta Bowl for a BIG WIN.YOU
CAN COUNT ON IT.
OH, BUT THIS IS SATURDAY...GO UTES! ESP #77 FROM YOUR FANS DOWN SOUTH! IN THE
FORGOTTEN CORNER OF UTAH.
Forget the statement made this past Saturday in San Diego! The best
team on the 22nd will win. All things being equal, this game will be alot like
2004 where BYU makes it a good game for quarter and a half before the Utes pull
away.I'm looking forward to the Utes & Longhorns in Phoenix or
Utes/Gators in the Big Easy.
That is an oxymoron. You cannot be a Tarheel fan and a Ute fan. If you were
loyal to the Tarheels you would hate the Utes for beating the Tarheels in the
1998 Final Four. I know I still do.Have some loyalty to one team
instead of trying to play it both ways.
If this ends up a close game, 34-31 sounds familiar. It's 50-50 which team will
end up with the 34.However, I suspect this time around, one of the
teams is going to pounce on the other early on and the pouncee will never
recover. I'm not expecting a close score this time.I sure hope it's
the blue-blooded team that's on top!Positives if BYU wins: a "happy
valley"! and maybe some BCS dollars, and sending Utah to a lesser bowl game (if
Boise State wins out).Positives if Utah wins: BCS dollars (for BYU,
too).Negatives if Utah wins: long faces in Happy Valley.Negatives if BYU wins: none if Boise State loses, or all those lost BCS
dollars if Boise State wins out.Gonna be a fun weekend for watching
BYU's potent offense will score 30 plus points on the Utes good defense. Utah's
average offense will score 20 plus points on BYU's average Defense. So I give the Cougs the edge, even tho the Utes will be favored.I
also agree that BJ will fold in the clutch. Under pressure he makes bad
decisions, holds the ball too long etc.
As a non Ute I have been to games in Provo and Salt Lake as well as attending
games at a number of other schools in other states. The cougar fans are at the
top of my list for complaining at every call made against their saints (team).
The fans that I have encountered at Lavell Stadium have treated visitors in the
stands very poorly. I am saddend that some of my 10% goes to Utah county.Utes by 21
BYU is the class of the conference. Utah's fan base is split, one half
embarrassed by the other half.
All you Utah fans are raving abotu Sakoda again? What did he do for you last
year? Kicked one field goal and had a kickoff out of bounds? Yeah im not too
scared of him.
I love this, can't beat this game! Looking forward to a great matchup (with
Cougs on top). But I will cheer for the Utes if they win and go to a BCS bowl,
MWC needs more publicity and respect. I can't stand the arrogance of the BCS
schools.Ernest Bass, you always rip on Collie with some sarcastic
comment, but my friend......you would last about a tenth of a second on the
field trying to cover him. He is the leading receiver in the nation (according
to ESPN.com), you have to tip your hat to that. Can't wait till
Just wondering...if Utah goes undefeated in the Nation and win their bowl, would
they be considered belmished because they have not played anyone.....1984
Cougars...I would like to see what the Utes fans would say...since they always
claimed that 1984 Champs was a bogus....WOW....oh know my Utes???besides
TCU...who have you played????
What a riot! Let's all get together this Saturday. What we need is one big
stadium in Bluffdale where we can all go and just love each other!!! Where's
Dave Checketts when you need him?!Love my Cougars! Go TEAM! FIGHT!
How can you say that BJ will fold in the clutch? Johnson pulled together three
4th quarter victories vs some solid teams this year (Air Force, Oregon State and
TCU). Sure there may be been some fortunate plays, but the best team always
wins, that's why their the best team.I'm a Cougar fan and honestly,
I'd much rather have the ball in our hands with 2 minutes left, down by 5 than
to give the Utes another 4th quarter comeback. I think this game
will live up to all of the hype and it will come down to the end. The team that
converts on 3rd down and limits turnovers will pull it out. Both have their
offensive and defensive strengths, but the little things will make the
difference this Saturday.Final Score:BYU: 35Utah: 31
To those whining about the TCU loss:TCU was simply the better team
with superior talent. A lot has been said about lack of prep, but based on what
we saw one team was clearly superior that day. BYU lost to one of the best
defenses in the nation. BYU has a talented offense but an average defense.TCU again appeared to be the superior team against the U. The stats
indicate that. TCU lost because their freshman kicker couldn't connect on the
easy ones and the QB missed a wide open receiver in the endzone. The best team
doesn't always win, the team that has the fewest mistakes by key individuals
usually wins.To those SEC worshippers, Wyoming 13 Tennessee 7. Yes,
a traditional also ran from the MWC beat a tradtional power from the SEC at
their place. Each player at TN was recruited over the guys at Wyo, yet still
managed to lose.
You forgot a few!!! Maybe include a score prediction and it won't back-fire!Hall will throw three picks.Collie will drop 4 passes.Unga
will fumble twice.Utah will sack Hall 4 times.BYU will rush for 27
yards.BYU will pass for 107.BYU secondary will get burned 4
times.Utes will gain 200 yards rushing.Utes will throw for 250
(maybe more).BYUs Special Teams will be on Fire!BYU 42, Utah 17It will be a happy day at the RES for cougar fans!!!!Then on to
the Fiesta Bowl for a BIG WIN....And the Cougars will still
Win.Thanks for saying the Cougs will go to the Fiesta Bowl and have a BIG
WIN. Utah will be a nice practice game. And my favorite that you
said...Cougs will finally shut their yap.Sure enough, BYU
didn't need to talk, they showed it on the field.YOU CAN COUNT ON
Oh, this is fun.... Less than five days...! I will not say who I want to
win--both teams are excellent, and both will have great bowl games too. Go
UTEBYs! Or is it BYUTES...?! This is fun!(Win your bowls BIG!
Break up the overratedBCS'ers!!)
re: Win, Lose or Draw | 1:01 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008 >>BYU is the class
of the conference
Here's hoping they both lose. Go Aggies!
Oh my goodness oh my goodness! How is BYU ever going to stop Utah's potent
offense? Why, just look at all the points they scored against New Mexico (13)
and TCU (13) and AFA (30; BYU scored 38). BYU's defense hasn't been able to stop
anyone this season, just look at all the losses they've piled up this year!
