Where's the defense that played against Pit and BYU? OVER RATED This team
It's true Pappy. The D that we were all hanging our hats on when our qb went
down---("well, at least our d might make a big play and they won't let
anyone score...") seemed to pack it in last Saturday. Not quit exactly, but
let down after too much time on the field. I've got to hand it to Coach Whit,
though. He tells it like it is and put the responsibility right on his own head.
When a team sees a coach who is willing to blame the problems on himself and his
staff, it's amazing to me that they don't play harder and with more pride (are
you listening O line?)
Whittingham"As coaches, we've got to put him in whatever situation
we've got to put him in to help him be successful."What? Does
this non-sequitur mean you will only insert Hays into the game when Utah has the
ball on the opponent's side of the field because great field position, as we all
know, is a "situation" that tends to "help (quarterbacks) be
successful." And does that mean that Robles gets all of the other reps
when Utah has the ball on its own 5 yard line? And one more
thing...what's with the horrible retro tie-dye undershirts? Who came up with
that fashion statement? and did they think it would help with more wins?
It appears the the Utes left everything at BYU and Pit. As a Cougar fan, I'm
very sad to see this, falling so fast and so low in a such a short time after
clobbering us in that wicked 54-10 beat down. I surely can't be happy about it
because it's making us look even worse. Let's hope Whit and Chow can put a stop
to this painful downward spiral quickly and turn things around before their
program turns into the joke their fans claim us to be...no real athletes, can't
compete with the big boys, etc, etc. For the sake of the state of
Utah football, I'm rooting for you Utes to win the rest of your conference
schedule. Do that and all will be well, not to mention it will make our
embarrassment at your hands not look too. Go Cougs! Go Utes!
Ooops! I meant to say in that last sentence "not look too bad." Good luck to both the Cougs and the Utes on the rest of their games this
What is the date for the Rose Bowl. I want to make sure I get my tickets.
I don't blame the defense for Utah's woes, It's tough to play defense the whole
game without any offense. Coach Whitt is to blame...going into the Pac 12 with
one QB that was questionable and no real backup is not an oversight it is simply
Where was this type of play on Sept 17th? Oh right, that was U're Superbowl. Of course U're going to get up for that one and take the rest of the
year off.Maybe U thought it was like soccer and the 44 pts would
carry over through the next game(s)?
I can't help but wonder if the expensive tickets to RES were worth it to see the
mighty Utes lose to every PAC 12 opponent that has played there to date. If OSU
beats them on saturday there will be a wide range of seats from which to choose
when (and if) one attends the game with UCLA.
Clearly the Utes have recruiting deficiency issues. They cannot compete with
the Pac 12, even the lower eschelon teams. Quit kidding us in the media about
what is going on you writers and broadcasters. All this rosy talk in the past
about joining the mighty BCS Pac 12 conference. Let's put some bark on your
assessments and tell it like it is for a change. I am weary of all this
bandwagon rhetoric and the constant drumbeat of false optimism just to continue
the friendly access to coaches and administrators of the Utah colleges and
universities for your commentary. This includes the professional sports teams.
Give us some straight talk for a change, before, during and after the seasons.
In the case of Utah football, they in way over their heads in the Pac 12. It
also shows how pathetic the Pittsburg team was the week before, and BYU. Jordan
Wynn's lack of ability to get things done, the failure of the offensive line to
protect him; his lack of mobility skills, and on and on. It's a total team
failure at this point. The Utes are on the verge of total collapse as they
showed us on Saturday.
Where is the offensive line that dominated BYU? Too many sacks allowed. I'd
say Hays needs to get rid of the ball quicker, but I'm not sure he even has 3
isn't this what most realistic people were expecting?
Ok guys this is the reality listen up.The majority of the teams in the pack 12
have superior athletes and more depth at each position than Utah. The Pacific
Athletic Conference is a progressive offensive oriented league, good defense may
keep the score close but will only get you wins against the bottom dwellers. Utah's offense is unimaginative , needs more offensive threats ie.( skill
Players ), better recruiting and a coaching staff that supports the performance
of the players not one that blames them for their own lack of preparation.
Utah lost Wynn...It's plain and simple. Wynn, even with no zip on the ball could
run the offense and make reads and find the hot route on the blitz. Hays still
hasn't been able to do this.Think about it...What if Utah lost A
Smith in 2004? His backup was 17 year old Brian Johnson. Who was backing up
Johnson in 2008? Corbin Louks with a bum shoulder. It's going to take
some time to develop depth at QB.
The first comment asks where the defense that played against BYU and Pitt is...
Well, having been one who watched the Panther gift of a win I can tell you that
it was NOT Utah's defense that helped win that game. I saw the Panthers shoot
themselves time after time with no defenders even within reach... Overthrown
balls, under thrown balls... fumbled balls... I did not see a stellar defense on
the field in Pittsburg.... Just a team that took advantage of a terrible home
team effort. I believe that the same could be said in the 7 turn over game in
provo in september. It isn't Utah's defense at all who has allowed no less than
23 points in all 4 PAC-12 games it has played this season. GO BEAVERS GO! After
this week I won't care two cents less whether Utah wins or loses the rest of the
way. A Beaver smackdown vindicates BYU because you can't beat em at home yet we
could beat em in Corvalis. The results speak for themselves.
A single game does not define the rest of the season... All September 17th was
is a very poor showing by the home team in blue. If the season was to be built
around that one pathetic showing why the heck even show up the rest of the year?
It isn't the opponents of the past that determine the strength of the present.
