Few things make me happier than this humiliating loss. BYU has been EXPOSED.
And this is good for Utah.
what a game...for TCU.. Maybe next year cougars..
i thought we were better, I'll admit I was wrong
Sad day, but not really that surprising. TCU is a VERY good team and it is
always tough to win on the road.
It's really too bad that all the hype for the game on 11/22 will be diminished.
Count on BYU to not keep up their side of the deal.
Where are all the comments and smack talk now? chirpchirp
I don't even think BYU deserves to be in the top 25. They will probably remain
ranked for a few more weeks but they didn't look like a top tier program.
How about Las Vegas, that's close enough, right?
I thought BYU played about as good as they could, they just lost to a far
superior team. They can hold their heads up high. GO COUGS!!!
Hopefully, the Y will sign some 4 and 5 star recruits from the state of Texas
for 2009 since the Y is a superior team in the best conference in the country
and the Y is better than Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and LSU who
do more of their recruiting in the state of Texas
since most of us made comments 15 mins ago and now that story is gone, there is rejoicing in america tonight for this blow out win...... why,,,,,
the "investment" that was so phony and full of self pride is now just like the
stock market, down the tubesutes better bring their a game for the rest of
the year or they will be done in too,,,,, but they have not been beating their
chest about being the worlds best team for more then a year, just taking it one
game at a time utes have the same kind of speed and d as tcu.
BYU came out flap. They acted like they have never played football before. The
play calling was horrible and no adjustments were ever made, or maybe they were
and TCU was just that much better. Same old byu, they get your hopes up the rip
your heart out. They looked very overated tonight.
Hmmm,I was a little suspicious when we struggled against weak teams the last two
weeks. My suspicions were confirmed tonight. Next year in Provo.
Now here is a most interesting question. Where does BYU go bowling now. If Utah
wins out and Gets a BCS and TCU takes second, BYU is third and not going to
vegas. If Utah loses to TCU and TCU wins the conference, BYU is the third seed
if they lose to Utah. Man this wasnt a good night for us. I have never seen hall
hold on to the ball that much, so you know that the TCU secondary was amazing.
Their defense just looked unreal. Congrats TCU, GO Utes. The only way that BYU
has a chance at a BCS bowl is to win out, and have Utah win out til they play
BYU. Go Cougs
Hey maybe this will humble you Coug fans a little? I am so sick of you smack
talking about how bad Utah and Weber State supposedly are this year.
I thought the cougs played about as good as they could, they just lost to a
superior team in TCU. The cougs can hold their heads up high. I'm still proud
of them. They will dominate the rest of their games. GO COUGS!!!
OK Utah fans. Before you start going off about BYU's quest for perfection coming
to an end, keep in mind Utah still has to play TCU and BYU and they haven't
looked that sharp yet.I don't think TCU will match that emotion and
play that well again, but if they do then the Nov. 22nd game at RES could be
reduced to a battle for second place.Just goes to show how difficult
it is to go undefeated for an entire college football season plus a bowl game.
BYU 1984, Utah 2004, whose turn will it be in 2024?What a shame it
is that the MWC champion will likely be ranked higher, and will clearly be
better, than the champions of the ACC and Big East, yet Las Vegas Bowl may be
The pressure to be perfect is off their backs and maybe now they can relax and
just play football. That Quest for Perfection stuff can mess with your head.Anyone out there who grew up with that pressure to be perfect might
understand what I'm saying?Just be human, man! It gets easier when
you come back down to earth!
Unbelievable....as a Cougar Fan I am crushed. Another flop on the road.Another
trip to the Las Vegas Bowl :(. At least its close, and we still can take down
Utah again :).
Sorry BYU...That is rough! I was kind of hoping that you guys would win.
That is right!!! and get used to it cause your getting dominated again come
... the cougars are out...
Now the Cougs can concentrate on ruining Utah's season...
Anyone know where I can get a cheap "Quest for Perfection" t-shirt?
BYU finally plays someone with talent, and they get spanked. Everyone knew BYU
didn't belong in the elite. Good luck in the Vegas Bowl...if you make it.
Cougar fan here. The cougars played bad bad football tonight. I guess they
played bad football the past 3 games...just played a tougher team.No
speed, no heart, bad qb, bad defense, bad offense, bad preparation, bad
coaching. Hopefully the cougars can make it to a bowl game this year.It is too bad TCU will win the conference. The winner between these 2 teams
the past 3 years has won the conference. I do not see that changing this
year.Byu 10-2utah 11-1tcu 11-1 winning all conference
gamesGood luck in soccer and volleyball Good southern
Thanks to TCU they proved the BYU was just another overrated team playin in the
MWC. And thanks to BYU or TCU Utes will lose and allow the only realy non-BCS
BCS calliber team to plat in the BCS. BOISE STATE! At least Boise beat Oregon
soundly, BYU bearly beat one of the worst teams in the PAC10(WSU). Since the
rest of the country knows that BSU is the real deal we'll easily jump Utah and
take the BCS bid, thanks!
Maybe it's not enough to just plug players into the system. Maybe Bronco and the
coaching staff really need to start recruiting athletes.
BYU looked horrible. We would have been better off putting the CougarEttes into
the game. Way to go Bronco!
Overrated!!! Enough said.
The laughable minds of Provo can now return to Earth. On earth you will begin a
"quest for speed." May the force be with you:)HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAAH
Couldn't have pulled it out without all the help from the Utah and BSU fans who
will be taking the credit.
Man we were schooled tonight. I'm here to eat crow. I thought it would be close,
but I thought wrong. I still love the cougars, and dislike anyone they play.I'm
a sore loser. At least the loss came to the #1 defense in the nation. We can
start our quest for perfection all over again. I guess the only joy I will have
this week is my son being born. Of course he will be another cougar fan. We can
still win out the rest of the season. This loss will sting for awhile. I will
always expect the cougars to beat anyone they play, week in and week out. Next
saturday should be a good game.
BYU looked about the same as they have through the last 2 games - horrible...
This time it was against a decent team. Let's see if they fall the same amount
as (a now ranked #4) USC (who lost to an unranked team)...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA University of Utah 7-0BYU 6-1
Guess you better move to a lower conference, Bronco, 'cause your quest for
perfection just ended, and you can kiss your BCS bid good bye. You did
everything you could to dummy down your schedule already.
Who didn't see this coming? BYU is way overrated. So much for one of the most
prolific offenses in the country. BYU should drop to 21-25. They were exposed.
See you in the vegas bowl.
BYU looked horrible. They had no answers for TCU's offens
and definitely non-sense national championship discussion while they have
not played a worthy opponent until tonight. It's up to Utah now
--they better not "fumble" this opportunity.SoCalUtahFan
knew that was coming and the Utes with the same speed will do the same.
What has happened to BYU? They haven't looked good since the first quarter at
Utah State. Honestly the only thing that BYU has to look forward to now is
trying to beat Utah and spoil their BCS hopes.I wonder how far back
this will set the conference. Next time a team from the MWC looks half decent,
voters will think twice before ranking them so high. A devastating loss, the
impacts of which will continue to be felt for years to come.
Oh... I guess I forgot to mention that the Utes now have the longest win streak
in the country.
tcu is so much faster than byu. WOW! Maybe we should recruit some faster
players. Until we do we will never be able to truly compete with some of the
upper echelon teams ie, alabama, oklahoma, florida, Penn st. and apparently TCU.
Dick Harmon - "The BCS is so unfair, BYU deserves to be playing for the
championship" Uh, Dick "I mean the BCS conferences hold a monopoly and think
they are superior" Dick, can I tell you something? "BYU and even Utah should
play in the national championship game, the Mountain West is the best league in
the nation" DICK! BYU got pounded 32-7 by TCU! "What? Oh then, never mind,
but the Mountain West still deserves to be in the BCS" D'OH!
Finally BYU has been exposed for who they are. They haven't played like a Top
10 at all this year. Playing against a decent opponent magnified their
mistakes. Four turnovers? Ouch.
What a pitiful game. BYU forgot to get their guns strapped on and Max Hall did
an excellent job of helping the Horned Toads get a big jump on the Cougars. The
Cougars defensive effort was very low standard - but then it never was anything
special. You can tell that when a team has defensive speed, BYU will continue
to have its problems on offense Was there lack of motivation? Perhaps, when a
260 lb Defensive lineman can push a 320 lb Cougar backwards, it is an indication
of the lack of motivation on somebody's part, is it not?
how do you BYU fans like having a piece of humble pie shoved right in you
At least we still have our championship...
I suppose all good things must come to an end. I hope TCU takes the conference,
they certainly deserve it.
More proof that byu very rarely beats good teams.
Looks like BYU's best hope now is a Las Vegas Bowl rematch with UCLA. I can't
While this loss definitely does hurt, I am kind of glad in a way. I think BYU
players, coaches, and especially fans were way too arrogant. You know what they
say "Pride goeth before the fall." Hopefully this can squash all that BYU is too
good for the Mountain West talk that I've hear Wrubell and others talk about.
You can't go in there without trying to change your game plan to account for
TCU's awesome speed and to think that your "Superior execution" will get it done
is just arrogant.
First of all I never make comment's on these boards. However, I really felt that
tonight EXPOSED BYU for being VERY overrated. Don't get me wrong I feel BYU
deserves to be in the top 25, but not in the top 10. BYU finally plays a team
with a winning record and it just showed how week there schedule really was
previous to this point. I really do wish we could a saw a undefeated match up
between Utah and BYU in NOV but, thats just yesterdays news. TCU deserved all the
credit for this win and clearly is the better TEAM. Evidence by play on the
field. I'm trying not to be to Pessimistic on this loss tonight. However, i am
optimistic because I can plan a trip to Vegas this year to watch the BYU play in
the Las Vegas Bowl. I love vegas.Go Vegas BOWL
Sorta makes you want to move to Boise and live in Boise, and say you're from
Boise, and have a Boise State bumper sticker, and live in Boise, and have a
stadium with a bright blue field, and live in Boise, and have nothing to do but
be from Boise, and say Boise when people ask where you live, and see Boise
things everywhere, and be a Boise State fan, and live in Boise, and address all
your mail from Boise, and grow out a mullet because in Boise, it's business up
front and party in back, and live in Boise, and work in Boise.Nevermind...
I am at a loss for words... What a terrible game. TCU showed up though and they
deserved the win. C'mon Cougs, get it together.
everyone should have this coming. byu was clearly overrated.
BAH HAH HAH HAH HAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BAAAAAH HAAAH HAH HA HA
I am bummed that the cougs deflated the way they did.. I thought they really
belonged in the top ten, but it seems like that was all hype. Sorry cougs back
to reality. The quest for perfection was too much for Max he can not handle the
Pressure - overrated.. hope you have a parachute for the decent trip from the
No comments...say it all..we definitely got dominated tonight...but a one loss
season is by no means a failure....even two losses....so we will win out...win
our bowl game...finished ranked ahead of utah....and go back at it next
year.....were not leaving the national stage anytime soon.....
be thou humbled
byu should change their motto to "Quest for Mediocrity" because that's what they
BYU just flat out got dominated! TCU was much faster, controlled the clock, and
BYU just couldn't stop TCU. Too many turnovers for BYU. Better luck next year!
Same BYU team: When there on the road against a tough team, they lose.
B-Y-Who?! B-Y-Who?! B-Y-Who?! Hahahahaha!Collie...it looks like
you didn't live right off the field.....and the magic DID NOT happen! Thanks again BYU for letting the University of Utah move up in the polls and
you'll be dropping a few slots!!! hahahaha!BCS?! I don't think so!
You probably will still may make it to a bowl game (the New Mexico Bowl).
TCU loses to Oklahoma, BYU loses to TCU, Utah loses to BYU. Bottom line?
Mountain West loses $15 million. TCU in Vegas Bowl against Pac-10 5th place
team. BYU in Poinsettia Bowl vs. Pac-10 7th place team (they won't get 7 teams
in) and Utah in New Mexico Bowl against Wac lower team. D'OH!
So who was "fully invested?" The market just crashed, and worse than the real
market has crashed this past week.Sorry Cougs, maybe you should move
down to D-1AA where you like playing your games.
For those cougs who didn't get to hear the TCU fight song enough, just google
it, I'm sure you can find it (I would have provided the link, but they don't
allow URLs.Also, zoobies, don't try and spin this loss as bad for
Utah, it's not. Just let us sit back and bask in the glow of your loss.
Hew BYU the BCS is on the line . . . Oh what, it was a wrong number.
The Cougars were a big dissapointment tonight. The Horn Frogs looked like a
much better team. All Cougar fans pack your bags for Vegas, hey maybe you can
play UCLA and beat them again and get all fired up for 2009 season.
BYWHO was dominated. I repeat they were dominated...And to make it even better,
the"putty tats" now have to root for the UTES when they play
Well, this is a good reminder to me that football isn't the most important thing
in life. In fact, it's probably fairly low on the list. A good loss like this
is helpful in bringing me back to reality and helping me reevaluate my
priorities. I hope the Cougars do well the rest of the season, but
I expect I'll spend less time reading these sports articles and comments the
rest of the year.
Wow, I am at a loss for words... TCU showed up and deserve the win.. C'mon
Cougs.. wake up
a nice, humbling loss. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team.
Way to go Coogs and hold up your end of the BCS buster bowl in SLC on 11/22.
That was one sad lack of effort.
The quest for perfection was about living on and off the field wasn't it?The quest never ends....
Tough game for the cougs... This really was a chance for another non-BS school
to break through the glass ceiling and end the nonsense. Im a coug fan till I
die, but hats off to TCU. They earned it and showed up for the game. I always
root for any MntW Conf team. I hope they can keep it up.
Well, I was worried about how good the Cougs really are since this was their
first real test. Don't have to wonder anymore.
I am a die hard BYU fan, but I've silently thought all year that BYU was
unproven. Utah has had some wins against some tough opponents, TCU played very
well against Oklahoma, but BYU has played the likes of Utah State, A no name
team from the FCS, Wyoming, dismal UCLA and Washington teams, and yet somehow we
as fans seem to think that we have an elite team? Please. When we play
high-caliber opponents on the road and have a flawless year, I'll believe it.
Until then, I'm going to have to likely watch Utah bust the BCS (again) and show
BYU who the elite team in the conference really is. Why do I feel like I keep
watching a team that's just a flash in the pan? Why do we keep breaking down
during crucial times and thinking we're good when we play bad teams and win
(sometimes marginally)? I feel like a Cubs fan...
Man you messed up our perfect game on Nov. 22. But at least we no longer have
to put up with hearing how BYU is going to the National Championship, blah blah
blah! I hope the Utes can hang on to finish the job! TCU, if the Utes can beat
them, will now give the Utes the lift they need to clinch a BCS bowl for the
second time! GO UTES!!! (I no longer have to cheer for the boogers!)
I have to listen the all the REDnecks I work with.....I will always have the "at
least I brush my teeth" argument.
Look on the bright side...at least there won't be a shortage of those blue
"quest" shirts at the Deseret Industries this weekend.
Before the game started it felt like it was going to be a tough game for BYU.
TCU was really fired up and BYU had looked sluggish in its past two games. Then
the first series foreshadowed how the rest of the game would go. It just seemed
everything went right for TCU and everything went wrong for BYU. Kind of like
the UCLA game in reverse. Plus, those Thursday night games are really hard on
visiting teams. Still, if I remember right, there were four times BYU was in a
position to score, but turned the ball over three times and didn't convert on a
short fourth down try. If BYU had scored on a majority of those possessions,
the game would have been much more competitive. Before everyone
starts throwing Bronco and the team under the bus for this loss, remember BYU
had the nations longest winning streak before this loss. This is also the first
loss during Broncos tenure that BYU didnt have a chance to win at the end.
These things happen, just ask Oklahoma, LSU and Missouri after last weekend.
I will take Johnson over Hall to lead my team in a big game on day of the week.
Hall played horrible. And his favorite receiver and buddy, Lassie, was worse.
Did he forget to take off the ankle weights before the game? Hall for Heisman?
What a joke.
I have held my tongue all season, but I have often felt that BYU was totally
OVER-RATED! Their early schedule was pathetically easy. I knew
that they would struggle against good teams -- Especially on the road. They
barely beat a pathetic Washington team and looked vulnerable against Utah State.
Anytime BYU faces an athletic opposing quarterback, they are in trouble! The only teams in the conference with the speed and athletes to beat BYU
are TCU and Utah. TCU did it very easily. The real battle for MWC Supremacy is
on November 6th at Rice Eccles when the Horned Frogs will meet their match in
the Black out game!!!!
To AdmaTheUte: how can this BYU loss be "good for Utah"??
We are set up to win a 3rd consecutive Las Vegas Bowl! That has never been done
The silence from Utah County is deafening. But it is music to my ears.AAAAAAHahahahahahahahahaha
What happened to the chip on the Coug's shoulder? Where was their ferocity? I
know caffeine is a stimulant, but maybe they should eat more chocolate? Im not
sure what theyve been feeding the Horned Frogs down in Fort Worth, but make mine
Where spiraling down- the stat of the game - 23 total rushing yards. Exposed is a soft word. this is so bad, none of the major networks are giving
this a second of airtime - even thought the No 9 just fell on it's face!
I am a Ute fan first and foremost but I have to admit I am shocked at the way
the game turned out. I truly was looking forward to both the Utes & Cougs being
undefeated for the Nov. 22nd game.I have to say that in my opinion
BYU was totally out coached on both sides of the ball. They looked like for
whatever reason they had no life from the opening kickoff compared to an
energized TCU team. TCU was much quicker and exposed BYU's lack of team speed
all over the field.
Utah--if you Utes think you are going to beat TCE... Think again. You
can talk smack until your date with TCU... Then you too will fall.TCU is the best team in the conference.Go FROGS!
Anyone want to guess where those will be?Try anyplace not named Lavell
Edwards Stadium. Who knows, they may lose to UNLV at home again...
just a good butt kicking. I was due to happen the way the cougs were acting.
Bad bad game. Bad bad coaching.
bummer for BYU bummer for Utah.TCU will be conference champs
BYU and UTAH don't deserve to be anywhere near the top 10 anyway. Top 20, well,
maybe. Maybe this will even things out in the polls.
Surprised out how this game turned out. Not necessarily surprised that TCU won
the game, but I wasnt expecting TCU to dominate like they did. Utah is going to
have to play better than they have all year to this point in order to beat the
Careful, Utes. Watch the trash talkin'. We've got to face the speed and power
of TCU and go through that gauntlet ourselves. Let's not get too hasty...
I'm not going to work tomorrow. With all the talking I've done lately and the
guaranteed win I was talking about today. How can I show my face at the office?
I should never have been stupid. To think I was walking around complaining that
we were ranked so low. Telling people we were the best team in all of college
football. Oh No. My co-workers are going to punish me. I was saying Max would
win the Heisman and we should be able to play a 6and5 team in the National
Championship game again. How can I face them? Why was I so stupid? I should have
just kept my big mouth shut... Dang it.
Where oh where is the yewt-eater? Come here yewt-eater. There's a bunch of yewts
on here the need to be eaten. Is it possible that the yewt eater won't strike
again? In some sick way. That may be one of the best things to come
from all of this. I'm so glad I won't have to hear from the cougs at work how
BYU's offense could put up 45 points against the 2001 Baltimore Ravens.P.S. Cougs, Max Hall got sacked! A lot!!
As a fan for me it is BCS or bust. I could care less about the Vegas Bowl or
some other stupid bowl. I think the Cougs should schedule much better teams. I
rather go 8-4 and play real good teams than go 11-1 and play Utah St and
Northern Illinois. I mean we already have Wyoming and San Diego St in our
league. As a fan I just want to see good football and good teams. Let's be
more like Fresno and play whoever, whenever, wherever. That is much better for
a fan. No that we lost 1 game I could care less about the rest of the season
except for the U game. But if we played Ohio St next week or something then it
would be awesome. Let's play some real teams so if we don't go undefeated the
season is still fun and we can watch good football.
overated, oh wait OVERATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
YOUR NEXT utah
I felt this coming today. Told my friends that BYU was going down. This might
be the best thing for them. I hope they make it to a bowl game this year.
I'm a Ute fan, but sorry to the Cougar fans for this loss. I think a BYU win
would have been great for the MWC and the rivalry. Now, I'm truly
worried more about the Nov. 6 blackout game with TCU. We all saw what happened
in Georgia during the last game where a home team did a gimmicky blackout
game.TCU defense lived up to the hype and with the anemic Andy
Ludwig offense, I think the Utes will have their hands full. Good
luck until 11/22 Cougars. Go Utes!
Too bad Cougs. I'll keep rooting for you up to 11/22, then the gloves have to
You still have 1984.
It's easy to talk when you haven't played them yet. I must say TCU played a
great game! Wow...maybe I will be able to afford a BYU/Utah game
ticket now!! Keep your heads up Cougars! We still love you!
Utah will lose at TCU, just like BYU did.You loud mouth Utah fans
are next. The frogs will kick your behinds
Ha ha ha ha ha. Somehow BYU going undefeated for the first 6 games against the
weakest teams in the nation is not a good indicator of their true level of
righteousness. As Mr. Collie says, good things happen when you live right!!
3 things happened tonight, with BYU's humbling, if not humiliating loss to TCU.
First, BYU is certainly out of the top 10, second, BYU kissed their BCS hopes
goodbye, and third, Max Hall kissed his Heisman hopes goodbye.Clearly
BYU's offense and defense aren't as good as all the Cougs were claiming. TCU
imposed their will on the Cougs, all over the field, and all night long. One thing's for sure, Utah, will NOT take TCU for granted!
Am I the only one who notices how dirty BYU plays sometimes? On that play deep
in BYU territory that I think it was Jorgenson almost got the interception. One
of our D linemen repeatedly/intentionally shoved his forearm into Daultons face.
I dont know who he was, but I was appalled.
the good news is now utah has a shot to beat two top 20 teams late in the season
as opposed to one top 10. that's the good news.
So many things to say...the quest for perfection has come up short. I guess
Cougar Town wont be joining the City of Enoch any time soon. Perfection is so
hard to attain, and often when one gets caught up on perfection, one becomes
puffed up, and seeks after the things of man. Haven't all the cougs read the
BOM enough to recognize the pride cycle? It's fun to turn all the holier
than thou stuff around and see how moronic it is. Football is just a game, a
game for which the man upstairs doesn't dress up in stolen aggie blue and
doesn't care what the outcome of the game is. TDS just got pounded. They
weren't ready for TCU's speed, and simply got out efforted and out coached.
Some one once said "magic happens". Abrakadabra.GO UTES!!!
Correct If I am wrong I remember a lot of you BYU fans saying that this year
they are going to win the nation championship. To much cool aid and jello in
happy Utah County for you all.TCU 32 BYU 7Oklahoma 35 TCU 10Texas 45 Oklahoma 35 Oklahoma 55 Washington 14BYU 28 Washington

