Beg to differ. It was not the Texas backup QB that made the difference. It was
the Texas offensive coordinator Harsin that did. He was given the green light by
the head coach to make adjustments and open the playbook. He turned the table
and put the BYU defense on their heels, made them over think, got them tired and
won the game as a result. On the other side, the opposite occurred.
BYU's head coach allowed his offensive coordinator to get scared, conservative
and ad void of any creativity. The shift in confidence was palpable and we all
knew what was coming. We fans became just as anxious as the players and lost all
confidence in a pending victory. Texas picked up on those vibes and completely
took over the game.
Here's the bottom line:Head coach Mack Brown and former Boise State
offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin- Two thumbs up.Head coach Bronco
Mendenhall and offensive coordinator Brandon Doman- Two thumbs down.BYU was out-coached by two more experienced and more creative coaches. It was
a bummer to watch.
what will it take to teach Doman that running the ball on 3rd and long, in the
4th quarter, when down a point, with a running back that had less than 15 yards
in the first half...doesn't win ball games?I predict that Brandon
has one more game left before he is reduced to Offesinsive couch and Bronco
takes over again.
Doman called a couple bad plays, but Heaps and WR's didnt connect on a few of
those plays, and missed opportunities. Remember in the 1st half, Heaps threw a
deep ball to Jacobson that was just too far for his hands, and if that ball was
on target, it would have been a touchdown and BYU would have been up 17-3 at
halftime, instead of 13-3. Missed opportunities by the offense cost
BYU the game.
Am I the only one that thought Heaps was not looking down field at all during
the 2nd half?
Defense got really tired toward the end of the game. I don't think Texas did
anything different, BYU just got tired. Tired of carrying the offense.Offensive Coordinator was the difference. Doman needs to step up. Why didn't
BYU get Harsin? uuughhhh. Running the ball and third and long? riley Nelson is
in the game, I wonder what play thier gonna run? Uuuugh. I thought the two-QB
approach was a bad idea?
