Supposed to be cold and snowy. Hopefully this helps the running team. Defense needs to put a hurt early on the freshman to rattle him and put a lot of pressure on this guy. Let's go Utes.

Looks like it is delayed for an infomercial per the KJZZ website. Pretty lousy reason.

It's a game that has means something....and it's not at 8:15 at night when anyone who cares about college football is watching Stanford and Cal on "your" network

It's a game that is so meaningless that its playing 2nd fiddle to an infomercial in Utah's home market.

    Current weather conditions in Pullman:

    28.1 °F
    Feels Like 23 °F
    Chance of Snow
    70% chance of precipitation

A slick field won't be helpful for White who relies on quickness and agility.

I'm looking forward to this game. We handled snow pretty well last week, but like KamUte said, I'm putting the main burden of the win on our defense. This WSU QB is a talented kid who's riding a good high right now, so they need to get to him and put him in the dirt a few times early on to rattle him and force him to throw early, badly and, preferably, to our corners and safeties.
As for our offense, we all know they're gonna be loading the box to stop White, so I put this on Chow's proven ability to change up the running plays to give White the chance to do what he does best: grab the ball, read the routes, squirt through, and RUN. Hays just needs to keep doing what he's doing: handing it to White and keeping the defense honest with a few good throws when they focus too much on the run.
For special teams, they just need to not fumble punt returns and the kickers just need to keep doing awesome.
All in all, definitely a winnable game, but not one to take lightly. Utes 28 WSU 17 GO UTES!

What is your problem? I'm not the biggest BYU fan in the world, but seriously! Are you so little that you can't see what BYU is in the middle of trying to do? Everyone who is a rational college football fan knows that BYU couldn't just schedule powerhouses right off the bat. It would be nice to see some better teams than New Mexico State, but they have to start somewhere, right?

"It is on KJZZ and it is on a delay."

Yeah it's pretty lame. But you know what would be much, much worse? Not being in the Pac 12 and having four bye weeks in a row, and being so upset about it that we feel the need to get on another team's articles to throw out tv smack :)

  • mussingaround Palo Alto, CA

Relevant programs play weak teams and their games are still nationally televised on ESPN.

Irrelevant programs play weak teams and their games are taped-delayed locally on KJZZ.

The truth hurts -- being a bottom-dweller in a big boy conference doesn't make you a big boy.

Utah should win this game. The defense is outstanding, lets hope the offense continues to play like they have over the last 3 weeks.

    Go UTES!!

    @mussingaround

Relevant programs prove it on the field, so do irrelevant programs.

The truth hurts, 2-8 vs teams above .500 in the last 24 games makes BYU irrelevant.

Last time I checked, Utah wasn't fighting to stay out of the cellar. Your inferiority complex is showing. Beating up on New Mexico School of Trucking doesn't make you a big boy. The truth hurts sometimes.

I agree wholeheartedly! That's exactly what I thought... as I read the comments on the BYU gameday. Why so many trolls for a team that is supposedly irrelevant.

Don't know about up on the Palouse, but here next door in the Columbia basin, it is cold, wet, sloppy and snowing well enough that you probably won't complete a 40 yard pass.

My respect goes with Coach Whit and his men. My heart goes with the university that means so much to Eastern Washington. My condolences go to you loyal Ute fans who are represented so poorly by the brats.

And my apologies go out for my own brats on your board. Here's hoping for a more civil future.

The truth hurts, 6-9 vs D1-A teams above .500 in the last 26 games makes Utah irrelevant.

  • FL UTE LARGO, FL

Haughty Cougars, is Utah is irrelevant, what does losing 54-10 to us make you?

  • Uteology East Salt Lake City, Utah
    Nov. 19, 2011 2:14 p.m.

    @deductive reasoning

I think we can both agree that...

