Another interpretation is that Romney was giving Perry some more rope with which
to hang himself. I bet Romney knew very well that energy was the dept. Perry was
trying to think of. He offered EPA because it would be more unpopular to cut
that than energy, and make Perry look even more foolish.
Perhaps Mitt's reluctance to go "full nasty" at an opponent means that
the post-nomination campaign could be a little more civil and a little less
contentious. What a great day that would be - a contest based on the issues. OK,
knowing who's behind today's GOP and what they want, I won't hold my breath.
The Liability of niceness? Really? First of all any man that will
clean someone else's garage instead of sitting on his butt in the shade like the
rest of us would do is truly phenomenal! Can you hear yourself
thinking: yes our country needs to return to civility, yes, we need a leader
with integrity, yes we need a problem solver, yes, we need a hard worker, yes we
need a good ambassador, yes we need someone who puts the country first, yes we
need someone who can unite a divided country. Yes, we need someone of high
intelligence and experience. Yes, we need someone who is not condescending to
the other half of the country's ideals and opinions and understands that
compromise is essential to accomplish anything in a democracy. Yes, we need
someone who will not embarass us in the world arena. Yes, we need a president
with at least some background in turning failed enterprises around. I could go
on. But when that candidate is standing clearly before us in one
neat package we say No, he's too perfect? In that case, we truly deserve what we
Are we discussing Mr. Boring Flip-Flop? Nice? Yeah, but so boring and
obviously on every side of any issue. Now he wants to be Mr. Macho
and invade Iran. Talking tough doesn't suit Mitt Romney. He comes across as
unreal and fake. However, in his quest to be President of the United States, he
has shown that he will do anything, ANYTHING, to advance his cause. Now he is
trying desperately to be transformed into Mr. Tea Party because he can't get
anywhere higher than 25% among the angry, Republican evangelical base.As Jon Stewart so correctly characterized Mitt Romney: He is Beige in
everything he is. When the Republicans clamor for anger and excitement, who
will they end up settling for? Why, Mr. Dull Suit, the guy who fires you from
your job and then turns around and forecloses on your house!
i also am unsure that epa was a helpful response but that he would offer
anything is remarkable---i am aware of another quite normal activity
romney got involved in---at a home of a friend he visited, there was a group
attempting to remove a very large tree stump---mitt borrowed some gloves and got
into the hole to help dig and chop and repeated the process again when his turn
came up before the stump was out---
Mitt has been pretty nasty when talking about Obama. The truth is,
Mr. Romney needs to do something other than just complain about Obama. That's
what all the candidates do (except for Paul and Huntsman). Romney needs to
convince us that he could do better. What are Mr. Romney's plans?
What are ol Mitt ol boy's policies? We need specifics. Not the same
ol mindless "tax cuts for the rich" rhetoric. We need to know that he
can do something other than flip flop on everything and bash Obama.
It is hard to picture Romney as Mr. Nice. He seems more like a savvy used car
salesman who will say or do what it takes to make the sale and pocket a buck.
@The Real Maverick and others who criticize Romney: have you read his book or
been to his website? Are you waiting for the media to give you his proposals
and plans? That's not going to happen. The mainstream media and Fox News are
too busy promoting the idea that Romney is a flip flopper to ever take the time
to look any deeper. You will have to do some research on your own to be fully
informed about Romney. Get your info from the source rather than secondary
sources with an ax to grind.
Re: Mc | 11:39 a.m. Nov. 16, 2011 West Jordan, UTThere are several
videos on the web regarding Romney stating his before-and-after positions on
various issues which might be enlightening. We will have to see how
he explains himself to the Independents who decide elections. Perhaps this is
why he has been so reluctant to cozy up to the Tea Party until recently. And for a guy who has become pretty bellicose in promising to "keep
Iran from gaining nuclear weapons" without saying how he proposes to do
this differently from Barack Obama, Independents are in no mood to launch
another war and send American ground forces in to die, much less investing in a
multi-trillion dollar exercise in futility.