there is parity in the MWC.
It is good for Utah and the rest of the nation because it shuts up all Kewger
fans from talking about quests, heismans, BCS games and National Championships.
That is why it is good for everybody outside of the bubble...
You won't give up, will you?THERE IS NO (ZERO) CHANCE THAT BYU
makes BCS bowl with 1 loss.SoCalUtahFan
1. even excellent teams get beat. TCU is a great team anyway, but have a bad
night against a team having a good night and you're over.2. even a team
who has been beat can have a successful season by winning most of its games, by
going to a bowl game, and by keeping a positive attitude, ect.3. if
tonight ruined your life for a week, then you care too much about the game and
too little about the athletes becoming gentlemen and making the world a better
place.woops - lesson #4 -- if you spent your evening rejoicing in
another teams loss and their fan's disappointment, you're a bigger looser than
the team with the lower score. They can go home, learn from their loss and do
better next time, compared to the wretched, shriveling souls... well, you
Sub-prime mortgages think BYU is over-rated and exposed. BYU is
mediocre, at best, outside of Provo.TCU faster, more athletic, and
...now I have to cheer for Utah. I'm a BYU fan first but have always cheered
for the 'U' when it makes sense for the state and the conference. Actually, I
like the 'U' program and have no trouble cheering for both schools. The only
difficult part about cheering on the 'U' is that the ill-mannered UTE fans are
so dang obnoxious and immature. In fact, they're almost as annoying as some of
the holier-than-thou BYU fans.
If Utah wins out, and TCU's only conference loss is to Utah, that puts Utah in
the BCS, TCU in the Vegas, and BYU in the "who knows where, or really cares
about" bowl.Maybe the Ute fans can tell me what it is, that's where
they've been the past three years.
Hall played pretty good... for his first college game. I really hope now that
BYU fans will start thinking before they speak... please?!
standard BYwho fan. when things look down, abandon ship, abandon ship.
Hey byu fans, take comfort in the fact that vegas bowl tickets are cheaper than
bcs and it is a much lighter travel as well. If you guys didn't talk so much
bcs and have these ridiculously high/unrealistic expectations, we wouldn't be
rubbing it in so bad. It is now just being a spoiler at this point.
still be the 3rd best team in the MWC, though on second thought Air Force will
give you a run for your money for that spot. Sorry no bowl for fourth place
though you usually don't win those anyway.
Didn't the BYU defense look a little Edwards-like tonight? You, know, wait and
see (don't bother to cross the line of scrimmage; don't blitz; let the QB have
all day to pass)?I was amazed BYU didn't put pressure on their QB.
Instead, they allowed him his first TD passes of the season.Direct
snaps seem to be a surprise to BYU. Again. Hmmm.Well, I said in a
previous day's comment that I had a bad feeling about this game, and that BYU
would need to beat Utah (as undefeated then) in order to get ranked high enough
to get the automatic BCS bid. Of course, now, TCU and Boise State
both need to lose again (which happens to TCU if Utah is undefeated when BYU
plays them). Then, again, BYU could drop so far in the polls they'll
never make it back up to 12 again. No killer instinct. Now "I own
you" attitude. Top college teams have that. BYU's a long ways from it.Still, BYU can end the season with a better record than last by going
undefeated the rest of the way and just see what happens in the BCS landscape.
how typical of the classless Utah fans to show up on these message boards with
their mind numbing comments...I wouldn't expect anything different. it will make it even sweeter to end your BCS dreams, unless TCU does it first.
No fear, the Cougs will make it 3 in a row over the classless utes on Nov.
What a great addition to the conference TCU has been. Always tough.Few things on earth make me happier than BYU losing.
BYU-Boom outta here-The BCS
BYU finally played some real competition - - and the result was what all us Utes
predicted. Can you hear the "Over-rated!" chant? It takes some of
the drama out of the Nov 22nd game but that will still be Utah's battle for
their 2nd BCS bust. Coug's... we'll be rooting for you to win the
rest of your games between now and the 22nd so you stay ranked and we'll see you
in Rice-Eccles on the 22nd. Beating 2 top 25 teams (3, if OSU keeps rolling)
give us at least a prayer to get into the BCS championship game.
So we can still get to the National Championship, right?
Personally, I wouldn't rub it in, Utah fans. TCU looked VERY GOOD tonight. Utah
will have trouble with them too, if Brian Johnson and the offense doesn't
improve. If BYU's offense had that much trouble, then the U of U offense will
also, if they don't improve. The advantage to Utah is that they now have a "for
real" game to look at and learn from, and being that the U of U will have them
at home. Still, TCU looked awfully good. That athleticism and speed was very
Just wanted to give Kudos to first class organization. BYU is a great team and
school and they always show so much class. I might take some heat for this, but
small PRIVATE schools are always the underdog and there are so many big public
schools that are ready to pounce at any given moment. I will always pull for
BYU (as long as they are not playing TCU). Hats off for the comments on this
blog and for the top notch people that make up BYU. It was a great game, and
yes the Frogs did dominate. This does not diminish what BYU has accomplished
not only for themselves, but more importantly, for our conference. This is
turning into a great rivalry! I just might buy a ticket to Provo for next years
Just wonder where he is now?Just wonder how he is feeling now?Just wonder what he will be saying?SoCalUtahFan
pathetic, but saw it coming. ute fans should be concerned. you still have to
beat TCU and BYU to get to the BCS. don't think it will be easy. I am predicting
Utah over TCU and then BYU over Utah. In the end no one from the Moutain West
will be BCS eligible and Boise State will sneak in the back door once again. We
will all be left to scrap over pathetic bowl games that no one wants to see.
This loss is a result of poor coaching...period. BYU made very little
adjustments and the play calling was horrible. Furthermore, its clear that BYU
did not have a strategy to beat TCU. Did BYU think they could use the same game
plan we used against Wyoming and Utah State? TCU is much faster and
far more athletic than anything we've seeen this year. You have to adjust. If
Hall is continually getting pressure...design plays to get the ball out of his
hands quicker. If we're getting beat everytime we run the ball to the outside,
run it up the middle. If our DB's are giving up too much cushion and giving up
first downs left andd right, adjust and play tigher defense. When
you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. I lay this one at the feet of the
As disapointed as I am with this loss, in a strange kind of way I think this may
be just what the Cougars needed. They were brought back down to earth tonight
and now the pressure of going undefeated is off. Hopefully this will be a wake
up call and they will get their act together and win outAnd to you
utah fans: you have no reason to crow, we have beaten you the last two years. So
unless u find a way to beat us, I suggest you zip it. Besides you still have to
play TCU as well and by the looks of your offense, I donno how u plan on
scoring on that tcu defense.
Oh, how the song changes. Now, BYU fans are saying that TCU is "the best team
in the conference." That sure doesn't sound like the postings leading up to
this game. Now, are you sure you belong in the championship game? If you can't
keep up with TCU's speed, how would you match up with the true elite teams
(Florida, LSU, OK, Texas, etc.)?
I'm a Ute fan, but I still like to see the teams from the Beehive State do well.
We all knew TCU would be tough - we can only hope the Utes can get by them.I've said all season that BYU in the top 10 was probably a reach, but
they are still a good football team and will finish the year nationally
ranked. The Utes will do well to learn from this lesson. On any
given week, you can lose at this level. Don't let it happen, Utes!
Now we get the pleasure of listening to the same hogwash until the 22nd of Nov.
Let's imagine that BYU loses to Utah... then what will the BYU fans have to talk
BYU was terrible....
Ole Miss beat Florida. OSU beat USC etc. On any given day, this can happen. I,
for one, am not surprised. I do think the Cougs will bounce back. I
hope the Utes take note of a very fired up TCU team.
RE: BYU Jim,That is one of the greatest posts ever.
seems like the team is taking on the attitude of bronco, to relaxed almost like
they didnt care to be there. bronco is a good coach but every interview he gives
he acts emotionless. get some emotion back in those players pleasepleaseplease.
bronco do you really like your job? if so maybe act like it sometimes. players
cant get excited if your not
I was a little surprised BYU wasn't more competitive. I picked TCU to win, but
not like that. Utah will also have a short week to prepare for the Frogs. I know
they will be up for it, let's just hope they don't slip at New Mexico first.
This is not 1984...:)
People will always mock those who strive for the top and fail. OK, suppose BYU
finishes the season 11-1 or 10-2. Some narrow minded souls will suggest this is
somehow a poor showing, due to overblown expectations. BYU will end up with a
record that is reflective of how good they are, nothing more, nothing less. So
those of you on the outside, don't point your finger and gloat -- it is
inevitable that your team will end up with a record reflective of their talent
(which is likely worse than what you are hoping for). For those of you that are
still among the cougar faithful, don't give up on the team just because they
didn't achieve what YOU wanted them to. Obviously, they still have a shot for a
very successful season. Let's sit back and watch what happens now, there's
still a long way to go.
Is a very impressive team, especially at home. Other than a few long passes
given up against Oklahoma, they have been pretty darn good. With their
performance tonight, I gotta like their chances to win out. Good job Frogs.
I am a Ute fan, and was torn tonight. because both outcomes favor Utah. BYU and
TCU will remain ranked so if Utah wins both it boosts our BCS chances. However
I would have loved to see two unbeatens in Nov. That said, If Utah beats New
Mexico (that game has me nervous) They better get the offense going or TCU will
give them all they can handle and may beat us. GO UTES!!!!!!
As a Utah fan I don't care now if Utah's BCS dreams come to an end. Come to
think of it, we already went to the BCS!!! That sure was fun. Almost as fun as
watching perfection in action tonight. Thanks TCU! I personally would rather
watch BYU lose than Utah win.
THANK YOU BYU!!!!! NOW COMPLETE THE TASK AND BEAT UTAH FOR US SO WE CAN GO BCS
BOWLING AGAIN THIS YEAR!!! BYU looked terrible this game...absolutely terrible.
How typical is it of delusional BYU fans to live in the past (the title of your
post says it all). Go watch a game from BYU's glory days 20 plus years ago on
KBYU and maybe you'll feel better. As for being classless, I've seen more posts
dissing the Utes from BYU fans lately than visa versa, yet BYU fans act (a.k.a
holier than thou) like they are so classy...give me a break and snap back to
Hey, where is everyone going?Signed,The band wagonThat is the problem with scheduling down. You get a false sense
of security and then get crushed by a great team like TCU. Way to go Bronc.
To TCU FrogBYU is a class organization, hey, I graduated from there,
but still am a Utah fan. Small it is not. BYU's enrollment is atleast 30K (15
yrs ago) and is probablly closer to 35-40.Nice win Frogs, I had you
beating BYU in my preseason pick. I look forward to seeing you in
RES in a few weeks, should be a great game.
That was done with TCU's leading rusher not even playing. Utah will kill TCU in
I guess no BCS title game for BYU this year, right? Bwwwahahahaha!!!!!!
are fully invested? Are they a Band of Brothers? I guess they forgot that they
were on a quest for perfection. Oh well - Spirit, Honor, Tradition.Even though BYU looked TERRIBLE they still played the game with integrity.
Whatever that means. They need to be accountable to one another. Next week they
will play with an exceedingly high level of intensity.
the sky is falling the sky is falling!!!!!!! nope only in provo cause the utes
are still 7-0 baby!!!! way to not keep your end of the deal cougars
Now I know where to find every Ute fan in america...right here on a article
about BYU losing. Bcause you sure can't find them in their stadium.
And I was so looking forward to an undefeated Ute team and an undefeated Cougar
squad playing for a BCS bid. Let's hope that the Utes can get it done or the
conference will lose a big BCS pay day. Can we get Guy Gibbs to ref the holy
war again? He will make sure that the right team wins.
BYU needs to drop at least to #20, maybe keep them in the top 25. Even though
TCU is a very good, I have to look at BYU's overall performance these past few
weeks and I'm not impressed.
For all you myopic Ute fans that think this is a "good" thing-just a gentle
reminder: you ain't played TCU yet and you ain't played BYU yet.Unlike last year, when the Cougars got increasing better as the season
progressed, they are in a doldrums. It would have been much better
for UoU had BYU won. |But it takes a reasonably thinking person to
and hopefully Utah is the best (having both of those games at home does them the
advantage). I still think the game on Nov 22 will be a close one but this year
I think it is going to be Utah that wins a close one. But good luck to BYU
until that day.
No realistic scenario puts the Cougs in the Las Vegas Bowl. If TCU wins out,
they're in LV. If Utah wins out they're in BCS and TCU is in LV. If BYU wins
out, LV picks a 1-conference loss TCU over BYU.Only chance for LV is
if somehow TCU makes a BCS bowl with one loss (unlikely) or if both TCU and Utah
lose two more games (unlikely).BYU will go bowling elsewhere... but
at least have a chance to win.
Hey Cougar fans just wanted to remind you to continue to wear your "Question for
Perfection" T-Shirts. I'll be lookin for ya when I'm roamin around Provo.
Remember...its not about a quest for a perfect season, it's about the quest to
be a perfect person ;) At Utah we have quest not to put stupid team slogans on
our shirts, and our quest lives on!
As long as a team has a remotely fast defense and a passing game the cougars
cannot win. How they have won so many games in a row with this small amount of
athletism is incredible! Looks like another quest to the vegas bowl cougars..
BYU is too slow, they need to stack up on speed, not on meat! When will them
little kittys learn?
Just be glad you don't play us this year Cougar Fans, it would be worse than the
last time we played. WAC>>>>>>MWC
BYU got worked. There is no way around it. TCU was quicker and looked like they
wanted it much more. If there was one team I wanted to lose to it was TCU. I
don't want a lose to Utah at all. I am really glad we don't have the really bad
loses too, like when Utah lost to UNLV last year. This lose can just further the
argument that the MWC is tough. As long as someone beats TCU in the MWC and BYU
beats the Cougs it will still be a good year. I never thought BYU
was going to win the National Championship. So this lose is a best case scenario
in my opinion. I think BYU will barely stay in the top 25 also. They deserve to.
Just like when Wisconsin lost to horrible Michigan. Crazy things happen.
The big game is now nov. 6, black out game for the MWC Championship! I'm so
stoked, to the BYU fans saying Utah will loss to TCU? They may but they won't
get blown out and embarass the conference, wayta pull a Hawaii and make all the
rest of us look mediocre when we aren't, worry about the game at hand instead of
BCS games and maybe you can reach the stature of our 04 team that kept things in
prespective and won out.
of you people on here, have never put a football jersey on! You Ute fans tick me
off. You should have been wanting BYU to win. Now the game in Salt Lake doesnt
mean half as much. Imagine what a top 10 BYU, and top 10 Utah game would have
been like? You should stop and think what that would have done for both
programs. I love Utah and BYU, because I love this great State. Your dumb for
wanting a freakin Texas team to beat one of us! They both deserve to be top 25,
cuz they are both THAT GOOD! Nothing against TCU. That was incredible! I just
ask fans to stop and think for a min. Support each other.................then we
meet! Then its blood! Then its bragging rights! Then its history! I hope the
cougars stay ranked, so the Utah-BYU game will be amazing. Start a
new streak Cougs! Utes, keep rollin fellas!
Quit posting those Quest for Perfection t-shirts. Nobody outside of Provo
wanted them before the TCU game, nobody anywhere wants them after TCU game.
It would be a very rare occasion for any MWC team to actually deserve to be in
the top ten. From the looks of how the Utes play they do not deserve to be in
there either. They will blow a game. Count on it. Either New Mexico or TCU
No, not the BCS, the bullseye. It's big, it's heavy, and it's on your back now.
Good luck getting your part-time offense through the MWC conference without a
loss. Looks like things are shaping up for BSU.
Could the DB's play any further back? I mean there were plays where they had to
pan the camera to find the Cougar DB who was in coverage. All TCU had to do all
night was throw 5-10 yard outs all night because Cougar DB's were playing 15
yards off the ball. At some point you have to make an adjustment and get up and
take those routes away. The other things they did all night was direct snap to
85. He never passed it once but all the DB's dropped back in coverage. No
adjustment until he had torched them over and over and the game was far out of
reach. The coaches were worse than the players IMO tonight.
if BYU played speedy teams such as FLorida or USC in a BCS game.I mean if TCU
was too much speed for the cougars. How emberassing it would of been. It's a
good thing they won't have that chance now. Why does BYU recruit in state
talent???? not just lineman but skill players too. -
Ute fans sure talk a lot of smack considering that BYU was exposed for having
played a fairly similar schedule to Utah (you know, such as a win over a I-AA
team, beating Utah State and beating a terrible BCS program [how did
Michigan lose to Toledo at home? Man that win looks good].Keep
in mind guys, you still have to play at New Mexico (which is a big trap game),
and then you have TCU and BYU.If you guys win all those games, you
deserve to go to a BCS bowl. But don't talk smack yet. You still have a long way
I can't wait for the utah TCU game. I wish I lived in Utah so I could go to that
pathetic stadium to watch and cheer for TCU. The utes think they're great. Well,
wait till the HORNED FROGS roll into town. The utes are worse then BYU and next
on the list to fall at the hands of TCU.
"WAC>>>>>>MWC"If that's true, then why the heck does your president
want in the MWC so bad that he's come out and said it on the record three
times?Think before you post.
Boise State fans now need to get a life and realize they are just like BYU
fans...they have the worst schedules in college football, and play up like they
are the greatest team in college football...If Utah or BYU or TCU,
or even half the other teams in the MWC were in the WAC, they would go
undefeated every year...because there is no competition in that conference...While BSU-Oklahoma was a great game, Statue of Liberty plays, Hook and
Laterals, and halfback passes will only get you so far...The stars were aligned
on that one night where all of those plays worked...but you cant tell me BSU
would hang with any BCS team again...I just read an interesting
stat...vs Oregon, that was BSU's first win against a BCS team on the road...they
are now 3-11 vs the PAC-10 all-time...Oregon had no quarterback...thats real
impressive for the team that has had the best record in college football since
the year 2000...Can we learn anything from that? Maybe that BSU
NEVER PLAYS ANYBODY!!!go ahead and bring up the fact that they beat
us 3 years ago with that great (sarcastic) Utah team we had...
I guess that the only real BCS buster in the MWC is Utah....ummmmm....its not
that easy BYU is it???....mmmmmmmmm...shouldn't have been talking about playing
in the BCS Championship Bowl
Game....mmmmmmmm....WOW....why.....why........why???? shucks....maybe you guys
weren't that good after all...oh and about our part time offense....hey when you
need them the at least come through...I guess there is always next
don't you love how all the byu fans just became tcu fans
It's funny, but this is the kind of fan I am. I love BYU. It was hard to lose
tonight, especially since we didn't play well. We lost to a better team,
period. Having said that, since I live here in Utah, and if Utah were to make
it in the running at any time and play in a BCS bowl game...I would cheer for
them. In all these comments, and some are pretty nasty, I only saw one Ute fan
who said he was sorry...and had hoped we could have won. Healthy competition is
good...but when competition generates some of the venom I've read here I become
WOW, what a great team???? There are few things that make me happier in life
than watching TCU TORCH the COUGIES tonight! Honestly though, DID THIS LOSS
REALLY SURPRISE ANYONE?????????? BYU has played against POOR TEAMS, then
STRUGGLED TO WIN ON THE ROAD AGAINST THOSE TEAMS!!!! Cougies, NO BCS
FOR YOU THIS CHRISTMAS! WATCH YOU DROP LIKE A ROCK IN THE POLES!!!!!!!!!!!I CANT WAIT FOR THE GAME AT RICE ECCLES!
I'll be the first to admit that BYU got their trash handed to them...and not
because of faulty officiating or anything else. TCU played great tonight. They
dominated the game in every aspect. My hat goes off to them.I
honestly think TCU is very UNDER-rated. It doesn't make any sense to me why they
dropped out of the top 25 after losing to #1 Oklahoma, but tonight they proved
that they are stiff competition and a solid team. My hat goes off to them.I hope the Utes bask in the glory of BYU losing. Go ahead, take your
shots and jabs. Just know that you're the one wearing the target now. Don't be
surprised when you get knocked off your pedestal.
GoodGuyGary, Las Vegas called and they want to know if you want the same room
you stayed in last year..................
That's because he really knows that the WAC is pathetic. The MWC's worst team
beat the WAC's worst team by 28 points. Boise State would fall into the middle
of the MWC. The rest of the WAC teams would fall in at the bottom. The MWC owns
It is funny to hear all the Ute fans. The only thing you are concerned about is
the Cougars lost. The last time I checked the schedule both teams have 5
regular season games to play and the last one is between the Utes and the
Cougars. As a Cougar fan I will say we got dominated, but lets wait until after
November 6th and then again after the 22nd to see who is the better team!!!!Its easy to kick someone when there down, but lets just wait and see
what happens in the next few weeks and then we'll see who is laughing. Also, I have one question for all the Ute fans...do you really love the Utes
or do you just love the Utes because you hate the Cougars?? It sounds like from
the comments that it is the later; how pathetic you Cougar haters, I mean Ute
fans are!! ha ha... See you on the 22nd with ONE loss (if not TWO).
Back off my fellow Utes. The pressure is now on us. It is really bad karma to
talk so much trash with so many games to go. There but for the grace of God . .
. I hope the team continues to keep their heads down and their mouths shut.
Time to get to work Utes.
We will smoke the Utes and Cougars again when we meet up in the coming years.
When is the last time a team from Utah beat us?
this is the reason i am a utah fan...we don't care about the past we are all
about the future, and it looks like the bcs isn't in yours... and the fact that
are people still talking about 1984 is just annoying, we don't care!!!!!!!!!!!!
get some utes!!!
The problem with telling other "Ute fans" to back off is that they aren't really
"Ute fans." They are just BYU haters. Take "Call me crazy" at 10:47 for example.
He would say that as a Ute fan? Pathetic!!! How many others are just fair
weather fans anyway?
Wow. Coug fans keep pointing out to Ute fans to wait we still have to play TCU,
yeah and we still have a chance to be undefeated, do you?
I suppose all you good-natured cougs will be routing for Utah now as there
selection in the BCS would be "good for the conference?" As for those of you
who have a problem with Utes enjoying the fall of king collie and quest for
perfection -- get over it. If you want to talk the talk then you better walk
the walk. BYU winning tonight wouldn't have done a thing for Utah. Either way,
our best case was a non-championship BCS -- just like BYU's. Whether BYU went
11-1 or 7-5, if Utah wins out it goes to BCS - sorry Boise Tech.
To BYU fans, I'm sorry for your loss. To my Ute brothers who say that you would
rather see the Cougars lose than the Utes win, I'm ashamed to be associated with
you. A true fan of the game revels more in his teams success and not in the
failure of his foes. Cougs, not all Ute fans are created equal. There are
bright ones among us.GO UTES!!Watch that film and be
ready, TCU looked like World Beaters tonight.
Boise -- Hawaii showed the world what the WAC is all about. Go Buffs!!
you can postulate all you want that utah will have a loss or to...the only
things that are for sure? You'll have a loss and you're not goin to a BCS game,
at least we still have a chance, right now BYU will be beyond lucky to go to the
Vegas bowl. What comes around goes around, you talked a ton of smack BYU fans,
now instead of tryin to turn it on us just eat it and try to at least show up to
the reast of your games. And to answer your other question I'm a utah fan for
utah, I really don't hate the cougar football team on the field, its when they
and their fans open up their arrogant mouths off the field like the world owes
them something, so in summary I don't hate cougar football, I hate you and all
the other fans that act like that, to the BYU fans with some humility on here,
I'm sorry your team lost and that the other fans of your team can't take what
they dish out.
I really need to see a shrink. I have come to the point in my "sports" life
that the best day in football is when BYU gets beat. It is great when the Utes
win, like an 8 game winning streak. But the loss to TCU has made my
season.......My shrink asked me, what will life be like when UTAH destroys
BYU, 11/22????? I didn't know he was a Ute fan too. He didn't even charge me
for the sessionGo Utes
Yeah right! How many times does the Urban Meyer season pop up on these boards.
Utah lives further in the past than BYU. When will both schools realize that
they will never amount to anything more than conference champions. Until they
can be part of a real conference they will never stand the chance of being true
champions. I realize this is not necessarily their fault but big talk goes
nowhere unless your money is where your mouth is. Both teams would be blown away
by half the teams in the SEC and 2/3 of the teams in the Big 12. While I'm
still on a soapbox, the ACC and Big East such and are way overrated and the Big
10 and Pac 10 flat out stink this year.
Please be patient with Utah fans who come here to taunt and gloat. Time has not
erased the trauma of being jilted by Urban Meyer. They got to go to the prom
and then their date dumped them. Things just haven't been the same since.
when was the last time you played UofU?????
Hah! Neither do you. Do you remember which team you are cheering for? If you
forget, go back and look at the team record from 2005 on. Urban is gone my
friend and so is any Utah dream season.
A BYU hater does not make a True Ute Fan make. Guys, there's still a game on
Nov 22 and what if BYU spoils our BCS hopes--and that's if we get past TCU who
looked scary good tonight. All this trash talking is foolishness. The only
thing this game proved is that there won't be an undefeated showdown which would
have been absolutely phenomenal. Oh well. But back down fellas, there's some
tough games ahead.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!oh yeah, and... ha
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha..no BCS bowl, no MWC championship,
no Vegas Bowl and guaranteed loss at Rice Eccles!! Ha Ha Ha Ha
Like I've said since the 70's "ANYBODY BUT BYU"!!!
7 sacks! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7
not 0 there was 7! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Boise St. owning Utah?! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Nice try all
gain-sayers and nay-sayers from BYU trying to make themselves feel better.
Notice that not one game has mentioned the upcoming game on Nov. 22... That's
because BYU knows for a fact that they will lose!!!
Thanks Re: TrueUte, but I don't need any help from you. Amazing that even after
a devastaing loss, you cougs still have the energy to play the role of the moral
authority. While I stand by my earlier statement, I don't think Ute fans are
unique for despising their rival. It seems to be a very big part of sports in
my experience. News flash - Texas A&M fans love their Aggies and hate the tea
sips from Texas (Florida State/Miami, Alamabam/Auburn, etc. etc.). How are you
different? You're not a BYU fan, you're just a BYU-hater-hater.
My hope at the season's onset: Unprecedented national attention with undefeated
BYU facing undefeated Utah on 11/22 in the biggest game ever between two non-BCS
conference teams (with the winner obviously rewarded with a BCS bowl bid). My current opinion: Neither Utah nor BYU merit their lofty rankings --
BYU obviously will drop precipitously after this game. Utah will fall to TCU.
The BYU-Utah game at best will be a battle for second place in the MWC although
both Utah and BYU could lose additional conference games. No MWC team in a BCS
bowl this year.
You had a good run, it's sad it had to end tonight. Now it's time to Choose the
Red for the Nov 6 and 22 games.Go Utes!
I don't revel in the BYU loss, I wish they would have won, however since our
team didn't play today and BYU's did I get the opportunity to call out some
people on here have been running their mouths all year long, I along with most
ute fans make no assumptions about where the utes season will go, I like our
chances but I see stumbling blocks, but just like in 04 we'll take it one game
at a time continuing with CSU on saturday, RES is gonna be rockin as the utes
look to extend their winning ways and hopfully do it without any injuries or
mass turnovers and penalties. GO UTES!
Tough loss for both BYU and Utah fans. BYU staying highly ranked was Utah's
ONLY hope to get to a NC game if they ran the table. Now all they have to hope
for is another BCS bowl against a Big Least team.
