This game will tell us a lot about the new look Cougs! Hopefully, the front
line will be as dominant as expected, and the guards will limit turnovers and
play tough D. If so, we could steal a W in Logan. I wish this game was being
play two month from now. I think the Cougs will be a lot better team by mid
season, after they've played some games together.@Chris B - before
you post your hatred for the Cougs one more time, please let us know why the
Utes are not playing the Agggies this year.
That's a fine byu game day article...but where's the AGGIE game day article?
CougfanTX: I agree that this team is still in the process of learning to play
together. USU is not a good opening game. While I hope it will be close, I
don't expect the cougs to pull off the win on the Aggies home floor. But as
always, Coach Rose will have them playing at their best when conference play
begins. Although picked third by the media, I expect them to take the
I too wish this game were in 2 months because Stew will have them playing very
well by then. Both clubs have 9-10 new guys so it is even no matter what. The
big bonus is it is at the Spectrum where the young guys for byu will be in for a
real treat. Ags by 7 69-62
Go Aggies... A lot of new faces for the aggies and they will be a lot better as
well a month from now. Occupy the spectrum will be in full force.
Two very good programs with two fabulous coaches. Morrill is really an under-
appreciated coach in college basketball. And BYU is very fortunate to have
Rose. I have so much respect for both. Should be a great game.
KCSG? what station is that? is that a local station that I can get with a
Too many changes for both teams to call this one. The odds makers favor USU by
1.5. Two things we do know. Both teams will be well coached and that the
pandemonium in the Spectrum will rock like there's no tomorrow.Go
Two teams who have changed a great deal from last year. USU will rely more on
guard play this year and BYU will rely more on their big men. Both big changes
from last year. I expect some sloppy play, a lot of turnovers, a lower scoring
game(60's) and for the intensity to be through the roof. Still, they are by far
the best two teams in the state, this year and for the last decade and it should
be a real battle.
The good thing about this game is that BYU is expected to lose so if we do, then
so be it but if BYU wins then its egg in the face again for Utah State.

CougFaninTX,I wish we were playing USU. However, we are playing
programs like UCLA, Arizona, USC and we just dont have many openings for
non-AQ's. With that said - I'm not saying Utah will be any good
this year. The difference though between byu and Utah? When Utah is has a good year - it's fighting for a national championshipWhen byu has a good year - its ending the season ranked. This
applies football as well.In recent past, Utah has made several final
four runs, a trip to the championship game, 2 undefeated football seasons, 2 BCS
wins, a #2 final ranking. In recent past, byu has a single sweet 16
appearance, 0 undefeated football seasons, 0 BCS game, 0 BCS wins. When Utah has an up year in either sport - we're relevant nationally. When byu has an up year in either sport - you can claim state supremacy for
that year.Big differenceBig big big differenceBig 12 call yet?
@ Chris B,Is kind of hard to claim "no openings" when you play
San Diego Christian College. And if you're going to lose to Division 2
teams, you'd kill our RPI anyway. This game will be intense, should be a
toss up. The only reason the Aggies should be favored (at all)is location. Other
than that, this one is too close to call.
Chris B,If the utes are so great, why do you spend every hour of the
day reading and commenting on BYU sports articles? I know you wish you were a
I honestly see BYU as having the competitive edge in this game. Sure they have
some new faces but USU has even more. The home crowd should inspire the young
USU team and make it a exciting game. I think this will be a very hard fought
game, but I think BYU could potentially take advantage of the situation and
steal a game in the Spectrum this year. I guess we will see and I hope to be
proved wrong. Go Aggies!
@International Cougar,We as Utah fans can call it like it is. That
is the difference. Our football team had some big struggles this year
and this year will go down as "Tough start to Pac 12 play, great finish.
Destroyed byu. Overall OK(not great) year"We also can have
confidence in future BCS games as we've already been there, done that, TWICE!Likewise our basketball team will get worked this year and it will take
coach K a couple years to get to the top of the Pac 12.Now let's
consider byu fans.....Football from byu fan's perspective"Utah game was a fluke""Texas got lucky""TCU was fluke"No rational thinking in admitting you got
worked by the only 3 good teams you played all year. You will finish
the season beating nobodies and convince yourself you have a BCS/National
Championship shot in the offseason.
Pane will be the difference in the game. He can get to the basket anytime he
wants and he will have the bigs from byu in foul trouble. Can't wait to get to
the game! GO AGGIES.........
This is going to be a very close game. If there is one wildcard its the fact
that this game is being played in the Spectrum.
@Chris BNo room for an in-state non-conference rival, but plenty of room
for Adams State, San Diego Christian, Montana St, Idaho St and Portland? Come
on, admit it, Utes were looking for some non-conference teams that they might be
able to compete with and they knew they couldn't compete with the Aggies.
Although, if the Utes got beat by Adams State at home, I'm not sure who they can
beat this year. To answer your assertion, here's football from a
real BYU fan's perspective . . . we're still a work in progress. We're not as
good as I thought we'd be.We were competitive against TX and TCU.
If one or two plays had gone differently, we had a chance of beating TX.
Against TCU, our punting game collapsed. We outplayed TCU in every offensive
category, but gave up important field position. Against U, I offer no excuses
other than to say the game got away from us. I'd love a "do over"
with Nelson as the QB though if you think you can arrange it?I
wouldn't be surprised if the Y returns the favor and beats U at BB by 44 points
I think it is to USU's advantage not to play utah this year. Not because utah
would have a snowballs chance in you know where of beating USU but because USU
really doesn't need anymore RPI killers on its schedule. If USU beats BYU their
RPI is increased and it is a great win. If USU beats utah their RPI actually
drops and it is no more relevent a win than beating the other weakest team on
USU's schedule.Playing utah in basketball really holds no value for
USU or BYU other than the easy and guaranteed victory gives the fans of both
schools an amusing little thing to humiliate utah "fans" with for a
few days. But of course after a few days BYU and USU fans simply move on because
there is no real accomplishment to speak of in beating utah. Unlike when utah
beat BYU this year in football because that actually means something so utah
"fans" will be bringing it up for years.Just the
difference between being a program of relevence and one that simply wishes it
>where's the AGGIE game day article?I don't know. Doesn't Logan
have a newspaper for stories of exclusively local interest?
Tonight's game streaming available at ESPN3 and also check UtahStateAggies
website per a KSL story
The only question USU is going to answer is "What are their chances later
in the season in the NCAA tourny:. And we all know the answer is not good at
all. In fact next to no chance to win. End of story.
