Football is a tough, tough sport. As much as I obviously hate to see Nelson
hurt, I think that was a good, clean hit-- as difficult as it was to watch. I
thought the "push" of Nelson back down after the hit, while the
defender was getting up, was more questionable than the hit itself. Get well
I agree. In watching the game I thought it was a clean hit. The defender then
pushed off as he got up. I hope Riley gets well and can return to the game,
likely will at Hawaii. Broken ribs can and do heal. Go Cougars.
I cant beleieve the D News actually prints this stuff. What a cheesy article.
You would have thought this colorful dramatic description was refering to a
national championship game. I mean really?? You realize the punter could start
at QB and beat the upcoming teams on the schedule, right?
My first thought when I saw the second hit was how eerily it was to "Sam
Bradford", Cowboys Stadium a couple of years ago...Stuff
happens, I thought it was totally legal and clean. A well delivered, inspired
WHAM. They play the game to see who wins. Step on the field, you're fair
Tough football player. It is hits and injuries like that that make a QB think
twice about waiting that extra millisecond before throwing the ball. I hope he
is back for Hawaii, but likely will still be pretty sore. They'll need him.
As much as I love BYU football, this just shows some of the problems facing the
team this year. How is it that Riley took, not one, but two hard hits in this
game? BYU, by comparison, hardly got to their QBs, and when they did, they
basically ushered them to the ground. They were clean hits, no question, but the
O line just didn't do their job against a vastly inferior opponent. It's good to know that Heaps can still complete some balls against a second
tier, small college opponent.
Always said it, will always believe it!Riley is the man! A great
football player.Hang in there Riley.
As a person that has had broken ribs in a contact sport, I can say Riley will be
a better man than most if he plays at all before the bowl game. That is a
painful thing to happen, and coming back early can be very hard to do. It's a
very, very painful injury. It hurts to breathe, run, laugh, sneeze, and even get
out of bed, so I'll be rooting for Riley to get better fast, but only fast
enough to actually heal. Best of luck to you Riley!
ConferenceofChampions ...and your not biased at all...If
you don't like it, don't read it... and then you wouldn't have to comment on it.
"But Cougar Nation now knows that what transpired with 8:26 remaining in
the first quarter Saturday will go down in the annals of history as The Play
That Hospitalized Riley Nelson." Really? Overblown just a little
don't you think?
The 'push off' as mentioned earlier should have been a 'personal foul' after the
play in my opinion, doesn't matter now but you can clearly see the official in
the background on the replay. The actual hit could have gone either
way and it just fell to the wayside and that's football.Get well
soon Nelson. And Jake... the word is 'mum'... keep it humble.
