Lone Peak! way to go. No one in the state is even clos. The championship game
was a blow out. Lone Peak Dominated! It was like the Varsity vs little
league!I was totally bored after the 2nd quarter. It's
almost like Lone Peak is in it's own class way above anyone.
Great job Lone Peak. That was a bigger blow out then last years championship
game. There was no real competition. Almost embarrassing
how easy that win was.
Congrats LP. You guys absolutely dominated the Silverwolves. You'd think with
what all the Fremont fans were saying before the game it would have been closer.
It will be interesting to see if all those fans give credit where credit is due
to a clearly superior team.
Best team of thhe year, wins it! congrats to the First team to win a state
championship football title for Lone Peak high school! Congrats!!
Great game by the States best quarterback and even a better young man. Congrats
Chase. You deserved the championship.
The final state standings are as follows1 lone peak... Undefeated2
Logan... Undefeated3 East... Beat Fremont 4 hurricane...
Undefeated5 Syracuse.... Beat fremont
Syracuse didnt beat Fremont. Jordan did however so they should be rated.
Ugh!My hats off to Chase Hansen and the rest of the Lone Peak team. You
whooped us and deserve to be called Champions. I really thought we could contain
him, hang close and win it down the stretch but it just wasn't meant to be.Thanks for the memories Silver Wolves, it's been a great run and you
have no reason to hang your heads. For you seniors, good luck with your
future ventures and remember you'll always be in our hearts. And the rest of you
we'll see next season.
Lone Peak won dominantly in the championship game but to say that nobody is
close is absurd. It wasn't like Lone Peak steam rolled through the playoffs.
They barely beat Northridge and should've lost to Jordan. Fremont is a good team
but they clearly don't have the offense to match the other top teams in 5A.
Congrats to Lone Peak for winning but they are not head and shoulders above
everyone else, especially when there are 2 other teams that finished undefeated
Good job LP what a season! You deserve all the recognition you've received and
then some! Hansen and crew were too much for anyone to handle. So much more than
a one man team the talent and speed of the whole team was incredible to watch!
Hats off to Fremont on a tremendous season! Your community should be proud!
No actually they shouldn't have lost to Jordan. There is literally not one good
explanation for that statement. Lone Peak made more plays than Jordan when it
counted. It's absurd to sit here a week later and say they should have lost.
They are the best team in the state no questions asked.
great job Lone Peak. One thing for sure. Lone Peak steam rolled
Fremont. There is no question who has the vastly superior team. Fremont was totally out classed.
Congrats Knights! There are some great programs in Utah 5A football and you
beat everyone you played. Chase you are the best quarterback in the state,
you're an amazing athlete, student and young man. Thanks Tony! Great season,
couldn't have done any of this without you.
Good game LP. Hansen kid is one tough gunslinger with wheels. Very hard to
Did I read that right? 233 RUSHING yards? Goodness.Welcome to the
Pac 12 Chase. We're excited for you.
No questions asked hsfootballfan? I have a question-how do you know they are the
best in the state? They are apparently the best in 5A based on winning the
championship but how do you know they are better than Logan or Hurricane? Did
they play either of them? 5A tends to have the attitude that they are the best
in the state regardless of what any other classification does. I believe that
Logan would give LP a run for the best team in the state and I couldn't care
leass about Logan. And if Jordan doesn't lose the starting QB and
doesn't get some very questionable penalties on LPs final drive, yes they do
beat Lone Peak.
LP is head and shoulders above the other teams. A couple teams did play them
very good in the playoffs but they didn't win. As far as 2 other teams being
undefeated and close. Having watched all 3 games state championship games, you
can spare me the line of all undefeated teams are close. Hurricane's state
championship is well deserved but being a small school, they would get worked by
LP. As for Logan, played well enough to win but you also wouldn't score enough
points to hang with LP. For those who think the Logan QB is as good as LP's, (
he even made the comment in the other SLC paper that Chase is having as good a
season as me.) but look no further than the state championship game states for
the Logan QB. Rushing 33 yds on 20 attempts and 135 yds passing on 8/23, yikes.
Check out LP's QB stats against a better team. Case closed. Fremont is a good
team but they were fortunate to not have a 50 spot dropped on them tonight.
I admit it. As a BYU fan, I am jealous of Utah for getting Hansen. He seems to
be a good one. Just hope he can carry it over to college.
