During the nineties, the Clinton administration conducted audits of several meat
packing plants. They found that over 90% of the employees in many plants were
illegal aliens. They began assessing fines and beginning criminal investigations
against many of the plants. The meat packing industry complained to congress and
congress immediately defunded the administration's programs. Congress was
controlled by Republicans at the time.Herman Cain is a past
president of the National Restaurant Association, which lobbies vigorously
against tough immigration enforcement. The Republican base may be
vehemently anti illegal immigration, but the corporate wing of the party wants
all the cheap labor it can get. The candidates may be trying to mollify the base
now, but once they are in office, the wishes of the corporate wing will triumph,
as they always do.
I guess it depends upon where you stand with illegal immigration and supporting
the laws of the land.
In a cunning effort to falsely characterize Romney as an immigration hypocrite,
Gerson, as well as Perry, dishonestly distort the facts. Each knows perfectly
well that in his health plan, Romney of Massachusetts was only complying, as
required, with the Federal mandate to render emergency first aid to illegals.
Were Gerson honest, he also would acknowledge the basic fact that it
would be far less costly to American taxpayers if illegals were not here at all,
instead of advancing the false issue of "free benefits" vs. "no
free benefits" to persons who have no respect for this country and its
citizens, and who have no right to be here."But the whole
magnet theory is questionable."Oh is it, Mr. Gerson. So then
WHY ARE THEY HERE? Of COURSE it is because IN THEIR TOTALITY, the
jobs, the various public benefits, the housing, the opportunities to wire money
home, and on and on, very much DO constitute a magnet. Certainly the
"attraction" is NOT based on genuine love and respect for this country
and its values. If it were, they would not be here illegally invading this
country and stealing its children's identities. Instead they would be entering
"But it is the responsibility of political leaders to address this issue
without enflaming it."And who's using the inflammatory
language? Who's doing the "dividing?" Do such untruthful terms as
"vicious," "attack," "ethnic politics,"
"ugly," and "targeting the sick and aspiring" ring a bell?
As far as what Republicans "need" to do, what they need to
do is stick to PRINCIPLE over political expediency. After all, it is about
illegality -- NOT about "ethnicity," the "sick," nor the
It is really not that tough to understand what is happening and why.Neither party wants to lose the Hispanic vote. You think Perry
would be governor of Texas without the Hispanic vote? The GOP has had
numerous opportunity to do SOMETHING, anything about the immigration issue, but
kicked the can down the road. Now that they are no longer in charge, they
scream loudly about the need for reform.Proving, it is much easier
to blame someone else than to do something yourself. Fairly common theme in
politics. Now, these candidates will pander to the base to get the
nomination, and if elected, will do little to attack the problem.
The Obama administration has deported more illeagels in 3 years than Bush ever
., or anything else for that matter. The party of NO does nothing. They have NO
ideas, and have nothing to offer. GOP policies have never worked, and never will
Article summary: The author disparages and denigrates ANY AND ALL attempts to
enforce immigration laws.Apparentally, according to the author, ANY
AND ALL arriving here as trespassers are fully entitled to medical care.He doesn't say how to pay for it though!
If it is wrong to attack the illegals, how about just attacking the employers of
the illegals? Fine them $10,000 for each illegal employee and maybe revoke
their business license if it exceeds some number, such as 50 illegals over a
given amount of time? Wouldn't that get the Liberals on the side of going after
illegals, if it would put the squeeze on businesses? We've got
millions of illegals and millions of unemployed in the US. One would think
Democrats would be interested in getting US workers back on the job, yet they
seem to be coddling the illegals, even as the Republicans have no problem
employing the illegals. Seems like no one actually care about the US citizen.
Maybe we can outsource that caring to another country.
The party of business knows where labour comes from for industries such as food
production and processing. These guys have to talk the talk, but they're never
going to be able to walk the walk.
Romney and Perry need to stop pandering to the lowest common denominator of the
Republican party. These arguments are childish and irrelevant and distract from
the important issues of entitlement and tax reform.
"He doesn't say how to pay for it though! "OK, so, we're
supposed to pay for things?Fine. How about Medicare part D?How about Wars? How about balancing the budget without tax increases?Seems like those on the right only want to "pay" for certain
things.How about a little consistency?
