Wow. I didn't know much about him before today, but reading about him made me
gain a ton of respect for the guy. It looks like he'll be an awesome addition
to the team. I look forward to seeing him play in a Cougar jersey!
I can't wait to see him play. Hopefully he'll be as good as advertised. But like
always we'll just have to see.
If the blue / white game was any indication, Carlino will be our starting PG for
3+ years. It may take him a few games to transition into the role, but I expect
him to be the starter by mid January or maybe even the beginning of conference
play. He's still not Jimmer, so temper your expectations. But he
looks like he has all the qualities of a great PG.Both Cusick and
Winder are playing well at PG though. I'd like to see Cusick push the ball a
little more and pick up the tempo when he's in. I'd like to see Winder hit a
few more outside shots (easier said than done). Winder pushes the ball well,
drives to the basket and plays great defense, but opposing defenses are really
able to sag off him and put more pressure on Noah and Brandon in the paint since
Winder's not much of an outside threat.Without Rogers; Abouo,
Zylstra and Harrison need to pick it up on the offensive side. We need an extra
10 points from them to make up for Rogers absense.Davies needs to
stop shooting the 15+ footers and make his presence known in the paint.
I am looking forward to seeing him play. If he is close to being as good as
advertised, he should improve the team. Winder and Cusick have been playing well
the last few games but BYU needs a little more consistency from the point
position. I am excited about BYU basketball again this year. Next year could be
Well, given that this is BYU people should discount the "hype". It is
always overblown.Lets just see if Carlino will prove it on the
I like seeing BYU's depth overall. It's also good to not see any superstars
on the team this year.Often that translates into better and more
consistent team play, evenif someone is having an off night. Not
saying I won't miss Jimmer lighting up the scoreboard though.
Terrible news about Rogers, hope it's not as serious as suspected, Rogers was a
big part of this team and will be sorely missed.Harrison should get more
minutes because of Rogers misfortune, let's hope he can shoot with alittle more
consistency.Davies needs to take the ball to the rim, he is struggling
with anything outside 5 ft from the hole.Hopefully Carlino shows he can
knock down the 3, our point guards need to keep teams honest by hitting their
outside shots.Without Rogers BYU will have a hard time beating Baylor but
they can still do it, Abuo needs to have a big game.
We're thrilled about this young fellow. He will do a terrific job!
I missed it - what happened with Rogers?
We need the negative take on the news - Where are mgr, Navel, and Pac Proud?
Carlino looked really aggressive in the Blue/White game. He didn't look to shoot
a lot but finished with 6 pts 9 rebs and 5 assts with only 1 turnover. He was
always pushing the ball and played at a very high tempo. I think he's going to
be a great fit at PG.
Hedge is on more Ute articles than BYU ones.
Mad cow Hedge?

Ute's Hedgehog rather it is the Cougar's Hegdehog. He/she does this to create
I've an inkling that this guy will be better than Jim was. Go Cougzz!
Best wishes for Matt. Why did a young man with his ability pay his own way last
year instead of getting a scholarship? Let's hope he is the next
Jimmer (except when and if BYU plays Utah State).
Why didn't Carlino consider playing for the utes? He must not know they're in
the pac12. Ha. What a mistake Carlino. You could've come in last place annually.
I want to wish Rodgers all the best in recovering from his injury. He is a
great player and made BYU a potential title winner the first year in the WCC.
Mr Rodgers is instant offense and a work of art in motion. He will be missed.
Carlino has all the tools to be great, just needs game experience, remember this
kid was offered a scholarship by Indiana after his freshman HS year. After the
way Winder has played I figured it would be hard to move him out as a starter,
but after the Utah game, watching him being exploited because he couldn't hit
3's I think it's Carlino's to take.
Carlino does show some promise, but I'm always suspicious of guys that have a
history of transfers. Sounds like he transferred in the middle of HS (possibly
not his choice; I have no idea about the circumstances) and now has committed to
three college programs (Indiana, UCLA and BYU) before even playing a game. All of which may end up meaning nothing, but it does raise a red flag. I
hope the guy is happy at the Y and becomes a star, but if things don't go
smoothly for him this year or next, will he be looking around for another
No hype here, this kid is the real deal! Not too shabby for a D1 debut!
