With help, Utah can still reach the title game
Rumble in the Rockies? Oh Please! Until Colorado gets its act together its going
to be more like Buffalo target practice.
White also leads in rushing yards, and Black also leads in interception return
yardage. Not only does Black lead the conference in that category, but the
nation. Ute standouts having a much better season than anyone could have
predicted. Happy Birthday, Coach!
Black and White--both key ingredients in Utah's success.
Rumble in the Rockies? gag, More like Fumble in the Rockies? The
ancient rivalry between Utah and Colorado died over half a century ago.The supposed "biggest game of the season" is less than four days
away and the silence between Utah and Colorado fans is deafening.
After watching both teams perform during the season, I think this one is going
to be a cake walk for the Utes. It won't even be close. Go Utes!...from a die
hard Cougar fan!
It is easy to stand tall when everyone around you falls down...this just shows
how weak the PAC 12 is...a team with 4 conference losses could be in the Rose
Bowl...wow, what a draw.
I'll tell ya what would start a rivalry, if we fall asleep for this game and let
Colorado beat us out of a Conference Championship game and a bid to the Alamo
Bowl, in our beloved Rice-Eccles Stadium.we would come back for blood next year.
lets treat this as the biggest game of the year. it sure is for me, i cant wait
for this weekend to come!
Well then, let's get readuy to rumble!Go Utes!
Vearcity; to get in the Rose Bowl you still have to get past Oregon. So, the
bowl is not a draw. Utah beats up everyone in the MWC except TCU - Shows
how weak the conference is. The PAC-12 South looks evenly matched - shows how
weak the conference is. What does a strong conference look like to you?
Arizona would be more evenly matched too if they didn't have Stanford AND
Oregon on their schedule. Utah lost to USC by a blocked field goal in the
Coliseum and USC beats Oregon. Seems like a better conference than the bottom
tier WAC schools.
@FalsityAre you just a little bitter? Utah would have to beat a 10th
ranked team who beat a 4th ranked team to get to the Rose Bowl. That would be a
pretty amazing accomplishment. Since you love posting on Utah
articles, I'm sure you would watch the entire game, so it's a pretty big draw
The Ute faithful see it as a big game. As of today only a few hundred single
tickets remain to be sold. I predict another sell out in RES. Great to be in a
storied conference where we have something to play for in late November. Loving
Hey, it's Colorado! Former Big 10 powerhouse. A huge school. A BCS team with a
live Buffalo. Let's not get over inflated about what could happen post season.
Let's get excited about Friday and finish with a winning season in the PAC. Go Utes!
This game should be an easy win for Utah since Colorado is by far the worst team
they've faced all year. What an exciting end to the season. Go Utah! (and Go
California & USC too!)
Oh please...the best team in the conference is USC...Utah is 5th or 6th! Just as
itchy stated...Utah has to wait for California and USC to take care of buisness
in order for the "PRETENDERS" to play for the title. Better hope ASU doesn't get it done, cause its your last chance....SC rules
the South from this year out!Go Trojans!
Veracity, the media tends to disagree with your argument. They consider the Pac
12 to be the 3rd strongest conference in the nation. The WAC, however, is rated
11th... out of 11. Can we please put to rest these myths that the non-top-tier
Pac schools are on the same level as anyone in the WAC?
Lets face it, Utah lucked out by having a very favorable schedule. The fact is
they didn't have to play Oregon or Stanford, instead got Wash St and Oregon St,
not to mention USC being penalized. Sorry, but Utah isn't that good and will be
fortunate to find itself in the big Las Vegas bowl.
While the luster's certainly not there this year, this rivalry with Colorado
will develop over time...I have no doubt. After all, their National
Championship was 6 years more recent than the team down south.Rumble In
The Rockies sure sounds better than The Deseret Dual.
Rumble in the rockies is a far cry better than the honey bee duel. Isn't the
reality that when the Utes got rid of or Fassell resigned that their from
'pretenders to contenders' transformation officially took flight? Wasn't Ron MAC
the beginning of the marvelous ascension towards greatness that has been
witnessed here since the early 90's? What media considers the Pac-12
to be the third best? How can this be with only 3 in the top 10 (let alone top
25) and the bottom half (top 10) at that? Clearly the ACC, Big X Big XII and SEC
are far cries better than the pac-12 by any reality drinking observer of life.
I will agree that our schedule (not having to play Stanford or Oregon) combined
with USC's probation are keys to the chance we have before us, but just like
injuries and bad calls by the officials you have to play the hand you're dealt.
So all of you who are whining about our schedule and USC's situation are just
whiners. Since many of you are BYU fans, lets look are your team this year. Do
you really think you'd have the same number of wins right now, if you schedule
had included Notre Dame, Boise State, USC, Stanford or Oregon? I don't think
JSD1Just want to point out a different angle on that. Utah lost to 2
north division teams: Washington and Cal, which will be swapped for Oregon and
Stanford in the future. So, this year, we would have had 2 losses from northern
teams anyway. This year, not playing Oregon or Stanford didn't really help
record wise.VeracityYou've got to be kidding, right?
