The article says "Promises mean everything to Hatch and he seems, in an
almost childlike way, bewildered by those who would balk on promises for
short-term political gain." If that's true, why is Hatch pandering to the
Tea Party and far right wingers now. Oh, yeah, I know -- to get elected. What
do promises mean to a politician whe s/he is trying to get elected? NOTHING!
My goodness, where to start with commenting on this article. I find it amazing
that Senator Hatch can take you in so easily Mr. Edwards. Let me
identify one glaring example of reasons Senator Hatch is unworthy of our
continued support. He has pushed a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution
for many years. I believe this would be both exceedingly foolish and futile. But
regardless, Senator Hatch is no model of integrity or keeping promises. Think
back to the George W. Bush administrations when, for most of the time,
Republicans controlled the Senate. Consider how many huge commitments of federal
spending programs and decisions were made: the Medicare prescription drug
benefit program, the Afghanistan war, the Bush tax cuts in 2001, the Iraq war in
2003, and the second round of Bush tax cuts in 2003. Each of these initiatives,
bills and military ventures cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Did Senator
Hatch make any attempt to provide revenues to pay for these things? NO! Our
budget deficits are largely due to his irresponsible actions in the Senate. There are many more examples of Orrin Hatch's infidelity to self
professed ideals. Vote Hatch out in 2012.
We are fortunate to have Senator Hatch in office. He is in a powerful position,
one that most Utahn's probably don't appreciate, not having much connection with
national politics and tending to be less involved in the national scene than
some states. We would be foolish to replace him with someone
inexperienced, for obvious reasons. But it would be tragic to remove him when
he will likely be the most powerful Senator next term. It is unusual for Utah
to have such an influential role; I hope our citizens will take the opportunity
to understand this dynamic and ensure Senator Hatch has the opportunity to serve
for one more term.We have plenty of "new" representation -
and that is a great thing. But experience and position power are things we
cannot afford to give up.
What? No meetings with powerful out of state donors like Freedom Works? For a
candidate who has 97% coming from PAC's outside the state of Utah, we should all
be proud of how Orrin will help repay them for their donations to his campaign
with the POSSIBLE chance at a chairing a powerful committee. And if
Orrin is in a powerful position, for the Senate Finance committee, how is it
going to do anything for Utah if Mike "No Federal Money to Utah"
Lee?I am sorry, this is a marketing piece by his campaign to white
wash the fact that in 30 years, Orrin is now suddenly all tea party for this
re-election? The GOP ignores his Bank Bailout vote, his DREAM act sponsorship?
We need to vote all of these partisan hacks out, and replace them
with people who will work for the real people, not corporations that the Supreme
Court calls "People".
'Deseret News dialogue with Sen. Orrin G. Hatch' - Title *'Sen.
Orrin Hatch utters profanity about President Obama's health care reform' - By
Jamshid Ghazi Askar - DSNews - 03/01/11'...so much so that, during a
recent appearance at Utah State University, Utah's senior senator used profane
language to describe the reform law.'
Gee Pagan, you are offended? Seems a bit odd.Orrin does a good job
for us, it's just you myopic Tea Party folks that don't see that (pun intended).
'Gee Pagan, you are offended? Seems a bit odd.' - Flashback | 12:15 p.m. Oct. 3,
2011 Gee. So, I guess profanity is the new civility?
*'Hatch proposes drug testing for welfare, unemployment
recipients' - KSL News - 06/16/10 "We should not be giving cash
to people who basically are going to go and blow it on drugs and not take care
of their own children." - Sen. Orrin Hatch Because, as we ALL
know, single mothers ONLY use welfare money on drugs. (pun intended)
The archaic stances of Hatch serve no purpose. His first campaign promise on
campaign limits were done....36 years ago. Since then, Hatch's
dialouge has only been self-serving. The dialouge Hatch promotes
would be insulting to those who support him, if levied at themselves.
To image that a brand new Senator for Utah could accomplish much of anything for
Utah in the next 3 or 4 years is to not understand DC.It will be amazing
when the entitlement reforms are written by our team (the conservatives) with
threat of amendments from the liberal spenders rather that the other way around.
This will protect our seniors and give our youngest tax payers choices. It
will be a great day indeed when Sen Hatch takes the Gavel for the Finance
Committee for I hope, several years.Thank you for your hard work and
integrity Senator Hatch!
He is under the tea party influence and therefore irrational. He needs to be
booted like Hank Jr.
No one better than a true Reaganite like Senator Hatch to Chair the Finance
Committee. Whether it's getting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security back on
track or reforming the tax code, the Senator will be in prime position to make
serious headway on those fronts. What does Utah (and the country) gain from not
having Senator Hatch in office?
Utah can gain tea party non-influence and obstructionism by sending another tea
party Lee to D.C.
