Maybe yards passing for the entire season.
Cougars by 14 in this one. OSU pass defense and pass efficiency is horrid and
BYU will exploit that with the offense. They will still try to get a good
running game going, but look for more passes tomorrow. Go Cougars.
Riley Nelson is a good predictor for getting hurt. Jake Heaps will be the BYU
quarterback by default when Nelson gets clobbered.I wish no ill for
Nelson, but I see other teams teeing off on him to try to put him out of the
game. (BYU did the same against Sam Bradford.)QBs are in a
vulnerable position. It's a tough game. I wish the Cougars luck against Oregon
State. They will be playing with pride after BYU beat them in their last bowl
Does this stat matter? The only one that does is whether the team wins, right?
Talk about an obsession with trivia.
Lou' coug, maybe so, but Riley is a tough kid, and scrambling qb's don't get
nailed as often as a pocket passer when the d has a good strategy for breaking
the pocket down.Still, I re-watched the SDSU game last night, and
that play that decked Nelson? The one where the announcers politely said the
defender punched him in the "abdomen," and it just "knocked the
wind out of him?"Yeah, I wouldn't be standing up straight,
either.Accident or intentional, I do worry about that.

Interesting omission from the article. The talk is about the lack of 300 yard
passing games any longer and no comment from the Cougs Offensive Coordinator?
Doman is the one who was hot and heavy about bringing the offense back to the
"glory years." Uh, haven't seen that yet. But, I'm ok with the lack of
300 yard passing attacks so long as we keep winning. Go, Cougs!
I like how Coach Reynolds tries to spin this, we want to have more balance in
the run vs. pass.Way to fall on your sword coach but let's face it,
the talent at the position (QB) and the offense overall isn't what it used to be
relative to the position. While everyone has fallen in love with Riley Nelson
because of a come from behind win vs. Utah State, quarterbacks like Marc Wilson,
Jim McMahon and Steve Young were getting ready for pro careers. I would put
Nelson in the class of quarterbacks like Bob Jensen, Sean Covey, Steve Lindsley,
QB's that drove BYU fans crazy in the 1980's but put up similar numbers to
Nelson/Heaps.As far as running back and running game. Give me a
break. Does this cast of running backs look anywhere near the talent of say
Jamaal Willis, Lakei Heimuli, Eric Lane, Waymon Hamilton, Robert Parker, or, Vai
Sikahema, players that actually got a shot at the next level. DiLuigi is a poor
man's Kelly Smith.Bottom line, the talent level has dropped off
immensely, that's why I think Coach Mendenhall actually does a good job milking
what talent he has.
Yeah, I miss the big 300 yards passing days. Back when BYU didn't play defense,
but if we had the ball on the last possession, we knew we were going to win. I
loved the entertainment value of watching the quarterbacks of old knifing
through the other team's defense like it was butter. Of course, BYU was ahead of
the game in the 80's, seems like teams have caught up and adapted. Watching
Oregon play these days is pretty revolutionary. Good luck Cougs, I
still pull for you!BTW, I miss the old days of just rooting for your
team without having to weather through a renegade Utah fan jumping in your face
on a blog page.
Great days. Great games. Two words. Doug Scovil. Three words. Young Norm
Chow. Great coaches made great QBs. Perhaps in time Brandon will get there.
He has the mind set an a vision. He just lacks time. Those days
set high standards that are tough to match. Special players Had the
publicity machine Vern better at least two more Heismans would be in Provo.
But rest assured there are great games ahead.
My biggest disappointment about BYU's football program. The offense is now down
right boring. How did BYU go from one of the most prolific offenses in the
nation to this? Pathetic! The entire game is stressful to watch as a fan. No
tradition left. Bronco is all talk and hype but has not produced results
lately. Embarrassing loss to utah. In reality, the rest of this season is
irrelevant. Utah fans are correct when they say their games mean more this
year. Ho hum Armed Forces bowl that we will most likely lose. Hopefully next
year will be better.
I love watching the run game! It is way fun to have a mix. If you think that in
this day and age you can go out and pass that many plays, then you have been
playing too many low level Madden games. The game has changed, and now to win
consistantly you have to have a more balanced offense.
