BYU might be getting the exposure they desire and might have been able to get
the 10 wins, BUT they were against a bunch of WAC cupcakes, and until better
opposition is on the schedule, this is a program that will tread in relevance
rather than gain the further recognition it wants. Until BYU joins a
"real" conference (the Big 12 still could offer them a slot even
without any Sunday play since tehy will be going back to 12 sooner than later),
they will NEVER advance and only stagnate. By late in the decade they'll only
be as relevant as Utah State.I would not like to be a BYU fan by say
2018 when ESPN chooses not to renew the contract and attendance is below 30,000
per game in a 60,000+ seat stadium, and the senior brethren on the LDS Church
take the painful step to drop the football program at BYU. That will
happen...mark my words.
BYU celebrates a weak ranking in one poll only because USC wasn't eligible?Btw, wasn't the only championship the Cougars were playing for was the
national championship?Fell a bit short I guess... But
hey, they did go undefeated in the WAC.And they have another WAC
heavy schedule to look forward to next year... so they have that going for
them... which is nice...
Not even two weeks since the bowl game, and I'm already counting down the days
to Spring ball and opening kick off. Here's my questions for 2012.QB - Will Nelson stay injury free? Is Lark capable of stepping in if
need? How much playing time will Munns, Olsen and Hill get and which one will
prove themself in 2012 to take over the reigns in 2013? I'm betting on Munns in
2013 and Hill in 2014.LB - Why is there no mention of Zac Stout?
Fua looks talented, but also looks like he needs to put some "meat on his
bones". He's built like a basketball player.WR - Will we see
more production from Apo? Would love to see Apo and Hoffman both over 1,000
yards receiving. This schedule is a step up from 2011. There are
some great October games on tap. News flash for fair weather fans and U trolls
- November schedule is going to be weak again. Get over it. 2013 should be a
better November schedule. If U think November has too many cupcakes, just
remember Utah plays Colorado in November also.
Many top teams play some cupcake teams. #1 SLC Sports Fan--live with it and
quit the ute whining.
Not a bad finish to the season. The pre-season hype was a bit
much:"BYU will go undefeated and contend for the NC game.""BYU will be the first one-loss AQ to earn a BCS bid.""Jake Heaps will be a finalist in the Heisman race."Not close
to a BCS bid, and who'd have guessed Jake would be gone?Next year is
tougher for the Cougars. 5 BCS opponents instead of 4.It will be
interesting to see what happens to the Cougars should they ever schedule 9 BCS
opponents like the AQ conferences.Good luck.
OK 1slcsportsfan, I marked your words. Right next to where I mark Chris B's
"mark my words". Chris B is wrong more often than right, and your
prophesy that BYU will be out of football by 2018 will be wrong also.I also hope that BYU is invited to fill one of the two remaining spots in the
BIG12, but if they aren't they have proven they can make Indepence work.
Absolutely, I would choose the Big12 over Indy, but I'll take Indy over MWC any
day. For those who mocked the four or five cupcake games, I ask you
to tell me how they are any different than playing New Mexico, UNLV, Wyoming or
Colorado State in the MWC most years.
Correction "first one-loss NON-AQ team". BYU doesn't have the Notre
If we could get the G-Tech game in November that would help the sched a lot.For real though, next season will be a success depending on how the big
games go. PERIOD. I'll admit I'm still not sold on Riley Nelson as a QB.
Oh Great - It looks like Idaho is becoming our rivalry game....
Watch out....hear come the u trolls on a positive BYU article saying it isn't
so. "Mark it down", "Write it down", whatever! If they were
so right why are they sitting in their Mother's basement trolling on BYU
articles and scratching to buy another bag of cheetos. Cupcake
teams? how soon they forget Montana State and CU. Ooop's CU is their new rival
and after all they are in the Conference of Champions even though they are one
of the worst teams in the NCAA.Yes, we don't have the Notre Dame
deal, but we can go further than u because you will never make it past USC. I
would much rather be a Cougar fan than a fan of One Sport U. Have a nice
hibernation u fans.
