I've never seen so many balls bounce off the goalpost in my life. Yura, Mathis,
and Olave really blew it tonight. I thought Findley was fantastic and set up
extremely easy opportunities that our guys couldn't finish. We were gift
wrapped at least 6 wide open nets and couldn't convert on any of them. Though I
can appreciate how close we were on many opportunities, these guys are paid to
win games and score goals, and they couldnt' get it done....Very
frustrating game. Better luck next year.
one mistake and hit the post three times... ran out of luck... glad RSL is
respectible and to be proud of going forward
Now we can all concentrate on the Utah/BYU game.I do have one
question, how can a sport have a two-game first round of playoffs, followed by a
one-game second round? By this math, the championship game would be one half,
right?How soccer of you.
Chin up RSL, at least there are the orange wedges and the participation
Yura was off his game from the first, he didn't sacrifice much effort for the
rest of his team. I guess his streak had to end some time. The
team had a great season
I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I felt like the team played great. Red Bull
capitalized in the first have and we didn't have it in us to get one in. Thanks
to a team that is changing salt lake into a soccer city. It was an amazing crowd
Good job RSL. We will be there next year to support your run for the cup again!
Always an RSL supporter. Great season, just couldn't finish tonight. The crowd
was amazing tonight. There should have been a lot more injury time, that New
York defender acted injured for atleast 10 minutes in the second half. Oh well.
We always have next year!!!
You have to feel for RSL, the luck just wasn't with them tonight as it had been
before, but also congratulations to the people of salt lake for supporting the
team throughout the season, looking forward to seeing you back at Rio Tinto next
No die hard soccer fan am I, but that was a fun game to watch, despite the low
score and the ending. Three balls off a post, and so many other close ones.
RSL won in every stat column except the one that counts. Here's to next
great season RSL!thanks for everything. and taking us into the playoffs
for the first time.i'll be there for you everygame next season/
Great job guys. Most people weren't thinking they would be disappointed that we
didn't win the western conference. This playoff run was a bonus for me and I am
glad to have been there cheering on the team. I have my seats for next year and
can't wait for it to start. Go RSL!!!
What a heartbreaker of a game tonight. Hats off to the RSL players and coaches.
Thanks for a great season. With that said, the Red Bulls and their antics are
what is wrong with soccer. The diving and fake injuries in the winding minutes
were horrible. Soccer needs to change the way stoppage time works. With only 4
minutes added to the end of a match when there was probably close to 10 minutes
of delays is horrible. Red Bulls have mastered stalling by complaining to refs
and coming up with fake injuries to a tee.
great game. great season. if only kries would've......subbed out the utterly ineffective mathis before the 90th minute....given andy williams more than 15 minutes to work his magic (he was
sensational once he got on the pitch)....subbed out russell instead
of olave (we could've used him on those 10 corners)...given
espindola a chance to add to his goal total. here's to next year...
I'm amazed one of those didn't get between the posts tonight. Part of it is bad
luck. Part of it is we need better finishers. We're only a few small
pieces away from being one of the more dominant teams in the league. Here's to next year!
Are you serious? Kries made the right call leaving an attacking Russell on and
taking off Olave. Russell makes great runs up the wing and creating chances.
Here is to those people who were saying Olave should have been the defensive
player of the year for RSL. Another bad decision lead to Olave being beat by
the Red Bulls. YOU CAN'T COMMIT IN THE FINAL THIRD OF THE FIELD!!!!! Well
anyways, thanks RSL and can't wait until next season!
Williams should have started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 15 minutes of play for Williams
and we are down most of the game. Not kreises best game.
I blame Olave......poor decision AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Three off the post, two NY hand balls in the box, and a forward further showing
his uselessness (Mathis). I hope those two minutes I saw of Deuchar weren't the
last I see of him in an RSL kit. THE RED BULLS DON'T PLAY SOCCER, I don't know
what that was they were playing last night, maybe "sit back and wait ball" or
"we're too bad to win on our own account so let's lay on the pitch for ten
minutes." NY's showing was a disgrace to the sport. Columbus will crush them.Nonetheless, thanks for the fun season RSL. Keep your heads up, work
hard over the off season, remember the confidence you gained these past games,
and let's hope the management get us a true winger who can put a good cross in
yes olave dove in and completely missed but watch the replay and see who in
nonchalantly jogging behind vandenbergh only to watch him tap it in. Oh yeah
that was number 3 Russell. All he had to do was take 3 more quicker steps and
he is in between the goal and the dutchman. Oh well maybe next year.
Dema had a great game vs chivas. But Once NY went up we needed better possession
and finesse. Williams should have come on immediately. Findley's 30 mins were
way more constructive than Mathis' 90. It's really time for him to go. With him
not really delivering much it's fair to say The DR. should have been in much
earlier. Truthfully, if the Dr or Findley play instead of Mathis
over this stretch we do better. Maybe Clint should stay on D
though, we know he can take people out.Yes, Olave created another NY
All season long I have been using shallow arguments and cheap shots against this
team, and yet the stadium sold out last night. Clearly I am just an ineffectual
to the sports world of Utah filled with wouldas, couldas and shouldas.
