A plus one format is not good enough. A playoff needs to have a minimum of 8
teams to be viable and to eliminate forever the Mythical College Football
Championship. Can you imagine if we would've had LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State,
Stanford, Oregon, Arkansas, Boise State and Kansas State vying for the national
championship this year? You can't tell me that wouldn't be more exciting and
therefore more lucrative than what we endured from the BCS games this year.
I agree the 8 team playoff would be historic and the viewership would be
tremendous. I only watched 3 minutes of the boring NC game last night. The
problem has to do with Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, Rose, Money and Tradition. What if
the ACC champion wasn't in the top 8 teams? The so call "pundits"
would be out in full force. As long as sportswriters and coaches have votes,
nothing will be fair. Computer rankings are more fair than votes. A run through
the SEC, Big 10, Pac 12 has more credence than a run through the WAC or MWC or
Independence. I can just imagine if the top 8 were not teams like Michigan,
Alabama, Florida, LSU, USC, Texas. The networks and conference commissioners
would be upset. Too many politics. Imagine the final 8 being: Boise, Utah, Iowa,
Texas Tech, Kansas, Arizona, Cincinnati and Rutgers. I would love it but there
would be an outcry from the Politicians, Bowl Committees, Commissioners, etc.