Are you referring to the poor decisions he made to score the go ahead TD vs. a
great TCU defense? Or maybe the poor decisions he made to break the tie against
Air Force. Or possibly the poor decisions he made down the stretch against
Oregon State. Sure he's had less than stellar moments, but when the pressure
has been the greatest he has come through. That being said, Hall has
also proven very capable of coming through late. If it's within a touchdown late
it could easily come down to who gets the ball last. As long as they have 60
seconds or so left on the clock I expect either QB to make it more interesting
than either side will want. In recent games though, I think Utah
has done a better job of protecting the football though. Not so with BYU.
Don't expect Utah to drop as many easy picks as Air Force did.
"Ernest T. Bass Awesome Collie is so darned good."I think
more than that, Austin Collie will be so darned motivated. All of those cheap
shots last year about "on and off the field" but the uneducated Ute fandom has
probably been a mantra. As upset as he was last year, those words have probably
been a "mantra" to him this season. I am sure he is looking forward to shut the
silly Ute fans mouth from the RES endzone this weekend. You know it's his
focus. Why, oh why, did the Utah fans need to be so intolerant of a
young man's belief-system?Now Austin Collie will come out focused.
And, if you think his halftime speech was motivational last week think about how
he will "focus" the cougars this Saturday."crowtonlover Why
should the utes even worry about this game? BYU is not TCU... Utes have this one
in the bag."BYU is not New Mexico, either. BYU beat New Mexico 21-3,
and Utah beat them 13-10. Don't even think about the fieldgoals BYU blocked this
year, or how inconsistant BJ is in big games. Utah is entitled cause Kyle said
so.Keep hiding behind TCU's skirt, Utes-happy-place.
Say what you want about Smith, at least he didn't cry.
Move the yewts to the pac-10 so they can get worked every year and shut up. Move
BYwho to the Big 12 so they can get worked. You might be bowl eligible. But we
beat Oregon State yea but lets see if you can after playing USC and then going
on the road. BYwho hasn't beaten anybody except Northern Iowa. Look out they
deserve to play in the New Mexico bowl. Maybe Weber will play them. GO
does anyone know if the game is going to be in hd? if so, what channel? will it
be part of comcast's basic cable?
Reply: "On Your Mind We all know the U is going to win this Saturday. The
Y wants that big check from the Utes going to the BCS. The Y will loose this
game for sure mark my words. They need the $$ to bribe some DB's. At this point
the Y needs the money more than the "W". I think BYU would rather
beat Utah, jump up in the polls to 9 or 8, and be invited to BCS (Prideful,
Arrogant Utah's worst nightmare) and earn the 8 mil on their own. Utah could
use the $$ from BYU to bribe and offensive coordinator, and pay for a defensive
coordinator who knows how to shut down Beck to Harline, and cover collie on 4th
and 18.Wyoming outgained you in total yards by 10 yards? They must
have a powerful offense, except BYU's defense shut them out.I bought
tickets to RES this weekend, not to see Utah win, I just needed some piece and
quiet, and what a better place to get time for peaceful contemplation that RES
with the clock at 00:00 in RES after the BYU games, when the Utes finally shut
their own mouths.
Hey dogs, You Cougars are going down this Saturday! I'll be throwing TD passes
left and right and there's no way your weak defense can stop us! Can you say
TCU? That's right, we're going to walk all over you as the Y will be nothing
than a speed bump on the way to a BCS bowl game. Then they'll be
asking me "now what are you going to do"? And I'll be going to Disneyland baby!
BYU will not make it into a BCS game even if they win. I don't know where
zoobies get this crazy idea that if they can beat utah, they can skip into a BCS
game with a 11-1 record. Why would they pick BYU? Utah still would be 11-1 and
Boise state would be undefeated. BYU going to a BCS game for sharing
the conference championship with 2 other teams will never happen.
To Utah Overrated:Utah and BYU would love to play teams in the top
ten. They try to shcedule them every year. When Utah sheduled Michigan, the
Wolverines were a top ten team. But for some reason (I wonder why ? Figure this
out for yourself) they will rarely agree to a contest. When they do agree to
play Utah or BYU they will rarely agree to a home and home contract. So
sometimes the Utes and the Cougs have to play only one game on a foriegn field.
When they do agree to a home and home, they often play the first game on the
foreign field and then get bought out for the game in the Mountain West so the
top ten team won't risk getting beat. This is typical of the BCS Chicken S---
attitude. So don't come on theis blog and give us this crap !
First, stop sniffing glue.Second, it's Sakoda, not Sakota, and he
doesn't miss.Third, Utah won't need Sakoda to win it at the end.
BYU won't be that close.
MWC 'owns' the PAC 10?? If you guys would have to play more than one game vs.
the PAC 10 - ie. a whole season in the PAC 10, you would not be in the top 2.
Oregon State may have lost to Utah at home, but don't forget the result of last
year when you played OSU at home. Playing and beating an occasional 'real team'
does not put you in the same league as those teams that play a whole season in a
big league conference. I'm sure if OSU had to play the likes of UNLV and Wyoming
all season long they would also be able to run the table. Big deal, little Utah
No trouble here - If required, I am a die-hard Ute fan that just happens to be
from North Carolina. Welcome to this blog - or any blog? - I use
that tag because this blog does not register it's bloggers. Plus it is easier
to query previous blogs and responses.
Of course ESPN laughed at the MWC! Where do you think their revenue comes from
(try broadcasting BCS games)? They are nothing more than paid advocates for the
BCS. The BCS commissioners would go nuts if ESPN were to give a non-BCS team
reasonable respect (or time). That would elevate the question of the legitimacy
of the whole BCS system. That's why BCS conference fans have such a skewed
vision of how good they are and how bad the MWC is.As for BYU and
Utah, pretty much everything has been said both good and bad. Now let's play the
game, have fun and see! And let both teams answer the quality/power ranking
question in whatever post season bowl games they go to. I've got to
admit, it would be great to see some of the BCS dollars diverted to the MWC
pockets once again.
Bywho?!?!? That's HILARIOUS!!! I have NEVER heard that one before. You are so
original!!! I have no idea how you EVER came up with that one Texas Ute. You
must have spent hours.....