    1. 6-9 is more relevant than 2-8

    2. 54-10 win is more relevant than a 54-10 loss

    3. PAC-12 schedule (Utah SOS #34) is more relevant than a WAC-lite schedule (BYU SOS #97)

    4. Finally, 7 of 10 is more relevant then 3 of 10

  • jarka-rus Layton, Utah
    Nov. 19, 2011 2:25 p.m.

haaha make no mistake Wazzzzooo is weak and irrelevant. They lost 5 in a row before beating the ASU devils who are now exposed as another fraud Pac team(who destroyed the Utesies remember). This game is no different then playing a 1-aa team.

  • Uteology East Salt Lake City, Utah
    Nov. 19, 2011 3:00 p.m.

    @deductive

Actually Utah vs D1 teams above .500...

    2008: 6-0
    2009: 3-3
    2010: 4-3
2011: 1-3 As of today, UCLA and Pitt at 5-5 can still get 7 wins (3-3??)

So as of today over 2 seasons:
    Utah is 5-6
    BYU 2-8 over same period

    3 seasons: Utah 8-9
    4 seasons: Utah 14-9

  • jarka-rus Layton, Utah

Yeah whoopee, SOS smeshh o s.

A team with an SOS of 13 beat a team with SOS of 5. ASU is 27 but just lost to a team with SOS of 44. And Clemson(27) is being drilled right now by NC state who isn't even on the Sagarin, Not much more than mumbo jumbo and algorithms, Doesn't mean anything.

You are correct. All that matters is head to head. That game was 54-10 at LES and your team quit. Ouch.

  • jarka-rus Layton, Utah
    Nov. 19, 2011 3:41 p.m.

    54-10

zzzzzzzz You should change your screen name to broken record or beating a dead horse. How does that change the fact you aren't going to the Rose bowl or conf. championship? How did it feel to get blown out 2 games in a row? That's right your obsession with Byu is the only thing that matters. you would be jumping for joy going 1-11 if that meant the one win was against Byu, And Byu went 11-1.
Keep preaching that 54-10 in 20 years. We still got the NC.

  • Osgrath Provo, UT
    Nov. 19, 2011 3:50 p.m.

I don't think the weather will hurt John White IV's ability to run any more than it will hurt WSU's ability to throw. This kind of game conditions will always favor the defense, and there is no question which team has the superior defense.

I expect that the Utes will win easily. So far, defensively, they look good. But we have all seen the Utes D shine in the snow before. The defense is moving the ball, although blocks in the back out of bounds are not good, but I suppose it shows intensity.

As for the juvenile insults flying back and forth here, I have to ask, "Why?" As a BYU fan, how does it ever hurt me that this game is on KJZZ instead of CBS? (other than the lack of HD). For their first year in an AQ conference, the Utes are doing about as I expected. They're in the fight for the Southern Division championship.

  • Osgrath Provo, UT
    Nov. 19, 2011 3:51 p.m.

Meanwhile, given the lack of time BYU in putting together a schedule, they are doing OK. I wish they could have beaten both Texas teams, but an under-performing quarterback and a new and learning-on-the-job offensive coordinator made that not possible.

I take no joy in the Ute's struggles this year. What kind of person really gets off on others' misfortunes, anyway? There is a word for that: "Schadenfreude," joy in the misfortunes of other. Whether Utah wins or not today doesn't affect the Cougars and any way. Whether the Cougars win tonight has no impact on the Utes.

But people are going to continue to yap at each other, I suppose, something they should have given up on the elementary school playgrounds. It doesnt require a lot of maturity to write things you would never say to a persons face.

  • wardu Fallon, NV
    Nov. 19, 2011 3:53 p.m.

Utes are looking like a PAC 10.2 Champ after 1 quarter of this game. Refs cutting the newbies some slack. Hays never had forward progress and WSU should have had a safety.

What a gritty victory for the Utes. John White is great, and he has another year ahead of him. The defense had its ebbs and flows, but in overtime, when it was crucial, they dominated. Good job.

I'm glad the Cougars won't have to play in a blizzard tonight.

It's sooo much better to start at 8:30pm in Utah when nobody on the East Coast or Midwest is watching, if they cared to begin with.
