I enjoyed the game...great win. Please tell me someone has suggested that the
Cougs stop shooting 3s. They've got 2 of the best bigs in the west. The
mid-range jumper at 30-40% is much better than the 3 at 17%. Come one guys, go
with what is working. I'd limit the team to 5 3-point attempts a game 'til they
hit 3-4 of those. It's not Rocket Science...
Great BYU crowd tonight in Portland. When they did the BYU chant at the end of
the game it was obvious that there were more Cougar fans than Pilot fans at the
game.Nice win but hopefully the 3pt shots will start falling soon.
Pretty much an ugly game. Could not believe the "T" they rang up on
Davies. Where was Charles?
It is great to see and read all the stories about Men sports. But would also
like to know How The Ladies are doing. What do they have to do to get space and
Can't stand fans at any level whining about "the terrible
officiating." Nonsense. Loser mentality. And BYU fans are as bad as any in
blaming officials. Now we see the shoe on the other foot with BYU getting 53
attempts from the foul line. Bet Portland whiners are blaming the officials but
my fellow BYU fans are strangely silent. Best to just keep quiet when blaming
the officials instead of terrible 3 point shooting or weak perimeter defense.
7 years straight, 20 wins! I think the man deserves a raise!
RockOn, it's obvious you did not watch the game.BYU got called for a
lot of ticky-tack, or even non-existant, stuff on the perimeter. Since many of
those were non-shooting fouls, the Pilots didn't get free throws. And when they
reached the bonus, they missed a ton of front end 1-and-1's, which is a reason
for the lesser free throw total.Portland was getting called for hard
fouls on shots near the basket that, of course, led to two shots. And BYU was
making them for the most part.Fouls were actually pretty even for
the 1st half and much of the 2nd. It was the last 10 minutes, when BYU really
started wearing out the Pilots, that the number of Portland fouls started
pulling way ahead. But the officiating was till terrible. There were
a lot of hard hits that weren't called, and a lot of incidental contact, or even
non-contact, that was. Even the announcers commented on the poor officiating by
the "inexperienced WCC referees" this season. (And yes, they did call
The WCC in my mind stands for something more like a semi-pro wrestling leauge.
Finally the refs are calling fouls unlike the efforts against St. Mary's.
This game was a prime example of how pathetic the officiating is in the WCC.
That entire Portland roster should have fouled out.....unbelievable. And who
says Davies and Hartsock are "bigs"? Bigs refers to players over
6'10" and weighing at least 260. The Cougars are missing bigs and
consistent shooters from medium range. Three point shooters they are not. This
club is going to have a tough time with the three in a row roadies of the Dons,
Broncos, and Zags later this month. Their only hope for the NCAA tournament is
a first or second place finish in Las Vegas in my humble opinion. This club is
not good at the moment.