AntiLiar:"Certainly the "attraction" is not based on
genuine love and respect for this country and it's values......."This
quote can very well fit right in with many in government, corporations, finance,
etc. in the United States, who are there only to amass a fortune through
whatever means it takes. We certainly cannot compare the plight of an
immigrant family in their quest for a better life, with these "wealthy,
important" American robber barons.
As regards "ugly," there is nothing uglier than distorting the truth.
So it is "vicious" toward the burglar who would invade one's domicile
to lock one's door at night? "Vicious" toward the would-be carjacker
to secure one's car while driving? "Vicious" tpward the couterfeiter
to carefully examine a hundred dollar bill before accepting it? We should
endorse and turn a blind eye toward such crime based on the half-truth that each
of these would-be criminals are only doing what they're doing in order to
"obtain a better life?" Is not the essential principle THE
SAME, as regards opposition to illegal immigration? "He that entereth not
by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a
thief and a robber." (John 10:1)"What is it about the
immigration issue that brings out the worst in politicians?" Once again, Mr. Gerson deliberately distorts the issue. What's happening is,
politicians are realizing that Americans are sick of foreign nationals illegally
invading this country, spitting on its sovereignty and laws, stealing its jobs,
burglarizing its treasury (they being actual invaders of this country), and
usurping the identities of its children.
@ anti-liar Your domicile? You need to read history. You don't have
clear title. Your argument is without merit.
President Eisenhower deported many in the most successful effort to date. They are criminals. Those who hire them should be prosecuted, fined and spend
6 months in jail at a minimum. Take away the jobs and these people will stay
home and can fight the drug pushers in their own country.
Republican Smoke and Mirrors. They use Illegal Immigration as a Red
Herring to stir up their voitng base -- just like they do with Taxes and
Abortion. Vote for me, I'll do something about it -- then
nothing. They will never do anything to change Illegal Immigration,
Taxation or Abortion.Because they need and heavily rely on those issues
@ Another PerspectiveNice try rationalizing lawbreaking and
lawlessness, but the United States IS a sovereign nation; it DOES have
"clear title" to this land; and those who illegally invade and steal
from it literally ARE thieves and robbers.Incidentally, who can
doubt but that Jesus foresaw this day of astonishing greed in the heart of Zion?
No WONDER he said: "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to
go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of
Alabama's farmers are seeing thier food rot because there's nobody to pick it.
They arn't willing to pay americans enough to entice them to do it. When McCain was running he said that Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for even
$25 and hour. Millions applied but farmers didn't want to pay that much.Farmers vote overwhelmingly republican yet really enjoy picking up their
government subsidy check for 10's of thousands of dollars and just LOVE illegal
workers. So being a republican is really more about being a hypocrite than
principaled isn't it?Pay $25 an hour to only legal workers and the
probelm is solved. For once actually value hard labor.
It's going to get worse and worse until it explodes, if our country keeps
refusing to enforce our immigration laws. Not even amnesty will stop
it. As the people becoming citizens will just be laid off, until business can
find more illegal cheap labor. Amnesty to work will just make
Americans more resentful of the new class of workers that are taking their jobs.
Corporate greed in this country is destroying our stand of living,
our morals, and our belief in right and wrong. Utah's business community is no
different. We need a Honesty Compact.

Headless Bodies' 09/04/10 - By Ben Frumin - Talking Points Memo
Sorry. But claiming someone who you can't even IDENTIFY (what does
an illegal immigrant look like?) does not mean you can lie about what they are
doing. And claiming a group is BE-HEADING people, is pretty extreme.
Who are these ignorant 'washington post group writers?' They act as if we can
afford anything, as if we are all part of the Obama administration. How dare
Romney take a stand against in state tuition for illegals. He is so silly,
doesn't he know that we are doing swimmingly as far as financial matters go?
Doesn't he know that we are no longer a land of laws? Silly, silly.
Pagan, I give, what does an illegal immigrant look like? That's a silly
question. It could be anybody. Someone here illegally does not look any
different than anyone else. It's there status here that is the difference. Illegal immigration brings out the worst in business, the media, all
politicians etc. Let's not limit it.