Here's what I don't get about some College Football fans. Many of them say they
want a playoff, but then when a team that has 4 losses has the chance to win the
conference or go to the Rose Bowl or whatever, then they all say how ridiculous
it is.If college football had a playoff, more of the same would
happen. So in that case, it seems the argument that in college football the
playoff happens in the regular season has at least some validity. And
I agree with other comments. Having to beat Colorado, have other teams in the
division lose, and then beat Oregon next week to get to the Rose Bowl is hardly
I would hardly characterize waiting to see if the guys ahead of you lose as
"climb[ing] back into conference contention" status. The question is
really down to who is the biggest looser.
Cowboy Dude and StGtoSLCAnd I also once listened to a man logically
explain how the cow jumped over the moon and the cat ran away with the spoon
JustTheTruthMan:"What media considers the Pac-12 to be the
third best?"Your sugar-daddy...ESPN. You can see it for
yourself by googling "ESPN SEC dominates conference rankings". It
should be the 1st link. Anyway, the Pac-12 ranks 3rd, the MWC is
6th, CUSA is 7th, the only AQ conference weak enough to allow Boise State to
bully them into inviting the Y is #8, and the conference the cougars had mined
to inflate their W/L record up to 8-3 is dead last at #11.
@ JJ1094 | 1:13 p.m. Nov. 22, 2011 Saratoga, UT We know who
the biggest loser is.They lost 54-10 and they quit. They also have
2 bye weeks in the month when everyone else is battling for a conference title.
@Henry Drummond"Until Colorado gets its act together its going to be
more like Buffalo target practice. "Maybe this year it should
just be called The Oregon Trail. Like the pioneers they'll make the buffalo
extinct with the goal of getting to see Oregon. I like our chances unless White
comes down with cholera.
@Just the Truth ManThe Sagarin rankings have the Pac-12 and Big-10 in 3rd
and 4th (I'm not sure which is ahead, it's changed a few times this year... the
two conferences are close). The ACC is ranked 5th a good deal behind those two,
while the Big 12 and the SEC are far ahead of those two.
Here's the deal, we were in the Washington game until Wynn went down, we lost.
It took Hays a couple of games to get his feet under him and get back on track,
a few more losses. Then Whitt stabilized the ship and we started our win streak.
I honestly believe that had Wynn stayed healthy, we would have the south wrapped
up by now (yes, because USC is on probation, but who's fault is that?) so, like
what has already been mentioned, you play the hand dealt to you, we may or may
not get to the championship game, but you have to admit that the Utes have
clawed their way out of a hole and shown great character in doing so. Go UTES!!!
Stop and smell the roses. Like the pun. We have an exciting game this week at
home. Enjoy! Then we have the whole conference to watch over the weekend.
Nice! This is exciting to the end of the season no matter what happens.
Sorry, JJ1094, but you crossed over into absudity when you said that "The
question is really down to who is the biggest looser [sic]."You
should know that the biggest loser will get nothing and will be irrelevant to
the Pac-12 championship game. The real question is (as it always is),
"Which eligible team has the best record?"Is it true that
Utah's good fortune is due in part to Arizona State's inability to play good
football consistently? Sure. And that circumstance has been acknowledged by
Coach Whit, by the players, and by many of Utah's fans. But Utah's
good fortune is also due to Utah's ability to play good football over the last
four weeks. And if they come out on top, it will be because they played good
football this weekend (and because Arizona State and UCLA did not). This is how competition works.Should we say that Alabama is part
of the search for the biggest loser, in that they are #2 because Oklahoma State
lost? Certainly not.Likewise, if Utah turns out to be the best
eligible team in the Pac-12 South, it won't be because Utah is the biggest
@Smack: Utah will be the biggest loser IF they have to play Oregon
in the PAC-10.2 Final Championship!Go Trojans!
Contenders for sure...this team is earning it's right to be one of the great
Utah teams. There is something truly great about a team that overcomes
adversity and excels! True, a lot still has to go right, but if it does, Utah
would play in the PAC-12 championship.BYU fans who want to scream
"pretender" or minimize the Utes 2011 Football success, think 1984
National championship - you want to claim it's legitimacy, but remember how many
things had to happen for it to be awarded. BYU earned that title. Utah to this
point has only earned a decent bowl berth, but if the stars align, they could be
playing in Oregon next week. I hope this is the case. From there, who knows.
The Utes are still a pretender, they have won a few close games with really
mediocre or poor teams. They try hard but just look how they had there clocked
cleaned by Boise State in last years bowl game. The good teams soundly beat the
Utes.If they are lucky enough to get into the Pac 12 playoff it will be a rout.