Agreed, coach Kreis should've been more aggressive in his substitutions as this
was sudden death, but then again with slightly more belief during the regular
season the players would have trained that 1% better and been able to convert
one of those missed chances which missed by inches. As the team
converts all the haters into supporters they will only get better! This match was true drama and showed the nation that soccer offers something
extra which no other sport can!
An exciting game to end a great season...hopefully we can build from here.
What game were you watching, Mathis played great, he controlled the ball, came
back and won it on several occasions, and did his job by drawing defenders away
from morales. Mathis was awesome last night, RSL played great but was unlucky
in the end. The team is much better with Cleatus on the pitch.
Salt Lake City wake freaking up. You hosted the western conference finals and
some of you don't even know or care. Real Salt lake is legit and real and put
it up. They dominated all game. They put on a clinic of how to roll a team.
Unfortunately they could not put it in. I love real salt lake and hate all you
salt lake county people who tried to move them out. Go REAL! And go Cougs!
Utes are over rated bad!
We had three big mistakes. Olave's miss, Russell didn't follow his man and
Kries didn't make subs when he needed to. I like Clint but you cannot leave him
on the pitch just because you were his best man. Dema cries about not playing
so he starts over Williams. This cost us the game. EVERY time Andy is on the
pitch we have played better. I feel as a fan that we are yelling to have
Williams in the game and all to often the coaches found a way to put him on the
bench. Great year! Looking forward to next.
Last night was a great night of soccer and RSL should have gotton the result,
but thats what happen's in Soccer sometimes the goals just don't fall. I already
look forward to next season. As to the play of Mathis last night? He
stunk!!especially in the last 30 minutes there is no excuse for why Jason
Kries whould keep clint on so long. He was spent and did nothing. In the biggest
game of this teams history, its most dangerous striker (Espindola) sits while
Jason's boy Mathis continues his 13 game streak of 00000000 in production.Lets hope Seattle is dumb enough to pick him up in the expansion draft. Or??
what if Kries makes him a protected player??? That would be about as dumb as
playing him 90 last night.
Mathis was awful. If you watch the game he missed three oportunity to even get
a shot on goal. One play the ball was perfectly crossed to him and he was wide
open for a shot and he missed the ball. Unmistakable awful. He is not a good
player. I really hope that we can get rid of him. For the love.
I WAS SO DISGUSTED BY THE BEHAVIOR OF THE UTAH FANS! Wow!! My
family paid $25.00 a ticket to see the game and all we saw was the backside of
the jerks who were standing in front of us, refusing to sit down when asked.
The security guards were of no help. We were there, spending 350.00 for our
tickets and no help when the people in front PURPOSELY stood there just to
irritate all of the fans behind, they didn't care about the game at all, they
were merely there to be jerks. My dad is 82, there is no way he could stand for
the entire game, and even with my 9 and 12 year old standing didn't help them at
all ... nor the little kids behind us. Shame on the security guards
for not enforcing some kind of respectable behavior. We will NEVER
pay to see a game again...since we didn't see this one either. Nice
going jerks!!! We actually came to sse the game!! what a huge disappointment in
the stadium the fam behavior and the whole experience. What a RIP OFF
Not to sound like a jerk Fan, but the crowds at soccer games are a lot different
than at other sporting events. They like to stand, chant, sing, throw streamers
and smoke bombs (which was awesome by the way). It is kind of like standing in
the student section at a college sports game. This is either bad or good
depending on what you are expecting when you go to a game. If you don't like it
that is fine, but don't call those fans jerks. It is how it is done at soccer
games. By the way, the fans were amazing last night. That was honestly one of
the funnest games I have ever been to. And we should be proud of RSL. Great
season. Better than we all expected.
For a jr. high game!!! If it's true that "fan" paid anything for soccer
tickets, he/she got ripped off because they give them out free all over the
place. Most of the stadium was empty and the bottom line is, nobody cares.
Soccer in America is dead and walking.
Very nice to label and entire state and 20,000 other fans for what you claim is
bad behavior by a handful. That makes a lot of sense.
rsl loses. Couldn't have happened to a nicer (unwanted) team!!
To reply to Fan @4:36; good I am glad that you won't be coming back. We don't
want fans to come if you are just going to sit there. We need more fans that
are willing to get more into the game. Sorry thats just the way the game goes.
Um, Fan, this; I take it, is the first professional soccer game you have seen on
TV or in person? You weren't aware that during playoff (or Cup, if you prefer)
knockout games, fans get excited and like to stand up?Soccer fans
aren't baseball fans. We actually care about the game. Watching the game for
us is more important than chatting on our cell phones or going to get more
nachos. I think that they could have put your dad in one of the special-needs
sections with the folding chairs.I could not believe that the people
in the expensive seats were actually standing up and making noise toward the end
of the game.Way to go, Prawn Sandwich Crowd! The
strangest thing I saw was some visiting fans. There aren't that many expatriate
New Yorkers around here. Some of them must have stayed in hotels and paid that
hotel tax. But on the other hand, seeing as they are New Yorkers, they probably
boycotted our pizza.