"To All Ute Fans: I'll be at Rice-Eccles this Saturday and you better
watch your mouth or it will get popped.""Re: To All Ute Fans This comment is a threat. I'm sure that BYU and all it supposedly stands for
is pleased to have you as a fan."While we wish all Utah fans would
keep their obsceneties to themselves, these are obviously Ute trolls responding
to their own posts, enjoying portraying BYU fans as something they are not. That is what makes you Utah fans so "special", so "precious", your
ability in your uneducated, alcolhol induced minds to twist things and project
you behaviors onto the BYU fans.I was at RES two years ago and only
saw two BYU fans get smacked, both were cheap shots taken from the back, and
both Ute Fans stumbled (ran)away (Utah Men Sir) as fast as they could.I have heard RES flashes an 800 number to report inappropriate fans (Wow, I
hope that is not necessary at LES games-- except when Utah fans are there.) I'm
sure that is the only real threat to you Utah fans during the game, is being
asked to leave before you do something stupid.
Bender? Isnt that the name of the Drunken Robot on Futurama?
"Please NO BCS for either team. It will be an embarassment [sic] for the
conference."Just like The Ohio State's great performance against the
Gators 2 years ago? Utah or BYU would do just fine in a BCS bowl game. Neither
team is perfect but no football team is (even our wonderful Gator team here in
Florida lost to lowly Ole Miss at home).
Wow!! This game has the makings of a classic!! Utah definately has the pressure
on them, and they have the most to lose. It will be interesting to see if BYU
can step up to the challenge and play like they played at the beginning of the
season. I am a 100% BYU fan, and I would like nothing better than to spoil
Utah's plans for the BCS. But, if BYU beats Utah then that means that Boise
State will probably be in a BCS game. And if there is anything I dislike more
than U of U football it is Boise State Football. So, if BYU wins, GREAT!! If
Utah wins, still great because BSU won't be going to a bowl game. Any way, it
looks to be a great match up!!GO COUGS!!
Yes, the game is to be broadcast in HDTV. I am not so sure on the details,
though, for cable. I know it will be on DirectTV (616-1--someone correct me if
I am wrong). But, yes, to answer your question the game is to be broadcast in

This is the game. I could care less about SEC, Pac 10, Big 12,
Biggie smalls etc. Let's strap it up and see who is left standing.
The U is tough, but I'm going blue. Let's go cougars!
What a great game this should be! Each team is the other's strongest opponent
this year. Season finale, conference championship, BCS berth...exciting!Who will win? BYU has more talent but they have underachieved in a few
games (witness Austin Collie calling out the team at halftime against AFA). Utah
has played perfectly. So I guess it depends on which BYU shows up. I'd say BYU
has a 50% chance of winning. This game is a huge test, and the winner
deserves a BCS berth. I'm not saying they will get it, but they will deserve
it.Boise State does not deserve its current ranking. Their
conference and schedule are far weaker than ours (and that's saying something!).
But they're at #9 and not likely to drop unless they lose. That makes it very
hard for BYU to pass BSU.Ute fans: you're not out of the woods
either. Even if Utah wins--and I'd say there's a 50% chance they will--Boise
State has an extra game to go, the day after Thanksgiving. If they win by enough
points, they could move up and pass the Utes.BUT...Saturday's winner
will deserve a BCS berth. Good luck to both! Fans, play nice! :-)
Only five more days until Utah locks up its second straight trip to the
Poinsettia Bowl.Take it to the bank, Ute honks!
"If you guys would have to play more than one game vs. the PAC 10 - ie. a whole
season in the PAC 10, you would not be in the top 2."Based on what
evidence? The MWC is 6-1 vs the PAC 10 this year, with even lowly
UNLV (2-5 MWC) knocking off then #14-ranked Arizona State in Tempe and Utah
knocking off PAC 10 leader Oregon State. There's only one team in the
PAC 10, USC, that would have had even a prayer of going undefeated through a
whole MWC schedule this year.Oregon State, Oregon, California, and
Arizona all would have lost at least 3 or more games in the MWC.

Last year, when Austin was attacked by ute fans, Dougie Robinson (because his
kid had to sit and watch games from the Utah bench-- Kyle made a spot for the
kid so someone at the Des News would do his dirty work--) for expressing his
moral value system, I'm sure his father sat him down and told him not to worry,
keep working hard, and be focused on the game at RES. He didn't need to put a
jersey on a tackling dummy (see TCU vs. BYU) to get a focus for Utah.I would guess as the team leader he will be running harder, faster and playing
stronger that the other guys, and they will follow his lead.I would
think that if this is going to be a close game, the intangibles lean heavy in
Austin Collies favor.

cougar fans get these crazy ideas.
NOTICE - NOTICE - NOTICEI have been hearing for weeks that if
BYU beats Utah on the 22nd then Boise St. (if still unbeaten) will get the BCS
birth and everyone, including BYU and Utah, will be out in the cold looking
in.Sorry kiddies, but it just ain't so!!!Read the
following from the RIVALS.COM article on the BCS today:"Utah is the
highest-ranked non-"Big Six" team in the standings. A non-"Big Six" team is
guaranteed a BCS spot in two ways. One is if it finishes in the top 12; the
other is if it is ranked in the top 16 and its ranking is higher than that of a
conference champion that has an automatic berth. The highest-ranked Big East
team is Cincinnati, at 19th. The highest-ranked ACC team is North Carolina, at
22nd.Other non-"Big Sixers" in the BCS top 25 are Boise State, No.

team. Boise, if it remains undefeated. . . and, if BYU beats Utah, then BYU
WILL go to a BCS game.
Are you kidding me. How many points did you score on TCU, oh yeah 7, how many
did you allow, 32, how many did Utah allow, 10, so just shut up with the
scoring. Utah has better athletes, and ragging on Brain Johnson for stupid

far looser team going into this game.BYU is all about the "W." It's
Utah that is always so focused on the money. We're glad the Utes will
be able to put a little money in the league's coffers. I mean, the Poinsettia

Hey Mr. "Y Top of Class...Less". You know, it is possible that the Y fans
complain about the calls-I am there with them and I occasionally complain. But
that is standard practice at ANY university! At least the U fans are generally
safe in attending a BYU/Utah game in LES. I've heard stories from friends who
have been physically threatened and verbally abused by people in Rice Stadium
and I won't attend a BYU/Utah game there unless accompanied by my bodyguard
brothers and son. Of course you have to attribute much of that in
Rice stadium to alcohol-which you won't find at a BYU game neither served nor
smuggled in. Go BYU! 33--31
The two most overrated teams in the country meet!! They might be able to win the
MAC. Oh wait Ball State would work you guys. I live here in SLC grew up in SEC
country. It is so funny how serious you guys take the pop warner championship.