@kspncrWant wine with that cheese?
Not apparently the best in 5A, they are the best in 5A. And if not for very
questionable calls against Lone Peak on Jordans final drive, the calls you are
referring to don't matter. There are questionable calls in high school
athletics. Lone Peak overcame and made the plays necessary to win the game.
Also, Jordans backup played as good if not better than the freshman. I feel bad
for the backup I thought he should have played all year. As far as
classifications go, there is a reason they are put in place. Most of the time,
key word most, the top 5A teams are clearly better than the other teams in the
state. As far as Logan goes, anything anyone says is completely speculative.
Other than Logan fans and Lone Peak haters, most people believe Lone Peak is the
better team with the best player in the state. Like I said, speculative, but non
biased observers that know what they are talking about, believe Lone Peak would
win and I personally don't think it would be close.
Congrats to all the teams! It was a great play offs and championships this
year. Some outstanding players shone and it was great to see Hurricane finally
get the big win. Chase hansen was a pleasure to watch. It really doesnt matter
who is the very best of all, but I like to just play around with this for
giggles. Here's what I come up with: if Hurricane plays Desert Hills 10 times,
they win 8 of those. If logan plays East 10 times, they win 6. If Lone peak
plays Fremont 10 times, they win 9. If Hurricane plays Logan 10 times, they win
1. If Logan plays Lone Peak 10 times they win 3. But all the state title
winners are indeed #1.
Re hsfootballfan and villeWho cares. Your comments are absurd.
For all you Logan fans taking issue with LP's claim to be the state's best,
consider:1-Lone Peak outscored its opponents by the largest margin
of any team this year (see earlier DN article);2-Lone Peak crushed Bingham
on its home field, ending a 3-year long winning streak, a Miner team that had
blanked Cottonwood 37-0 earlier (Logan sneaked by Cottonwood);3-Lone Peak
and Logan had 3 common opponents: Mt. Crest, Highland, and Bountiful. Both
champions crushed Mt. Crest, beat Highland by 2 touchdowns or so, but Logan
played Bountiful twice, giving up at least 30 points each game. LP's game
against Bountiful? 37-0.4-Logan's 4A victory came in the final seconds
with a 40-yard touchdown over an East High team better known as Troy Bolton's
alma mater. Come on--East High?5-The only time a 4A champion was the best
in the state was during the Timpview glory years and specifically 2006 when
Covey, Unga, Reynolds and Ashworth played together for them--a team that beat LP
42-0 in the championship.
Obviously there is a lot of people who care or I wouldn't have answered the
questions. What is someone from st. George even commenting for? If you don't
care, don't read/post. It's absurd.
Serenity Now, your #5 "point" is laughable. Not because that team
wasn't amazing because they were, but because you tried to pass that statement
off like it was some sort of hard fact. It isn't. That is 100% your opinion,
and nothing else. The division system has never, and will never be a
measurement of skill. That is a common, and frankly ignorant misinterpretation
of the system. People see the "5" and think "Well... 5 is
greater then 4 so that must be it!". The only cold hard "fact"
is that there are no facts. Now if we ever had the "Utah Bowl" where
the division champions played each other to find out who was best then you might
have something to go on.Truth is most years the smaller divisions
field teams that are completely capable of running with the "big
boys". 3A teams often beat 4A. 4A teams often beat 5A. Juan Diego last
year beat Springville, who beat a undefeated Timpview, who slaughtered Alta. JD
would of likely dismantled a bunch of 5A schools had they of been given the
chance.Bottom line is this. LP is amazing. Logan is amazing. Both
could beat the other.
Congrats athletes, Touchdown Tony, staff and students! And thanks so much to
the LP community! What great support! When LP opened 15 seasons ago,
there was not the unified community support that was so evident in the stands at
Friday's game. Lone Peak's patrons live in Alpine, Highland, Cedar Hills, parts
of Pleasant Grove, parts of Lehi, and even parts of Draper (Suncrest). Each city
had their own identity and were very competitive with each other. There were no old men talking about their glory days on the LP football team,
wearing crusty old ball caps and 20 year old letter jackets. There was just a
motivated football coaching staff, determined boys, and supportive parents.