The reason Ute fans always want BYU to lose is because they're fans. How often
do you think Texas roots for OK? Or Florida roots for LSU? You always root
against a so called rival. Unless you live in Utah County. My understand is
that the Utes went to a BCS game and won. Until the Y does that then you should
BYU was taken behind the woodshed tonight and given a thrashing to remember. I
could see it coming because of the haughtiness they were brewing as a team. It
never pays to get too full of oneself because "pride comes before the fall".
BYU was playing against another religious institution and it just goes to show
that God doesn't have any favorites in the mix. He loves us all and lets the
best team win.
Honestly, Boise State is right there. TCU and BYU are not going to get there and
Utah still has to beat both. The MWC is staring at 3 straight WAC BCS bowl
bids.By the way, just how SLOW is the Y?!? The MWC really doesn't
seem that good considering how TCU fared against OU (not as good as Texas, btw)
and turned around a stomped the overrated and over-hyped Cougars.
Perfection--defection. Perfection is an infection. Get over it and realize
you're human. Humans aren't perfect. BYU taught us all a lesson tonight.
I couldn't see the game so I watched baseball instead, but then I remembered the
game and checked the score. And I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
Poor Cougs. Why couldn't you win! And why did you have to lose so badly and in
such a humiliating fashion? :(
P.U. P.U. P.U.Pathetic underachievement.
all right all right coug fans we got beat and we got beat bad and everyone is on
us for our quest for Perfection but listen everyone and I mean everyone in the
MWC and Yes all the all whacker conference plays BYU like its their own
Superbowl. and every year people play INSANE against BYU. YEWTE fans you're the
worst outta all of them. well I should rephrase that about half of you are just
BYU haters and obnoxious and drunk the other half are respectable fans that I
can actually stand
Hey Utes, have fun with them.
....how it feels to be a Ute. I see why you guys have issues.
You can't mix the two,get used to it coug fans..you guys will always loose to
these type teams like tcu & utah, teams with more athletic talent...why?..its
the type of student athlete you recruit, without getting into a big "holy
religon" type thing...it is what it is!..you guyz recruit good wholesome church
boyz, that's great! There`s nothing wrong with that...but if you want to win and
compete in the world of big time college football...you need to reconsider your
standards...so if you`re gona go to church go to church..and leave football to
the boys from the U of U....You can't serve two masters! The truth
boise state?? hahaha that'd be a bigger joke than the hawaii georgia game. get
real the wacs not goin anywhere anytime soon. utes have all the breaks this
year. i think its hilarious ute fans are still thinkin bcs. at least cougars had
a streak to lose. look for the utes to end up with 2 losses. BYU and TCU, game
Come on peeps... Let the cougs have their moment of rebuilding. I think that's
enough from the Utes. Once you have the championship then you can talk. Cougs,
that was a rough one... it just shows ya you gotta talk the talk and walk the
walk. Now let's leave the cougs alone.
BYU fans need to be content with a team that is bowl eligible each year with
some conference championships. The fact is BYU has never been able to recruit
REAL speed. They never will be able to recruit the athletes that TCU and Utah
are able to get year in and year out. Most athletes don't want to live by the
strict honor code. BYU does not need to apologize for that, but the truth is we
can look forward to a good team each year, but not a dominant team like we hoped
for this year.
As a BYU fan, I thought about committing suicide Thursday after the game. But
then I got to thinking, I still have my job, my family, my dog and my life.
Every team will lose sooner or later! Even the mighty Utes will fall hard at
some point! I hope when that day comes, I will not act like some of you on here
who have no other reason to live other than to see their hated rival lose a
game. What goes around comes around, it will come your way soon enough. When it
does, I hope you can handle it. I am doing really well right now because the
loss didn't change a thing about my life.
Very disappointed! That was BYU's worst game this season. They got worst every
week since their whipping of UCLA. I would not be surprised if BYU lose more
this season. Their goal will now have to settle for second or third place, or
even worse, in the conference. The head coach is not national champion coach
You can't compare the rivalry here with the rivalry at BCS schools. The MWC
needs all of the credibility they can get. It makes no sense to cheer for BYU or
Utah to have terrible seasons. All that means is that BOTH teams will be out of
the national media. The reason why there has been so much press is because BOTH
teams have been very good. If you look at a team like Tulsa, they are getting no
love because they have no competition at all, Boise State has nothing to brag
about except beating a crippled, QB-less Oregon team. BYU looked terrible
tonight, but to say that anything is for sure (BYU not getting to any bowl game,
Utah running the table, TCU winning the MWC) is all speculation, I expect the
Utes to beat TCU, but I DON'T expect them to beat New Mexico. That will be the
game to watch.
TCU spanked the cougars tonight. Hall was not at his best and many of his
passes were forced, hurried and not on target. I was surprised more were not
intercepted. Look out Utah, TCU is coming to RES on 11/6 to win.
I was hoping for a BYU/UTAH matchup 11/22 of the undefeated, but it
may be a matchup of the one loss teams. Go Cougars and Go Utah.
Look, I respect BYU for having a quality football program. I also respect their
players and coaches, as well as their university. It's their fans I can't
stomach, simply because they puff themselves up to pretend they have a program
which they just don't have! Are they good? Yes! Are they outstanding? No!
Are they the best team in the state of Utah? We'll wait and find out, but in
any case they definitely are not a top 10 team.
Great win tonight. Loved your effort. Your team sat home and watched the game to
perfection. To Boise:You are so right, I now want to move
to Boise, to live in Boise, to smell Boise, to smell like Boise. I want to
become Boise, and be all that Boise is. I want bright blue grass for a lawn, I
want Boise bumper stickers, drink Boise water, postmarks from boise on my mail,
I want to get caught speeding in Boise, get my clothes in Boise, get my haircut
in Boise, catch colds in Boise, find a wife in boise, raise my kids in Boise,
buy a dog in Boise, walk the strees of Boise, plant a garden in Boise, retire in
Boise, get hair plants in Boise, wear slacks in Boise, die and be burried under
smurf turf in Boise.I just want to be Boise if I can so I can be a
BSU fan just like you.Go BSU, Go Utes, you both earned the win
It was a great run, that win streak. Makes me even appreciate more the 1984
NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. At least coug fans know what it is like to have a
perfect season and be champs. All due respect to the Utes in 2004, who
unfortunately picked the wrong year to be perfect. BYU overachieves with their
overall talent level. They always got the big guys but the fast guys they are
lacking as was evident in the game. I think preparation is often overated,
sometimes the superior speed and overall talent wins out.
I admit, Boise State most likely will get to play in a BCS bowl game. However,
if Utah wins out, they are far more deserving simply because they have a tougher
schedule. And honestly their tough schedule is really in the MWC. The MWC this
year is better than the PAC-10, and most definitely better than the WAC. I feel
Boise State would do just fine in a bowl game however, but they really don't
play anyone. Still they are good. Go Utes!
1) BYU will win out until Utah. They'll be 10-1 going into Utah.2)
TCU played well tonight, but is not the same team on the road. Utah will beat
them on 11/6 going away. TCU will be 10-2 to end the season. They will also drop
behind the defending back to back MWC champs with the loss with.3)
Boise State will not win out. They will srop behind BYU with a late season loss
to a WAC team.4) That leaves the Utes @ 11-0 going into BYU week
(with upsets)they'll be ranked between 5-8th in the polls.5)A
nationally respected 10-1 BYU will be ranked between 12-16 in the polls.6) BYU will beat UTAH in their own stadium (again) Utah will also drop
behind the defending back to back MWC champs with the loss. BYU moves back into
the BCS top 12 for good.
Morning Utah fans. I would guess that only about 10% of the posts are from BYU
fans. Way to own the boards. When stories come out, both U of U and
BYU, the posts are usually 4-1 advantage BYU stories.Just goes to
show how the BYU program is Iconic in this area for college football. Sure, all
teams lose, but BYU's loss is heard all over the Nation.Ute fans,
that great feeling you have tonight, it's that BYU is in your heart, your soul,
it runs your blood and feeds your brain. You can't help it, it's what great
programs do. They own you, you are obsessed with all that is BYU.If
Utah loses Saturday to CSU, 50 post max, no one cares. Everyone cares about BYU
and their football program. ESPN analysts have BYU football burned into their
brains.Face it guys, Fans for BYU and Utah alike (and now BSU), we
all live for BYU football. The obsession with BYU, it's a beautiful
byu = utah - talent
to:"Anonymous | 11:53 p.m. Oct. 16, 2008 Boise -- Hawaii showed the world
what the WAC is all about."Boise is in Hawaii. I apologize, I
thought it was in that forsaken wasteland Idaho.Maybe now I'll find
a reason to visit.
Reputation...Luckily Teams like USC, Oklahoma and BYU will not drop too
far out of the polls. BYU will have to wait till 2009 for the National
Championship. But they'll still get into the BCS because of their national
reputation. Utah and BYU will both win out through 11/22.Boise will
lose, Ball State will not have the computers or National Reputation. BYU
will beat Utah for the 3rd year in a row. Utah will drop out of the BCS picture
and BYU leapfrogs them to get into the top 12. Without the National
reputation though it would be impossible to get back in the BCS.
Just Like USC, Due to their national reputation, BYU just got a mulligan
tonight, a luxury TCU and Utah do not have.. BYU is not out of the BCS. With 5
games left to still move up in the polls.BYU will end up between
22-25 in the polls.1) BYU will win out until Utah. They'll be 10-1
2) TCU played well tonight, but is not the same team on the road.
Utah will beat them on 11/6 going away. TCU will be 10-2 to end the season. They
will also drop behind the defending back to back MWC champs with the loss
with.3) Boise State will not win out.4) That leaves the
Utes @ 11-0 going into BYU week (with upsets)they'll be ranked between 5-8th in
the polls.5)A nationally respected 10-1 BYU will be ranked between
12-16 in the polls.6) BYU will beat UTAH in their own stadium
(again) Utah will also drop behind the defending back to back MWC champs with
the loss with. BYU moves back into the BCS top 12 for good.
BYU has just become a dangerous team, with nothing to loose. Utah is now the
league's BCS flag-bearer, and has all the pressure weighing in upon them, and
they are going to feel it. All the BCS hopes now reside upon their shoulders, as
they have to play the number #1 rated defense in the nation. We will learn a lot
about the Utes next Saturday. If they manage to beat the horned frogs, they'll
still have to face the Cougs in November. BYU's quest for perfection has ended,
and the Utes quest has just begun.
Do you honestly think that if the BCS system were in place in 1984 that BYU
would have been playing for a national championship? They didn't beat any teams
that ended up in the final top 25 teams and won by a touchdown to 6-5 Michigan
in the bowl game. Utah at least had a convincing bowl win.
Uh We have NEVER lost to a team in your conference. That's 15-0! And we last
played Utah 23 months ago at your place where we spanked you and chanted in your
own stadium while you drove home. (don't gloat BYU, we did the same thing at
your place!) Shoot, we even beat Utah when we were 1-aa. And you want to put
our BCS victory on trick plays?! We manhandled Oklahoma!...until they get a
fumble, a freak turnover on a punt and three chances at a 2 point
conversion...and like champions, we came back and won. It is stupid for any non
bcs team to make the sos argument...until all college teams are on an nfl-type
revolving schedule of home and aways...it is stupid and doesn't further any of
us in non bcs confs. don't be a typical utah crab, pulling others down to feel
better about yourself...try to see the big pic! I hope BYU isn't as bad as they
looked, if they are..it doesn't bode well for utah either, they have the same
schedule and TCUs comin. Now if we can only beat Fresno and UNR. I'll take a pic
in Miami for ya;-)
I am not sure it is based off of reputation alone. Granted if you look at the
last 25 years of College football USC, Oklahoma and BYU have won their share of
National Championships. But as a Notre Dame fan, I think our school should be
thrown in the mix with other National Champions over the last 25 years. Our
reputation has helped us just like it does for the Cougars, Sooner and Trojans.
It is unfair that a team like Utah (who had a nice team in 2004 but even then
they wern't USC or Auburn and they couldn't even crack the top 4) doesn't get
the same national respect as a BYU. I am excited to see Utah play Notre Dame in
2010. I am sure the Utes will do a great job as they continue to try and build
their program to the level of those already mentioned.
Even if your bizarre scenario plays out (which it won't. The BCS will never put
a 1 loss non-bcs team into one of their bowls. Especially with how the big 12
and SEC are playing) and BYU goes to a BCS bowl, do you really want them to?If that's what happened to them against TCU, what happens against a
Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Penn St. etc.So here's the
pointless hypothetical question of the day:Would you rather go to a
BCS game and get blown out like Hawaii? Or go to Vegas and dominate another
year? ...this won't happen. But just wondering. Does anyone think
that BYU can really compete with the best at this point? One word:
LOL - Utah had a "nice" team in 2004? I am not sure if I would take that as a
compliment Ute Fan.
Harline's still open!4th and 18!Live right on and off the field!BCS BOWLS: Utah 1 BYU 0 THAT IS STILL ZERO!!!!!!ZERO!!You don't win with
any class. You walk around thumping your chest, wearing your slogans. Enjoy this
loss. Remember how it hurts!!! Maybe next time you get on your high horses and
come out with a T-Shirt it should say; "Remember TCU"Do you realize how
bad this was??If Utah and BYU met in November, undefeated, in the top ten,
the college football world would all be tuned in for this game. The Mountain
West would get it's deserved coverage and both Utah & BYU would benefit big time
Just because BYU lost tonight doesnt mean that magically the mediore UofU
Football program is amazing and has a rich football history that comprises more
then 2 years, what is with all you wannabes? Take your medical books and go
I NEVER cheer for BYU even when they play out-of-state games! Way to go TCU! GO
Shame to see BYU lose this way.Don't worry. I'm sure Utah will pick
up a loss or two before the end of November.
Sweet Justice! BY-Who?Okay so Utah does have a lot of tough teams left to
play. And sure we haven't beat our fair share of tough opponents either. But we
haven't hyped our team up as the best team in the country, especially since
"that team down south" hasn't beat anybody with a winning record. Maybe they
should actually beat somebody before they start making a claim for the National
Championship. I can't wait til Utah absolute kills them!!!
As a Ute Fan, it's hard to cheer to BYU. I am pretty upset with the way TCU
manhandled the Cougars. Either the Cougars weren't mentally prepared or TCU was
a far superior team. I am in Nashville and was embarassed to watch this game.
My co-workers always make fun of MWC football and especially the two teams in
Utah. Now I have no come backs for my pals here in SEC country. Notice that the comment board has over 250 comments. The reason is due to the
prideful cougars posting every day. The question for perfection is now a quest
for respect at this point. Next year?
I did not attend either BYU or Utah so this entire hostility issue has been lost
on me. I would just say that BYU really has only one goal now and that is to
beat Utah. They will see that as salvaging their season. If Utah comes into
that game undefeated it will be all the more motivating and the pressure will be
squarely on the Utes. The Cougars were not prepared for this game and
they did not look that good against New Mexico either.
Reading through the comments. I am not sure why anyone would want to cheer to be
at the top of a MWC or WAC conferences. What does conference champs mean
for these conferences? The only way to get better is to play tougher
teams!!Every week the SEC, BIG-10, BIG-12, PAC-10 has games that have a
magnitued of the game tonight of TCU and BYU. TCU played Oaklahoma losted
and learned. BYU played Who to learn where they stand TULSA last year? This sneaking in the back door to get into a BCS game is terrible. I
would rather play a hard game against schools like Oklahoma than a division
I-AA.I like the USC coach statement that he will play anyone anywhere on
any field, because he knows that he has the players to play anyone and compete.
Yes you might lose, but at least you know what you need to do to get
better.(speed and toughness)ENJOY BEING CONFERENCE CHAMPS!!!
Nice Game BYWHO
Was this a case of the road woes? BYU really hasn't played that well on the road
again this year.Certainly TCU was faster and better prepared, but
the road had a lot to do with the score.BYU needs to play its more
athletic players at safety and corner too. Why is it that other teams surprise
us but we don't surpise them with a modification to our status quo?
At least we know where we stand. The cougs haven't learned a thing in the last
three weeks. Just listening to the pregame hype was very telling. TCU has been
hungry to play the cougs since January. BYU started thinking about this game on
saturday night. BYU looked no different than they have during the last two games
but they played a far superior team. Where is the progress, guys? Congrats to
TCU. Hope they win the conference.
Well zoobies, It's always better to be a BCS doormat for us than trying to
contend with us. Because when national implications are on the line the utes
For of these comes the thrill of victory!Onward Cougars, rise and
shout. We will yet win again.Meanwhile, I will be cheering for each
and every opponent of Utah. Why do we depise them so?
I very unnerving win as a Utah fan. There is nothing that gives me happiness in
this BYU loss. The comeback I expected in the 2nd half just was not in the
stars - Maybe the Red Sox stole all the luck available. Utah better
watch out. The Utes have a first rate home crowd, but they better be ready for
UNM, and should not overlook CSU tomorrow. For my part I will not
gloat over the BYUs lost BSC hopes until the 23d - assuming.....
What was with the mind-numbing running game that the cougs kept trying to set up
even while they were down 17-0 in the 1st half? Granted, Hall had thrown a
couple of interceptions by that point, but three and out ruins your drive just
as quickly. At least do the thing that has been working the majority of plays
and air it out. BYU was so focused on getting its run game going against a
steller run defense that they lost track of the score.
It was obvious Hall and others were distracted by their own press. The Utah
State game should have been a reality check. Miles to go, folks.
BYU IS NOT, WAS NEVER, A TOP 10 team. Heck, BYU isn't even a top 20 team. Much
too soft defensively to be considered for either status. Going forward, Bronco
has to hit the recruiting trail over in Tonga and bring back some physical
defensive players for next year. This year I could easily see BYU losing 2-3
more games and not going to ANY bowl game. BYU is ..in a word... "SOFT".
Mendenhall is becoming more like Edwards. No emotion from the coach = no
emotion from the team. The only thing worse than the score was to see the
coaches and players acting like it winning didn't really matter. I'm sure that
BYU and Mendenhall will follow the Edwards model. Every year put a good team on
the field. Win most of your games. Lose the important ones. Go to a bowl
game, and lose.
Tough loss cougs. I guess when a team starts preparing for you in January it's
going to be a tough game. Heads up! Seasons not over. One thing that
has been exposed is the true nature of ute fans. The way TCU played it looks
like Nov. 22 will be for second place. Now that would be funny to see Utah take
The Utes better step up the remainder of the season if they want to crack the
BCS again or get the MWC title. Looks like everyone has ignored TCU and now BYU
is a wounded animal. Don't be surprised if Boise State is the BCS buster again
Three weeks in a row the cougs are out coached and under prepared. Rush 2 and
play a sloppy zone? are you kidding me ? this is not high school.
Keep piling on ute fans. It shows what you are really like. But keep it coming
because no matter what we Coug fans LOVE OUR TEAM! Your reactions show which
team is really the best team in the state. Thanks for your support. Go Cougs!
I am a BYU fan, and disappointed in their loss. But, it is not surprising.
They started out very strong against UCLA and Wyoming. But, since Utah State
they have struggled. Though they had a nice win at Utah State, their play
started getting sloppy, especially in the fourth Quarter. Then, a one point win
against unranked New Mexico in Provo. I was concerned they may be a bit too
sloppy for TCU, especially considering the stakes for both teams. Cougar fans,
let's hope they regain their edge before the Utah game. This could make the
race for the MWC championship interesting.
BYU had it weakness against the run exploited by TCU. Utah will do the same
thing to BYU. The best BYU can hope for is a third place finish. As far as
everyone making excuses for them, don't. They were beaten on all fronts in the
game. TCU was the superior team.
I don't like BYU, but let's be classy about this. BYU's coaches, players and
fans did need a dose of humility - and they are taking it very well. They still
have a top 25 team and the sun will keep rising. Still looking forward to Nov
The beginning of this board there are a number of BYU fans truly willing to
stand up tall and partake of a piece of humble pie. Here at the bottom of the
board we have BYU fans blasting Utah again. What short memories you people
have.To refresh your memory, it was the 2004 Utes who handed BYU $1
Million dollars after their BCS game. BYU's greedy outstretched hand was more
than willing to take it to pay off a coach who's offense has since won a
national championship. The University of Utah AND BYU both thank Urban Myer and
his coaching staff for the gift.Less than a year latter, BYU was
rocked when one of their own (Kyle Wittingham) said no thank you to their head
coach offer. Wittingham rebuilt Utah's program and currently (at least for now)
holds the nation's longest win streak. We thank you, Coach Wittingham.BYU --- STOP RUNNING YOUR MOUTHS AND DEAL WITH IT!
Collie said it was a battle out there? It looked more a like a butt whipping
I doubt too many teams in the Mountain West will be able to handle TCU,
including and unfortunately, my Utes. However, TCU played out of their mind,
thus there is still hope :) GO UTES!!
OhioCoug,Disagree with what you did about the running game. It's
unfortunate that Anae DIDN'T run more (not just agains TCU - it's been a problem
all season). First drive of the game BYU ran 3 straight for a 1st
down...then inexplicably started throwing the ball. Momentum went to TCU when
Hall couldn't keep his cool. On their one scoring drive of the game BYU ran the
ball reasonably; then next drive they have 1st and 10 at the 11 and throw four
straight? Come on, give us a chance to get to 26-14! Though I enjoy
a good passing game, Hall has demonstrated all year he cannot look off
defenders. BYU hadn't played a team with a good secondary until last
night...and it showed. Throwing into triple coverage is never a good idea.
Especially when TCU knows a pass is coming. Should've been 4-5 INTs. How many yards were lost on 7 sacks? If BYU runs more, they are sacked less,
resulting in both cases with improved rushing stats and ball control. Sadly BYU's run-blocking suffers since the run hasn't been a priority all
year. Poor Harvey labors for 3YPC instead of the 7-8YPC he'd get with better
Utes, I wouldn't get too anxious for a conference title. Your offense sucks and
if BYU can only score 7, you probably won't do much. Can you imagine bj standing
back in the pocket? Home boy gets scared everytime he takes a hit. TCU will
What was exposed (besides an all-around average team)was BYU's horrible
cornerbacks. I think we have new coaches back there, why do we continue to year
after year get CB's that seem to lack training in turning around to look at the
ball when it is in the air?
Let the peasants up north enjoy their day. At least the Cougars lost to a
nationally ranked and very good team. We won't bring up UNLV last year.Live in the glory of another teams loss. Remember you still have to play TCU
Utes are next.
Hall has to stop throwing into double and triple coverage and play smart.
Oh that was sweet last night! Enjoyed every second of it. That said, I think
the Utah fans are starting to sound like byu fans. I hope, and think they will,
lose a game along the way.
Hummmmm......BYU could play in the SEC and win? Where are those comments today?
I predicted yesterday that the game would be a blowout and who was right? YES
Beaten but not out...GO COUGS, BEAT UTAH!
One thing is for certain: Bronco ain't no URBAN MEYER! BYU looked very
unprepaired for this game.
Obviously, few people have read Bronco's explanations about BYU's "Quest for
Perfection". Or if they did, they didn't understand them, which is OK. He didn't
expect they would, and so far, most of the comments after the loss have been
right where he said they would be. The Quest is not so much about going
undefeated and crashing the BCS--which is how many have spun it--as it is about
dealing with adversity, developing a balance in life, building character,
keeping things in their proper place and order, performing up to personal
expectations on and off the field. And yes, winning is part of it, too. But only
a part. It is expected as the end result if the other things are properly dealt
with, but is not promised. What athlete doesn't plan to win every game they
play? But I have not read any statement from a BYU player claiming that there
wasn't still work to do, or improvements that could be made. That would be
arrogance indeed! It is a Quest, as Bronco properly labeled it; a professed
desire, not a proclaimed attribute. And TCU proved that the Quest is still very
much alive (and needed).
I've decided that reading and posting on these message boards is the biggest
waste of time that anyone can subject their mind to. It's just a place for
retards to spout off their stupid opinions, and byu and utah fans seem to always
be at the top of the list. To all the ute 'byu haters', you're retarded. To all
the self righteous byu 'quest for perfectioners', you're retarded too. To
Deseret News, disallow comments, and let people get back to doing something
meaningful with their internet time, like playing fantasy football or video
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a UTE
FAN laughing at the BYU football team and their fans that thought they were good
because what is that? Oh yeah they previously played all those crappy, scrub
teams and won. They should be out of the 25 and Max "Dumbo Ears" Hall should
have his name taken out of Heisman consideration. Why it was there anyways is
anyones wildly, imaginative guess. Maybe now KSL sports and Tommy "The Head"
Kirkland will stop gushing over Bronco for a week. No, I know that won't happen.
ha ha ha. You guys suck
I'm with "psychoanalysis." I'm much happier watching BYU lose than Utah win!
It's not about Utah, it's about hating BYU. I could care less what happens from
here on out. It was great to see "perfection" derailed. BYU's arrogance and
their self-righteous attitude is coming back at them full circle today.
No alarm needed to wake up this morning...too sick.Promised myself I
wouldn't read any articles on the debacle of last night's game...promised to
certainly not read any of the mindless take of the Ute fans...promised myself it
would just be another game...promised myself that Friday morning would be a new
day and feel better...promised myself that one game does not make a season...So much for promises. For the one of several mindless Ute
fans who said it was an embarassment to the MWC??? Excuse me? Gee, all this time
I thought TCU was in the MWC, had the top #1 Defense in the Country and was in
the top 25 @ #24. I guess I was wrong...so what conference is TCU in, since they
destroyed the image of the MWC? What a moron. Even after an ugly loss one
would think the Ute fans could come up with something intelligent. Oh yeah, then
there was the Coug fan not much better, "next time a MWC team looks half decent,
voters will think twice.." Say what??? Here are facts: TCU has been
under-rated all season. BYU will always get the A game from opponents. This pain
I don't follow football that close but I didn't realize that UTAH has already
beaten TCU. When did that happen? Lots of smack talking on here by a school
that still has to beat TCU and BYU. Everyone in the Mountain will have a lose
by year's end.
If BYU had a team, it would have been wonderful to have had Utah and BYU
undefeated at the end of the season. It would have been wonderful for all the
media coverage. It would have been wonderful indeed. But BYU doesn't
have that good of a team, so what's you're point? You play the game
with the team you have, not the team you hoped you had. Just accept that BYU
has a good team this year, not a great team. Get over it!P.S. USC &
Penn State in the National Championship, Utah in the Rose Bowl! You heard it
Sorry Cougs. This really didn't turn out like I had hoped...I really wanted the
Utes to be the ones to break you. Oh well, the 22nd won't quite be the same, but
crushing BYU under any circumnstances is okay with me.Go Utes!!
Hey, Calm down,If you are calling Utah's team "mediocre"--that's how
it is really spelled--then what is that saying about BYU? Sub-mediocre?
Besides, this isn't about Utah, who didn't even play last night. This is about
BYU losing to TCU, thus taking them out of the BCS picture!!!
Yesterday, "BCS Standings | 12:20 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008" wrote:I have