Dear my thoughts:How do we expect to yake your points serious?
Besides the outlandish scenarios (Michigan beating OSU and Florida losing twice
more...esp since they're arguably the best team in the nation and will likely
win the NC), you don't understand the BCS. No conference can send 3 teams to the
BCS. It's not allowed within the rules. And IF that was possible, be assured
that a 2-loss Oklahoma team (with losses to TT and Tex) would make it in before
a 1-loss non-BCS team.Quit fantasizing because this game's shaping
up to be like the 1996 game, but not in BYU's favor. Let's revisit history...it
was a game hyped beyond reasonable measure. BYU was clearly the better team.
Utah had a puncher's chance, but that's about it. They made it interesting every
so often, but BYU was too strong in the end. Reverse the names and that's what
you'll see. Utah clearly has the better team. The "throw out the records" mantra
is garbage. The better team wins in this series 9 times out of 10.

Only the HIGHEST RANKED non-BCS team is GUARANTEED a BCS BERTH. Other non-BCS
teams may QUALIFY, but they would have to be invited as at-large teams. With 10
BCS spots available, the following appear to be locks:BIG 12: Texas

I have a dilemma! As a BYU alum, I always root for BYU to defeat Utah.
However, a BYU win will knock Utah out of the upper class of the BCS and will
not be enough to raise BYU to the upper class and neither school will qualify
for a BCS bowl game. So, as usual, I will go with the Cougars.
I went to the U, however there is still no way on earth either one of these
teams could play in the SEC or even the weak PacTen conference game in and game
out. Yes, if either team has to play one game against Washington or Oregon
State they can perform pretty well. However, if BYU for instance had to play
Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Auburn and LSU....come on. If they won any of those
games I would be shocked. Take the PAC 10 for instance. Neither team could go
through that division even this year without at least two losses. Cal, USC,
Oregan come on. Big twelve maybe, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma
State....are you serious? Until Either of these teams plays a difficult
schedule game in and game out, beating even a good Oregon State team is only one
win of a good school and then nine or so wins of sub-par schools. BYU beating
no win Washington on a last second controversial call...case closed. I think
the teams are more on par with Jr. College teams than just good high school
Utah is the goodest team in the state. Bryanne Johnson will run over the Cougar
defense all day long. Our players are really fast and strong. We are smart. We
can run. See us run. I have been a Utah fan all of my life since 2004 and I
think that BYU is a crap school because everyone in my family works for a BYU
fan and they are always talking about how good they are. I am sickn'tired of BYU
fans who think they are so cool with their indoor plumbing and their
automobiles. I hope we beat them behind the woodshed.
Where is the first round pick Alex yewt??
BYU by 14
You forget that the BCS only has to take one non-BCS conference team that
qualifies. That's why in 2004 Boise State didn't make it in to a BCS even though
they also ended the regular season undefeated (lost their bowl game though...
PRETENDERS!).So win (honestly now...) or lose, BYU does not go to a
I love the TDS fans who talk about Utah getting lucky and barely beating OSU and
TCU, but then also mention the '84 NC. So does it not count as as
lucky win when you throw a "Hail Mary" in to the end zone if it's for a national
championship... just curious?
BYU isn't TCU they are tons worse, so UTAH should win this game easily.
I'm tired of hearing kewg fans making statements about verbal abuse and alcohol
when speaking of Utah fans at RES. There are good fans and bad fans supporting
both schools.Wasn't it last year when a kewg fan split a Ute fan's
head open at LES? If I remember right the victim was a child. It was reported
on the news so I know it happened. On my first visit to LES I
remember being verbally attacked several times as I took my two young sons to
our seats. Some of your fans made a nice initial impression on my sons. It
goes both ways! The majority of Utah Ute fans are great people and so
are the majority of kewg fans. To make a general statement putting Ute fans
down is totally classless on your part. Perhaps you should
experience RES sometime. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.Go Utes!!
Never is a strong work, I was sitting in the middle of the cougar club section
during the ice bowl (3-zip, remember?). I'm pretty sure the guy in blue next to
me was not sipping kool-aide out of the flask in his pocket. Unless it was
rancid and that is what made him puke (and yes he did get escorted out). Or is
it not wrong if it is not in the open? Never say never.
BYU is supposed to be the doormats, do their job, and lose this game. They still
go to the vegas bowl regardless and thats all they are good for, 10-2 and a
vegas bowl zoobies.
Biggest cougar homer ever. I love my cougars but I think Utah has way to much
speed for the cougar defense. I go back to the Gifford Nielsen days and all the
other great cougar QB's and teams. This is the 2nd best Ute team ever. I watch
alot of college football and this BYU team in my humble opinion is maybe our 4th
or 5th best team. We lack the speed at linebacker this year, and miss Brian
Keele, and Brady Poppinga alot. We are weak on the edge this year. I think our
only hope is Utah turns it over and we score off of thier turnovers. We have
quick DB's but we have no pressure off of the edge like we did last year. Utah
will expliot this. I can only hope Bronco gets Manti Teo, and Kyle Van Noy like
scout.com says we may get both of them. They are big and fast and highly rated.
Here's luck to the cougars because I think it will take some luck to beat them
Saturday. I love the cougars but I don't see us being able to compete
defensively, or being able to stop Utah's offense.
Well, I used to work the sidelines for WAC/MWC games, and I was at several
BYU/Utah games. I heard terrible language (swearing) insluts that would make a
sailor blush, and saw cheap shots all day long from BOTH sides.I was
a little surprised at first until I realized that they are just football teams.
BYU Football != LDS religion or values.I think it would
do well for both sides to remember that.
