So now we know that "indefinite" suspensions are easy to clear up, especially before a rivalry game. Funny how that resovled itself so quickly.

Lets see, he is suspended and they lose at home by the biggest margin in school history..They are scheduled to play in state rival in 2 days, who btw is playing quite well..Did anyone honestly not see his reinstatement for this game? I'm sure he's learned his lesson by now.

All this means is the point spread might be under 40 instead of under 50. It can't be much worse than last year.

It won't make any difference in the outcome of the game, but I just lost some respect for Coack k. He realizes he is in a world of hurt and is acting a bit desperate, or so it would appear.

Wow, coach! Lesson learned! Punishment delivered! Back to business! I guess others will think twice now. I'm sure Watkins used that 27 hrs and fifteen minutes to really mull over his trangressions. He must be credited for using the fifteen or twenty minutes between classes to work on fullfilling those obligations. I hope those tough disciplinary measures don't break the kids spirit.

I didn't think his being suspended would affect the outcome of the game Saturday nor do I think his being reinstated will affect it either. BYU is going to absolutely humiliate utah unless Coach Rose hooses not to humiliate them. He is a classy coach so he'll call off the dogs at some point.

I do think it would be extra funny if Cusik and Sharp go off just a little bit. I'm kinda hoping for that.

This has me scratching my head. "Suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team" sounds pretty ominous, but how bad could it really have been if within three days the kid's back on the team? Either the coach is so desperate to not stink up the Huntsman Center two games in a row (and it's hard to believe otherwise - and even with Watkins it's hard to believe it won't happen) that he is willing to brush away whatever grievous offense Jiggy had committed, or it really wasn't that bad a problem to begin with. Either way I don't think this reflects well on the coach's judgement and can only diminish the respect his players have for him.

I bleed red and white, but I'm at the point I feel like the Saint's fans of 1980 and would wear a bag over my head at the games. Google "1980 New Orleans "Aints" and check out the images and you'll see what I mean.

The problem with what Coach Krystkowiak is doing is this. Without Watkins playing Utah has a whopping 0.00% chance of beating BYU - Zilch, nada, no way. With Watkins playing the percentage jumps to 1% - maybe. So, for a 1% chance of beating BYU Coack Krystkowiak is willing to compromise his standards??? What message does this send to everyone in the U of U basketball program? And the sad thing is that he knows it, his players know it, and the fans know that what he is doing is suspect at best.

Not a good way, in my opinion, to start off his coaching career.

Indefinte suspensions usually last longer than one game. I'm not sure if it was the 30 point loss or the rivalry game that caused Coach Kry to reexamine his decision. From a fan perspective, I'm glad Watkins is back so U don't have any excuses for the 44 point loss on Saturday.

I've been in pain since September 17. I think all my pain will be gone after Saturday.

Thank you for that comment. Too many of the others oooooze the 'I'd rather play a depleted team and win by a million' attitude.
Although, technically Utah's still not at full strength...losing Foster was a huge blow to this undersized team and changes our defensive scheme completely.
Memo to others, Utah's already depleted enough this year and will get annihilated...so rest easy. I'm simply hoping they keep it under 30...20 would be fantastic.
As for the suspension...you guys are all over the top. His main 'offense' was being late to practice...most coaches wouldn't even be suspending a guy for that. Good for Coach K.
And yes, I called him coach K.

Despite the coach not telling the media what it was... these things get out. It's pretty common knowledge at this point that he was late to practice and was suspended because he had done the same thing previously and was warned about it. There's a chance this was also do to an 'attitude' issue which encompasses the tardiness thing.

I think Coach 'k' felt like watkins wasn't neede to be able to handle the powerhouse team from Fullerton in town, so that'd be a good game to have him serve his suspension. Now that that's over, time to get him back on the court for the real challenge.

All kidding aside, it's almost no fun anymore to make fun of utah's bball situation, but since u fans ("Y haters") do it so readily about BYU's failures I guess I'll have to just keep enjoying myself at 'u'r expense.

Sorry but this is flat out pitiful. Coach K had his chance on a throw away season to build a culture a gave it up so he could lose by 30 to BYU instead of 50. Looks like the rebuilding will be delayed until the next coach with character is found.

I doubt we would be even a little bit as rude and thoughtless.
I like Coach K and I support his need to tear down and start over.

  • uteBusters Park City, UT
    Dec. 8, 2011 11:03 p.m.

    TheHailstorm

BYU's one-win season was so last century; Utah's one-win season is so today.

Coach k didn't need to tear down anything to start rebuilding; all he had to do was scrape away the ashes of the smoldering train wreck left behind by Boylen.

    BYU's rebuilding project - 3 lossing seasons, 3 20+ win seasons, 2 NCAA tournaments
    2001 24-9
    2000 22-11
    1999 12-16
    1998 9-21
    1997 1-25
    1996 15-13
    1995 22-10
    Total 105-105

    Utah's rebuilding project - 5 losing seasons, 1 20+ win season, 1 NCAA tournament
    2012 1-7
    2011 13-18
    2010 14-17
    2009 24-10
    2008 18-15
    2007 11-19
    2006 14-15
    Total 95-101

As bad as things got for BYU in the late 90's, at least the Cougars didn't spend the next 6 years spinning their wheels with no end in site. Even with a one-win season, BYU still broke even over the seven-year stretch. The Utes will be 20+ games under .500 by the time this season is over, with at least another two or three losing seasons ahead of them.

