Unfortuantely it will be a loss by 20 plus points. Hopefully it will be a
motivation to try and get better and make a final run in the WCC. I think BYU
will have to win the WCC tourney to get into the NCAA tourney. I don't see that
happening either. Im hoping they can make it respectable against Va.
Our household would love to see BYU beat VT. However, unless the play their best
road game of the season, it's doubtful.
Va Tech just won their first game in the ACC, so if BYU loses then we know where
the WCC stands afterall....just using the BYU "comparison rule"
against all of those who use it.
Pretty big on comparative scores, eh, Magic? BYU will do doing fine. With
Syracuse and others losing this past week, don't go too long on your forecasts.
BYU is certainly better than anyone else in area code 801.
After losing to LMU, I think BYU can only afford to lose one more game, and must
be in the championship game to get invited to the dance. Of course it's
contingent on how many of the other bubble teams do also. With that
said, it will be interesting to see which BYU team shows up. If we play like we
did against Baylor, we could be undefeated the rest of the way. If we play like
we did against LMU, we'll lose to Va Tech, St Marys and Zags (2X) and find
ourselves in the NIT.Yes, Va Tech is near the bottom of the ACC, but
this is a conference that will likely get 6 invites to the dance. Va Tech would
be in the top half of any conference in the West.Davies and Hartsock
seem to have found their grove. The guards and wings must show up if we are
have a chance at winning the next three games. I hate to say it, but this team
has not been quite the same since Rogers went out. He was the important 6th man
that always seemed to add an extra spark.
@MagicI don't think the "comparison rule" is a byu thing, after
all don't we see a large number of utah fans comparing their miserable season to
BYU's 1 win season back in '96?
BYU should do well versus Virginia Tech. The thing that has been hurting them
is the latest stretch of 4 games in 8 days, coupled with the unavailability of
Rogers for most of the season; they are eradic on 3 point shooting (too much
dribbling down the court and firing up 3 pointers, when they are cold), and they
cannot matchup with athletic bigs on other teams. They are undersized and
cannot intimidate other teams. They do silly things pushing the ball and
turning it over. They need to be more disciplined on both ends of the floor.
My sense is they are need someone on the sidelines on their coaching staff that
make some impact on game strategy. The team seems to get caught up in a
negative way with respect to the stretches of adversity that have occurred
during tough games. Davis does not make good decisions about kicking the ball
out to open shooters. The bottom line, with their seeming problem about playing
games in crackerboxes is their propensity to come out cold at the beginning of
games. If they can clean up some of these issues, I think that can finish the
season strong. Go Cougars.
Good luck to the Cougs. A win in ACC country would do wonders for their NCAA
should be an easy contest. WV is 1-4 in last five games, only scored 47 points
in their win, last in their conference and ranked 102. A win won't help much in
tourney selection and seeding but a loss would hurt so they had better win.
Passion Cougars, Passion. I hope that when they play Va Tech they bring some
passion and nastiness to the ACC. They should win this game.....if they play
with some fire. Watching this continual nonchalant effort is frustrating to say
the least. That game against LMU was essentially a game that LMU
wanted more. It looked like BYU was continuing to try to win the sportsmanship
award or something. C'mon Cougs, take it to Tech, and then right
the record against St. Mary's!!
BYU's strength needs to be an effective inside out game in order to force
defenders to defend the long ball. Otherwise, opponents can double and triple
team BYUs big men and effectively shut their offense down. Got to have some
better shooting from the guards to open up the interior!
re: flatlanderI'm not sure where you're getting your information.
First, BYU plays Va Tech, not WV. Second, Va Tech is ranked 52 by Sagarin.
Third, Va Tech is ranked ahead of several ACC teams. Fourth, a win on the road
in ACC country would really help BYUs tournament resume.
there yall go usin that sagarin rankings again to give the teams yall play the
benefit of the doubt. and they're actually not ranked ahead of several acc teams
they are ranked ahead of ONE acc team. "I'm not sure where you're getting
your information." same goes for you. "last in their conference and
ranked 102." actually according to the espn ranking that 102 stands firm
and correct. orry nice try on the spin.
i stand corrected. they are ranked 68 in espn rankings
I think you guys are giving VT too much credit. Sure, they're an ACC school,
and have good athletes, but this is not a good team. BYU *should* be able to
beat them, provided they don't go ice cold like they did against LMU. VT has no
bigs to speak of. They take up space, but don't score. Hartsock and Davies,
with Austin coming off the bench, should have a good day. VT does like to run,
and are athletic, so it should be an exciting game, unless Coach Greenberg
decides to try to slow the game down for some reason. VT is a perimeter
oriented team, and loves to shoot outside. The top scorers are Hudson and
Green, at 16 and 11 ppg respectively. They do have a guy, Jarrell Eddie, who is
about the same size as Zylstra, and loves the 3. He shoots about 50%, too. If
BYU's perimeter defense is sound, BYU should win this game.
"don't we see a large number of utah fans comparing their miserable season
to BYU's 1 win season back in '96?"Griz:No reason
for comparison, as the Utes' season plainly won't get that bad.
at Griz:Both BYU and Utah play the "comparison game",
especially when they feel that they are the little guy that is as good as the
big guy. Also this just in: I am not a graduate of either school, so thanks
for the troll judgement....lol.I saw the VT versus Uva game and BYU
will have their hands full. Just saying that VA Tech is no Duke at 1-4 in the
Here is hoping that Noah can get 10 more blocks to move ahead of Russ!! Go get
the Hokies cougs. Play with a little more fire!!
The coug's look very comfortable in the WCC. NIT here we come.
BYU will have to play better than they did against LMU and Pepperdine to knock
off the Hokies on the road, but I think they're capable of doing just that. The
Cougars don't have to have lights out shooting from 3pt, but if they can hit
their 40% average, it'll help open the middle for Davies and Hartsock.
Coug in TexasWhat did you mean when you said your players are in a
grove? Did you mean groove?