This is the BIGGEST GAME EVER. In istory of games in College Football this game
has gotta be in the top 5. Ever! ever! Ever. ever. ever.
i have never seen such trash talkers in my life. why don't all you no-life
people just pay your money and go watch the game and enjoy yourself and quit
trash talking. If the Y wins great if the U wins great we are all utahns
together win or lose. or maybe its the (mormons) good against the bad people???
nice guys finish last.
Hey "Mr. Souble Standard", Do you mean to say BYU won the 1984 National title by
a "hail mary" pass?If that's what you're saying, get your facts
straight... the hail mary was thrown by Jim McMahon a different year. The QB
for the 1984 season was Robbie Boscoe!
to:"To Ernest T. Bass | 3:15 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008 Are you kidding me. How
many points did you score on TCU, oh yeah 7, how many did you allow, 32."BYU vs TCU, while the Utah players were safely tucked in their beds,
Utah played their greates game this season. Utah dominated the BYU team
"through" TCU...Ute fans, quit hiding behind TCU's skirt and come
out on the field. It's time to settle this, and it's not going to be
done by the seven degrees of seperation of Kevin Bacon Ute logic...Head to head, can you handle it?
OK, so I won't say NEVER. However, the classless Ute fans FAR outnumber the
classless Cougar fans! I know, since I've been watching this rivalry in my
adult years since 1978!
Utah has more speed, athletes, and oh yeah overall TEAM SPEED!! Remember what
TCUs team speed did to your offense? expect more of the same in this game!!
expect max hall to be on his back ALL NIGHT!!You Y fans that are going up to the
game this week will see the fastest defense you have witnessed the Lady Cougs
play all year!! Utah 28 BYU 17
after reading all of the great posts by byu fans, I now think that they are
right. They have a huge national reputation that has nothing to do
with that cult... opps, I mean religion. They are so much better
than everyone else - not just the team but the people - just ask them, they will
tell you. They live the right way. They have just as much tradition,
if not more, than Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida,
Penn State.....etc. etc.We are all lucky to have them and their fans
in our conference and in our state.
The bottom line for how you're treated at each other's stadium depends on how
you act while there. Some fans attend the rivalry game in the
opponent's home field and deliberately stand up and taunt the home fans. For
those people, they deserve what they get! If you are just cheering
for their team and not taunting, they should be left alone! The
problem is with alcohol involved at RES the likelihood of bad things happening
there is MUCH higher, regardless of whether you're taunting or just cheering for
Boy, what a lot of snake spit. Look these are both excellent football teams.
BYU is probably at some disadvantage being on the road and banged up pretty good
from what I can see. But the people saying these teams are over rated simply
speaks as a fan and not as someone who knows the game. Technically,
both are sound in every aspect of the game. BOTH TEAMS commit errors. SLIGHT
EDGE TO UTAH ON DEFENSE, SAME TO BYU ON OFFENSE. I watched Fui
Vakapuna sandwith a TD run with two of the most boneheaded missed blocking
assignments of all time. He is usually better. I watched Asiata make the same
mistake twice against TCU. He's better most of the time too. Overall, these are
consistent. They block, tackle, run, pass and play fundamentally as good as
almost any other ranked program. They're appropriately ranked. WHEN
THE BCS GIVES THE 6 MEMBER CONFERENCES AN INCREDIBLE HEAD START AND MORE VOTERS,
THE MWC HAS THREE HIGHLY RANKED TEAMS. THAT COMES BECAUSE OF EARNED RESPECT, NOT
FLUFF AND MARKETING!The WINNER here should get the BCS invitation
regardless of what BSU does. BSU has played nobody!
Man it isnt even going to be a close game.BYU is going to shut them out in
the first half and end up creaming them in the 2nd half. The Score will
be:BYU 38Utah 10GO COUGS BABY

LES Stadium holds 65,000, RES holds 45,000.Which stadiums back east
hold more than 110,000? Penn State's, which holds 107k, is the biggest in the
country, and only Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee are over 100,000.
both byu and utah have their fair share of bonehead fans. but as previous
posters have noted there definitely seems to be a lot more anger and hatred
amongst some of the ute fans. i have seen it myself and it is borderline absurd.
after all, it is a game. maybe too much to drink?who cares about the
bcs. we need to win this game on principal alone. wanting utah to win to bring
the mountain west respect? no way. any true byu fan, or utah fan for that
matter, would want their team to win the holy war.it is surprising
to see how overconfident the ute fans are. knowing it is a rivalry game all bets
are off. if i were the utes i would be a little concerned. so much too lose.
don't be surprised if you end up in new mexico or san diego.just my
I'm a Coug alum, and love the blue. But I have to agree with you, we just don't
match up this year. I'd be very surprised, if the boys in blue win this year.
re:Mr. BYUI have seen many Holy Wars since 1970, at both stadiums.
I do feel comfortable taking mt wife and Children to LES. I think
the Haka, the cougar growl, the judgemental looks and the popcorn song are all
stupid, but safe.I would NEVER, as a husband and father, subject
them to the antics of RES, the inebriated, foul moth, cheap-shotting Ute fans,
Smacking people from behind, stumbling out like real men. I didn't "read it in
the paper so it's true", I watched and heard. I would feel much safer in a Biker
Bar in Barstow than RES.Maybe over where the Utah season ticket
holders sit it's different, but sitting in the BYU seats, it's downright
ugly.So don't be painting it in you fairytale red Ute minds
differently. It is what it is. Ute fans are what they are.Instead of
suggesting that it is different than it is, just do your best to try to change
the culture and reputation of the Ute fans.
HEy fool,YE WITH LITTLE FAITHBYU IS GOING TO WIN SPUDUTAH IS
If the prediction is for a high scoring 45 to 38 affair, it will be 7 to 3.
If you're predicting a low scoring game it'll be a blow out. The truth is all
bets are off in a rivalry game. Prediction: Sorenson kicks a last second 55
yarder to win by 2. Cougs wins.
Hey all you fans that live in a bubble. Ya that is you BYU fans. Let me tell you
some stats that you need to be aware of. You have all been lulled to sleep by
Tom Holmoe and Bronco Mendenhall. BYU has not played a top 10 team since 2002.
So their record looks real good to you all but in reality they are just a good
Mountain West Conference team. They played a 23rd ranked TCU team this year and
got crushed. As of 2 weeks ago, BYU's apponents that they had beaten had a
combined record of 19 wins and 43 loses. Not a hard schedule. But now they get
#8 Utah. Let's see how good they really are.
