I saw a great cartoon just before Christmas. Romney was sitting on Santa's lap.
Romney said to Santa "what do you want me to ask for?" That summarizes
the reason that people are wary of Romney as well as anything I've seen.
The main problem for the GOP is that the percentage of votes for Paul and
Santorum out of Iowa show that conservatives still prefer someone other than
Romney. Presumably, if either Paul or Santorum dropped out, that candidate
would pick up virtually all the conservative votes of the other. Neither Santorum nor Paul, however, can appeal to independent and moderate
voters -- Paul's wacky writings about ethic groups from the 1990s and Santorum's
stand on abortion and gays will not pull independents away from Obama, even if
they're disappointed with Obama's overall record. Romney Care and
Romney's latest silly quips about his liking to "fire people" is
simply rich material for attack ads... Huntsman can appeal to
independents and moderates and would probably give Obama the most competitive
match up, but conservatives will never allow him to get the nomination.
@Baron Scarpia"Neither Santorum nor Paul, however, can appeal to
independent and moderate voters"Many people believe this, and
repeat it over and over, but is it true? Let's look at a CBS poll out
yesterday. Here's how the candidates do in a head-to-head match up with
Obama:Romney 47% Obama 45%Obama 46% Paul 45%Obama 43%
Santorum 43%Obama 48% Huntsman 41%and this is their polling
among independents:Paul 47% Obama 40%Romney 45% Obama 39%Obama 42% Huntsman 40%Obama 44% Santorum 41%So Ron Paul
polls within the margin of error in a general election and does the BEST among
independents of all the candidates. Seems to me like that would make him the
MOST electable of all the candidates. We can go by the data we have, or we can
just simply state what we wish were the truth.
Correction: Obama is at 47% against Santorum at 43% in a general election match

Santorum is a joke. He announced the other day he would cut the legs out from
under all Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security recipients RIGHT NOW. No gradual
changes. Let all those poor and old folks starve and freeze in the streets. As Bugs Bunny says, "What a maroon."