    BYU's nightmare is over. Utah's is never-ending.

This comment by Watkins made me laugh, "They're coming in as a good team and we're looking to put up a fight. We're looking to put up a real good fight."

Bwahaha! What a fight it will be.

I knew it would be bad, but not this bad. Could really have used Foster this year, but having him for 2 more years with better talent around him and guys that have meshed might be a silver lining.

If any of you have been listening to Krystko, he really doesn't care about the BYU game - at least no more or less than he does the rest of the schedule. In fact, he's taking some heat from Crimson Clubbers for the way he is approaching the "rivalry" game. So for all the so called, self proclaimed experts on here - Krystko would have brought Jiggy back if he fulfilled his side of the deal whether Utah was playing San Diego Christian, the Academy of Art, BYU or Duke. Do you all really think Jiggy will make even the slightest bit of difference in the outcome of this game? Coach Rose alone controls what the point differential will be - 20, 30, 40, 50, more. Can you honestly say that Krystko would compromise his standards to try to change how much he loses by? Y'all need to come back to reality. The kid was late to practice, talked back to the coaches and got in some scuffles with teammates. He had to apologize to his teammates and the coaches and vow to play within a team system. Move on, nothing to see here.

"gotta respect coach K for his integrity. Most coaches would ignore it until after the season was over. (Mr Unga anybody?)"

I don't usually post on articles about a rival team, but you've got a lot of nerve making a claim (or spinning a story) like that. Harvey Unga didn't come forward with any information about his honor code violation until the season was over so you can't pin that on the coach. In the Brandon Davies situation, however, information came out during the most important part of the season and he was still pulled. In both instances the coaches and the school worked with the student athletes for quite some time before they were reinstated at the school.

Contrast that with this situation where coach Krystko states he will pull the player "indefinitely" only to reinsert him into the lineup 27 hours later, before playing a rival team. Even a Ute fan should be able to draw more accurate conclusions about these two contrasting situations than you have.

However, I am glad he will be playing. Less excuses for the home team in the mighty PAC 12, before they play lowly mid-major BYU. Go Cougs!

    @failstorm

What does Tony Delp have to do with anything? I don't think he has any connection whatsoever to BYU.

As far as the 1-25 season is concerned, well, that was a decade and a half ago. I understand the desire of utah "fans" like yourself to bring it up although according to motorbike BYU fans aren't supposed to mention it in context to utah's current season, only utah "fans" can mention it to try and justify they're current embarrassing predicament.

I suppose this means BYU fans should be able to reference utah's 70's and 80's football seasons whenever BYU football is doing less than we desire?

But the truth is what BYU did 15 years ago has nothing at all to do with how terrible utah is today. Nor will utah be able to bounce back as quickly as BYU did, BYU has alot of recruiting advantages that utah does not have so it was much easier for them.

I have no problem with you wishing and hoping, it is all you have left afterall, but the references to a BYU team almost 2 decades ago is not even slightly relevent or convincing to utah's current failings.

    TheHailstorm

You clearly don't read any posts on BYU football's stories, do you? You might be one of the classy Utah fans, but there are just as many Ute fans that kick BYU when there down as there are BYU fans that kick Utah fans when they are down. My thought would be that, except for the rivalry game, they should cheer each other on. Why would BYU or Utah want to win against the other when they stink? It only makes their strength of schedule look weaker and the winning team's accomplishments less impressive. Cheer Utah and BYU on, then chose your side for the rivalry game and have fun!

"if any of you have been listening to Krystko, he really doesn't care about the BYU game - at least no more or less than he does the rest of the schedule."

Uh-huh, that's REALLY obvious. During the off-season the only player he got upset about leaving the program was the one who transfered to BYU. Now, he suspends a player "Indefinitely" which turns out in Coach Crisco's lexicon, means only 27 hrs. It's "ironic" that according to you, Crisco doesn't care about BYU but he lifts an indefinite suspension in time for his best player to play in that game.

    @Failstrom
"How soon the Cougar forget the 1-26 Tony Delp disaster."

It's funny how in football, Ute fans only want to discuss this century when it comes to team relevance and success and, for example, totally discount BYU's success in the sport from the late 70's through 90's as "not being in this century and therefore irrelevant". Yet in basketball Ute fans want to turn off the "not in this century" disclaimer.

It comes off a bit hypocritical, don't you think?

Somehow, your math just isn't adding up.

    * they have a mild honor code

BYU fans who are casting stones about the "indefinite" suspension must have pretty short memories. After all, you're obviously not remembering all those "indefinite" suspensions handed out by Bronco Mendenhall during spring practice that just happened to end right before BYU started playing in the fall.

And having Watkins won't help us one bit...Dave Rose still gets to basically pick the margin of victory.