Nothing says survival like an extremely weak schedule.
"The Cougars are one of only 11 programs to be nationally ranked in at
least one of the two major polls in five of the last six years."
Congratulations!!!@ SooneruteThat must really take a great
spin job to be so hyped about playing BCS teams where the Conference of
Champions went 2 - 5 in their bowl games. Did you notice that Notre Dame lost
their bowl game, too? Here's a few other facts you missed: 1- Your beloved Utah Utes lost to lowly Colorado, which hadn't won a game on
the road in FOUR years, but managed to hold Utah to 39 yards in the first
half.2- "Utah will play in the Rose Bowl." That's
laughable. In your own words "Not even close but who'd have
guessed that they did have a shot at it and couldn't beat Colorado at home and
that Norm Chow would be gone?"A look in the mirror by Ute fans
disparaging the Cougars is suggested. And remember, you guys would rather go 8
- 5 and be unranked than play on independent schedule and get ranked...wish
granted. Good luck with the BCS in the future and being bottom feeders.
re: soonerute"It will be interesting to see what happens to the
Cougars should they ever schedule 9 BCS opponents like the AQ
conferences."Assuming we can schedule teams like U do against
Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State I don't see the addition of 3 or 4 BCS teams
presenting a problem. By the way, BYU has 7 BCS teams scheduled in 2013;
including Texas, Boise State and Notre Dame. I'm pretty sure our 2013 SOS will
rival the U's.Also, can you list your references? You put some
statements in quotations. You should then list who made those quotations. For
all I know they are your quotes. They are certainly not mine. re:
BYU Joe"Oh Great - It looks like Idaho is becoming our rivalry
game...."How many games are we committed to play Idaho?
Versus, how many games are we committed to play Boise State? Hint: one of these
teams has a 12 year deal with BYU. Hopefully, Utah won't chicken out and will
continue to schedule us, but if they don't Boise State will become the new
CougFaninTX,If last year taught us anything, it's that CU is no
cupcake for Utah.
I was surprised the Utes were not ranked. I think they should have been. The
top-25 ranking given to the Cougars was more than generous. By the
way - - - I'm a cougar fan, and I'm glad the season is over.
Go ahead ask Chris Hill to go with Big10 contract and overkill your schedule.
Have fun with this storied program of yours and take a lot of pain medications.
Yes, Novermeber schedule on BYU wlll end up like it did last year.
So what, we save those cupcakes at the end. 2018 is a long way to go and who
knows what landscape going to be like in college football.
Cheer up PAC12fan. Some of those weak PAC sisters from your schedule this year
are bound to improve. Of course, that means some of them will likely beat U, but
your conference, currently rated the #4 football conference and the #9
basketball conference is bound to improve. Can't get much worse...especially the
Pac-12 Fan you described Utah's schedule to a tee. There is nothing to gloat
about having a Whacky-12 South division heavy schedule..... Especially when the
bottom of the barrel was able to beat you. So, make sure that when you rise up
to shoot down the Cougars you aren't shooting into a rock in turn shooting your
own eye out.
As a life long Ute fan, I have to acknowledge the returning talent for BYU looks
impressive. I think your wide receivers have big time talent and Van Noy brings
amazing atheleticism to the defense. Should make for a great game next year.Go Utes.
I know the polls do not mean anything but CNN just released its early look at
next year and BYU is #27- Utes sorry to say were not on the list
"Much of the Cougars' success will depend on how they start, and with games
against Washington State, Utah, Boise State, Oregon State and Notre
Dame..."Uh, no. Much of the Cougars' success will depend on
their pending weak SOS by returning every one of their WAC-lite opponents from
LAST season to their COMING season. That was pretty much the story of their
Navel,Good thing Utah has the chance to avenge that loss to CU.
