I completely agree with this well-written article. To pass legislation that
will further inhibit freedom of speech in order to "combat piracy", is
similar in nature to the recent legislation that was passed under the guise of
"fighting terrorism", aka the National Defense Authorization Act.
Under this legislation, the military can arrest citizens if they
"suspect" them of terrorism and hold them indefinitely with absolutely
no rights of habeus corpus. Our freedoms, which are supposed to be
protected under the Bill of Rights, have been siphoned away while we were all
busy doing other things..... It's time to wake up and Occupy our Congress and
stop the madness that has become the norm in our country.
Intellectual property must be protected. If not, newspapers, the entertainment
industry, and the publishing world is going to be destroyed. Authors and artists
have a right to protect their work. Copyright should be protected. A thief is a
thief. I don't care if he's using a crowbar or a computer. He's still a thief if
he's stealing something that doesn't legally belong to him. People are so drunk
on technology they cannot see the harm it is doing to the companies and
individuals that produce the information and entertainment they use. People want
everything free. They want massive social services. But, they don't want to pay
taxes. They want reporters gathering and distributing information. But, they
don't want to pay for the information. They want to watch movies and listen to
music. But, they don't want to pay actors and musicians for their products.
I think it's less about Hollywood and more about Corporations fleecing Artists
before they get their cut, but that's a minor detail.good article
