Here's hoping we can change the culture in politics by running some alternatives
to the status quo candidates. It's important that voters learn to listen
rather than dismiss candidates based on labels. Pigeonholing and marginalizing
have been the stock-in-trade of media outlets. Just mention the words "Tea
Party", "Palin", "Limbaugh" or "Beck"...and
you are supposed to dismiss the candidate as a screwball. But wait a
minute. This guy knows a great deal about international business, production,
management, taxation, regulation, money policy, immigration...Sure he has
strong opinions, but do you want more of the same or new ideas and
leadership? We need to start LOOKING at the candidates rather than
dismissing them because the sidebar story says a BYU poll tells us the Tea Party
is on the way out.
Great! I hope he does run. Then when he is thoroughly trounced maybe we can
put to bed the silly exercise that has been the TP. They are not well rounded,
do not understand the compromises that were a significant part of the founding
of this country and do not have a depth or breadth of understanding. They focus on taxes and do not even realize the historical track record we
have of approximately 18% taxes. Currently with the cuts and the extensions, we
are running around 14%. So this mistaken and ignorant belief that we have too
high of taxes is without base or foundation.Run, get beat by a wide
margin, and then stick around. We need you so we don't have too much thinking
inside the box; but please be quiet while adults are talking.
Fantasy and futility.
recent poll suggests Tea Party members are less popular than
"Atheists" besides Utah politics is already stocked full with fringe
right wingers even though the majority of Utahans are more moderate. If only
people would quick blindly voting for the MAN with the "R" next to his
name and think before they voted.
If he has any involvement with the tea party, he's the LAST person Utah needs as
Utah, you are better than that.
His running brings the whole tea party situation to a head. Either he will win,
or he won't and then Utah Republicans can quit being afraid of not being the lap
dog of the tea party "patriots".
Heaven help us.