Little kids didn't run around in little league Knights shirts because there were
no programs yet. Previous coaches, led by Monte Morgan and Tom
Longenecker, set a high standard, the first years of players were talented and
hard-working and the program was successful. But community unity has been a
long time coming. It took 15 years, but finally the fans, students
and team came together. Thanks to ALL for becoming the LP community I've been
Hansen is the real deal. He obviously did what needed to be done all season.
Without a doubt Jordan played LP as well as anyone this year and who knows what
would have happened without a critical injury to a young man who will be the
real deal too. Perhaps the championship game was last weekend. Looks like it
on paper. If Alta wouldn't have had three critical players hurt in the first
round it's likely Fremont wouldn't have been at Rice Eccles today. Bottom line
is Lone Peak is the champion, they will have the trophy and they played well
enough to deserve and earn it. They have a year to enjoy it.
Great game Lone Peak! We are very proud of you. It is not easy to go undefeated
and you did it! After our last two games I was a bit surprised that Fremont was
such an easy opponent. We nearly lost to Jordan and Northridge, so I didnt
expect a cupcake opponent in the final, but that is what we got. The game was
not even as close as the lopsided score would suggest. Fremont may be the fourth
or fifth best team in the state, but they certainly are not the second best. I
thought it was interesting how Fremonts coach blamed the loss on poor execution
(implying that he had an excellent game planif only the kids could execute it).
Classy comments, coach. Way to stand behind your players. Chase probably could
come up with 475 reasons why the plan to contain him was not all that good. If
it were not for some outstanding plays from some of your superstars, you would
have lost 55-0.
kspncr | 10:14 p.m. Nov. 18, 2011 "I have a question-how do you know
they are the best in the state"And how is it that you know for a fact
that Jordan would have won the game, have some kind of crystal ball that we
don't? LP is the best team in the state, with the best player. Who had the
better day yesterday? Nelson or Hansen. That's an easy one.....Where
is Papi? not surprising this poster wouldn't back up all the smack talk. but
Fremontsilverwolf. I have a lot of respect for you manning up and getting on
here and giving credit to LP for their dominating win, now you know how we
Bingham fans felt as we watched in awe as Hansen did what he does. We won't see
another QB as talented for a long time if ever. I wish him and Vigil good luck
in their college careers.
Congrats to the Lone Peak Knights, undefeated 5A champs. The championship game
was played last week however between them and the Jordan Beetdigger, and what an
exciting match that was. That game clearly focused LP and they brought the
hammer for Fremont.
Okay, to sit here and say that jordan would have beat LP if not for some
questionable calls is completely bogus. First off, if not for one completely
bogus call on lp on 4th and 20 when jordan was ready to punt, there would not
have been a final drive. 3 knees and the game is over. Second off, the
questionable call on jordan was on first down with lp at the 20. You honestly
think you were going to stop them from scoring without that call? Get real, no
chance. LP is the state champions. Undefeated. Now it is time for chase and
talon to repeat in basketball :)
What the 5-A title game did was to showcase Chase Hansen and his remarkable
skills. Every time I watched him on KJZZ this year, he was a man among boys.
We're all looking forward to seeing you for a lot of Saturdays to come in the
PAC 12.Go Chase, and Go Utes!!
Too many people are giving LP too much credit.Get a dose of reality!Hansen is the real deal, no question about it.BUTWithout him, LP
does not even make it to Rice-Eccles.The supporting cast has helped him,
but without him, they clearly have no chance!Too many times has Chase
completely taken over the game and single handedly won it.Yes LP you are
state champions, thanks to the UHSAA board of appeals and a caveman.
Just got done watching a replay of the game, I was hoping the outcome would be
different, it wasn't. Lone Peak still whooped us.Well, it's
basketball season now...
ohIknow And obviously Vigil is a one man team for Fremont. Once they
had to pass it was very clear that their Qb's are not very good. Most high
school teams have a few great players they ride. look at Logan, Nelson is the
team. Bingham had to rely too much on RB Palepoi. Not sure what your point is.
Almost any team in the playoffs, you could point to one or two players that got
them there. We all heard from Fremont fans how "Offense sells tickets but
Defense wins championships". LP blew that saying and theory to bits.
FremontsilverwolfLOL thanks I'm beginning to like you, I watched the
Bingham/Fremont game and think the same thing. But It never fails that I always
see Vigil scampering 80 yds to the house.
Outstanding job Lone Peak!