As a faithful Ute for many years during the GREAT the good and the bad times my
BYU friends have all ways preached to me to support for what is best for the
conference. So what is best for the conference? Utah in BCS bowl game? Or a
loss to BYU? It seems to me every one should want the Utes to win and go BCS
bowl busting but then again the shoe is on the other foot.. Its Utahs turn and
their on top with everything to gain and build the conference. isnt time to put
your money where your mouth is? Go Utes it our year again!!!!!
"To: Mike Buys | 5:45 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008 I'm a Coug alum, and love the
blue. But I have to agree with you, we just don't match up this year. I'd be
very surprised, if the boys in blue win this year."I have watched
BYU and Utah all year long. BYU is 10-1, BCS ranking 14. Utah is 11-0, BCS
ranking 7.BYU was beat by TCU. Utah needed two 4th quarter FG misses
by TCU' freshman kicker from 30 yards to win. NOT blocked FGs, but missed.BYU beat UNM 21-3, Utah squeaked by 13-10. BYU beat AFA 38-24, Utah won
by a TD, 30-23.I don't care how blue you are, or red. If you are
surprised if BYU beats Utah, you are not a college football fan. If anyone
thinks either team is overrated, they are not college football fans.Neither team can really claim homefield advantage in these rivalry games.
Neither team travels, and both teams sleep at home the night before the game.
BYU can go through their pre-game strategy in their own team room.I
won't be surprised if either team wins. Utah is -6 1/2. Take BYU and the spread.
no denying this is going to be a great game. I'm not a big fan of either team.
one question though.....why do they call it the Y?
I'm sorry I made all those comments last year about Austin Collie now.I hope he doesn't take all of those statements I made and twist them to make
him focus and take it out on my team.If he beats Utah again, because
of me, I take all the blame. I know he forgives me in my heart, and
will not take it out on the Utah football program. We need the BCS money,
because it is embarassing having this big stadium built for the Olympics, only
to have it fill up on a regular basisbecause BYU has all of the fans.We need the money to have the seats taken out because when we start losing
again, I hate sitting in a empty stadium.
You better watch your mouth or it will get popped this saturday
Welcome to your BCS bowl week, Cougar fans!! Good luck, little brother!! Honestly, at one time I could not imagine Cougar fans obsessing over and
hating the Utes more than they already do. But if Utah wins on Saturday, that
obsession and hatred will be OFF THE CHARTS!! That would give the Utes 2 BCS
bowls to your ZERO.This week will most likely be the closest the
Cougs ever get to a BCS bowl.GO UTES!!
Hey "Seen It":I can tell you received your education from byu so
I'll use small words so you will understand this message.I guess you
are saying you "seen it" at RES and LES?I have been a season ticket
holder for 25 years at the U of U and have never witnessed any attacks of other
teams fans in our stadium. I can say that the worst fans are definately from
Wyoming and from BYU. Wyoming fans are rude and generally out of control.
Kewger fans are generally a combination of ignorant, rude and arrogant.Although I have always entered LES with respect to the other team's fans and
school, I have been abused simply by wearing my school's team colors. Please don't make yourselves look even more foolish by making general
statements that all Ute fans drink alcohol, launch verbal attacks and start
fights. The same goes on at your university! I have a good buddy who takes his
flask of alcohol to every byu game as he has season tickets and is a huge kewger
fan.Last years assult of an innocent Ute fan at LES was proof that
fans are fans in different colors.
Remember the "Wild Hog" formation TCU used with their fast receiver? Utah has a
quarterback that is just as fast in corbin louks. I wouldn't be surprised if
loukes gets a few more snaps this saturday.
why can't you cougies just shut up you always post on these and talk trash. We
all know if all depends on who shows up to play we know it you know it now admit
Check out Bryson Kearl's article about the rivalry. He writes for Square
Magazine, and he makes some really good points, even though he is blatantly
biased towards BYU.
Are you serious? Really? Bash the BYU education? What are you like many Ute fans
who decided to get bitter towards BYU when your multiple applications to BYU
were denied? Claiming that Ute fans aren't rude to visiting Cougar
fans is nothing short of pathetic. I have been to BYU-Utah game in RES, and been
called all kinds of horrible things and even had a coke thrown at me. So save
it. Ute fans love to do all kinds of crap to prove they aren't boring Mormons
like the people from Provo.
Are YOU serious? Really?!?! I don't think you want to compare educations,
homes, cars, jobs, etc., with me. FYI, I chose to pursue a career in the
medical field. Obviously the U. of Utah was the best local choice. I didn't
apply at your school. As for pointing fingers only at Ute fans, it
may be YOU that is pathetic and ignorant. You see, fans are fans. Both schools
have good fans and bad fans.Perhaps you aren't aware that the
majority of Utah Ute fans are "boring Mormons like the people from Provo". Your
generalizations paint you into a corner. My advice would be to think prior to
pressing "Add your comment".Go Utes!!
You forgot to read the last page.BYU 52utah 17And the utes fans cried in sorrow. The end.True Utah
RE: all ute fans: Come up with something new, you have posted the same thing

Reply to:"BYU BCS Bowl Week Welcome to your BCS bowl week, Cougar fans!!
Good luck!!" That would give the Utes 2 BCS bowls to your ZERO."How many times has Utah's game against BYU been Utah's last game, their
"Bowl Game".BYU will come out of this, win or lose, just fine. Utah,
a different story. Talk about hate. Pre-TCU, BYU will never make BCS, and now
Utes are entitled? I don't tink so. Utah has so much to gain, and we all know
how BJ plays in pressure games. Utah is good, but are they BYU good? And help me with your Utah math. If Utah does win, and gets a BCS Bowl, how
many BCS Bowls equal a NC, trophy, banner and all?One more quick
question, most BYU fans refer to Utah as the U of U, Utes, etc. Why the need for
all the immature zoobies, bubble, kitty cats, kitty litter, etc. If
BYU fans treat you civil, with common courtesy, why the need to go all Third
Grade in your posts? Can we ask for a little respects from our brothers to the
North. When the game is over, I'll still be cheering for both-teams.
all loyalties aside...doesn't it make sense for Utah to win this
weekend...That would bring BYU (as a team from the conference of a BCS
bowl team) MORE money than winning the joke of the las vegas bowl game!