If anything it was a necessary evil to make certain fans look deplorably
pathetic in their continuing ravings and rantings about that one 4 hour block of
time and helped turn around the season if not the season to come in 2012 as well
with the advent of the Riley Spectacular. It is sad that one of the L's for BYU
this season came from a .500 team at best, but, far from defines the worth of
the 2011 season.
Have they considered pulling Blechen or Christpher back into the QB ranks? It
couldn't be worse, could it?
Be cheerful Ute fans! At least you're not Independent like BYU is because
Independence = Nobody likes you. Many Utes fans have said, "I would rather
lose every game in the PAC12 than be Independent." Being in the PAC12
means you are liked, and that in of itself is so much more important than being
Independent.BYU beat Oregon State so that means the Utes will too.
In fact, since they dominated the Cougars and the Cougars beat OSU my prediction
for the game is:Utah 108OSU 0They will also force
14+ turnovers because they are bigger, faster, and stronger than BYU and since
BYU was bigger, faster, and stonger than OSU then the Utes will be that much
bigger, faster, and stronger than OSU.
The Utes defense was able to shut down Pitt and byu for that matter because they
weren't on the field the whole game. In these loses, the Utes have turned the
ball over right after long drives by the opposition. More than a few times it
has been on the first play of the drive putting our defense right back on the
field. Look at the time of possesion in the Pitt game. The Utes had the ball
almost twice as long as they did. Pitt did over make bad throws to open
receivers part of that was the wind that's why Utah ran the ball so much. This team has a lot to work on. The O-line has been horrible since Hays
stepped in. Maybe Wynn was getting rid of the ball a lot faster but he hadn't
been sacked that many times. I feel bad for Hays because not many players are
helping him out by making blocks and dropping balls but I am also disappointed
in the lack of depth at the position.I also don't think Whit is
trying to blame anyone but him and his staff. Coach Whittingham is a great
...... and the BYU trolls go wild.Love it.
@54-10You're a hypocrite! You're a UTE Troll on BYU articles all the
SamoanYfan the hypocrisy goes both ways. I'm not on Y articles but here you are
on a Ute article. Yes the U offense stinks at moment. No big
surprise there. 99% of it is the loss of Wynn. When Wynn was last in the game
against Washington they were down by 3 at halftime. Since that they have gotten
their rears handed to them by all the PAC 12 teams they have played. Pitt is
from the Big Least so they don't count. Whitingham et. al. messed up big time
on QB recruitment and though Hays has heart he isn't a BCS league QB. Maybe it
is time to move Blechen once again; this tim to QB as he was a pretty good one
in High School.
Rock Of The Marne: I like you're idea of changing QB, but I would rather see
Christopher there - mostly because we need Blechen on defense. Christopher does
no good for us on offense if we are throwing interceptions on every possession,
so we might as well get the ball in his hands right away and see what he can do
with it. However, the biggest problem may be our offensive line.
@Rock Of The MarneThe ONLY reason I'm on Ute articles is because of
screen name 54-10. If he/she never commented on BYU articles then I would never
comment on Ute ones. I only pointed his/her hypocrisy because that person is
commenting on virtually every BYU article, this may be my second Ute article
@Rock - You've been on plenty of BYU articles. The fact that the U has stunk it
up this season has several usual suspects return to familiar confines. Now we
see 54-10, and Naval continually troll, but our friend ChrisB and others seem to
have gone into hiding. When BYU does well, the U fans harp on
scheduling. When U does poorly, it's because the Pac12 is so much more
competetive than the MWC. Sounds a lot like the left-wing political
agenda...always blame something/someone else.

excuses why they will probably not go to a bowl this year, after losing to a WAC
team last year? What a great year to be a Ute!I'm
The thing that worries me now is with this pathtic showing, who's going to come
to Utah to play for the Utes.I said a couple of weeks ago this is all, and i
mean all, on the coaches. You have a starting QB that is always hurt and so u go
get a d=2 qb. What about going out and getting the best JC guy u could find like
last fall not in the summer when all are taken. I don't care what freshman QB u
bring in they won't be ready for pac-12 play their first year.Try something
different Chow how about going back to the spread for this year until u get the
Ute-chute: I'd still rather be a Ute than a cougarette! And we are closer to
smelling roses than you'll ever be.
The Pac 12 invited the wrong team(s) to the conference. Colorado and Utah. You
must be putting me on. They are both losers and doormats. It is obvious that
the entire Utah athletic department must be willing to take the heat on what is
going on. I can't wait until the basketball season starts. It will be more of
the same ineptitude on the court. What an embarassment for all Ute fans.
Utah's defense is second in almost every category in the PAC 12. So all this
talk about how they don't have the athletes to compete in the PAC 12 doesn't
really fly with me. However, the Ute's offense is almost last is every category.
Its not the athletes that are the issue. Its the quarterback and o-line is where
we are lacking. For are the BYU fans giving crap to Utah fans about their
struggles. You are lucky you are playing mostly WAC teams. Because if you were
in the PAC 12 you would be worse off thanUtah. Overall Utah team is more
talented, and obviously better as we learned on the field 54 to 10. If utah was
playing BYU schedule yawn... They would be a top 25 team right now..
I am just so blessed to read about a local team losing not to have to read..
"we just have a failure to execute" ! If any execution would be
held, at least it would be in plain view of the general public.
SamoanYfan,So you are going to stoop to his level? That seems like
a great argument. Anyways, go Utes! Pull it together and let's get back on the
Im a BYU fan. We can argue about who is the little or Big brother but the fact
is we are brothers here in Utah and it is embarrasing to see what is going down
in the PAC 12. Honestly Utes I am cheering for you against Oregon St. Get it
together. The PAC 12 is not that good and you are not that bad."we will never be broken" Kyle Whittingham