@ohIknowAre you the hardly heard from "caveknights" of old and
still crying over Chase and his appropriate transfer to Lone Peak from AF?Get over it already, it has been over 2 years ago.Chase is a great
player and even greater young man.Get a life and quit your non-stop
complaining about Chase and his successful transfer from AF.He came to a
better program with far better Coaching and an administration that supports its
athletics. AF spends more on their Band than any of their sports programs and it
shows. Now go and support the AF Band and be proud of it. Role on Lone
Congrats to the Best team of the year!! LP won em all with class and as a team.
Hansen is Mr. Football this year, but there are a lot of very talented young
men on that team. Fremont, great season! You played well all year, but LP was
too much for everyone this year. A lot of fun this year, congrats to all the
young men who have given us a lot of fun competative entertainment this year!!
Thanks jarka-rus. Yea as much as it hurts to admit it....well I already have a
couple times. lol!Us fans from all the schools that were contenders will
go sit in the corner, lick our wounds and come back next season for more. It was
another great season, thanks again Silverwolves. One thing I KNOW
that Fremont excelled at was the tailgate party. Well done and thanks so much to
you folks that put it together.
Lets not talk about the Chase transfer anymore. Hes a great football player and
wouldve made any team a title contender. Hes the best football player in the
State and deserves more than a bunch of people talking about transfers and
I have been wondering the same thing as Jarka-rus. Where is he? (you know
who)Wait, this just in. Chopper 5 has just flown over RES and
spotted a lonely blue-clad fan still sitting at the 50-yard line yelling loudly
. . . at somebody, anybody. Is that you man? Go home. It's over. Nothing
will change. That must have been like deja-vous all over again.I
just watched that game again. That is one serious can of whoop-stuff that LP
opened up yesterday. Yeah, we would know. Mr Hansen brought a similar can to
Bingham. But we got over it, and you will too. LP was simply the better team.
Much better. The sting goes away - eventually. But first, get out of
the cold. Have a hot bowl of soup to warm up. Crow is optional, though in this
case it should be mandatory.
Congratulations to LP. No question Chase Hansen is a great leader and the best
on that team. But football is a team sport and it takes everyone giving all
they've got to win. That whole team was a well-oiled machine. One example is
when Chase starts running everyone down field looks for someone to block. I
love watching that type of football.
razorback,Awesome comment. Amen.
Congratulations to Lone Peak. You guys are without question the best football
team in the state, but don't say that no one is even close. We all saw your
game against Jordan last week. Though you can compare Logan and Lone Peak, I
think we all know that Lone Peak is the better team, but it is not always that
way @Serenity remember when Logan beat Skyline in the regular season and then
Logan went on to win the 3A State Title and Skyline won 5A. Honestly the lines
between 3A,4A,and 5A are starting to get a lot more blurry than seasons in the
past. Anyways Congrats again to Lone Peak. That Chase Hansen is one special
Good Job Lone Peak!! Great year you all enjoyed!Sad that Deseret
News is stifling posts in an arbitrary and capricious manner. It is my sincere
hope that posts are allowed that fully comply with DN's written standards vice
being left un-posted and un-replied!
Ya know, sometimes you are just wrong. Chase Hansen is a great high school
football player and showed that yesterday. Congrats to him on almost single
handedly winning the state championship. You made a believer out of me. We had
no answers for him, and he couldn't be stopped. I'm excited to watch him with
the Utes.Congrats to Fremont on another great season, you made your
school, community, and fans proud.
Thank you SUPERTONGANMAN for making a logical post. The LP/Jordan game came down
to whichever offense had the ball at the end with enough time to score. Both
teams marched up and down the field until time ran out. As far as 3A,4A and 5A
comparisons, the lower classifications win frequently. Many 3A teams beat 4A and
5A teams this year just like they do quite often. Hurricane beat Skyline and
West Jordan this year and Delta beat T-Ville, to name a few. With the population
expanding and more and more schools being built to replace older schools, the
talent gap is shrinking rapidly.
Great Job Lone Peak! Parents Congrats!!Fremont Coaching Staff: 67
Defensive plays....brilliant strategy!
Hansen better get a legit QB look at Utah... He is a leader ... They need that
Chase is an amazing young man, and he deserves a lot of credit in Lone Peak's
wins! Without him, who knows what would have happened. But I want people to
think about Lone Peak's defense yesterday... think about Brodi Barry and the
difference he made. Hansen gives credit to his O-line and his defense, and he
should, because without them, he would do nothing. He knows it. By the way, I
know Chase very well, and he is a neat young man and he willingly gives credit
to those on his team. He KNOWS this is a team sport and is very well aware that
he could not have done this without his receivers.