So, you are entitled to the game.I'd rather just beat you down, like
what was intended from the start of season and get our BCS money the old
fashioned way, by earning it.It's in our grasp. Why not just take
it?We're BYU Football. We have class, self respect. That is the way
we do things.Utah is so familiar with taking handouts, they don't
see it as a lack of respect, they see it as an entitlement,
i think that this is the best game... after all both teams have wanted if more
then ever and think that they can have. Go Cougs.
April 1906 - The plans to construct the BYU on the mountain were begun.
Professor Ernest D. Partridge was assigned to conduct a survey and designed the
emblem. When this was complete, a line of high school and university students,
and some faculty, passed buckets of lime, sand, and rocks up the mountain in
order to fill up the letters. After six hours of hard labor, only the Y had been
completed, so the filling in of the remaining two letters was postponed and
later abandoned. The large white Y on the side of the mountain has
become the nationally recognized insignia for BYU and the reason why BYU is
often called "the Y". It is made of concrete and is 380 feet high and 130 feet
wide (116 by 40 m). No other college in the United States has a larger symbol,
in fact, the Y is even larger than the letters in the "Hollywood sign" in
California. That is Why it is caled the "Y".
Okay, I've been a loyal Cougar fan for a long time, but I will be amazed if the
Cougs can even keep this close. I predict a Utah win by 3+ touchdowns. This
Cougar team got too full of themselves during their bye week, and haven't looked
like a top 25 team ever since. Even so, I'll say it just as heartily as ever,
"Anonymous | 9:16 p.m. all loyalties aside...doesn't it make sense
for Utah to win this weekend...That would bring BYU (as a team from the

endowments. $1, while it is not pocket change, will not make a huge impact on
BYU.Also, BYU as a shot at BCS after beating Utah. Now, the 8
million would help.
Wow! By your reasoning, Florida doesn't belong in the top 10. The best team
they've beaten is #11, Georgia. The only other ranked team they've won is LSU.
They also lost to unranked Mississippi. Yet, many think they will play for the
championship. USC lost to Oregon State who very well may be the PAC 10
champion. Who has USC beaten but Ohio State? Speaking of which, who has Ohio
State beaten that is currently ranked other than Michigan State? Michigan State
will be ranked lower than TCU and Oregon State after next week, and they have
yet to beat a ranked team. How about # 11, Georgia? The only ranked team
they've won is LSU who almost lost to Troy, and is rightfully ranked lower than
BYU and TCU. How about Missouri, Ball State, Cincinnati,Pitt,NC, Miami & Oregon
who have yet to beat a ranked team! #12 Oklahoma State has only beaten
Missouri. You might be able to argue that Penn State belongs ahead of Utah, but
Penn State's only two ranked wins are Ohio State and Oregon State. Utah has
beaten Oregon State, and TCU. The BCS computers put Utah at 4th for a reason!
Please! Sakoda has shown time and time again he can kick under pressure, but
Utah is going to kill BYU just like they did in 2004. Sorry, but no BCS for you
BYU fan at 5:44"....it is surprising to see how overconfident the
ute fans are.knowing it is a rivalry game all bets are off....."Same
can be said about many of the BYU fans who arepredicting a pasting. That said...The game "generally" ends up close when one of the teams is
favored heavily (think 2003, 2006)....and the game ends more comfortably when
we think it will be a nail biter (think 1996) The only game that lived to the
hype of 2 good teams was 1994.Utah will be favored (5 points was the
initial line). Given that home field is generally worth 4 points in vegas lines
this game would be a pick 'em on a neutral field.Utes 38 BYU 28
with Utah surging to an early lead and holding on at the end (ala 2005)
Your comments are so ignorant, they don't deserve a response, but here goes:WY - Many Y fans like to think this means the U's offense can't perform,
but they miss one big issue. The U's offense can't run up any yards while the
score is being ran up by the defense! Example: WY runs down the field 4o yards,
and then coughs up the ball and we move it down to the 10. That means our
offense can only score 10 yards of offense, and then WY gets the ball back.
Looks like our offense did nothing, but we scored and they didn't. You also
miss the point that we played that game in WY with a bad wind that reduced the
pass options. TCU - Utah won, BYU lost badly!Oregon State -
Utah won. I don't care what you say about the PI, they make up part of the
game, and we won. By the way, it wouldn't have been close if we didn't spot
them 13 in turnovers.Colorado State, UNLV, San Diego State, TCU -
Utah played and beat by larger margins than BYU!2-0: # of ranked
teams Utah has won versus BYU.
Considering the caliber of the shutouts versus the other games, I think it is
obvious the "no secondary" defense will show up, and Utah will kick butt!
Oregon State defeated USC, Utah defeated Oregon State, Utah is 11-0 all sounds
pretty impressive to me. Go Utes
Alex Smith would be one of the best QBs in the NFL if he had an offensive line.
Steve Young had to retire because he was getting his bell rung too many times as
a QB for the 49ers because they had no offensive line, and it has only gotten
worse since then!
Wrong year to base that prediction. Try a score like the one in 2004. That's
what you will see as Utah gets its 2nd BCS invite!
Is no Steve Young. Never will be, don't blame the offensive line.
I'm just saying byu's secondary may be there best unit and they've dominated
this year. Great tackling. Grate speed.Austin Collie should change his
name to Awesome Collie.Pita is good to.Max Hall will be the favorite
to win the Hizeman next year. byu will win by lots of points.
I disagree about USC and Alabama. Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma are
definitely not on my list of BCS hopeful match-ups! Alabama has won only two
ranked teams, Georgia and LSU. LSU almost lost to TROY! Georgia has won only
one ranked team, LSU. Alabama has almost lost to Mississippi, KY, and LSU.
They are going to be whipped by Florida! USC lost to Oregon State. There
conference wins are over a PAC 10 conference that the MWC beat 6-1. They have
only one ranked win which is Ohio State. Ohio State is sooo overrated it isn't
funny. They have only beaten one ranked team which is Michigan State. I think
Utah could handle USC.
