I heard one political pundit who said that the reason he couldn't catch on was
not due to his policies, which are overall as conservative as anyone else's. It
is because when he talks he sounds like NPR, not Fox News.
What is sad to me is that Huntsman never had a chance. It is sad that
he was criticized for accepting Obamas request to be the Ambassador to China.
Why is that a negative?I also feel that Huntsman was panned by the
GOP base because he- embraced Science and took a common sense
approach- refused to pander to those who want someone to bash EVERYTHING
to do with the Democrats.- realized and stated that Obama was a
decent Human being - would not take the hard right positions on any and
everythingWe will never get anywhere in this country by being so
politically divided. We need our politicians to work together and embrace
ALL reasonable ideas, not just those of our own party. Why is this so
tough for many to see (on both sides of the political spectrum)?
Well done Jon? You got your ego massaged and spent other peoples money. Oh did
you find out you are a Mormon?
Jon Huntsman can leave the stage with his head held high. Thank you, Jon (and
your family) for all you've done and all that you're going to do. I hope to see
your name amongst the choices next time around.
Would that Romney had acquitted himself so well during this campaign. What bee
flew up your pants mohokat?
The thing to remember is that Huntsman didn't win with the GOP, who have
been taken hostage by the lunatic fringe who are a very vocal minority.Watch GOP leaders Mitch McConnell and Jon Bohener, it's sad ti watch
them struggle daily keeping the nuts from taking over the nuthouse. And we wonder why Congress only has a 14% approval rating! The
truth is....Huntsman resonated with 75% of America - who are the vast
silent minorty, Independant, and not Party afflianted.Huntsman was
running to be the President of the UNITED States of America. The GOP
Tea-Party has lost touch and have become focused on electing an ideological
President of the DIVIDED States of America.
Thanks for giving us something to hope for, someone who puts America ahead of
silly partisan slogans and empty headed promises.
Mohokat: What does Mormon anything have to do with this? What an ugly thing to
say to someone.I think Jon Huntsman established himself as a viable
Huntsman was a fantastic candidate. What does it say about the GOP that they so
thoroughly rejected him?
Jon Huntsman 2016!
@ opinion When Huntsman first started this dog and pony show he could not or
would not admit he was LDS.@ Mike The above answer to opinion plus
he said he would not spend any of his own money on his campaign. Another other
peoples money guy. I don't like him. OK nuff said!
This article's adulation of Jon Huntsman has no basis in fact.If
this paper were to obtain the facts about Senior's political contributions to
both the Republican and Democratic parties and to Junior's most recent campaign
in New Hampshire, it would find clear correlation between the father's
contributions and the son's appointments to political office. All of
Junior's so called accomplishments in life are due to Senior's contributions to
political parties. And all of those contributions were given with the intent to
get Junior appointed to political positions for which he is not qualified and
which he could not obtain without his father's money.
Anybody who's campaign makes a racist video and blames it on another candidate
deserves no respect. I guess he would endorse a mad dictator like Romney over
someone who will restore America who has become a facist regime.
At least Jon boy didn't come in very last, Cain and Bachman lead the losers in
this race. Jon boy won't ever make a viable Republican candidate, he is more
suited to running as Obama's vp.
Jon Huntsman was the ONLY GOP candidate who did not sign the pledge to support
traditional marriage in America. This fact, along with his comments regarding
'hybrid Mormonism' made me feel unsure about what he really believed, and in
what direction he would take this country if elected. Unless he can
remake his image it is unlikely that he will be able to launch a successful bid
as a GOP candidate in 2016, IMHO.He makes a good ambassador to
@LDS Liberal"The truth is....Huntsman resonated with 75% of
America - who are the vast silent minorty, Independant, and not Party
afflianted"Given how low a percentage of republicans he got to
vote for him in the primaries that statement is false on its face.
Well done? I guess anyone can throw their hat in the ring, appear on some nat'l
shows & sponsor come "community forums". This guy garnered a
whopping 4% nat'l rating and was someone whose nat'l platform and agenda never
got off the ground. He never connected with the GOP populace."Huntsman said the personal attacks are not worthy of the American people
and not worthy of this critical time in our nation's history. The candidates
should instead talk directly to the American people about their ideas." I agree that such GOP infighting does nothing to strengthen the party
and put their sole aim on the "incumbent in the office", but let's not
be so naive. Huntsman was doing more than his fair share of mudslinging. But now
that he's out such personal attacks are not worthy. Sorry, folks. Didn't see any
leadership in this one from the time he announced his candidacy. It's all about
electability, and he simply didnt have it & never got it. Ticket to ride,
A third place finish in the New Hampshire primay after campaigning there full
time is hardly reason to consider Mr. Huntsman serious contender for a
presidential nomination. He never rose single digits in any national polls as a
contender for the nomination, and never gather large contributions from a broad
spectrum of the electorate. The best action of his campaign was to leave the
race early before suffering a very poor showing in So. Carolina, which I am sure
his polling indicated would be the case. Dreams of national granduer by
individual politicians is normal, but a respectable news organization should be
more circumspect in its praise than this article by the DNEWS.
Gov/Ambassador HuntsmanThank you for your recent service representing our
country. You were the only Republican candidate that seemed to have a grasp of
foreign policy. Though I disagree with many/most of your policies at least you
had the guts to chart your own course, like embracing science. I mourn the loss
of moderates within the Republican Party. Maybe you should consider switching
sides, or at least continue to be a voice for change in the Republican Party?
I am so disgusted by a lot in this state how we so easily turn on our own. You
all should be proud of this man, instead a lot of you make snide comments and
backstab. Oh go ahead and take me to task for what I have just said, I will just
laugh at you as I know the truth hurts.I applaud Jon Huntsman for
having the courage to run and to stand up for what he believes, a trait in which
I see a lot of you lacking.