The stadium was sold out, so explain how it could be "mostly empty?" If you
wanna criticize, at least open your eyes before you open your mouth.
First of all, I agree that the fans last night were great. I hope that over time
MLS soccer in the US will catch on and we'll have that European feel to the
matches. We've got the stadium already and I think some of the fans are on
board, we just need to keep the ball rolling and I think that Saturday night
gave us a glimpse of what can be in the future with more ENGAGED fans. Great
stuff! As far as the game went, it's really unfortunate to see RSL lose on
a goal that was such a fluke. RSL had loads of chances to put the ball in the
back of the net but continually came up empty handed. Overall though, great play
by RSL. Watching the highlights of the game on the MLS website is heart
breaking, but once again, I think that this can be a glimpse of things to come
in the future years of RSL soccer!
There was a tie in the NFL this week. Let's look back at your other posts and
see what you think about a sport that has ties. It ok they also slid a ball
through there legs and slap each other on the butts.
If you don't want to stand then you shouldn't go to an exciting game. I got my
tickets early and was on the 2nd row and it is impossible to just sit there when
our team needs our energy. All we can do is get up and cheer them on to victory
or in this case a unlucky loss. Next time get tickets earlier or go to something
else if you don't/can't stand "the whole game" like the U of U games. There
isn't a reason to stand at those games.
I can understand your frustration, however... You know there is a family section
for kids, and special seats for disabled and elderly persons. Sorry, but the
MLS Western Conference finals was probably not the right time to leisurely take
in a nice match. During the second half I think just about everyone in the
stadium was standing. It is a domino effect. If people in front of you stand
then you need to stand. It was just too exciting a game! I really really doubt
the fan were doing it to purposely irritate you. 'One timers' like yourself
fail to realize the true significance and emotion invested by us, the 'here from
the beginning' fans. I've heard both sides complain about this. Spectators
wanting fans to sit and fans wanting the freedom to stand. I think RSL needs to
somehow make adjustments to satisfy both the idle spectators and fans. Both
types of markets are very important for RSL to succeed as a business. Any
There haven't been any comments about the horrible officiating. I saw at least 6
times when our guys got tackled like NFL style in the box and the ref was too
chicken to give us the PK. It took him way too long to give out a yellow card
and when our guy got kicked in the face like the picture shows that should have
been a red card. I sat in the Cornel's Corner (sp?) and there was a play in the
first half where the ball was already out of bounds and one of the NYRB players
kicked the ball as hard as he could into the crowd. It's fortunate that my wife
and I were on the 2nd row and a guy was standing in front of us because if he
would have hit my wife in the face, there would have been a delay will security
pulled me off him. I was suprised that NYRB's coach was so classy after the game
though when he said we should have equalized but that's soccer.
Interesting enough, we had Andy in the bench 3/4 of the game. And with an ugly
lack of definition we kept Espindola out, when he IS the one with 12 goals in 22
games played this season. And he is ready to play, he is not injured now, all
was a blatantly mistake of our banner coach! Mathis playing err, walking for 90
minutes? Where was the offense? There was no preparation whatsoever from the
coaching staff for this very important game.
Re: I cannot believe. I thought the referee team actually did a
really good job on Saturday. They let play go on, but called the necessary
calls. Great job.Re: born in soccer landEspindola
hasn't scored 12 goals. Where did you get that stat from? I agree that Mathis
should have been subbed off earlier, but Deachar would have been the person to
pull him off for. New York was packing the goal mouth and letting our wing
players run free. A real crossing threat is exactly what was needed.
...stay home.Glad your pops came, but I'm not going to sit just so
you have a better view.Also....next time bring a smoke bomb or
two...if you can't beat em...join em.
American Throwball has ties too.It looks like the haters just lost one
more argument. - Tie? What tie? Thanks to Donovan McNabb,
players around the league now must know there doesn't have to be a winner or
loser in every regular-season game. Yes, there are ties in the NFL. They just
don't happen too often.A day after the Philadelphia Eagles and
Cincinnati Bengals played a 13-13 tie -- the league's first since 2002 -- the
focus wasn't on how poorly the teams performed on the field. Instead, everyone
wanted to know how it's possible some professional football players, especially
a 10-year veteran such as McNabb, don't know simple rules about overtimes
games.Looks like many haters don't even know the rules of their own
20,008 fans were there... what are you talking about
Hard to imagine someone complaining about standing fans at a soccer game, that
is soccer and a exciting game gets people off their seats.
I'm pretty sure you are talking about me and my family over there in the corner.
i hears you say "sit Down" but i just couldn't the game was wat too intense and
you cant sit down durring a game like that. There is the family section so you
know there people sit down more. Me and my family are great fans of the sport,
we payed about the same for our tickets plus the cost of 8 season tickets, next
time ask the ticket sales where its good for families.Way to go RSL
congrats on the great season!and thank you for the props to the fans! We'll be
there next season!