Although it will be in Boulder this time! Lose two years in a row to the Pac-12
cellar dweller? The horror!! Well, to be fair to CU, maybe the TUN is looking to
take over that distinction.
@SoonerUte"The pre-season hype was a bit much:'BYU will go
undefeated and contend for the NC game.''BYU will be the first one-loss AQ
to earn a BCS bid.''Jake Heaps will be a finalist in the Heisman race.'Not close to a BCS bid, and who'd have guessed Jake would be gone?"I remember all those quotes coming from Ute Trolls, not BYU fans. And SLCSporstsFan has been wishing and hoping for the Church to pull the
plug on sports at BYU for a long time because he just can't deal with the
competition from the Provo. Sorry it ain't gonna happen. The Church knows a good
thing when it sees it. There will always be BYU sports with BYUTV broadcasting
it as long as there is nothing like a Penn State incident.
@ Naval VetHow's that Utah vs. TOT working out? (Hint: the TOT
[Team Over There] hadn't won a road game in four years. Then they came to Utah
and their fortunes improved.) I understand that Colorado prevented Utah from
playing in the first PAC 12 Championship Game, representing the Southern
Division. My, who but Cougar fans would have guessed. And next year,
Utah vs. TOT is in Boulder. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the Ute locker room
after the game if TOT wins again.PS The folks in Boulder are just
estatic that Utah is in their conference, in case you were wondering.
"BYU will go undefeated and contend for the NC game.""BYU
will be the first one-loss AQ to earn a BCS bid.""Jake Heaps
will be a finalist in the Heisman race."SoonerUte,I'd like you to provide references for at least 2 BYU fans making the claims
you say they made. Until then, I'm calling you out on putting words in their
mouths and then making fun of them for it.Also, I thought you knew a
bit more about football scheduling, but since you obviously don't, let me fill
you in; teams sign contracts years in advance. Scheduling last minute like BYU
has had to do these last few years is HARD and Holmoe put together a respectable
schedule considering the circumstances.
Two weeks since the football season ended and now it is waiting till Football
starts again in the fall season. Surely this non football season brings
football withdrawals. Cougar fans will survive with the basketball games going
on. To the poser above who suggested BYU is not relevant. It would
appear that Cougars are relevant to you as you took the time to read and post.
Fans are often optomistic about their team. Why do trolls need to
criticize? Geez, let a fan have some fun. Must the trolls always try to tear
down an opponent? Oh and considering the BYU - Utah rivalry. I
hope it ends. Reading all these troll posts is getting old. Go
I have to admit that I was ready to give up on BYU this year. Let's face it,
there were many reasons to be disappointed this year:-Terrible
schedule;-Out of BCS contention with just one loss;-Brocno clearly
did not have much passion for this team as it looked like he was falling asleep
on the sidelines;-No invitation to the BIG 12; andMediocre
recruiting class for 2012, etc., etc, etc.Notwithstanding the above,
I cleaned out my garage this last week and I found my "Quest for
Perfection" t-shirt that had been hidden away in a corner. It gave me
inspiration and hope that 2012 could be our year. Let's do it!! Quest for
Perfection 2012! I will start printing the shirts.
I think BYU football is really going the way of the dinosaur. I fully expect
BYU to do away with its football program in another 4-5 years. It
has been on a fast and hard downward spiral for the last few years. Nothing can
stop the unavoidable trainwreck. At least we have one great, exciting
and BCS football program in the State.
Next year will be even more blustery. Does anyone really get excited about BYU
football anymore?? I guess the fans that take their kids to eat nothco's and
hotdogs and just have a fun fall day listening to the band etc... With Bronco
trying to leave the program now that should send a message to all Cougar
faithful about the future of the program. Blustery and dying....
One word to describe the countless trolls who are desperately wishing and hoping
in vain for the demise of BYU football--Pathetic.