Wrong year. We're going to have a repeat of 2004, not 2006 or 2007.
your right Alex is no steve young, he didn't have the benefit of learning from a
legendary coach, playing behind and learning from the greatest qb to play the
game and didn't have the greatest wr to throw to on team loaded with talent on
both ends of the ball. Why don't you look back at Youngs Tampa Bay years and
see what playing with a team with no talent gets you.
Good night all. The past reading was great entertainment and mubh better than
TV. Saturday's game will be one of the great ones. Utah certainly
has more to lose and BYU has only the game on the line. Either way, they miss
the LV Bowl for the conference champs and go to a better bowl. BYU
by 3, 24-21.
When Steve Young played for Tampa Bay he had terrible numbers because the team
was pathetic. Young inherited a championship caliber team when he stepped in to
replace Joe Montana. Immediately his numbers improved and he turned into a hall
of famer. If Alex Smith were given the same opportunity, his numbers
would improve dramatically. I'm not saying Alex Smith is as good as Steve
Young, he isn't, but he would be a solid quarterback.Cougar fans
need to lighten up. Alex Smith is a great young man who will improve over
time. To: Chuck Norris.... you crack me up! The Y and U have several
more common opponents where the U's numbers are better (UNLV, CSU, SDSU, USU)
but you fail to mention those games! You forgot one more in favor for the Y,
the Wyoming game. But really, who cares about those games? The only game that
matters will be played on Saturday. This rivalry is fun but let's try
to keep our comments with a little more class.Go Utes!!
TCU 32 BYU 7 Nuff Said!! TCU thinks BYU is a big joke and so do i ha ha ha
All these comments about other stadiums hospitality. All I know know is that
i've never seen a half full beer can thrown at someone at LES, only at RES. You
Yewts are pathetic. Own up to your redneck ways.PS it's pretty sad when
your team's best player is a kicker.
to:re: Yep,thatsKylewiththehurtin'tPoint being, that both teams
outplayed common opponents on both sides.Utah's cry is TCU, but
there are others. And BYU played better against some teams also.Neither team can honestly predict a win. There are scenarios
that favor BYU, and some that favor Utah.Unfortunately for Utah, it
has to be played on the field, not in each fans own mind. This one is
up for grabs.I do think Austin Collie will play out of his head,
have a career game, and Utah fans are going to have to suck it up and deal with
C'mon folks, let's get real here. All these comments are as if you are (or
think you are) professional coaches. Yeah right.... I'm a Utah
Graduate, and both a Ute and Cougar fan! Why is that so hard? Both schools
represent the great state of Utah period. It really would have been
excellent if BYU had not lost to TCU, but they did unfortunately. However, here
we have a very simple decision to make. A Ute win solidifies a solid BCS birth,
and a good bowl for BYU as well. A BYU win takes it all away. As much as I
love BYU too, it is a simple choice, this year Utah must win, and win BIG. Utah
playing Alabama, Texas, or Texas Tech would allow the Mountain West (and BYU) to
get the respect they deserve. Let's make it happen Utes! What a battle to

impressed.LaVell Edwards, Jim McMahon and Gordon Hudson thank you
for remembering their contribution to those glorious Cougar teams of the
mid-1980s.I wholeheartedly concur -- although I think you might
consider cutting Urban Meyer a little slack, he is at least able to compete for
a national championship now that he's at Florida. At least he recongnized that
only LaVell was able to achieve that from a non-BCS league.
Why don't we also bring up Joe Hodges from way back when...I don't
actually know if that's a real person, the point is why bring up players that
don't even matter in this game. Both quarterbacks are good and if they're lucky
will get traded somewhere else where they have a line to block for them and
receivers to throw to. Beck's team is actually doing well this year, but
that isn't just because they have Chad Pennington. They revamped a lot of the
team.Alex Smith's team just sucks. Even though the quarterback changes
from week to week, the constants remain: he's going to get sacked... a lot, the
receivers are going to drop balls... a lot, and he's going to get injured.Stick with the game at hand.
It's the new uniforms, stupid. The TDS failed miserably with the new look. Can
you imagine what UnderArmour is thinking right now? Get our sales rep down to
Provo ASAP. If byu wants to know what they look like, tune into National TV for
the Sugar Bowl.Go Utes.
What's black and white and red all over? BYU will be wearing all white to
offset the UTEs black look. The answer is RES!
It is sad that both QB's got stuck on awful teams. They threw Beck in after
trading their best reciever and their RB got injured. Then after the season they
bring in Parcells who has a bad habit of recycling QB's he coached on previous
teams. Alex was just on a bad team with an awful coach, new
offensive cord each year and an awful Oline, not saying that he is great or will
be but I don't think Steve Young or Joe Montana would of had success on that
team. Hopefully he recovers from his injury and has a productive career. If
former MWC Qb's do good in the pros it should help with recruiting and making
our conference stronger.
The Utes will fall to the Cougars and the Broncos will get the BCS. The Utes
couldn't beat the Broncos in 2005 and could not do so this year either.
One Word: UNDEFEATED. I don't know why people are predicting such a close game.
The Utes own the MWC and theyll send the little kitties crying home to Provo.
I predict a good massacre and lots of blue blood. GO UTES!
Byu will win. They have tons of big playmakers on both sides of the ball. And
Utah doesn't. Byu is better in every category except maybe rushing. Let's not
forget Byu beat Wyoming, Air Force, and some other team alot worse than Utah
did. Utah is way overrated. They haven't beaten anyone good with the exception
of Tcu. Byu willwin. By alot. It's really a no-brainer here. I mean c'mon,
seriously. BYU COUGARS- 52 utah utes- 23 :) :) :) GO

Utah will probably beat BYU. That will put them in a BCS game, and at that time,
they will get exposed. They have played weak teams all year, often winning close
games, and the type of team they will get in a BCS game will be much better than
anyone they've faced yet. I'm a BYU fan, but I'm also realistic, and BYU isn't
that good. They've played a weak schedule, and they got worked by the only good
team they've played so far. Not only that, but the "good" team--TCU--isn't all
that good. Maybe BYU gets lucky and pulls off the upset, but they probably
won't. They'll get to play a bad Pac-10 team, whom they'll beat, and they'll get
a lot of money from the Utes BCS appearance. So to me, it's a win-win for the
Cougars. They get to win, get money from the Utes, and watch Utah get humiliated
in a bowl game. Not bad.