Ute fan here and I was pulling for BYU last night, just so I could sell my Nov
22nd tickets for a premium. Thanks to the pathetic BYU performance last night,
the value of my 2 Utah vs. BYU tickets has decreased faster than my 401K, which
is really saying something.
Welcome to Texas and Lone Star football. The Cougars embarrassed themselves on
nearly every defensive play, and while the offense was sputtering, the special
teams choked time and again. Sorry, sorry effort on the part of the cougar
You can't be all that surprised with this loss. BYU gave many signs of weakness
all season long. It was bound to happen. It only took a team who knew how to
exploit those weaknesses. I mentioned yesterday on DesNews that I
thought both BYU and Utah would have one loss when they were to meet each other
on Nov 22 and I predicted that BYU's loss would come to TCU. I foresee Utah
beating TCU but losing a close one to a team they overlook. Utah
will win the match this year to give BYU 2 losses for the season. But hey, at
least no MWC team will be playing in a BCS game which is the way it should be
because everyone knows that real football is played in the Big XII.
I apologize Utah Fans! For the past few weeks I've taunted you and belittled
your program, but today I must be a man and admit I was wrong. I was truly
embarrassed by our performance at TCU and until/unless we beat you in Salt Lake
City I will no longer be posting any negative comments about the Utes. It's never fun when your team loses, but part of being a sports fan is eating
some crow when your team lets you down (I hope Utah wins the rest of their games
so that we can try to beat them later in the year). Again, I'm SO sorry!
BYU has to play both TCU and UTAH on the road which is tough. Before UTAH starts
with the smack talk, they should see they haven't played anyone yet. BYU still
beats UTAH and wins the mountain west. TCU got all ready for this game and will
To all those BYU fans predicting that Utah will lose to TCU in Salt Lake. All
you need to do is look at the TCU vs. Colorado State game (13-7). TCU is not
the same team on the road, and with the right preparations, they can be beat.
Besides, going on the road during a "short week" makes the week shorter. Just
When BYU got worked by New Mexico that should've been a wake up call that things
weren't clicking. But because a win is a win everybody stayed content
in their la la land. The Utes have been lucky to win and stay
undefeated but they are not as arrogant and prideful as the cougars.Hopefully the Utes can learn a good lesson from this and avoid the Pride
Now I'm really worried about Utah and TCU. TCU could have hung with Oklahoma
last night. Where was this TCU team when they played in Norman? (Wow). It will be hard for the Utes to win out. The Frogs,Rams, and Lowblows really
will have a chip on their shoulders. Great teams know haw to play smart and
match their opponents intensity.Contrary to national opinion, our
league is a tough one.Come on Utah! Don't let Boise state take your
BCS bowl away from you.GO UTES!
BYU did this to themselves. The team, their fans, their coaches, were too caught
up with perfection, rankings, the BCS, and National recognition. The jury is
still out on Utah, but you don't hear talk about these things coming from the
Utah camp this season. BYU was looking too far ahead, but unfortunately, their
head was in the clouds.
B.Y. U. hasn't played anyone yet this whole year. Yes they can beat Weber State
maybe on their home field??? But nobody in the top 25 away from blessed B.Y.U.
Lets go to church and talk about it???
TCU was better last night. It will be good for the cougs. They will be back in
the top 12 by the end of the season.Prediction....Utah loses at New
MexicoThis was TCU's bowl game they will lose 1 moreBYU will win
out.... Collie is still open.... AndUtah goes to the emerald bowl.As
for the cougars. You rock!To my Utah friends..... You have to beat us
before you can mouth off. Everything else is just being a bunch of chumps.
Bronco needs to prepare his tropps a little better. And I will definately agree
with others whove said that our team is slow. You've gotta have speed in the
skill positions in this game, or you will lose big against sec, big 12, teams.
Collie needs to unhitch the piano and light a fire under his legs. It was
obvious that TCU players were much more athletic. BYU has a good system, but
thats not enough. You've gotta have the players within the system who are
athletic enough to blow the game wide open. Very dissapointing that Bronco
couldn't get his team more amped up for this one.
Maybe it's just me but today the sky seems more blue, the grass is more green,
and the Mountains more Beautiful.Life and the quality there of took a big
leap forward last night. "The Quest for Perfection" ended and we no longer
have to stand at attention as BYU pounds there chests claiming to be the best
the in the Nation. I think they call it in the LDS Church....... "Pride
comes before the fall".
There is no question BYU is not the best team in the conference after taking the
pounding they did...But the Puke fans out there need to understand how
inconsistant the the Pukes offense has been this year, Brian Johnson is a
turnover machine and the majority of the offense comes from two running backs
and a kicker, TCU's defense will stop the big SLOW running backs and take the
game in Salt Lake... Be prepared Puke fans to receive a beating by TCU.
maybe they should rather go play some flag football. the womens soccer team can
handle the rest of the season. go soccer!!!!!
SOOOO Funny. Go Utes!
Heads up team; The worst has passed; Live and learn; Drive on; Can't quick yet.
Ha ha stupid cougar. Even if BYU does beat Utah, which is not likely after they
were so thoroughly EXPOSED and DOMINATED last night, how will they win the
Mountain West? That would leave both teams with one loss! You better start
cheering for Utah to beat TCU November 6! It's your only chance!!! Ha ha enjoy
rooting for us as your only chance at any redemption!!! I also don't see TCU
slipping up against anyone else but Utah. Did you watch the game last night?
They looked AWESOME.
BUMMER!!!! Ah, well. Happens even to the best of teams. TCU should live and
sleep in fear up to the next game against BYU. Nightmares galore!
BYU fan can use your "Quest For Perfection" Tee shirt to wax my Red "Utah"
Quest for Perfection? How about Quest for Perplexion.
OVER-RATED!! If a #24 beats a team the loser team should be out of the top
25!! Case in point with the overated BYU team. EXTREMELY OVER-RATED!!I also noted that there are not too many cougar fans on here saying how
awesome they are.
Then... Then... Then... you are such a meathead.
BYU needs to re-think these motivational platitudes they print on their
T-shirts. Its embarassing to get your butt whipped while on your "quest for
perfection". Maybe GOD was really on the side of the Texas Christians and wanted
his "saints" to get a dose of humility.
Thank you TCU for helping out Boise State. Now we just need to have Utah lose
sometime. Of course, Boise State needs to win all of their games too. It will
be interesting to see how Utah and Boise State will rank when the first BCS poll
comes out. I would really like to see two non bcs schools go to a BCS bowl
game if they both are rated in the top 10. Even if they have to play against
each other but that probably won't happen.
I could tell from the start the Cougs were in trouble. Guess they never read the
papers about TCU focusing on this game for almost a year. They just never
matched TCU intensity. Big D wins trumps big O every time. Better put a TCU
helmet on your blocking dummies for next year boys.
tcu wins the conference....byu and utah both lose to tcu....
Instead of getting sacked 6 times! I'm wondering if he made a mistake this
morning. He left his mission after a couple of months for this?!Did
I mention, 6 sacks?!
I think it's funny that Boise State crept in on the conversation. But since it
come up I must say that Boise State's win over Oklahoma was far more impressive
than Utah's win over Pitt. The WAC is poised to make 3 in a row,
which is really saying something considering how weak of a conference they are.
Say what you will about schedules but Boise State has a higher quality win
against Oregon than Utah has against Oregon State.
Do you think any of the BYU players received any of those cute little cougar
stickers for their helmets last night?
As a UTE FAN: I have to admit that I expected more at of your blue team. I
would've like to see an undefeated matchup in Nov. but that didn't happen. TCU
dominated up front and that's where it went all down hill for your blue team. I
know that that our UTES are going to take it one game at a time. Starting with
Colorado State. Too bad your blue team couldn't do the same. Too much hype I
guess. Well always remember, GO UTES!!!
You still are not in reality are you? You just got creamed by a #24 team and
you think you are better then them. Not just beat, but creamed!!
I won't even bother reading the comments, I know what they say and I'm sure that
there a lot of "mature" Utes that are showing their true colors in mocking the
Cougars for the loss. Bottom line, TCU outplayed BYU in EVERY aspect of the
game. I give credit to them. They are the better team. Despite how hard it
is, I will still cheer for utah to win out the remainder of the games and hope
that BYU can pull it together quickly and win their remaining games. The real travesty is we could have 3 MWC teams with only 1 loss and the best
they can do is the stupid Vegas Bowl
I don't know about you but when ute fans pile on after a loss, it only convinces
me I AM CHEERING FOR THE RIGHT TEAM!Go COUGS!
I didn't take the time to read all the comments above. I'll just let my
imagination to that for me. I'm sure that while all the fans (including me)
feel bad about the loss, can you imagine how the coaches and players feel? It's
not the end of the world, all is not lost. At least I live in Texas Tech
country and can watch the Red Raiders destroy Texas A & M this weekend.
SWACK!!! The game was like watching an NFL team playing a college team. If TCU
is this prepared for the Utes, it will be an ugly game for the Utes. TCU rocked!!!
We were exposed. We struggled to beat a pathetic Washington St. UCLA and Wyoming
are simply awful. For 3 out of 4 quarters Utah St. who could be the worst team
in the country, handled us. New Mexico but for a few plays could have won that
game. We just had no idea that we were not very good. Max struggles mightily
outside of LES. Our linebackers can't make open field tackles and every athletic
QB that we have faced just makes them look silly. Bronco is a classy guy.
But if he is serious when he says his team was not ready - that is a problem. If
you cannot be prepared for the biggest game you have played all year, then maybe
it becomes time to re-evaluate your strategy.
not a state of being. It doesn't end unless it's called off. How many times
does that have to be explained?
As a Utah fan I really enjoy it when BYU loses. And it's not because I hate BYU,
it's more for the BYU fans. It just made me smile to come into work this morning
and see their miserable faces, being quiet for a change. It was nice. Now I know Utah will be next and all that. I'm perfectly aware of that Utah
can lose to anyone. But today I'm not going to worry about any of that. I'll
just relish in BYU's demise, again not anything against BYU.
BYCC way to go on national TV! Try scheduling some real teams so you are not so
overrated and overhyped. Nice quest.
Funny was the word we said last night as we were sworn at, spit at, and had
finger gesters given to us as we walked out of the TCU stadium last night as a
family and with little children next to us. You see, we want Utah to beat TCU.
And then, well, we want BYU to smash Utah. Oh, that makes it a three way
Mountain West Tie. So, Utah fans, what will it be? Whom do you root for? Who
do you want to win Utah or TCU? Hum, this is very funny.
I am not a BYU fan and I am very upset about this lost. College football is a
joke. BYU will still have a great season and their reward may be a trip to Las
Vegas? A joke. BYU is now out of the BCS discussion. TCU is too. MY BCS Busters
are now down to the Utes, Boise St., maybe Ball St, and maybe Tulsa.
I'm just going to say what real football fans have been saying for weeks, BYU is
over rated. This is what happens when you play a winning football program and
not low level opponents that are easy to blow out. BYU was exposed last night,
no defense, weak offensive line, poor pass protection, no heart, poor
quarterback decision making and most obvious of all lack of effort. I guess
Austin wasn't living right this week or somebody lost their coin. What else
could explain this loss right BYU fans? I guess the "quest for perfection" is
now the quest for 11-1.
hey kewgs. the bcs is calling and they want their "quest" back. seriously, that
is the only thing i love about kewger fan. they get soooooo high and full of
themselves that ANY setback makes you look like a donkey. now there are some of
you talking about next year. you ARE more entertaining than your teams. REAP
WHAT YOU SOW. P.S. I haven't heard from scoobie or some of you other fully
invested band wagoners. i'm sure you'll show up on these boards as utah fans
under another name : )
Cougar fans are forever looking for validation of lifestyle through the football
team, and it's a hopeless quest. They can't and never will recruit the kind of
players and coaches needed to win at the highest level. Can't have your cake
and eat it too.
A closer read of these comments will show that very few Ute fans are jumping up
and down saying "we are the best" or "now we clearly have a shot at the
championship game" or "we must be best because we have the longest win streak in
the country", etc.Almost all of us Ute fans realize that we have at
best a 25% chance of winning out. TCU, NM, and BYU will be very tough and
hopefully no letdowns with CSU or SDSU. We probably have a 25% chance of losing
two. We all know that. We hope and cheer for the best possible outcome but we
don't pretend to be in the class of Texas, et al.We are, however,
reveling a bit that the BYU bloggers (many too shallow to post today) have had
their bubble burst. B Y Hubris takes the day off. Finally, it's
funny how the "Quest" thing is now being dumbed down by some. If it truly is
only a life philosophy, then obviously sales of Quest t-shirts will continue
(maybe even increase!) and this theme will be prominently used by the BYU
football program for many seasons to come... right?
for the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl:BYU vs BSUAnyone wants to
make an early prediction for that game?BYU fans, what do you think?BSU fans, what are your thoughts?SoCalUtahFan
re: Provo | 9:47 p.m. Oct. 16, 2008 And Maybe Andrew Hatch who is
LDS and plays @ LSU will have an Alma the Younger moment and transfer away from
a inferior conference and school and come to Zion.
You know, PRIDE's a funny thing. Too much of it will wind up making you look
Yeah I guess the quest never ends, but how many times do you see highlights on
Sports Center of BYU players doing service projects, or attending church? We
are talking about FOOTBALL here, FOOTBALL. Going along with your rational there
are a lot of players accross the country that want to live good lives off the
field, not just better than thou BYU players. Get off your high horse and
realize that there are other good people out there in college football.
re: Don't worry Cougs | 10:21 p.m. Oct. 16, 2008 What about the
Bowling for Soup song? Or do you mean the Van Halen album?
BCS game? Gone. Shot at Heisman? Gone. Still my Cougs. Love them forever. I hope
Utah beats TCU. It will make BYU's 1 point victory over Utah on Nov. 22 all the
Unfortunately the same team that played Utah State and New Mexico showed up last
night. Utah and UNLV are probably licking their chops...I hope the
humiliation wakes up a team that hasn't played like a top 20 team in about a
month. One week at a time. Go Cougs!
Does NCAA keep stats for 'yards after catch'?? If so, I'm sure Pitta has ZERO. I
don't remember a single pass his way that he doesn't intentionally slide to the
ground to catch in front of a little 180 lb. cornerback. C'mon! that cost us at
least 3 first downs that stopped drives that could have been touchdowns. STAY ON
YOUR FEET WHEN YOU CATCH THE FOOTBALL!!!
Don't yak 'til you play 'em... If even WE couldn't beat em, what shot do you
re: Eli | 10:45 p.m. Oct. 16, 2008 >>People will always mock those
who strive for the top and fail. OK, suppose BYU finishes the season 11-1 or
10-2. Some narrow minded souls will suggest this is somehow a poor showing, due
to overblown expectations. BYU will end up with a record that is reflective of
how good they are, nothing more, nothing less.
What is this about TCU being such a great team. BYU did not show up, the
coaches, the players, and all those players who volunteer at an elementary
throwing balls. And therefore might not be eligible under some fine print NCAA
rule, and BYU can't break any rules so you have to leave them off the plane.
Because the assumption of guilt is always handing over you BRONCO.
Was there a game last night? I must have missed it. Go Tampa Bay Rays!
re: Golden Domer | 2:12 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008 Actually, the Univ of
Miami has won more titles than BYU as have LSU & the Univ of Florida.BYU's reputation? Give me a break.Notre Dame has a storied history
but thats it. They are no longer worth of all the hype they get.Mark
Mangino > Charlie Weis
Having "Quest for Perfection" as the theme of your season was a bad idea. Where
do you go from here? Do you "quest" for the Vegas Bowl? I mean, seriously,
what's left now?
It's too bad Max Hall won't win the Heisman. Oh well, atleast they have a dork
walker award winner.
What shot do we have. You dont realize that the U of U is a better team than b y
boo, we will show you happy valley dwellers down south how to beat them when
they come to RES. What a quest it was, lol, GO UTES!!!!!
BYU falls from the tower called Rameumptom.Go Bosie State
Funny how everyone thinks TCU has speed. You haven't seen speed until you play
Florida. They make TCU look like 40 year old men running down the field. Real
speed comes from real conferences. Not the MWC.
that said something about the last three years bowls........bluebies were going
1 - 2 with the lone win last years miracle. the utes were elsewhere pounding
miss. states top ranked defense, Ga techs unstopable offense including calvin
johnson who walks on water and two other nfl running backs, and making a sleeper
out of last years offering. funny how you won't go to the year before
that...........other teams played in bolws those years too just because you
didn't. and go back and count for yourself how many bowl wins that is in a row.
i think it leads the nation. hmmmmmmmmmmm. i went and got my car washed this
morning and the kid was wiping it down with a couple of those quest for
prefection tees. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. WHERE ARE YOU SCOOBIE ? rise and
The cougars have been knocked down several pegs & shut out.... of the BCS.Hypothetically; I can't wait to see the Kansas Jayhawks whip BYU in the
Cotton Bowl. Though, would Bronco & co want to go back to the DFW
area so soon?
Well, we all have our off days, I guess.
Utes loss is soon to follow
The MWC has some nice teams, but year in and year out the WAC is better.Look at the Breakdown for most years:#1: Boise/Utah: Both
have won a BCS game, and both try to schedule up. Edge Boise: Boise is more
consistant, and doesn't tend to have letdowns against bad teams.#2
Hawaii/BYU: Similir team. Both have offenses that put up huge numbers against
bad teams, and can't do anything against good teams. Both try to schedule down
to have a glossy record make them look better than they are. Edge Hawaii.
They've made a BCS bowl.#3 Fresno/TCU: Both have good teams every
few years, but nothing more. Edge: Fresno. Fresno's good years mean top 15,
while TCU's good years mean top 25.Middle of the pack: Flip a
coin.Bottom dwellers: Edge: Even. Even though USU and Idaho are
worse than Wyoming SDS, it doesn't really matter. The point is that your good
teams are never ever in danger of losing a game to your bottom dwellers. That
makes the edge: even. Both are very similar conferences, but you
would have to say that the WAC is better. That is why they are mentioned more
TCU did to BYU last night what Oklahoma did to TCU a couple weeks
ago...capitalize on turnovers and beat the opponent's secondary with superior
QB/receiver play (that doesn't say much about the BYU secondary, I recognize
that. They put Brady Quinn on the map a few years ago and could make any QB
look all-world).Here's to TCU beating the Utes, finishing 11-1 and
going to the BCS as the first 1-loss non-BCS school. They are easily the best
non-BCS school in that scenario, no disrespect to Boise St. Ball St
and Tulsa wouldn't get into the BCS over a 1-loss TCU, and after their win last
night (especially if the Cougars get their heads back on and finish 6-2 or 7-1
in conference) and a win over the Utes, TCU should jump Boise St in both the
polls and computers and the polls. TCU will be within 2-3 poll spots of Boise
State next Monday, and have a much better remaining schedule.I'm all
for cheering on the MWC for a BCS birth, as long as it isn't the Utes.
I am assuming since there are 350 posts, there are a lot of Ute "fans" trolling
around. Why is it still a great day to be a Cougar, you ask? Simple, we still
suppport our team and will still go to the games. It dawned on me today that it
really would suck to be a Ute "fan". Seriously. The second things go bad for the
Utes, or they have a couple losses, goodbye "fans" and they are back to 120
people in the stands. In fact, that bandwagon empties so fast, you better get
out of the way or you will get trampled on the way to the exit. Trust me, I have
seen it time and time again for 30 years. So, while I actually think that Utah
has a good football team, and I actually like a lot of their players, their
"fans" remain PATHETIC. So, I will take my TCU beatdown like a man and as
always, it is better to be a Cougar fan than a Ute "fan".
I call it as I see it, and I saw this coming with the the performance in the
last two games. Utah fans, keep it up, your turn at TCU is coming too, it's a
Horned Frog Year my friends, pack up we and ye are going to the nut bowl,
Poinsettia Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl, we won't even be going to the Las Vegas
Bowl this year!
Truly a most justified poke at the byu fans. 8 pages of comments and counting!
I hope all you kewgs are reading this because you deserve it!!!Thats
what you get for recruiting missionaries!BYU is WAY
well we have a much better chance than you because we will actaully be
prepared...i wonder what collie did wrong off the field last week???
Cougars fans,Tough game guys. Your school still has a great team
and I expect they will bounce back. See you in November.....Ute Fan
What a sad game and loss. I can no longer hope for BYU and Utah to both be
unbeaten up until 11/22. At least, now I can get back to what's natural...loving
to hate the Utes and cheering for whomever they are playing - every week.
Huge Cougar fan but I have to admit the public "Quest for Perfection" just
didn't sit right from the very beginning. Yeah, we are a Church school and all
the non-football stuff matters but how many regular Church members have suffered
somehow from believing they have to be "perfect"? Words matter and I'm afraid
Mendenhall chose poorly- again. Like most Cougar fans, I had a very
uneasy feeling through the USU and NM games that something just wasn't right. I
was afraid if we came out like that against TCU we would be beat soundly and
that is exactly what happened. Still I was shocked at just how athletic and fast
TCU was in comparison. They looked exactly like we did against UCLA - on an
entirely different level. Also, BYU needs to stop acting like they
have the monopoly on good, spiritual players. There are thousands of Mike Reeds
out there that are just as dedicated to their religion and being good, moral
kids. The Mendenhall-lead football team has been a reflection of the Church in
general - a bit too self-righteous. I'm okay with a 10-2 BYU coming back loaded
in 09 if Utah can make the BCS.
to thank Cougar nation for the thousands of Quest for Perfection shirts that
have been donated over the past couple of hours. Your generosity is
unparalleled, in that we have never received so many donations of one product.
Extra staff has been called in to help.Unfortunately, they will
probably have to be shipped overseas as we cant imagine anyone outside of Utah
County actually wearing anything as ridiculous as this or the Fully Invested
shirt in public.Maybe next years slogan should be Got Humility?
Hold Heads High for what? I am coug but seriously the only reason they should
hold their heads hig his to keep from drowning in a sea of shame
yo:"church or ball | 12:55 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008 You can't mix the two,get
used to it coug fans..you guys will always loose"Hey is that why
Texas Christisn University won, either church or ball. Way to be uninformed.I don't want my team to "loose". I guess education and the U don't mix.
Members of our group, watching the game, kept asking:"Why has BYU abandoned
being who they are -- a passing team -- to try rushing, especially against a
team with a strong defense? Why doesn't Max Hall get further back from the line
to throw? Why are BYU receivers so easily covered, and TCU receivers left in the
wide open spaces, most of the time? Why do TCU receivers catch most of their
passes, and BYU receivers drop most of theirs? Why does Max Hall throw such long
passes to receivers barely across the line of scrimmage? Why is TCU getting
through BYU linemen so easily? Why can't we hold on to the ball?"Why, why, why, Be WHY You?
While I still believe BYU is a top 25 team, this was their first real test this
season and they failed miserably. I would attribute last nights loss to three
things.1. BYU was a bit overrated2. BYU had a terrible
night And most importantly,3. TCU is a great team.
BYU fans, you need to stack up on speed, not beef! you guys are slow and
unathletic, finally TCU exposes how silly this BCS hype is! bahahahahaha
Yada yada yada.....smack it up. It will be funny when UTAH losses, then we can
have our turn. If you win all your games, kudos but you won't. Keep dreaming
your dream. And who cares if Utah won a BCS game, that is in the past. I guess
we could just say in the same sentence, we got our championship which Utah will
never see. Yada yada yada!
Ouch: "OK Utah fans. Before you start going off...Utah still has to play TCU and
BYU and they haven't looked that sharp yet."You are 100% correct
Utes have looked average at best YET we are undefeated. After we smack TCU
around the Y is next.GO UTES!!
I have to say, as a neutral observer, I hope the Utes get their hearts broken
too. I had hoped for both teams to be 11-0 on November 22, but now that's
ruined and I am back to thinking BYU and Utah have the most obnoxious fans in
the country, both delusional about their own greatness and standing in the
college football world. Go Oklahoma State!
The Utah football program, it's coaches, or it's fans have never said they were
going to be undefeated this year. They have said it is their goal to win the
conference. The BYU football program put together that stupid
"quest for perfection" campaign which included t-shirts (thank Mendenhall for
raising expectations to unprecidented levels and then putting an unprepared team
on the field). What are you guys going to do with all those t-shirts? Utah may well lose to TCU but know this, BYU COACHES AND FANS HAVE BEEN
RUNNING THEIR MOUTHS FOR AT LEAST 9 MONTHS. If BYU fans want someone to blame
for what is being written on this board, look first to your coach and next to
yourselves.BYU FANS DO NOT FORGET THAT TCU WAS DESTROYED BY
OKLAHOMA! Your football team simply is not very good!
Finally BYU plays a decent team and we see the results. Why doesnt BYU go out
and schedule with good teams like Utah has in the past few years. I guess
Bronco is afraid of losing his chance of a national championship, oh wait they
will never get there unless they schedule somebody difficult. The bottom of the
Pac 10 is worse than the bottom of the Mountain West.
I wanted not to be happy about this loss. I really did.Oh well I
"Notice that the comment board has over 250 comments. The reason is due to the
prideful cougars posting every day." Um, the reason is:#1. Ute fans are posting.#2. BYU always get more Ute fans posting on
their boards because of the infatuation with BYU. This could be a story on
Austin Collie's and Max Hall's cars, and Utah fans would out post BYU 5-1.#3. BYU is the most important cultural ICON in the Western United States. Love
them or hate them, you are passionate. The program owns you. Same story about
Utah? Utah is prideful, arrogant, and whiney, and would get 50-100 posts.Fact it, BYU owns you.
Get real Utah (the state) ... we have teams to be proud of - and times when they
struggle. There are games I root for the U, and games I root for the Y. Smack
talk happens all the time - you can call either team over rated - but lets hope
all teams in our state improve and win, ultimately it helps us all. Lets send a
team into the BCS every year from our conference and make that more important
than hoping the other team loses just for spite. Being the best is about
winning YOUR games... not hoping someone else loses.
How humbly the prideful fall! BYU should have seen this coming. All the easy
wins must have got to their heads.
good morning cougar fans rise and shout
That WAC/MWC Breakdown could only have been derived by someone who was clearly
Stop laughing. You will lose to TCU too.
Wow, TCU came out with guns blazing last night. With the way they played last
night, I think we would've lost even without the turnovers, although they did
hurt and put us in a huge 1st half hole. Well, utes, there's your warning, these
boys are wanting that MWC title bad this year. They made for darn sure we didn't
have 3 undefeated conference championships. BYU's season isn't over though,
anything can happen, we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully they don't have
a huge let down and play crappy the rest of the year because their undefeated
season and win streak is gone.
BYU has lost a game before. We survived.Ute fan, you
should really know what that feels like, it wasn't that long ago you lost to
BYU.Don't be getting all prideful on us now. First, the Utah team
was at home last night, and did nothing. Stop pattin yourselves on the back.Take care of cSU rhis weekend for sure. You have New Mexico
and TCU still to play before the BCS knocks.
I can't believe "Consolation" went to the 1984 card. It's been 24 years since
you didn't deserve that title. Washington was clearly the best team in the land
that year. You beat a near 500 Michigan team and We beat an undefeated Oklahoma
team. Oh..I'm Sorry...was I thinking out loud again? I guess I need to get over
1984 as well. If the Red Sox would have lost last night, I guarantee that Red
Sox Fan would not be going around saying...At least they won last year, and that
real Championship was only one year old. The pressure is now off the Cougars and
squarely on the UTES! Let's hope they handle it better then byu,. sorry, I
coundn't get myself to capitalize it.
How is it we didn't see this coming. We lost the last 3 quarters to USU 14 - 10
and it would have been 21 - 10 had they not called a questionable hold.
I was pulling for the Y to win. TCU scares me right now. They showed they can
bring it. BYU, a very good program, looked like swiss cheese. Utah better fix
its offense pronto.
Judging by the activities and atmosphere prevalent at most "FOOTBALL" schools,
perhaps BYU is meant to remain a university known most for its clean, moral, and
spiritual nature, rather than its charging, winning Cougars!? But, of course, it
WOULD be nice to have BOTH!
I have only read comments of how bad BYU played, not much talk about the
superior play of TCU. TCU's only loss this year has been to then number 2
Oklahoma, in Norman, at a point when OK knew a win would make them #1, and
motivated by revenge toward the only team (TCU in 2005) that had beat them at
home in 3 years. How is TCU's current ranking fair? Go Frogs, just continue to
play "Horn Frog Football" and the rest will work itself out.
Great, here comes another Las Vegas Bowl, maybe.I'm sick of going to
Now will you please just shut up!! Can I pick up a "Quest" tshirt for cheap
Your loss last night leave you collectively in a bit of a conundrum does it
not...If Utah is able to remain undefeated (note IF), they will
likely receive a BCS birth. As you know, the payout is somewhere around $15
Million. One million goes to each team in the conference and then the
University of Utah will retain the balance. As in 2004, no doubt
BYU will gladly accept $1 Million courtesy of the University of Utah. So here's
the question...is rooting AGAINST Utah really worth $1 Million to you? Come
November 22nd (if Utah is still undefeated) ask yourselves if you want BYU to
have an extra $1 Million and then choose your favorite team accordingly.Something to think about. Comments welcome!!
Wow! I knew all along that hoping for 2 undefeated teams on 11/22 was a long
shot. Kind of deflates the season. Here's hoping that the Utes are
able to step it up, stay focused and win out. With what I saw last night, the
Utes are going to have to bring all they have and then some. To say I'm not
concerned would be less than honest. Go Utes!
byu was very overrated. I am glad tcu is in the conference to give more respect
to our conference. they really out played byu and it shows that byu really
isn't that good yet. too snobbish is byu. if they are this good then they
should blow out the rest of them teams and have a great game at utah. if that
doesn't happen then it does prove that they really aren't that good and the
secondary proved that they can't play with the best. just not fast enough.
Utes, enjoy it while you can, you'll get beat by TCU as well.

