Sorry, thought this was a football article. Isn't Midwestern State one of those powerhouses on Byu's football schedule!!

Right after the game, Coach Rose went up in the stands and talked to Michael Lloyd Jr.'s parents and game his mom a nice hug.

    Very genuine and classy gesture.

BYU is still adjusting to the post-Jimmer era, but they looked good with the starters out there.

The weakest team BYU will face this year is Utah.

The other teams player has a man standing flat footed, guarding a man by sticking one hand in his face. Did we see 2 handed set shots from this team also and how about 4 corner defense. 91-74 is a joke. They drew flies and no one cared o include the other teams players. This is why you need a Mercy Rule, Mercy To The Fan.

BYU tried to strengthen their schedule but had to settle for Division III opponents like the University of Utah. You know, to fill in the gaps.

It's hillarious that Utah basketball has fallen so far that you have to resort to football smack.

BYU uses games against teams like Midwestern State as a tune up.

Utah is used by teams like Southwest Baptist as a tune up.

I have an Hawaiian Foster Son who is a very good 2 Guard, playing for a poor high school team. Coach demands a lot so few want to play. The expectation of No expectation.

With average grades his grandma died, and some girl friend issues, he is having a rough year the saving grace is being an ROTC Cpt and Basketball. My wife and i have raised him and his brother (now in Clifornia doing well enough), for the last 4 years, Both boys are strong Basketball Players his brother making 2nd string all conference with his poor team.

I told the boy to pic a div 3, School with a so-so record and Walk On. He did a year in City Leagues and decided School was after all a great idea.

His brother who listens a little better, I am going to show this picture to and tell him to walk on at this school or one like it. I will not have to explain why?

Hawaii has No JC Basketball Program. So if your half good you have to go to the Mainland to play.

Effort is somthing you should see on every play.

Could a box score please be linked to game columns and articles? It drives me nuts to never get to see a box score with the article. I think a fan of any team could agree with this?

All Big Schols have Small Schools on there play list. No harm in that, My grip is not the School or the Program it the effort or lack of it I saw in the player. If you did that on a JHS Team you should be history.

What's a Midwestern State? Can't we play legitimate team? Is this win part of the official win loss record? Oh, it was an exhibition game, I see. Come on, let's quit scheduling nobodies. Looking at the rosters of the some of the main teams BYU will be playing in their new conference affiliation, we will be getting hammered by bigger, quicker players on at least three of the teams. All I can say is good luck this season. Go Cougars.

    "Can't we play legitimate team?"

No - most of them are afraid to take early season losses that BYU will hand to them.

I loved being able to see BYU live on BYUtv - even if it was only an exhibition game.

The Cougs looked pretty good, especially considering there are 9 Freshman on the team and we lost a couple of key players. I think all of the Freshman got time on the floor, except Carlino who we won't see until mid December.

We got a pretty good sense for who will be the key players last night. I think the only unanswered question is who will start at PG when Carlino becomes eligible. Zylstra did not look as good in the exhibition at PG as his stats from the European tour.

Davies, Hartsock and Collinsworth will get most of the minutes at the 4 and 5 spot, with some time for Sharp.

Abouo, Rogers and Harrison will get most of the minutes at the 2 and 3 spot, with some time for Winder. Harrison does not look like a Frosh - he's very good.

Zylstra and Carlino will get most of the minutes at the 1 spot. I expect Carlino will become the starter as the season progresses.

Austin and Harward both looked good, but should redshirt along with a couple others.

I get a kick out of Y fans that criticize Utah basketball. Sure Utah is restoring their program, but BYU has done NOTHING on the national stage EVER!!!!!!! Utah has had many fine NBA players, still does. Who played in the NBA from BYU since Ainge other than the complete disaster Shawn Bradley? BYU's revenue sports are terrible, that simple.......and they always will be, because certain members of our society will NEVER consider attending BYU. And, without Jimmer you'll never win another NCAA tourney game in my lifetime. Gooooooo Utes!

@mgr63: I get tired of U fans trolling BYU articles and criticizing their fans for making comments.
"Never win another NCAA tourney game in my lifetime." Please, that comment and the fact that you're worried what BYU fans say is just sour grapes.

@sccouger na the fact is that byu says how classy they are and gets on everyone who says anything about their precious little school but can bash and bad talk anyone they want. hahaha. good luck without jimmer. next time you make it farther than utah in any tourney let me know.

Oops, I thought this was football too...I'm getting used to seeing these team names in football articles.

Please God, bring back our old conference..."anything" is better than what we're getting now. Oh, except...at least we can see BYU beat div 2 schools in HD...big time baby, big time.

Utah State is looking to have a very good team, inspite of the fact that we lost a lot of good seniors. Thoseby, Pane, Brunheel, and Reed are really fun to watch. Look for a classic beat down of BYU in the Smith Spectrum! Go Aggies!

mgr63: There were two other former Cougars with Ainge on the World Champion Celtics back in the day. Your BYU basketball history knowledge must be a little lacking. Is that Miller guy working on shooting a 3 pointer during the lockout? My mom can shoot better from the outside than your darling #24.

"certain members of our society will NEVER consider attending BYU."

Yep, that is why BYU has the rare problem of having to reject thousands of applicants each year, maintain 30,000+ students, and have 3 universities open (including one in Hawai'i so people from dozens of country get the chance to attend BYU).

Love how haters hate on this lower division team when their own team is doing the same thing. Hypocrites.

Can't wait for a fun, new season with a new team!

When was the last time Utah did anything on the national basketball stage?

It's hilarious how Utah fans think the college football world began in 2004, but the college basketball world ended the same year.

Having the Concensus National Player of the Year is a pretty big deal to the rest of the college basketball world, even if jealous, Utah trolls can't handle are too blinded by their BYU hatred to see it.

Utah went to the Sweet-16 in 2005.
They had the #1 pick in the NBA the same year.