Lone Peak was the superior team by far. Hansen is outstanding. He had his way
with a defense that was talked about quite a bit leading up to this game. He
actually reminds me of the Fremont QB (Hannum) who took the Silverwolves to the
title game in 1995-1996. Hannum, like Hansen, was an exceptional passer and
would rather run you over than run around you. The only team to challenge and
confuse Hansen in the playoffs this year was Northridge. The NR approach is
probably the only approach that would work to contain him. I wonder what their
secret was because nobody else seems to know. Even when you do contain him, he
still finds a way to win. When you dont, he beats you by three scores. He is a
classy kid who may have a legitimate chance to play QB at the U.
Congratulations on winning state Lone Peak! After Hansen threw that
amazing corner route to Hannemun, I had a feeling it was going to be a long day.
It was!Hansen deserves alot of credit for making plays, but I feel
that the whole team stepped up and contributed in a big way. Shumways pick on
that option pitch was awesome, he is defintely an amazing athlete. Fremont congratulations on a great year! already counting the the weeks until
As said all week before this game, the Big Dogs would be the game changers. I
not only want to give Chase Hansen a ton of credit but the O-line from LP
stepped up big to stop the Fantastic 4! Congrats Lone Peak
Attended all three games.Hansen is a man. Agree that he is the major
factor for LP.Vigil is too. Actually, Vigil kept things close until
hobbled and eventually sidelined.Too many negative comments from
many of you non-player types, i.e. Fremont QB was not very good. He simply may
not have had his best day. It happens. Cut people some slack. He was apparently
good enough to help them get to the finals. Also, I'd keep an eye on Fremont's
#6. All Star quality kid.
Congrats Lone Peak. To say the least you absolutely killed us. Thank you Fremont
for all the great memories. Chase Hansen is a beast I just wish he would go play
for my Cougars instead of Utah.
I can give you 7 reasons why Chase Hansen picked the UTES over the Kitten's, I
will treat these 7 reasons like 7 Turn overs being #1, #2 I can give you 54 more
reasons after the 7 if you like? 54-10. #3 PAC 12, #4 Automatic Bowl Eligible or
shall I say National Championship Eligible every year not playing for the Fiesta
or Sugar which they have BOTH already. #5 being coached by one of the top 10
BEST current college coaches Coach Whittingham. #6 No 2 QB system, who do I
start coach Whitt doesn't play that game. If Chase is the man he will earn and
get the job. #7 No Honor code to violate. Just kidding I think the honor code is
an awesome thing to have in Junior High. But 75% of BYU players violate all the
time but who am I to judge. It's there and at the U it's not. But Chase is a
great kid and would have his honor code for his own to up hold. It's sad if you
really need a piece of paper to enforce your belief just saying. I'm a cougar
fan also. GO UTES
@Football PROHave you ever even met Chase Hansen, do you even know
him? Okay, I didn't think so. Your points are dumb. Your play on words =
SoUtHapa I saw Fremont live against Bingham, and just cuz I am not a
"player" type doesn't mean I can't judge a good player or not. and
even if, 37 passing yds against Syracuse. 0 tds and 1 int. You don't need to be
a player to know that isn't a good stat line. And when you watched them against
Hansen it was pretty evident who has the QB skills. It was Vigil that got
Fremont to the finals, not their passing prowess. Preator is a great runner I'll
agree with that, he's not a QB. Fremont should move him to RB next year to
Okay, let's back up. I didn't say the QB got them anywhere, but that he helped.
I never saw him anywhere but at the finals but I sat amongst his fans as our DH
boys would also be on the west side of the stadium to follow the 5A game. The
Fremont fans I sat near were very classy. Their QB was struggling but they
weren't throwing him under the bus, they simply said he has had better games and
that this wasn't a true reflection of his ability. Syracuse demonstrated that
they had one of the toughest defenses to do anything against in the playoffs.
And, no one compared him with Hansen, except you. Finally, if Preator is
#6, yes, he is a player. Actually, he's not a bad QB. He had a decent release
and threw with some zip on the ball. Could be a consideration for next year?
Where is Papi????