Beautiful.Life and the quality there of took a big leap forward last

outcome of the BYU game changes everything. Obsession can be treated. "I think they call it in the LDS Church....... "Pride comes before the
fall"."Actually, that's preached in all churches of the world. You
spend too much time obsessed with the LDS church and BYU.
All I can say to you Ute supporters is "Watch Out". TCU is a difficult team. But BYU's mission is not about being perfect in football, or any other
sport. BYU's mission is to "assist individuals in their quest for perfection and
eternal life". Also, if you've been paying attention, Bronco is
consistently talking about seeing the team prove what their character is like.
As Spencer W. Kimball put it in 1978, BYU "has no justification for its
existence unless it builds character."I think the majority of the
Cougar team has a lot of character, and I'm still proud to call them "my team".
Chin up BYU fans. Here is what we should hope for this year. TCU pounds a
12-13th ranked utah. BYU pounds utah. Ball state gets their butt kicked against
some crappy MAC team. Boise State gets beat by some bottom of the barrell WAC
team. TCU goes to a BCS bowl with just the one loss to OK, and BYU dominates
some pitiful PAC 10 team at the Vegas bowl ending the season 11-1. Next year we
return nearly all starters on defense and offense (minus a few starting
O-liners). BYU dominates their non-conference schedule again. TCU will be
rebuilding and we get them at home. Utah will have lost any starter that
matters and we get them at home to give the pounding of their life. The rest of
the MWC won't compete with us, and we bust the BCS. It's a long time to wait,
but after last night, I can be patient again.
Ha ha ha... That is classic.
What a joke I have never seen such an unprepared football team. No heart no guts
no passion for the game. Overrated was the proper chant at TCU last night. Enjoy
the BCS party Utah, sorry we did'nt hold up our end .
The Cougs will have a chance at redeeming themselves in Fort Worth in December
when they return for the Bell Helicopter Armed Services Bowl. Then they'll show
Ft Worth what they can do!
Most of these comments take a lot away from TCU. Give credit where it is due. This is the BEST defense in the country, kids. Utah is going to really
have their hands full. The "over-rated" comment is an asinine thing
to say. It insult by the fans to their own team. It was insulting to the Utah
State players when their fans said it (in a losing effort), and it is
disrespectful to TCU's powerful team if said in their impressive win over a good
BYU team.TCU has a very legitimate BCS shot still. They will vault
up in the polls with this win, and if their only loss is to Oklahoma at the end
of the year, expect to see them on TV aver New Year's ...
I told myself i would stay away from these message boards but this is too
perfect. From the loss Utah will be able to play 2 top 25 teams which will be
huge if we end up winning out from a BCS stand point. As for the comment "If we
couldnt beat them what makes you think that you can." The answer is simple, it
is all about match-ups. Face it BYU cannot stop the spread this year. They have
a huge problem with speed and mobile quarterbacks. Utah runs a very similar
offense to TCU and our Deffense faces it everyday, they can stop the run very
well and we have gread D-backs. Our offense has the edge with a better deep
threat and stronger and better backs. Utah will edge out TCU and put the hammer
down on BYU. Maybe if max hall trusted his other recievers he wouldnt be forcing
it to collie or pitta on every play. The game is changed and now speed is the
name of the game. BYU you have just proven what every UTE fan has been saying
all yearOVERRATEDGO UTES
Man, this just hurts. But what happens if utah beats tcu and byu beats utah?
There would be a three way tie for the confrence championship.
"zoobie | 9:40 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008 Truly a most justified poke at the byu
fans. 8 pages of comments and counting! I hope all you kewgs are reading this
because you deserve it!!!"8 pages of Utes commenting on BYU...You think this is because of the loss? Utah has been posting like this
for two years. BYU is the program in this State. They always get the
most comments.BYU has the national program.
I love how Y fans believe anyone who doesn't like them must be a Ute. There are
lots of non-Utes that are sick and tired of the self righteous Y fanatics who
believe the universe revolves around them. Last nights serving of humble pie
I just think the biggest problem is Bronco using a motto that is very
misunderstood. It was a poor choice of words. He wasn't saying that
BYU needed to have a perfect season. He was referring to individual players
striving for perfection, and said so plainly on TV interviews. However, now BYU is going to be mocked ruthlessly for it.
As a Utah fan, I am not worried about TCU right now and I hope the team isn't
either. The Utes still have to play Colorado State tomorrow. Let's keep our
focus and deal with the teams that our directly ahead on our schedule. Go UTES.
TCU Fan hit on the head. I realize this is a comment section regarding BYU, but
WOW was TCU good. When I learned that TCU was joing the MWC I was thrilled as I
knew they would bring credibility to a conference that needed it. I am a HUGE
college football fan (I don't care for the BCS conferences at all though--I
watch and keep track of the non-BCS schools as there is great football outside
of where the media says it is). TCU has so much speed it is incredible to
watch. TCU dominated every facet of the game last night. I don't think I have
EVER seen a BYU team more rattled than last night. Unbelievable! I
am a Utah fan, admittingly. I am nervous for TCU. They shut down a great BYU
offense (Hall still nearly passed for 300 yards!). How can Utah expect to win
against TCU with all of their inconsistencies? Now, there is talk that Mack is
going to play less of a role? He CARRIED this team a year ago. Asiata is a
North and South player and not capable of much else. If the offense does its
job Andy Ludwig can stay.
Neither BYU nor Utah want Boise State in their conference as recruiting
competition in the Wasatch as BSU honors missionaries as well, Boise State holds
winning records over both Utah something like (8-2) and BYU (2-0) many of the
Utah wins were as an IAA. Boise State is an immediate top tier team in the MWC
as is Fresno. Dont fool yourself Ute Guy! If any of you where to ask Kyle
Whittingham or Bronco Mendenhall they would tell you the same thing. Boise
state may not have the all the athletes of these schools, but they are a true
team that plays within a system that wins. Make fun of the hokey blue turf or
the silliness in the crowd then review the lifetime records and see if you can

I was hoping to see BYU beat TCU. TCU was ready BYU wasn't. I wanted the
unbeaten matchup Nov 22nd, it would have been great for both programs. Utah's
offense better find consistency or the painted on target that just shifted to
the Utes won't even have dried yet before it is wiped away. TCU is for
real (don't look past UNM either) and if Utah doesn't take note, the rabid Utah
fans that can't see past BYU losing and heed the warning will be eating a hefty
dish of crow followed by humble pie.UTAH!!!! Take note, heed the
warning and WIN OUT!!!!
"Ute fan, you should really know what that feels like, it wasn't that long ago
you lost to BYU."BYU fan, you are the one who should really know
what that feels like. You BYU fans always want to go back only to the 1980's.
Let's go back a little further, if we're looking at the entire U of U/BYU
series. There was a time in the 60's that the Utes held a 34 win 2 loss (and 4
ties) advantage over BYU. That has to be one of the most one-sided advantages
in the history of modern sports. There was even a time when the the coach at
BYU got carried off the field in celebration---even though the UTES STILL BEAT
THEM 33-32!!! When we refer to records, just remember that your selective
memory doesn't cut it. The only record that really matters concerning Utah/BYU
is 52-33-4, a 19-win advantage for the Utes. Utah has owned BYU for a century.
Move to Boise I don't know because you guys got smashed last year in Hawaii by
ECU enough said, but sorry BSU!
Something very obvious you can't teach speed.I'm a big fan but totaly
embarrarssed with the effort and lack of preparation by the players and coaches.
The only thing that kept other teams from exposing our weak secondary was the
other QB's just missed the receivers, #4 is the best we got, WOW? what is the 10
-15 yard cushion on the receivers on 3rd and 8?It is unbelieveable
that they wouldnt have been prepared for their speed and athletism, it is
unacceptable in my eyes.Still a cougar fan but totally embarrassed.
BYU's offense is what is overrated. They have not performed all year. Even the
59-0 win against UCLA, in which the BYU defense and Bruins turnovers made the
score what it was. BYU has no depth on offense and definetly do depth in their
play calling. Teams are locking them up because they do the same thing over and
over. The play calling is terrible and Hall makes his mind up where he is going
to throw before the ball is snapped. Oh, and somebody needs to teach chambers
how to run the ball. He looked ridiculous returning kicks last night.
So, let's take stock of the rest of the season. What do we play for? The Las
Vegas Bowl? Wahoo!!!!! How does Craig Thompson still show his face anywhere in
the mountain west? BYU can still have a great season, being one of three teams
in the conference ranked in the top 25, but thanks to Craig's sweet
negotiations, we get jack for a bowl. Conference USA gets the Liberty Bowl?! Oh
Well, at least we get the chance to play UCLA again.Fire Thompson.
Get a bowl. Get a TV Deal.
Hey zoobs. How's that crow taste? Last week Collie got called for an offensive
pass interference, now this week BYU gets SLAMMED. HA, what a wonderful world.
My Utes are the ONLY UNDEFEATED team in the MWC! GO UTES! Show
those coogs how to beat TCU.One last note - You zoobs need to learn
to lose with class. Don't make excuses, you got outplayed. Also, you have to
expect your comeuppance after this loss.
BYU goes 11-1, beats Utah by 21, takes second in the MWC to TCU, wins its bowl
game and ends the season in the top 15 with literally everyone returning next
season, Mendenhall comes up with a more humble battle cry next season (that has
nothing to do with a BofM scripture).TCU gets a nice bump in the
polls this weekend, wins out and squeezes into a BCS bowl game as the #12 team
(after BSU loses to Fresno State) and wins.Utah loses to TCU and
BYU, takes 3rd in the MWC, and starts over next season with a new QB.My Cougarfan reality - it truly will be tough if not impossible to have a team
comprised of 95% white, LDS, Eagle Scout RMs and compete athletically with the
top teams week in and week out. Great job representing the Church but we will
NEVER measure up athletically to the top teams. At times our execution will
prevail (UCLA) but at other times speed and athleticism will kill us (TCU).
To Aaron/OK State fan:Enjoy your top 10 ranking while you can,
because it will be short-lived after Texas, Oklahoma and probably Texas Tech
hand you your heads. It will then be back to mediocrity and irrelevance for
Oklahoma State. Unlike Mizzou, Texas and Oklahoma actually play and have a
solid defense.OK State actually reminds BYU in that they have padded
their record against nobodies with losing records, outside of Mizzou. OK State
will have their BYU moment in two weeks against Texas. Enjoy.
where are all the loyal BYU Fans? Most of these are negative about the game and
team when a week ago all you guys were talkin BCS run. YOu guys lay down on your
team pretty quick. The worst fans
Too bad BYU drank the kool-aid, fell in love with themselves and did not
maintain the intensity and focus needed to win. Teams have to ignore the media
hype and adulation during a season and maintain intensity or they will loose
when they could have won. Drinking the kool-aid is such a temptation and
distraction from paying attention to fundamentals and maintaining intensity. TCU
has been prepping for BYU since January, they had nothing to loose, it was up to
BYU to be at their best to win, but the cool-aid makes you think you are too
good to loose. BYU will have to just have to get themselves together, and begin
new streaks starting with the next game.

