Way to go Utes!
What a game! This group of guys, collectively, is one of the guttiest I've
seen. With their huge increase in competition and losing their starting QB, I'm
amazed that they found a way to win 8 games, including some impressive OOC
victories over Pitt, BYU, and now Georgia Tech.A great season, Utes!
Looking forward to next year!
What a GREAT game! The Utes Never, Never, Never Give Up!2011 has been a great year for the intro into the PAC-12 and 2012 will only
continue to capitalize. The future is VERY Bright!Congrats Utes!
I thought we were suppose to look upon non-BCS bowls with hate and disgust.
Look at the picture of those Ute players...they are happy and celebrating an
accomplishment. I guess all that talk only applies to BYU when playing in and
winning a non-BCS bowl. How could the Utes be happy with a win in the Sun Bowl?
Please help me to understand. Please teach me the meaning of life.
I was checking the score off and on while pulling a Saturday shift at the
hospital. Thought the game was over when GT was up by 14...shocked to see at OT
win by utah when the shift ended. I picked GT by 3 points at the beginning of
the bowl season, on Friday I was thinking utah would win by 5...pulling for GT
all the way and really thought the 14 point lead would hold up and caught myself
thinking,"Why did you ever think the u would win this game?"Wow, an OT win by a PAC 10.2 team...I really didn't think it would happen. A
nice win for Norm as he heads to UH, a good comeback win for utah. The state of
Utah did very well in the bowl season. Looking forward to 2012 football season
- now on to conference play in BB...good luck to all and a happy new year to
everyone.Please let it snow!
When everyone in the state hate given this team and this season up for lost
following the loss of their talented qb-they still had faith in each other and
won 5 of their last 6 games. When everyone had thrown Jon Hays under the
bus and said we couldn't win with a D2 qb--he went out and won 5 of 6 games and
he wasn't responsible for the 1 idiotic loss. When every single fan in the
stadium, state of Utah (including many of their own fans) and in the viewing
audience had given this game to Georgia Tech in the 3rd quarter-they believed in
each other and came back to score a stunning win.I used to think it
was a little over the top when every single Ute player interviewed would say,
"It wasn't about me--everybody contributed." Now I'm starting to think
that it's 100% genuine. It's a good time to be a Ute football fan.
Utah by three. BYU by three. Both wins on the very last play of the games.
Lots of heart. Neither quarterback were "the anointed" ones. Isn't
it great to be a fan of BYU and Utah? Can't we just get along?
Great week of Footbal for the State of Utah. Way to go Utes to pull this one
out. I have to admit, it looked pretty grim in the 3rd...but what a team.
Also, I have great respect for Hayes...well done! He had every excuse to not
get it done, and yet, he did. If a couple of passes had been caught that should
have been...his day would have been statistically excellent...however, the
outcome was EXCELLENT! Great group of young men - Proud to be a Ute
It's interesting to me that in the 13 games that Utah played, 9 were convincing
outcomes one way or the other. The other four saw Utah win two close games and
lose two close games (2-2). Both wins were in overtime and were the same score.
Utah beat Washington State and Georgia Tech 30-27. The two losses were the same
score as well (kind of). Utah lost to USC and Colorado 17-14 depending on how
you look at it. The final score at USC was 17-14 until the final box score
changed the score a few hours later. The blocked FG by USC as Utah was trying to
send the game to overtime was returned for a TD with USC on the field
celebrating. By rule the score was not allowed, but for some reason hours later,
the TD counted. It was not legit.
nottyou, apparently you're the only one keeping yourself from being happy with
BYU's bowl win.
Hi, nottyou. The Sun bowl may not be a BCS bowl, but it is one of the
oldest bowl games in the nation. It has been around for nearly eighty years, and
Utah played in one of the early Sun Bowls in 1939. Utah was victorious over New
Mexico in that game, and, thus, Utah is now 2-0 at the Sun Bowl. (And it doesn't
hurt that the Sun Bowl pays out millions of dollars.)You need not
recognize the toughness and dedication that the Utes showed on the field, and
you need not recognize their accomplishment. The simple fact is that the Utes
played a great game. They overcame adversity this season and made a whole lot of
lemonade. This Ute fan is pleased. (And though I would have been disappointed
with a loss, they would have been my boys win or lose.)As for your
other question, college football bowl games have little to do with the meaning
of life. But if you insist, I can probably draw upon some metaphors and use the
game as a means of teaching you that you need to endure to the end, fight the
good fight, etc.Or maybe you were just being sarcastic in an attempt
to tear down the Utes or their fans? Ouch, you got me.Pretty weak,
Nottyou: If you don't understand the difference between winning and losing,
stick to Judge Judy. You have no business on a sports blog.
gdog, the official ruling of why the SC touchdown counted was that it was not
the scoring player that had the illegal celebration. That new rule states that
the player running the ball into the end zone cannot celebrate before he gets in
or the TD is disallowed. Since it was his teammates celebrating and not him, the
score still counted and the penalty would have been enforced on the kickoff, but
there was no time remaining, game over.
Great to see the U win in overtime. Disappointing season against a very weak
PAC-12, but a final win helps. Hope the coaching staff now stops getting the
players hyped up to play PAC-12 opponents which on average are about the same as
the team has been playing for years. The PAC-12 hopefully improves over the
next few years. It was truly only very mediocre this year, and still the team
could only win against one good team in the conference UCLA, and the truly awful
teams WSU, Arizona, and OSU, and then lose to a terrible Colorado team. This
bowl win is a nice redemption.
Great win. Great article...except...Mr. Facer - and everybody else including
John White IV - left out the most important person in this win. It was nice
that Shawn Asiata was mentioned for his touchdown earlier in the game but on the
final play of the game, John White IV is going nowhere with the blocking of
Asiata. Let's give credit where credit is due.
@ ECR 7:07You're wrong White does credit Asiata. Read ESPNs report
on the game. He mentions that as soon as he saw Sean "blast" a guy he
knew that he'd be making it in. Don't rush to judgement. They all rely on each
other. They are the true "Band of Brothers".
A Utah man sir.
