Great article. Sounds like an impressive young man. Good luck this season to
you Greg, and as ever, GO UTES!!
it's easy to like this kid. and best of all, he doesn't have a sloppy grey shirt
hanging down from underneath his jersey.
We could use a whole team of players with this kid's attitude. Let's hope they're all ready to dig deep on Saturday. Go Utes!!
I'd like to see Greg start playing on defense a little. Rowe takes terrible
angles and McGill doesn't seem to go all out. Quade and Michael play alright,
but I don't think either of them are much better than Greg.
I thinking he'll make a huge fumble causing tackle Saturday and follow that up
with a pancake block during a kick-off...Go Utes!
Whit has sold his soul to the SPEED God's. What he forgot to take into
consideration is if Speed can't tackle and Speed can't remember the reads and
Speed has no experience and Speed only weights around 185 pounds then Speed is
going to get killed when he plays the big boys.Lets see with limited
playing time Bird has accomplished the following.Last YearAir Force 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble inside the 30, fourth down tackle to kill drive, Goal line tackle to save 2 point
conversionSan Diego Game saving punt block at the 3 yard line in
the 4th quarter when Utah was behind to set up game winning
touchdown.BYU Recovered shanked punt in 4th quarter to set
up game winning touchdown. UNLV Key block
to set up Shakey for touchdownYeah.... according to Scalley Bird is
limited physically at safety. He hits to hard, blocks to well, never gives up,
is loyal and never complains. He is everything the other safeties aren't. I'll
take Greg Bird on my team right now and I'll do something Scalley won't....I'd
start him at safety and bench the others until they grow up.
I agree with flintrock, Bird is much more talented and impressive than any of
the safeties playing right now. Speed isn't always the answer, brains count too!
Part of Utah's problem is the inexperience of the safeties and it is obvious
just watching the games. They may be fast but they don't have the brains. The
coaches aren't blind, they are stupid. How are you supposed to be a competitive
team in the PAC 12 if you don't play your best players? If you don't do your job
you should sit the bench, I don't care what position you play.I'm
willing to bet other defensive players on the team wish Bird was on the field
with them, they'd have a better chance to win. Isn't that what it's all about?
Bird is stronger mentally, physically and much more mature...period!