The Phillippines just recieved 20,000 "BYU 2008 National Champions" t-shirts
from the BYU athletic department.
BYU got worked. Plain and simple. But comments about BYU being the most
overrated, unprepared football team ever are out of wack. TCU showed that it is
the better team. That's fine. College football polls aren't known for their
accuracy. BYU controlled it's destiny this year and it failed. The Utes still
control theirs. I doubt they'll go undefeated, but they can prove the doubters
wrong. BYU can try and play spoiler now, but a lack of national respect is
deserved for the time being.
This the most embarrassingly loss in my cougar football memory.
I have now read it all. BYU fans writing about the pride of other teams fans.
Are you kidding me. I guess when your pride has turned into shear arrogance
then you feel the need to say other people have to much pride.
I watched this game and wanted the Y to lose. I was truly impressed with TCU and
their speed on defense, also, they were good at tackles that brought the Cougs
down. TCU was a far superior team and this should give the U some excellent
tapes to study of the Y and TCU. Any team can lose on any given day. The
Y seems to have slacked off in some respects half way through the season,
perhaps they thought they could just coast along because they have been reading
their own press clippings and looking at their ranking.Go Utes.
If that were only the last game of the season.BYU has lost before
and we fans end up OK.Utah is over rated. They will lose to TCU,
BYU, and possibly their usually bad game to a weaker team in the middle third...
(CSU comes to mind, maybe New Mexico.)If TCU slips up, BYU and TCU
can end up tied for first, and Utah will end up third again.Enjoy
the blue sky and the bird chirping.
Dont judge a team by one game. Utes remember your shut out last year against
UNLV. Some nights teams just look horrible. BYU wasn't prepared and didn't make
any adjustments last night, but it doesn't mean they arent a good(good not
great) team, Florida lost to Ole Miss at home, USC to Oregon State; however,
football is mental and when you lose your toughness in a game you get
embarrassed. Cougs can still win the conference and beat the U.
Jazz did beat San Antonio by 30 in game three of the western conference finals
in 2007, but got smoked in 5 games to the eventual champs, so yeah one game is
just one game. Lets not say BYU will go winless the rest of the way or get blown
out by the Utes.
You talk it up when you kill nothern iowa and New mexico, but when you play a
team that doesn't compare to my sons pop warner team and get flattened, the
chirping stops. Come on, stick with your team through thick and thin. I enjoy
the BYU games, but I agree. The shirts and the stupid motto....you guys set
yourselfs up for this one when you climbed pride knoll. Realize that football
outside of the MWC is bigtime, and you need ATHLETES in order to win. Not just a
missionary haircut and an eagle scout award.
Sorry dude, I only went back one year. If that's selective memory, I guess I can
live with that.It sounds like you are the one with selective memory, whose
world revolves around BYU football.Actually two years is fine.
During the last two and a half seasons, only one conference loss. Skies are
blue, birds are singing...Not something Utah can say.Let
the season play out, and we can forget about selective memory. I didn't see any
Ute fans on the field last night. Any tie-in between Utah and the TCU-BYU game
The one team everyone is overlooking to bust the BCS (except me); I said Fresno
St earlier this season. They beat Rutgers & barely lost to Wisconsin.
Further, their philopsophy of playing anyone, anytime, anywhere is
the anti-thesis of that school down south. The BCS selection
committee should keep that in mind if they remain w/ only 1 loss.
Excellent game TCU. Talk about smash-mouth football. You took it to our Coogs!
BYU was fighting for every yard they got tonight and it just seemed like we
were a 1/2 second slow on every play. Recievers could not get open, Hall was
constantly pressured all night. What happend to our dump-off pass
routes? It didn't seem like they prepared for the pressure very well. Oh well,
great job TCU..you deserved that one for sure.
I think it's time that someone launch www.firecoachbronco.com. I hear USU's
Brent Guy will be available next year.
Byu Punishes they are sooo good. this means nothing they will shake it off and
come back to beat utah 37-13!
To: :| 10:30 a.m.If by losing on the road to out of conference
teams and choking in bowl games on a regular basis is what you meant by having a
national program and associated reputation, then a majority of people would
definitely agree that BYU has been quite successful in promoting these beliefs
and itself. This years beat downs of UCLA and Washington were the
exception and not the norm. Try not to blow it in the New Mexico Bowl or Armed
Forces Bowl. Again, your national reputation in this area precedes itself.

excuse.I wish I could tell the Ute fans to win with class, but the
Utes didn't play TCU last night, and the season isn't over.It is
obvious that class is a word that is not in the U of U fan handbook though. So
many classless posts because of a game that happened in Texas while the Utes
were home and tucked in.
It's annoying that Mendenhall says the loss was due to his not preparing the
team enough. He is taking too much credit for the team's success or lack
thereof. These guys have other influences than just Mendenhall. The reason
they didn't win was that they are not as good at football as the Horney Frogs.
Long ago I felt that BYU was a timebomb waiting to happen--with both TCU and
Utah respectively. It's easy to keep a 16 game winning streak going if you play
the likes of Wyoming, Utah State, and New Mexico. BYU just got weaned from
mother's milk and put on the hard stuff. It wasn't agreeable to their finicky
As a USU fan that does not like the Y I was actually rooting for them last night
becuase to have BYU and Utah undefeated come the November 22 showdown would have
been great for the state and the Mt. West Conference. TCU defense looked great
and so did their offense. Utah better be ready to play when they come to
town.Just think of this: Utah Defense vs. TCU Offense...TCU Defense
vs. Utah Offense...It will be a great matchup. If Utah is undefeated
come November 22 everyone including BYU should be rooting for Utah to win that
game so the Mt. West can get the big pay day and so the state can have some
recognition that it plays good football.

