Earl Watson is a huge plus for the Jazz, knows the system and has steel in his
guts when crunch time arrives, competent and makes the team better. Jazz had
better step up on that one.AK is a different scenario. Greg Miller
at the end of last season pointed out that AK was hurt and unable to play 25% of
the games he was asked to step into. What kind of employer would pay an
employee to perform 3/4 of the time? I think there are better options out
there.Vince is getting the boot from Phoenix and he could be
electric for the team. Many team are pursuing Nene and the big centers so there
are a few other forwards available who would be a bigger support to the Jazz
than AK. Hopefully th4e Jazz are reaching out so they can say to the AK fans
they tried. In all reality AK would be better off wearing the bear mascot suit
than a Jazz uniform. It would be wonderful to find Okur a new
residence as well. He can't play defense nor does he take his body and pound it
inside on the offense.
AK is a risk because of his health/injury concerns. But he has played very well
in Russia this year and I still feel would be valuable to the Jazz at a much
reduced salary from the enormous amount of money he was paid last year. I'm ok
with AK, at the right price. I'm ok with Earl Watson too. He is solid, if not
spectacular but he really seems adept at throwing the lob pass to our high
flying youngsters. I still think we need more help with the point guard position
too. I haven't seen enough of Devin Harris but I worry a little about his
durability and if he gets hurt that leaves us with just Watson (I don't know if
Ronnie Price will be back or not). I wish we could have got Jimmer to shore up
our point guard position, but I'm very pleased with Kanter and Burks. I don't
know if Burks can help out with the point or not, but seems like a solid
It's hard to make judgements until the entire schedule is released, but the fact
that the Lakers gets 3 games in a row to start the season is frustrating. The
negative impact of three games in three nights will be so much more painful
midway through the season. The players have had months of rest going into the
first week. We'll see how evenly balanced the schedule is once it's
released. Objectively it may look fair, but I suspect the subjectivity will
favor the Lakers, Bulls, Miami, etc.
I really hope Watson is back. When Deron or Devin got hurt last year and he was
starting, I had no worries about him running the team. I like Price but can't
say the same for him unfortunately. Earl can run the team, is inexpensive, and
wants to come back. No brainer in my book. AK is a tough one. I love the guy
but he's so fragile. I guess if he comes at a good price he might be worth
having back. He has certainly helped us out at time, but hurt us at other
times. Paul Carter is a character guy, went undrafted, and has potential.
Kinda reminds me of another undrafted guy we had here for a year who is now
making a lot of noise in Portland. Of course, that was after the Jazz failed to
make a qualifying offer, which he most certainly would've jumped on.
Let Momo play out his contract, sign Watson, pass on A.K., sign Paul Carter if
he shows what the team needs. As for Vinc Carter, be careful here because I
believe we have enough veterans for the leadership needed to guide the rooks
& young players. Besides that Memo can shoot it from outside as well as most
SG and can paly some inside as well. I would go with youth given the choice
because the future is where we are today.
With all this youth and inexperience on this team AK would be indispensable. We
need him back badly.I agree with others though he should be paid
accordingly and I honestly would not be surprised to see him give the Jazz a
reasonable deal considering he has been overpaid for years. If the
Jazz are in the ball park I think he likes it here, he lives here, and he wants
to play here. On the other hand if nitwit from NJ offers AK some ridiculous
overpaid deal he probably would take it and who could blame him. There is only
so much money you can say no to.AK probably will be injured 20-25%
of this season but his knowledge of this offense and the ability to literally
play 4 positions is irreplaceable. All this youth will be exciting
until it becomes chronic losing and then fans will be screaming for someone who
knows the plays, can make others better, and will not turn the ball over every
time down the floor. That is AK in a nutshell. Who knows we might
get lucky and get a healthy year too.
@ Old TimerI agree with you...that we should go with youth...i just
hope the team would be competitive...and i really hope..we get a new PG...really
not a fan of devin harris
I guess I am alone in my views of all this. I would like to to see AK, Memo,
and Watson back. They are all decent players, good guys, and experienced vets.
I agree that AK gets injured a lot but he is not injured much more than the
average 10-year vet. And I think a lot of his injuries comes from hustle. At
least, he is one guy who is never unwilling to sacrifice his body. We could use
some more of that and more of his team defense.
It makes me sick to hear about Lakers sitting back and getting the best players
like dwight, paul. the league should stop that kind of thievery. were sick of La
in the champion ships every year. when their old players are no longer needed
they trade their junk for superstars. i hope this carter wins a spot of our team
as he is a nice brother for his sick sister and maybe a good player. hope we can
keep our good players when they need to resign and not lose them to old junk.
stay here favors and become a malone. lots want to go with the movie stars but
one would think they would like beautiful utah mountains, park city. fishing,
hunting, skiing etc.thanks.
I'm hoping Favors gets the starting nod, my starting lineup as of now would be
Big Al, Favors, CJ, Hayward, Harris. Milsap 6th man, I'm hoping they play Burks
as the 3rd point guard, Burks to back up Hayward, Milsap playing some 3 and 4. I
hope Kanter proves good enough to demand playing time. I would like to see Evans
show he can play the 3, he is long, athletic and would match up against some of
the taller, longer 3's that CJ and Hayward are over matched against. It will be
fun to see these young players develop, I just hope the coaches give them enough
time to develop and gain confidence.
If they sign Watson, that's perfect for Burks backing him up as well as the 2
guard position. I think Memo is now going to be a bench player or traded. I
think AK is too expensive, but I love the guy and would like to see the Jazz
sign him for one year $5M...he's worth it to play some long 3 and help Hayward
and Evans and Burks, etc. Wild cards are Milsap and Favors. Will both start,
just one, or neither. Personally, I would rather have Fesenko on the team than
Memo. Starting lineup might be AJ, DF, PM, GH, and DH.
If the Jazz punt Raja wouldn't that be three spots they need to fill?
I believe that Watson should be signed for the season. However, we need to
unload the two big contracts of Kirilenko and Okur. We need the cap space to
sign good, young players. My suggestion would be to get some young talent from
the D-league and ride out the year until we get some good talent from the draft.
coleman51: The Jazz don't have AK under contract any more, Okur is under
contract and it's about 10 or 11 mil. , he may be a good trade chip at the trade
dead line.I hope Burks gets alot of PT at the point guard spot.
It is going to be a short season, but a long year...
