Way to go, RSL! If you reckon by points per match rather than by points, then
RSL are in second place in the MLS.Current table (combined east and
west) in terms of points per match:LA Galaxy 2.00Real Salt Lake
1.78Seattle Sounders FC 1.76FC Dallas 1.59Columbus Crew
1.41Philadelphia Union 1.39Sporting Kansas City 1.38Colorado
Beautifully placed ball by Beckerman. Easy finish for Borchers.
Thanks RSL for taking some of the sting out of the BYU debacle.
I watched the highlights on mlsnet.com and replayed the goal a couple of times
and it looked to me like Borchers was slightly offside for his goal.
Slightly offside...who cares. That's like saying BYU was slightly overplayed. A
win is a win and there is no good angle on mlsnet.com that would give you a hint
of being offside
The last angle that is shown on mlsnet.com shows pretty clearly that Borchers
was mostly past the last defender when Beckerman took the free kick. There might
have been a little overlap with some of Borchers' body and the last defender.
The analogy to the BYU-Utah game makes little or no sense. If the ref made the
offside call on the Borchers' play, then RSL probably doesn't win. In the
BYU-Utah game, no single play made the difference in all of the game. A plethora
of plays would have to be changed for the outcome of that game to be different.
In most games there are a few calls that could be or not be offside. Sometimes
it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. If it was offside we will probably
have it made up another time where it goes against us.