How on earth am I supposed to show my face today amongst the people I work with
- football fans or not, they are still Texan.Admitting that the
piddliest of Texas college football teams just far outclassed my alma mater is
right on par with having to lick a toilet seat, eat dirt, or remind everyone
that yes-I-still-have-an-N'Sync-poster-in-my-room. The only worse thing could be
living next door to a Utah fan.I'm so far beyond embarrassed that if
someone offered me a steaming hot bowl of regular old humiliation, I would jump
on it. I might even ask for seconds.
You are a basic BYU 'HOMER' just admit that your team is mediocre at best and
has no speed on either side of the ball. BYU will keep losing to teams that have
a fast defense and can pass the ball halfway decent. BYU will lose 2 more games
including Utah.I dont think you stird your cool aid all the way
BYU fans are not being negative, but being critical. We are educated, critical
thinkers. We understand a loss was coming some day. We just knew it
wouldn't be Utah, a team that was outgained by Wyoming. We see the
big picture. One loss in conference in two and a half season is
bearable. And, a BYU story dominated 5-1 by classless ute fans,
nothing new. Pretty much an everyday thing.Utah will lose to the two
best team in the MWC, and tie for third again. It's your place, you can do it.
really, - I am waiting for someone to tell me why ,at any game, children and
respectful ticket holders should be verbally abused at a football game anywhere
in this country. Why no comments. Why no outrage at the fact that this is only
a sporting game. Why no outrage that little children ( and it needs to be noted
TCU parents had children there as well) had to see, hear, and fear strangers in
this matter. There is no excuse for the behavior of last night at TCU. NO not
one excuse. This needs to be a wake up call to everyone that this should never
happen at any football stadium and all of you Ute and BYU fans should be the
first to take the lead and be respectful of the fans at the game on both sides.
TCU won a football game but lost in the arena of decency.
Laugh now, Utes. I'm content with having the last laugh on Nov. 22. If I were
you, I would worry about TCU, AND BYU. BYU always plays better as an underdog.
Bring it on! Go Cougars!
Before TCU, BYUs opponents had 12 wins and 26 losses. The only opponent with a
winning record was D1-AA Northern Iowa. In the Cougars first real test/game of
the season, they were exposed, humiliated and dominated. TCU surgically
dissected BYUs slooooow and lack-luster defense at will.BYU will
always struggle with and forfeit any advantage that they might have offensively
to teams with a lot of speed on defense. Utahs defense is just as good and fast
as TCUs. Expect the same, if not a little more from Utah on 11/22 if they stay
focused. However, they need to focus on CSU right now. Go Utes!!!
formally extends an invitation for BYU to play the 11th place team in the Big
12, Baylor. Congrats!
I was at both the UCLA game and TCU game last night. BYU looked as shocked as
UCLA did when we went up so early on them. We just did not show up to play.
This was not the same TCU that lost to OU and we were not the same team that
beat UCLA. That is why we play the game. It did expose a great weekness in our
passing defense.Utah will have trouble with TCU, but it will be at
Rice Eccles.Cougars will bounce back.
BYU football 2009 - Max Hall, Harvey Unga plus Tonga and Collie return. If BYU
can get some size on defense they get both TCU and Utah at home plus a heck of a
lot of motivation.
Hey Coug's, maybe you can return to the national spot light in Div II football?
Be the big fish in the tiny pond. I wonder how many BYU fans are still fully
invested in Bronco - ball??
Q EST FOR PERFE ION TCU
The MWC clearly would be better served if one of their teams goes undefeated.
Despite arguments to the contrary, a one-loss MWC or WAC team simply will not
make it to a BCS bowl. Utah is now the only possibility but it's just not going
to happen. The defeat of my poor cougs by the evil frogs was not a huge
surprise but the complete domination was nothing less than shocking. The
outcome of the BYU-Utah game is in question but TCU clearly will beat Utah (and
probably badly on Utah's home turf). There is no way (let's see -- how to put
this gently) the often mentally limited and easily rattled Brian Johnson can
guide Utah's mediocre offense to score the points needed against TCU's killer
defense. TCU goes to Vegas this year. No MWC teams will appear in a BCS bowl
game. Also, like some others posting comments here, I think that it
is possible that BYU and Utah could lose to some of the supposed "lesser" teams
in the conference as well.
BYU came into last night's game giving up only 2 sacks. A very strong, veteran,
solid offensive line was shredded by a fast, intense, overwhelming TCU. It is
not smack but a serious question to ask how Utah's o-line is going to handle
that? Utah's o-line is close to leading the nation (in a bad way) for number of
sacks given up. How in the world is Johnson going to stay upright for more than
a couple of plays in SLC? I'm not sure who I will be rooting for in that game
but I have serious doubts that Utah's o-line can come close to stopping that
rush.BYU fans - please stop talking smack about BSU. They have
dominated us and the MWC so it just adds to our negative image when we can't
manage even a bit of humility or perspective.last night reminded me
of the Hawaii game Crowton's first year. We looked like a middle school team in
comparison then and did again last night. I still haven't figured out why every
couple of years or so BYU just get's hammered. Not just loses but hammered.
Hawaii, CSU a few time on ESPN, etc
Hey , Homer Simpson -- Follow along here.. The Poisonetta bowl folks have
extended an invite to Navy already. Wake up and get the smelling salts because
if your going to post here get it right.
Congrats to TCU. After last night's game, they clearly deserve to be crowned
"King of the Mountain" (at least for now)!BYU needs to regroup and
refocus. They can still win out the rest of the season, and give those crowing
Ute fans some crow to eat when they meet at the end of the season!GO
BYU has indeed had its turn with these horned frogs. Over-rated yes, please
keep reminding us throughout the day. However, I remind the team up north. TCU
is still on your schedule.....enjoy fellas!!!!!Prediction......Johnson has the same day Hall had throwing the football.
I'm a die-hard BYU fan but since they got their tails kicked big-time, it's time
to shift gears. As I see it, Utah is in the drivers seat now. They have TCU and
BYU at home. The most important thing now is to support the team that can get
the Mountain West to a BCS bowl game. That's UTAH!!!! They are the CLASSof the Mountain West. GO UTES and coach Whittingham!!!!
It takes more courage to get out on the field rather than rattle off a bunch of
negative comments. Did you think BYU would always win every game? Over the
years, BYU has earned my respect.
Don't be so stuck up. "Yeah we lost, but we're educated, and we're
righteous, and blah, blah, blah."This is why people hate BYU - because of
the obnoxious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou fans.I wanted BYU to win,
but at least the fans will shut up a bit. Yeah you still have your championship
from last century before most of the current team was alive, and I'm sure Collie
and Harline are still open - though the pass will probably be picked or Hall
will be sacked. But at least there will be some silence... hopefully.
It is funny to see the BYU fans still talking trash.Utah is good,
and might go undefeated, but we Utah fans for the most part have not been
pounding our chest and crying for a National Championship. We have brains
that work, and we do not get caught up in crazy emotions like BYU fans do.For us Utah fans, we are watching Football, nothing more and nothing
less. We love to see our team win, but we do not go around pretending that God
cares about how we play. We accept the fact that we are not all the same
religion and we still like eachother. We do not try and explain a silly
game using divine intervention. They are just students that play football.BYU fans deserve everything they are getting on this board. If you respect others, they will respect you. It is one unchanging law in this
Why does everyone keep saying Vegas bowl, the Vegas bowl is for the MWC
Champion, so unless Utah Wins out and puts them in a BCS game, and some how the
TCU loses a couple games the Vegas bowl will be Utah or TCU, BYU is going to be
hoping to get the insight.com bowl
Two quick questions:1. Austin, does this mean TCU is now 'chosen'?
I'm curious.2. Do the cooogs fans still feel the previous WEAKEST
schedule in the nation, according to the colley matrix is a farce? Finally play
a real team and look what happens. Sad thing is, the '08 cooogs could beat the
I love all the lame Ute fans commenting on how BYU was so overrated and they
KNEW they were going to lose. Of course they ignore the fact that they were
wrong in making this same prediction for the last six games and this time they
were really smart. Okay, so I predict Utah will lose every game by three
touchdowns for the rest of the schools existence. Now every time they actually
do lose by three touchdowns I can get on here and say how smart I am. What a
joke. BYU played a terrible game on almost every front, but they're still going
to end the regular season with one or two losses and, assuming they win the
poinsetta bowl, they'll be primed for another run at the big money bowls next
year. Here's hoping Utah or TCU can win out and sneak ahead of Boise State.
Otherwise the inferior WAC will be rewarded again with another big money bowl.
Not concerned at all...Just Like USC, Due to their national
reputation, BYU will not drop to far in the polls. With a lower national
reputation it is a luxury that TCU and Utah do not have. BYU is not out of the
BCS. With 5 games left they will move up in the polls. On Sunday BYU
will end up between 20-23 in the polls.1) BYU will win out until
Utah. They'll be 10-12) TCU played well tonight, but is not the same
team on the road. Utah will beat them on 11/6 going away. TCU will be 10-2 to
end the season. They will also drop behind the defending back to back MWC champs
with the loss with.3) Boise State will not win out.4)
That leaves the Utes @ 11-0 going into BYU week (with upsets)they'll be ranked
between 5-8th in the polls.5)A nationally respected 10-1 BYU will be
ranked between 12-16 in the polls.6) BYU will beat UTAH in their own
stadium (yawn, again) Utah will drop behind the defending back to back MWC
champs with their 3rd straight loss. BYU moves back into the BCS top 12 for
Give TCU the credit and I have always liked their coach----however, and I know
hindsight is 20/20 but BYU should have ran the ball up the middle every single
time!!!! True, we may still have lost, but it would have been closer. BYU is
bigger than TCU, we should have run the ball up the middle and played physical.
When we run it up the gut, Hall can't fumble or throw a pick. TCU was better
and had more creative plays. For instant, when the TCU QB was on byu 25 yard
line and faked left, turns 180 and lobs it into corner of endzone for TD, that
is not a play I have ever seen before. As a cougar fan, I do think the Utes can
beat TCU, because the UTES can run it up the middle every time and avoid
turnovers. But if anyone tries to beat TCU on the margins, it is over, you
can't afford to even try playing their game. I think this will be blessing in
disguise though, I think BYU doesn't lose again.
To: Well Hello Utah You have got to quit drinking that water seeping out
of the old Geneva tailings ! Utah has had capacity sell out crowds of over 45 ,
ooo with a student body of half that. BYU has over 45,000 enrolled students yet
LES was only about half full with the little bad weather we had along the
Wasatch front last weekend. Don't write here with comments are nonsense-- leave
that up to your Junior High son. It seems to be a homework assingment for 7th.
Grade down there in Utah County. I had hoped for a better game out of BYU
because I want positive exposure nationally for the State schools. More exposure
that is positive can only mean that it will better for the overall recruiting. A
concept that most comment posters forget. Go Utes !
yo :"Richard | 12:15 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008 We have brains that work, and we
do not get caught up in crazy emotions like BYU fans do."Red your
Utah posts, baby, read the posts."If you respect others, they will
respect you. It is one unchanging law in this universe." Once again,
Red your Utah posts, baby, read the posts. Hey, and don't stop here, go back two
seasons and tell me that Utah deserves respect. As far as I know,
Utah had absolutely NOTHING to do with that game. Wait until the end of the
season. If Utah wins MWC conference, I will be the first to congratualate
you.All I see is a team that was classless last year against
Wyoming, classless against USU, and was out gained by Wyoming on conference. If
you do better than third in conference, I will give you Huge props.
If you think that game was bad. Wait till the Utah TCU game. Now that is going
to be UGLY. Utah does not stand a chance against TCU's defence. Thats all
there is to it. BYU is a far better team then they showed last night. I am not
going to take away the fact that they got whooped last night but... They are
still a better team than TCU and Utah.
It is fortunate that time will not allow the reading of several hundred posts.
It is unfortunate that there is such a void of character and class by those
posting comments. The facts are obvious no doubt in terms of the convincing
loss. Just the same, the mean-spirited comments are uncalled for. If those
posting them feel justified by a lack of character and class shown in the past,
then perhaps it would be appropriate to remember that two wrongs don't make a
I am a Utah fan, that only roots against BYU when they play Utah. I have come
close many times to being completely turned off by BYU players and some fans. When players or fans base their swagger on "it was meant to be" or we
win because "we are spiritually superior" it rubs people wrong.Especially when they lose to Texas Christian University.Cougar
football will rebound, but remember this is a game, not part of the gospel.
max hall is one of the most over-rated qbs in the nation and last night exposed
how is byu a better team than tcu? they lost to them last night 32-7. i would
say thats a pretty convincing win. you might have a debate if byu put up a fight
but they didnt. and byu better than utah? well we'll just have to see. and
personally i think utah matches up against tcu a little better than byu.
I agree, a one loss team to the BCS has never been done. That is why it will be
done by the originals of college football. The BYU COUGARS... Last time I heard
"it has never been done before" was in the Fall of 1984 You might be too young
to remember how that turned out. BYU is the most respected non BCS
player out there. Like a USC, TEXAS or OKLAHOMA , BYU has a title and respect.
That is why they'll still be in the top 20 after this weekends polls. I get it Ute fans, if we were Utah and lost 32-7 it would be over.BCS are you
kidding? But we aren't Utah. Just like Nationally respected USC is already back
five weeks after a loss. So Will the most Nationally respected non BCS team BYU.
I hate to tell you this Ute fan. But without the ring, you don't have respect.
Just try not to stumble and we'll see you on 11/22. We actually need
you Utes. Think about it, without an undefeated utah to step over, BYU can't
make it back. That thing you are feeling is called "conflict"Utes, enjoy the Poinsettia Bowl.
Predictions...BYU V Forida in the Sugar Bowl (Unless BYU can improve
in coverage on that "out" route Florida will win by 7-10 points)TCU
v Oregon in Las Vegas (should be a good matchup. I like TCU by 14)Utah V Navy in Poinsettia Bowl. (Utah has a good team and with Sakoda will
beat them by a field goal)It'll be a great post season for the sate
HA HA HA!!! :)
Rise and shout the cougars are OUT... of the BCS race!!!
This was a sad thing to see, however keep talking Ute Fans, your turn is coming
in a few weeks, TCU is going to let one loose on you too I am afraid, you don't
even have an offense! BYU does and look what happened to them! TCU is for
real!!! BYU can either lie down and quit, or get back to work, they
have a very good team, and TCU showed who they were last night, we'll take your
rotten eggs Utah fans, but redemption is nigh at hand my friendly foes! TCU will
dismantle you, then the Holy War will be for the runner up of the Mountain West
and who gets the next best Bowl bid!Neither of us will be playing on New Year's
Yeh I know, the nay sayers are having a field day today. Don't put a fork in
the Cougars just yet, though. Before the season, I read the Cougs might still
be able to get to a BCS Bowl with 1 loss due to the BCS trying to at least
appear like they're being fair to mid-majors. The Cougs just ran into a team
that had been licking their chops over this one for two years. Score one for
TCU, but I'll bet after 10 years the Cougs will be leading the series. BTW, not
all of us BYU fans are self righteous. There's good and bad in every segment of
Hmmmmm..... It's about time the nation sees that BYU doesn't even belong in the
top 25. I've never seen a team play as terrible as BYU did last night. How
EMBARRASSING! Not a chance will they even get to Vegas. Not a prayer... not even
for your Collie.
Oh so with your logic BYU and Utah were supposed to play TCU at the same time?
BYU fans never think anything through the just pray it will all work out.
Seriously? You're deluded enough to think byu can still go to a BCS
bowl game?At least you byu fans are consistent...
Come on faithless, Joseph Smith battled greater odds to bring forth the
restoration of the gospel. I know we can win a national title. Keep the faith.
You should be a comedian with comments like those. Do you really think your
Kewgs have a shot at the BCS? Why, because they looked so good and played a
close game last night... I want whatever you are smoking. They were thoroughly
dominated and outcoached on both sides of the ball!!The UTES have
the speed to match up with TCU plus we play them at home. As for the Nov. 22nd
match up after last night I'm not concerned at all. Enjoy watching
the UTES play in yet another BCS bowl game.
a lot of people want to bash BYU for last nights game. I, being a ute fan,
defintely agree that they did look piss poor at times... actually almost the
entire game. Anyone that wants to argue hall is a top qb just got smacked in the
face last night. And you guys said heisman... ha ha.On the other side, TCU
looked really really really good. There was a lot of emotion and they played
extremly well. I am glad utah does not have to go there this year. Two big
games left for Utah (byu and tcu) both at home. however, nobody in this
conference can be overlooked.an undefeated holy war would have been nice,
but the words "i told you so" never felt so good to say.bye bye BYU
Prediction:The cloud of despair that now hangs over BYU fans who had their
hearts set on perfection will just barely start to fade away in time for a
demoralizing defeat at the hands of Utah in November. Cougar fans
are already plotting a perfect rest-of-the-season and fantasizing that it will
still be enough to squeak into a BCS bowl. So I'm curious, is the new team motto
"The Quest for Near-Perfection" or "Nobody's Perfect We All Fall Short" Remember your emotions in '04 when you witnessed Utah in a BCS game and
wondered why it couldn't be the Lord's school instead? Well here we go again...
Utah will now either lose to TCU or BYU at the end of the year for sure paving
the way for Boise State to again claim the spot in the BCS. Looks good for the
Broncos, that is for sure.
You think that BYU fans are the ones always bringning up 1984? I think that is
actually the Utes bringing it up about how it is history and it doesn't matter.
In the same posts you are often mentioning that we haven't made it to the BCS
like you have (history?). Well remember the Bowl Alliance and BCS were invented
(re-incarnated/modified) because they specifically wanted to keep BYU (and 1984)
out and their monopolistic cronies in. So your one monumental event in football
(history) is an accomplishment only because a system was created because of BYU
(you're welcome). Last I checked Utah didn't cause the national championship to
be created. And their national championship was not a singular fluke in one
poll. All of these polls that year selected them as the NC (AP, CFRA, FWAA,
NCF, NFF, UPI, USAT/CNN) and these computer rankings (BR, PS, SR). 3 other
polls did select different teams by small margins.I've asked this
before, who will be remembered through out history more; the person that
invented the car or the first one to drive it?TCU dominated the
trenches beyond belief last night! Learn from mistakes and progress Cougars,
As a big coug fan, I'm still rooting for the cougs. They came out flat and TCU
was ready to take it to 'em. They did and it showed. Maybe this is what we
needed to get the cougs playing the way they did against UCLA and Wyoming. Now
that we're "underdogs," the season still goes on, the sun will still come up,
and they still have work to do. Good luck to Utah to win it out and we'll meet
up at the end of the season. Now we can start another winning streak.
I'm thinking everyone on this board, including me, ought to get back to work!
the vegas bowl cougs!
500+ comments on the loser cooogs. ha!
Perfection of the season is now unattainable, however, BYU can and will have a
"perfect" record for the remainder of the season. Watch out Utes! Now that a
BCS game is out of the picture for BYU, beating you for the MWC can be their new
focus. Oh ya, you've got to cooperate by beating that monster of a team TCU,
okay? Go Cougs!
BYU played like they have every other game. Only this time against a good team.
In the glory days, BYU used short drops to their backs. Max Hall dropped back
and waited to be tackled. HORRIBLE execution. They set the MWC back a decade.
Their coach was totally outcoached.
First Washington, then Utah State exposed BYU's very slow team speed. TCU is
way more athletic than BYU and it showed big time. I said all along that the
defensive secondary could not stop a good passer. Now, it is clear that the BYU
passing game cannot compete with speed in the opposing teams secondary. BYU
will be lucky to get past UNLV, let alone Utah. I guess the Utes will have to
show their stuff to the Frogs, now that the Cougs are done. The curtain is
closed on the big stage game in November 22. Now, that TCU got spanked by OU,
the whole MWC is a joke.
TCU is completely underrated. They just underestimated OU. They should be
ranked in the top ten next week, just ahead of USC.
re:Enjoy | 2:08 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008 the vegas bowl cougs! If
Utah loses to BYU and TCU, pos. New Mexico, and I haven't caught the score on
the CSU game yet, which no name bowl will Utah play in again.Outgaind offensively by Wyoming?Yep, you will do well against TCU
and BYU.What will that do to your blue skies and chirping birds?
I guess BYU now feels what Utah felt last year after getting smacked by
UNLV...oh, wait...maybe not because TCU is actually a very good football team,
unlike UNLV last year. Nevermind, I suppose BYU still doesn't know what Utah
felt like last year.
I actually don't remember who invented the car either... does anyone know that
without looking it up?Neither Utah or BYU have looked like BCS
busting teams this year, BYU just got exposed first. Until Ludwig gets a clue
and Johnson learns to just check two receivers and then run instead of pitching
a tent in the pocket Utah will need the defense and special teams and unbridled
luck to help them win their games.
To Believe:Dude you gotta be kidding me! I'm not a BYU by any means. But
I am LDS. I think the fact that you're comparing BYU football to what The
Prophet did and went through is a freaking joke. I take that as an insult quite
personally. I'm at a loss for words, but you should be ashamed of yourself for
Now the QUEST FOR PERFECTION belongs to Utah. Maybe we will get to play on the
National Stage?? Utah against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Sounds good to me!!!
Haha I am so glad BYU lost. All my brothers and sisters (and all other BYU
fans) were in stunned silence. Man I am one happy man. :) I just hope Utah beats
BYU so their faces will drop again in stunned silence. Then they can slowly
think of another motto for next season. Like "The Quest For Perfection, This
Time It's Gonna Happen." Then they will blame the refs and think of other stupid
reasons for losing. I know not all BYU fans are like that but alot are. Maybe
they will be glad to go to the Vegas Bowl. Who do they have on their schedule
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"Just for fun, tell me that BYU is NOT
the team that all utes are obsessed with.I agree, we were due for a
loss. Three straight undefeated in conference is difficult. Why don't you little
Utes try for two. There were no excuses in that game.Bronco is right, it was his fault, he's the coach. What did you guys want him
to do? Blame the players.TCU is a good team, they deserve
respect. If you get through the season with a win over TCU (you can
dream), and without your usual flop against a lower tier MWC team (Last year,
New Mexico, AFA), a loss to BYU will will create a three way tie.If
you lose to TCU and BYU, you will once again be in third, where Utah has usually
ended up.Keep your HAHAHAHAHAHAHA in your pockets until 11/22, whip
out those tattered old sweatshirts urban told you to buy, and get ready for
Sustained Silence... I was there in RES 2 years ago.chirp, chirp.
To you short sighted UTE Fans who love to gloat over this Y loss: the best shot
YOUR "over rated team" team will have to cut into the BCS was contingent on the
November game against THE two unbeaten MWC teams. Get over yourselves and quite
trying to look and sound intelligent - it doesn't work with you.. GO RAMS!!!!!!
BUMMER!! Ah, well. Every great team has to lose sometime. Happens to the very
best of us. TCU, however, should live and sleep in fear 'till the next BYU/TCU
game. Nightmares galore! BYU will massacre TCU hard next year at Edwards
"this is awesome | 2:19 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008 500+ comments on the loser
cooogs. ha!"Win or lose, it's the same. When BYU wins, Ute fans
flood the boards. And then you blame BYU, for thinking the Universe
revolves around them.Well, the day you Ute fans quit orbiting BYU,
maybe that will change. You are the ones that are doing all the posting for the
last two and 1/2 years. When you start becoming Utah fans, and quit
worrying about BYU, maybe that will change.Until then, your are
planets caught in the revolution around the BYU Sun.It's your call.
what you said makes me want to hurt myself
That really was a disappointing game yesterday, but at least we lost to a very
good team. From the quotes I saw before the game, the players were aware that
this would not be an easy game, and were not counting on a win. Anyone who has
participated in sports knows that you have bad days and good days. I think our
football team has shown that we have been very good some days, but last night
was definitely not one of those. BYU fans need to get back behind the team and
support them the rest of the season, because I'm sure they are beating
themselves up enough and know they have some work to do to finish strong. We
won't be undefeated this season anymore, but that doesn't mean we have to bail
ship and give up hopes on a successful season. Go Cougars!
I have to admit that it was a treat to see "The Band of Brothers" look more like
"The Band of Sisters" last night but there is no reason to rub it in their face
anymore. They lost, we are happy, now lets move on and talk about Colorado
State and the other tough games ahead. Utahs BCS bid is still alive.....
Lets get behind them and focus on that.
The headline should read, "Cougar Fans Finally Shut Up!"
Couldn't have been put better! You all thought 500+ posts on here was
big...come check out the DesNews on 11/23 for 1000+ posts after Utah is again
sent packing to the Poinsettia Bowl after losing to BYU in Lavell Edwards
Stadium - North.
Are you serious? You people are really putting your program on the same level
as USC or Oklahoma? That's insane. No way will BYU get in Top 12 with one
loss. You honestly believe that before this game BYU was better than say
Georgia because Georgia lost to Alabama? Thank God BYU. Maybe He does care
about humanity afterall.
If Utah wins the Mountain West this year then we'll give you some respect. BYU's
chances have been severely hurt but it's not over. Mark my words... Utah will
lose to TCU.
I have a bunch of these "quest for perfection" t-shirts for sale. They are
fairly new (worn only 5 times) and the best part about them, they changed from
blue to red last night. Get them while they are hot.
I am a fellow die hard, and as a die hard I have to warn Utah fans. The
Utes look good but they could lose on any given day, so lets leave BCS out of
this and focus on CSU, New Mexico, TCU, SDSU, and BYU. There are five
games left and Utah needs to play well in all five in order to win.GO Utes!!!
Thats the best comment I have ever seen on this board!!! Sums up why I and
so many others root against BYU no matter what the situation.
first of all ereyone losses and good things do come to an end tcu had a very
good defense very fast that just shows you how the spread does against a fast
defense not well but everyone losses every once in a while we will just see on
november 22 i still think Byu is gonna take it.
Look at the teams that are consistently the upper echelon of the Non BCS teams:
Boise St.,BYU,TCU,Utah. Of those teams, BYU lacks a real program defining win.
BSU beat OU, TCU beat OU (on the road), Utah in the big house(none of the wins
in 2004 carry the same recognition, bc the lousy Pitt team they played in the
Fiesta). The last win that I can recall was beating Notre Dame on the road in
1994. Byu needs to improve scheduling. BYU has had a good run record wise over
the last 3 years, but not one of their wins fits a program defining win. All of
the teams in the MWC have been flawed over the last 3 years, good, but flawed.
BYU was simply the better of the flawed the last 2 years. But the national
polls this year were based more on record over the last 2 years than any real
analysis of their wins to date, therefore the "paper tiger" charge is
accurate. If anyone can name a win that fits this category, my memory
isn't perfect, please post it here and we can discussJarid in Cedar
Good luck, Utes. I sincerely hope you go undefeated and get a BCS berth.
BYU got exposed for the decent team with an extremely weak schedule that it is.
I love the Cougars, but I need them to schedule nothing but crappy teams from
now on so taht I can enjoy an undefeated season. The best thing to come form
this may be that Austin Collie might shut his mouth. He's an awesome receiver,
but his comments are some of the most annoying I've ever come across. BYU pride
lost this one. It's funny that the COUGS were saying they deserved a BCS
bowl--if they played OKLAHOMA they would have lost by 70.
Last night was better than Christmas!! What better present can you ask for
than to go to work, and hear nothing but silence? No Self Righteous "Quest
for Perfection" talk. No talk of how Max Hall should be the front runner
for the Heisman. No complaining of how BYU's #8 ranking should be higher.
No talk of how "Great a guy Bronco is". No comparrisons of how much
better BYU is than USC.Nothing but silence today.......... MERRY
"Re: Wow, Utes win it all | 11:24 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008 You are a basic BYU
'HOMER' just admit that your team is mediocre at best and has no speed on either
side of the ball. BYU will keep losing to teams that have a fast defense and can
pass the ball halfway decent. BYU will lose 2 more games including Utah."Hey there Bro, why would I admit BYU is mediocre? They lost a
conference game. And....?They have lost before, just this is the
first time in the past 2 1/2 seasons. No reason to cry in the milk, or throw in
the towell. Ute fans might lean toward that fair weather fan mentality, but BYU
fan won't cut a run after one game. After TCU beats Utah, and BYU
beats Utah, we'll be tied for first in MWC, and Utah will be in third. Why admit mediocrity? Mediocrity would be finishing third in conference. If
we do that, I'll be backing you up there on-hundred percent. If Utah
finished third, I would expect the same from U.Keep thumping your
chest for something you have not done. BYU just doesn' have the U's loser
Sorry Cougs. What's really funny is that Utah thinks they're going to win out
with some of the pathetic play they've had thus far. You guys should be
thankful you have King Louis. Without him your "quest" would have been done
before now. What you probably haven't considered much, Ute fan, is that you
have to beat both TCU and BYU in your "quest" and that will be a tall order. After you all get done beating each other (I'm hoping for Utah to beat
TCU and BYU to beat Utah) you'll all be home watching my Broncos in the BCS!Course, what would be really funny is to see CSU take the Utes down this
re:"RE Davidutefan | 3:19 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008 Thats the best comment I have
ever seen on this board!!! Sums up why I and so many others root against
BYU no matter what the situation."And as long as you root against a
storied winning program, you will continue to wallow in self hate and self pity,
except for that one game that comes around every 2-3 years that make the birds
sing, and the sky blue.Otherwise you could just root for Utah. But,
then you will most always be just disappointed most of the time.Just
remember, last night was all TCU, not Utah. You kids still need to
make up for the last two years.
I think it is so ridiculous how much of the energy in these comments go between
BYU and Utah fans who flip unintelligent hate-speak back and forth to each
other. You Mountain Westerners are so dumb. . . you ought to be LOVING watching
each other win, except when you play each other. Utah should be so
disappointed that they won't have the chance to play a top-5 ranked BYU team in
November and BYU should be cheering on the Utes and hoping they don't lose to
TCU (or others) until that big end-of-the-season game. Don't you two see? Only
if the Utes beat the best defensive team in the country (TCU . . . well-deserved
rank) does BYU stand a chance (a tough game for both, but each a chance) to beat
Utah who will then be a top-10 team and vault themselves back up into
discussion. And for the S.O.S., you better both hope that TCU and Air Force do
well too.Cheer for the other teams as a CONFERENCE and be proud of
an exceptional CONFERENCE you're becoming. Save the petty trash-talk
for the week you two actually play each other.
OK everyone...take it easy...Remember we've got church on Sunday!

would dictate for Utah to be better than BYU, they would have to beat them.I would guess that is why the urgent need to get all of their "ya-yas"
out today, because delusional trips only last about twenty-four hours.
Was there at TCU too. The unsportsmanlike conduct directed to fans of BYU was
sick. I did not here one BYU person respond back. Remember that most of us are
alumni, older and married. It was terrible what was said to ordinary Texans who
just happened to have gone to BYU and not a Texas school. Even at the BYU
tailgate party, we had to endure college students parking as close as possible,
even though the attendants had asked them not to. They pulled out their beer,
cigars, and put on loud music right next to the table and chairs where families
were sitting. The families ignored them respectfully but TCU students were rude,
swore loudly and made a complete embarassment of their school. We were treated
badly by TCU all night long at the food stands and in the walk areas. Taunting
and swearing at BYU fans were heard by us as we left too.
That's funny. Apparantly, you don't remember how easy it was to get a ticket at
LES when Crowton was coach. I had no problem getting a ticket even to the 3-0
snow bowl win by Utah. Try getting a ticket to RES on 11/22. Winning teams get
bigger crowds (even in Provo). I haven't missed a Ute home game in 14 years.

I am disappointed that TDS and Utah will not match up undefeated however, if
you're expecting me to cry in my beer because they lost, no can do. I still
don't like them
First of all, what a bad loss for the whole conference. TCU got rolled by
Oklahoma in a similar fashion that the Frogs destroyed BYU. When the conference
favorite gets crushed by a team that was blow out by the big boys it just makes
all the early season hype of National Championships, BCS bowl games, and being
able to hang look silly. I hope Utah doesn't run the table because they will end
up looking as silly as Hawaii last year. They are not like the '04 team.Next is, this may be a foreshadowing of things to come. Look at any
recruiting website and TCU is pulling close to a top 25 recruiting class. They
are in the heart of the high school football Mecca of Texas. BYU and Utah had
better be prepared because a conference championship is going to be more
difficult in the future.
B C SB.oy the C.ougars are S..low.......................Its all about matchups. One person's TCU is another teams UNLV.I love the Cougar lovers that try to paint everything in broad
strokes. What a great year for college football. ONe day your up and
next day you can be way down just look at Georgia. All I know this
weekend is that Utah will romp on CSU (the timing and motivation are right).
There is an excellent chance that MSU will beat OSU, TEXAS will beat MIZZ, The
War Kittens have already lost, so Utah will be 7-9 in the first BCS poll. It
will a fun time for them to prepare with a week off, for New Mexico, and the
short week in front of the TCU game. The timing is perfect. And Whit always
comes off a bye with improvement.The Truth:TCU @ Utah:
Road Game, altitude, lack of hatred they feel for BYU. Also, short week to
prepare after UNLV road game.Utah: Home game, 2 weeks prior to UNM to
prepare, comming off a big road win (after bye), and possible 5-7 ranking. Utah
should play lights out.Go Utes!!!!
I love unrestrained optimism, especially about my beloved BYU, but there is a
greater chance that the pope will have a 100-foot statue of the angel Moroni
erected in Vatican City than there is of a one-loss BYU team going to a BCS bowl
Did TCU just move to Ft. Worth? I thought they were already in the heart of the
high school football Mecca. They have a good program but, I don't think anyone
will mistake them for the Longhorns. Being in Texas has helped them win what? 1
Did that guy say anything about Utah being better than BYU? Nope.Since when did our lives revolve around BYU?...... Was it when Dick

Why are we hearing from so many Boise State/WAC fans on this forum? ...leads me
to believe we're dealing a Jan Brady complex. What gives?I dont
care what your record is against BYU or Utah. Our schools are the Big Game on
your schedule; your school is just another team on a more difficult schedule.
Youve caught some of our worst teams sleepingthats it.Heres the
clincher if you insist on embracing your deluded state: Do you actually think
BYU, Utah or TCU (or any of the MWC teams for that matter) would accept an
invitation to the WAC? On the other hand, how many times has your AD gone
public, declaring that BS is interested in moving to the MWC?Here in
the MWC, we know our place. Even though weve performed well against the PAC-10
this year, no reasonable, sane fan would claim we have a better conference. BS fans: Wake up. Grow up.
Now BSU can go BCS bowling again. If not the BCS, maybe they will get to smash
the Utes again in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Thanks for the help BYU.Signed:The Boise State Broncos
Thanks for the concern."Try getting a ticket to RES on 11/22."I have my tickets, but aren't you just the sweetheart. I have
connections. I'll try to wave back up to you.I enjoyed the
deaftening silence of RES. You remember, the last time BYU played there. I won't

sweet, sweet silence.Especially down front.

Isn't it funny how UTE fans call out BYU fans, call them arrogant, slap them in
the face, calling them whiners, has anyone read the postings? Sounds like UTE
fans are exactly identical, only difference is the religous preference between
the two. BYU has one, Utah does not. I sure don't see any difference. Again, it
will be fun blogging when Utah loses. I don't want to see it but, what goes

BYU will keep living right and win out. Boise State and Utah will both lose a
game or two, then BYU's 10-1 record will propel them into a BCS bowl. GO
Our Cougars finally got the message after hearing it week after week for eight
weeks. Football just isn't that important. After God, comes
church, fireside chats, education, family, friends and maybe than we can
consider that football might be inportant. The offensive live that
allowed all of those sacks showed that football just wasn't a top priority. So did the guy that was once on the Heisman watch show how far How about the defense that allowed all of those touchdowns and first downs.
They remembered what they have been told week after week for 8 weeks or so,
football isn't that important. It just happens that TCU ranked
football, under God but at the top of the list along with church family,
friends, education. The difference between the two universities
showed last night at TCU.I cry a bit for our Cougars and for our
football fans that had such high hopes. We had all the weapons but we didn't
read the manual on how to use them last night at TCU,.

It's all right, dude. Usually BYU fans start crowing about how superior their

100 years or whatever. And, no, my world does not revolve around BYU, although

BYU you are very lucky you are already bowl eligible because it is a downward

Since when was the "Quest for Perfection" about having an undefeated season? It
is a QUEST - to better themselves on and off the field. Isn't it about
recognizing and trying to reach your potential? Even if they had an undefeated
season and went to a BCS bowl game... would that be "Perfection"??? Probably
not! Even losing to TCU does not destroy or end their quest. To do our best is
always fair game. If we fall we don't just stay on the ground because we failed
a goal... nope, we get back up and do it again. I'm a TCU fan and I even

Like Utah hates BYU. College football rivalry is GREAT!!! What a diversion
from reality and the end of days. For everyone knows, we will play football
until the very end. Our unified hatred will be our only source of sanity, in a
world gone MAD !!!
Laugh all you want Utah. You will go down this weekend, to TCU and BYU. That
would put you 3rd in the conference. Maybe the Humanitarian Bowlif your lucky
All of us Ute fans have to be careful sending out all this hatred so fast.
There is plenty of football to be played. CSU is starting to play well (they
kept it close vs TCU), New Mexico causes the Utes problems and there's still TCU
and BYU to be played. So....The fact is TCU clobbered BYU which
makes the MWC look weak. Since the MWC is winless against the Big-12, and OU
smashed TCU, after last night it would only appear now that the Big-12 would
more likely have 4-5 teams that are better than our champion--even if they are
an undefeated Utes team. Geez 32-7? Blowout. Not good for the conference
overall, I say. Certainly not the 11/22 showdown.
Wow! I'm so thrilled to see that people have SO much free time on their hands to
go and bash people endlessly over the Internet over a football game. 12 pages of
comments, and I'm sure I'm going to be ridiculed for my comments too. Yes, I'm a
Cougar fan and proud to admit it, but this folks, is simply overkill. You go and
seriously make mountains out of molehills. Where the heck are the priorities in
life??? Family, Church, work, etc... Here in Alberta, we have OUR
rival sports teams too...Edmonton Oilers/Calgary Flames & Edmonton
Eskimos/Caglary Stampeders... I've just come to accept that if you get too
heated and too involved in a sporting contest, you're going to end up
frustrated, upset, and it just invites the spirit of contention. The rivalries
in Alberta may be slightly humorous because people take it too far, but in the
end, it's just a waste of time. Maybe we all ought to think about what's really
importatn before we overload Deseret News' server, eh?Oh, I'd like
to see BYU win the Deseret Duel in November, but it's not the end of the earth
if they do. All about perspective, people.

Adam, it is actually bad for Utah. Utah would've looked better beating a higher
ranked BYU team. Hopefully BYU will claw their way up the rankings rather than
losing hope and dropping more games. I want Utah beating a highly ranked BYU
team. I also hope TCU climbs fast in the polls so that a win will make Utah
look even better. Can't say that I'm not scared about both the TCU and BYU
games. I'm less nervous about BYU and more nervous about TCU after this game.
We have a great coach, so I expect we will be prepared. If our offense can play
solid, we should prevail!
Red vs. Blue, State vs. Church, Liberals vs Conservatives, Pro-Choice vs.
Pro-Life, Socialism vs. Capitalism, Sinners vs. Saints, Beer vs. Sprite, and so
forth......Now can you see why the rivalry exists? Football is the
only way for anyone to legally live out their disdain and incivility toward each
other....How else are we going to feel good about ourselves? I
think that is why there will always be football...
Go Cougs. We are poud of you win or lose. You are the pride of the conference. I
can't wait till we move up to a BCS conference. I hear it is soon and all these
negative commentors hear will really be whining. BYU leaves and the MWC will
drop back to I-AA. I think you complaining is just jealousy. It's pretty sad but
well I take it with a grin and the pride we have in provo. Perfection is ours
and it goes far beyond the field; our faith is evidence of that and provides us
guidence. Remember it is more than football, it is also about the LDS faith and
I am proud of that. So in the end the quest for perfection is well, perfect.
BYU played as good as they could. They finally played a team with a winning
record, and it showed. BYU never was BCS material, next year.....maybe. Utah
fans should be pissed, we needed two undefeateds to play to help the BCS ranking
of the winning team. Maybe play as a 3-4 team. Too Bad.
I'm sorry, but I consider myself a reasonable fan, and I claim that the MWC is
the better conference than the PAC 10 (this year)! 6-1 says it all! We have
three ranked teams, and they have two. There is nobody that looks real solid in
the PAC 10.
BYU has a good football team but after the bye week they seemed to have lost
their focus and fire. The road has been downhill since they played Utah State. I
am hopeful they will regain their confidence, focus and fire. Go Cougs.
Actually, I think Boise State would win one out of the three games. I think
Utah and TCU would beat them, but you never know. I'd like to think BYU could
beat them, but I could see Boise State dropping them.
B(yu=) C(hoke) S(pecialist)
You embarrassed our conference BYU. Everything that was gained this year just
went down the drain. Utah and TCU will need to continue to give us credibility
but as far as you, you are done. I will be suprised if we remain in the top 25
after this one. I would have thought Bronco would have prepared the boys better
and implemented a better game plan. This was wrong just wrong. We are better
than that performance. I just can't believe what happened I thought we would be
competing for a BCS championship, and now we will struggle to even make it to

BYU should consider itself lucky. Everyone on the planet who actually knows
something about football, knew they were over-ranked. At least they got
embarassed on a Thursday night on the Versus. Otherwise, they would have gotten
beat 63-13 by the likes of USC or Oklahoma on National TV with the whole country
watching. As it stands now, only a few sorry saps who actually watch football
on the Versus know that BYU is a PRETENDER and always has been a PRETENDER.Here's a suggestion BYU... Want to be a BCS caliber team? Then play other BCS
caliber teams and beat them. Get the Northern Iowa Jr Boys Choir off your
schedule and beat a top 25 team (when and if you ever play one).Real
college football fans don't want to see another Georgia vs Hawaii fiasco.
Everyone hates pretenders. Who are the idiots that had BYU ranked in the top 10
anyway? They should all be stripped of their voting privelage.Thank you
TCU for sparing us from Georgia vs Hawaii take 2!!
Who are all the MORON BSU fans on this site? Do you not understand you are just
like BYU! Over-rated!! Played nobody but an over-hyped Pac-10 team with a 3rd
string quarterback. TCU would beat you 45-3. Do you really think you are that
awesome because you once beat a 7 and 5 Oklahoma team because you were
successful on 34 out of 35 trick plays in one game? Get over yourselves Boise,
you are the same animal and your time for this same humbling is near.
To TCU for waking us up. Now we know what to work on. When we face the Utes
next month and a Bowl competitor in two months we will now know the type of
things to expect and be better prepared. A hard pill to swallow, but if we use
it right, one worth swallowing and moving on to better things. Rise and Shout,
I hear all of this garbage from my fellow Ute fans about how BYU didn't "uphold
their end of the bargain", as if Utah has already won out. If you think that
Utah is still the favorite to win the conference, then you are delusional. TCU
is the new favorite. Like it or not, BYU has a pretty good team, and TCU
dominated. Utah will have to play their best game of the year to win against
TCU. I just hope that the Utes can win against CSU tomorrow, considering that
CSU only lost to TCU by 6. I hoped to see an undefeated Utah team
beat an undefeated BYU as well, but I couldn't keep myself from cheering every
time TCU scored a touchdown or intercepted Hall. I just can't help myself. Go
every one neds to pipe down, wait till tcu comes to res. so long and farewell to
the ladies of spain. utah is still overrated
Just a bump in the road. Go Cougs. We are the best non-BCS school out there
hands down. We will be called to a BCS conference soon. I am amazed by all these
haters but just as the LDS relegion, if there is all this hate well by gosh it
must be true. Thank you all for stabilizing my support of the team. Go Cougs.
You haters are very very sad and probably the same who right negatively on the
LDS articles in the Dnews. Sad but I I'll take it as a sign of truth.
Perfection is not over. Perfection involves every aspect of LDS live. A loss in
football is nothing. We as LDS strive for perfection as it is the way. I think
you all need to settle down. Football is not the way but Christ our Lord is and
please remember that. Some of you are sad sad little people and just hate BYU
because we are LDS. Grow up.
I didn't bother reading all 600 comments, but based on the few that I did...Ute
nation is here in force.Very disappointed about last night. TCU was
clearly the better team and played with alot of emotion. That being
said...BYU deserved all the attention they received this year. Any team that
plays undefeated in conference two years deserves the accolades.Ute
fans I can tolerate being on here and talking smack...but Boise State trolls??
What a joke! Cougars will rebound and play well the rest of the
year. Looking forward to exacting some revenge next year in Provo. GO COUGARS!
Agree that I'd rather have TCU expose us than Utah. Hopefully we get things
together before the Utes.Georgia vs. Hawaii??? The Rainbow Warriors
were laughing ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.I don't know that we are the
best non-BCS team. Utah, Boise St, TCU and, yes, even Ball St, could be in that
argument. My beef is, "Why do we have to be?" The Pac 10, Big East and ACC
have such marginal conferences this year, they rival ours and the WAC. Why do
those conferences get to send so many teams to these BCS bowls when only one
non-BCS team gets the glass slipper? Definitely, the MWC champ this year
deserves to go, especially a one-loss BYU, TCU or Utah team...
I would MUCH rather be a Cougar Fan with a bad loss than be associated in any
way with the Yewts. We have to deal with a humiliating loss. We will
recover from this. But it doesn't change anything about my loyalty. Those crazed savages that hit the blog running with their vicious slobering
rants... Well you will always be Yewts.I get to be a proud Cougar
Fan... and ALWAYS WILL BE... Win or lose.Rather be 0-12 wearing blue
than BCS bound in Red!GO COUGS!
Tough loss for the Cougars. What I'd really like to know, though, is if the BYU
players/coaches ran a lap around the field at the end of the game, as they are
wont to do at opposing teams' stadiums.
BSU 27 Hawaii 7.. BSU 7-0 what does that mean at this point well several
millions of dollars in bowl payouts. Have fun in vegas again byu, if you lucky.
More than likley you'll end up in New Mexico, what a joke this season turned out
to be. Quest for perfection? Mission failed and know Bronco will be on a
downward spiral from here.
Regardless of the loss, Ute fans really don't have anything to gloat about.
They still have to play both BYU and TCU, and haven't looked that sharp in their
winning efforts. It never ceases to amaze me how the Ute are always ready to
pounce on a BYU loss, because in their opinion, a BYU slip up elevates Utah over
the Cougars. Time will tell. In the meantime save your comments on the
newspaper articles written about the Utes! You really endear yourselves to
anyone who may not be a Utah follower. Your glee and rejoicing will come to
naught. Let's see if you can beat CSU tomorrow.
I was very dissapointed in the game. TCU is very good. I guarentee you the same
thing will happen to UT. The Utes arent good, Michigan give me a break. They
lost to Toledo. UTah is not good. TCU will kill UTah. The Utes suck, the BYU
game against utah will not be close. BYU by 21.
I have some prime Sam Boyd Stadium tickets for the Las Vegas Bowl posted on
e-bay. Get the now while available. BYU rules.
The cougars are a much better team than they showed on Thursday night. They
played awful in every aspect of the game, from defense to moving the ball on
offense. In the locker room before my high school game today, a teammate of mine
said, "Hey, we should go play BYU, anyone could beat them if they play like they
did last night." To put it bluntly, I was disgusted in their performance, and I
am shamed to call myself a cougar fan. Hopefully they can learn something from
this and step it up in the next games. Everyone knows that they'll need to to
Why does BYU fan think that everyone who plays them are acting like it's their
superbowl? You are not a national power! I'm sure a lot of people agree. If
you think that this BYU game was more important to the TCU players than the
Oklahoma game was then you are crazy! Or taking a lot of the valume that you
I guess those losers at ESPN that Coug fans have been ripping all year long may

I am just glad this was not televised on ESPN. We have a shot at staying between

dropped from the polls completely. Lucky in this case we have this TV contract.
tcu will beat utah and it wont even matter in the end, tcu is the best team in
All those Ute fans who claim that BYU never was a Top 10 team have very short
memories. Remember the early 1990s? BYU beating #1 Miami in 1990? I remember
that game vividly, as it was the first football game I ever attended. How about
1984? How about the early 1980s, when BYU would consistantly crack the top
10?If Utah ever wins a national championship, we can talk.
Typical cougar breath talk. Still out of touch with reality.
THanks to TCU for humbling the proud. Look at the player comments. They bought
into the hype just like investment banks bought into mortgage backed secruities
and now look at the cougars, reeling just like the banks. We should all be more
humble and not create unrealistic expectations for ourselves.Lesson
Learned? I don't think so. These are fundamentalist cougars we're talking about.
As for me, I'll be a realist and say BYU loses atleast one more to
AF or to Utah.ANd by the way, I've been saying since last year that
the coach is horrible. The team wins because of their individual talents, but
not the collective force. I've been crying for his termination for some time,
maybe this is the beginning of exposing him.
Re: Anonymous 11:35 pm 10/17/2008Please spare everyone your complete

can't even sellout your stadium until BYU comes knocking. Do you
think TCU has the U game marked since January??? Nobody gets up to play the U
because Utah doesn't have a tradition of winning. Just a tradition of choking.
Nobody cares, except Wyoming. All Ute fans mocking right now would do
well to swallow their tongues, because if TCU plays half as well as they did
against BYU, Ute fans will be left to cry also. Home field won't help Utah.
Even in sticky rice stadium, TCU will make your offense look like roadkill,
while your defense will also be exposed as being what it always is: Overrated.
Too much talk by Ute fans before they play TCU. Get a clue!!!
Ha Ha Ha, we'll see. The BCS darling Boise State Broncos dazzled a national
crowd AGAIN on the blue turf last night on a real TV station! So while you Utes
are busy playing tough teams on your highly regarded Mountain Network, the
Broncos are well on their way to leap frogging you in the BCS standings. Come
back and tell us how good you are after you beat TCU and BYU. We have 1 or 2
marginal "WAC" games left to an undefeated season. And go ahead and cry about
our "trick" plays that beat Oklahoma (even though we outplayed them the entire
game) as several other NCAA teams now have followed our lead and do THE EXACT
SAME THING!!!And, come back and tell us how good you are after your
QB gets on the cover of NCAA 08.I'm just sayin, come back and tell
us how good you are after all the dust settles and Boise is on the
BYU has playedNorthern Iowa (a FCS team - formerly known as D1AA),
while you may choose to make fun of this it doesn't help demonstrate your
intellectual standing when you refer to them as Northern Illinois which is a FBS
team or D1A. Also on point N.Iowa was ranked #1 for a good part of the year in
FCS polls last year and is highly ranked this year as well. They finished last
year #4. Now ask yourself was Webber state even ranked in FCS?Next
note, if you are knocking BYU on their weak schedule don't reference us playing
a cream puff like Weber State-which was on Utah's schedule; not BYU's.Next we played the University of Washington this year and not Washington
State. While neither team is having a stellar year it doesn't help your point
here either if you are to ignorant of the NCAA landscape to know the
difference.Next it doesn't help your cause if you quote a "weak"
mutual opponent (UtahSt).Most knew that BYU was playing their
toughest opponent of the year last night. Hear me now and believe me
later...Utah still has their two toughest opponents yet to come.
I guess this is what happens when you play with your own recruits, and not
Do you really think the WAC is talked about more because they are better? How
about the fact that most ESPN/CBS broadcasters are amazed to find out this year
that BYU left the WAC 10 years ago. That whole conference is living off of what
BYU, Utah, CSU, AF, Wyoming, New Mexico & San Diego State made of that
conference before we left. How many times did Hawaii even come close to a
conference championship when these teams were there? To us dumbing
down our schedule would be playing 8 teams from the current WAC. Your
conference is living off of the past accomplishments of peole that have moved on
and has an easier shot at an undefeated season because there isn't parity in
your weak league.I'm sure if you managed to marry some widow living
in a mansion you'd think you were some how rich yourself or had arrived because
you got to drive some fancy car around at someone else's expense.I
like what was said previously...are you remembered more in history for being the
1st person to drive a car (or 2nd/3rd) or for being thoe that invented the car.
I think it's funny that the delusional Utes fans think they have the same speed
on defense as TCU and they are so quick to bash BYU after the loss. BYU is a
very good team with a quality quarterback who has a quick release. They moved
the ball well at times, but always seemed to get in 3rd and long, which is death
against the TCU pass rush.Yes, TCU will have to go on the road for a
dreaded Thursday night game. However TCU is versatile enough to win the game
with a smash mouth run game as well as through the air. Hopefully the Utes will
come into the game with that BYU undefeated swagger. If they think they are
going to run on TCU, they had better think againAs for it being a
shame that if TCU wins out, the MWC conference won't get a BCS bid, not so fast.
If TCU can win out such that their only loss is to OU, how do they not make a
BCS bowl? It will be interesting where we rank when the first poll comes out on
The Cougars have been on the decline since their bye week the end of September.
Even against a pathetic Utah State team, they only put up 34 points, and allowed
14!Since that break, they have averaged only about 21 points per
game and allowed about 16 points per game (5 point average margin). Prior to
that break they averaged 43 points per game and only allowed 11 points per game
(32 point margin). Even if you exclude Northern Iowa, the pre-break averages are
44 pts scored, 9 pts allowed for a 35 point margin!Taken together,
are we going to say that Washington, UCLA, and Wyoming are 30 points WORSE than
Utah State, New Mexico, and TCU?No, Cougar inconsistency is back
just as it was in the Crouton days, and as always, you can blame that on the
Coaching! Lavell was a legend because he was consistent. As a young coach,
Bronco lacks the personal discipline and consistency to return the Cougars to
their glory days. He is a pretender. He pretends to be "like Lavell" (he even
tries to scowl like Lavell), but he is not solid to the core. It is all an act.
Now that would be a game. Bring back Lavell so he can go head to head
again with Ronnie Mac!
TCU did have this "marked on their calendar" because BYU was to 2 time MWC
champion,a nd the perception was that this game is for the MWC title. Why would
they have targeted Utah? Because they won 3 years ago with a different coach?
BYU was clearly the second best team TCU has played this year next to OU.
Before you start crowing about how "bad" BYU is, maybe you should begin worrying
about how "good" TCU is this year. This TCU team is better then the one that
won the MWC several years back. The Utes have their 2 toughest games
left. If they go 1-1 they will have a great season. I think it is more likely
that they lose them both rather than win them both. The TCU "D" will
bring the pain. This Patterson's best defense he has ever had (and that's
saying a lot!)
Lesson Learned??? | 5:52 a.m. Oct. 18, 2008 "THanks to TCU for
humbling the proud. Lesson Learned? I don't think so. These are
fundamentalist cougars we're talking about."Sorry folks, it one
game. What is expected. We run out into the streets crying, mass
suicides, fathers leave their families? To all 600 of you posting...
it's just one game. The season is not over. The Utes did nothing but watch
Thursday Night. If you win out, great season. If TCU and BYU win
out, Utes are third again. So, we didn't learn the lesson Ute Fans
wanted, that we should roll into a ball and cry?Come on.It's a game, it's a loss.
600 + comments! It would be interesting how many comments will be posted if CSU
wins. You haters are very inspired.
I have never understood the logic from all the other teams in the conference
saying we need each other to represent and give us a pay day. Do you think
Florida is excited in the year LSU plays in a BCS game or wins the title. No,
they are kicking themselves for not doing it themselves. I have never been fond
of the notion that we should root for the other teams in our conference. If
they play an out of conference team then yes it can help the image of our league
to some respects (i.e. everyone taking note of MWC 6, PAC10 1 this year). But
BYU has never really needed to rely in the past on the likes of Utah, CSU, etc
to be noticed nationally. And I would say that if that "notice" isn't respect
then I don't know what is. So please don't tell me that I have to root for my
team to lay down at the feet of a team you are assuming will also still be
undefeated 11/22 for the good of the conference. No thanks! SEC, Big10,
Big12, etc don't lay down for one another, nice try.

all Utah fans. Maybe it's just the hate, but you are consumed by BYU, not Utah.
Utah does not inspire them. All my buddy Ute fans aren't talking smack. They
know whats ahead, and if BYU and TCU win out, Utah is tied for third. The article on the Utah game had 9 comments as of 8:15 last night.Nice job Utes to follow YOUR team.Give me a break.Oh,
and all of you happy smurfs, if two non-automatic teams qualify for BCS, they
get to choose who they want, not who is ranked higher. The smurfs are worse that
Hawaii last year, and have no room to talk about who they beat.
BSU is not a BCS caliber team, and BSU didnn't beat Oregon soundly. They beat
Oregon 37-32 and Oregon was down to their 5th string quarterback! If BSU was in
the MTN West this year, they would be in the middle of the pack losing to TCU,
BYU and UTah and COlorado State! and for your information we beat Washington not
Washington State you football know-it-all, yeah BYU got spanked, and i don't
know what they were doing between the new mexico game and the TCU game but
hey, life goes on and the Cougs found their weaknesses and they will dom. the
rest of the way.
Cry me a river. BYU loses even when they win.
640+ Comments. Wow. That's ridiculous.
As much as it pains me to cheer for the Utes, I hope they kick TCU good when
they play in a few weeks. Then if the Cougars are still a one loss team when
they travel to Salt Lake they could still earn a share of the MWC title. That
said, I don't think anyone in the MWC is equal to TCU this year. And that
includes the Utes.
When BYU has the national championships that USC, LSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame,
Miami, and Florida has then you can talk. Like I've always said, BYU and Utah
have good players but have medicore coaches in a poor conference. TCU in a good
mid level team. You guys lost to them. BYU beat UW by 1 point. Oklahoma
demolished them. When BYU can do that, then you can talk about being a good
about BYU's stellar performance against Utah State. Giving up 21 points to USU
is not a top 10 team!!!!!
Oh the pain. Gee, has anyone out there ever lost a battle in life? Maybe the
Cougars and yours truly are the only ones to know the taste of defeat. The next
few games will show what kind of character this BYU team has. Are they as good
as the UCLA win? Probably not. Are they as bad as the TCU loss? Probably not.
Lessons need to be learned. We're not athletic enough to just show up, which is
what looked like happened against TCU. More respect needs to be given to
opponents rather than just "taking care of ourselves." Take notice fair weather
fans. I'll be in the stands Sat. for the UNLV game. I'll show up to support the
Cougs. I'm curious to see what BYU team shows up. Many obitiuaries have been
written on these posts. This Cougar team still has the potential to go
The season IS over. The quest for perfection was a failure, statistically and
otherwise. BYU hasn't exuded perfection since the bye week, scores
notwithstanding.Not a snowball's chance of getting a bcs birthwith
one loss in a conference like the MTN West.
End of the season standings:1. TCU 8-0 in conference2. BYU 7-13. New Mexico 6-24. Utah 5-35. AF 4-46. Colorado St. 3-57. UNLV 2-68. SDSU 1-79. Wyoming 0-8BYU's quest for
perfection postponed.Utah's quest for mediocrity fulfilled.
Well, I find it funny how the coaches for BYU always say, the other teams are
more athletic then us.... and then don't recruit more athletic footballers so
they can be athletic also. BYU has created a habit of choking in big games and
recruiting second rate players, and we shouldn't expect anything more. Winning
is a habit, and so recruiting players from high schools with winning traditions
is also a very important aspect to change the attitudes and habits of a team
when striving for a season of perfection.
BYU is still #1........in my heart
oh BYU UUUUUUUUU, we're not your patsie anymore!!
does anyone even read these comments down here?
....ends in a Telestial Bowl bid.
the parties over ..oooh uuhh you got too!
I will always think it's pathetic that UTE fans think it is a a good thing for
BYU to lose games. Anytime that UTAH is having a good season you should want BYU
to win as many games as possible until they meet head to head. I live in the OC
and I would definitely say I want Utah and BYU to win because it represents my
home state. When they meet head to head I want BYU to win unless Utah has a BCS
chance. It is just the Utahn in me.
