There are no jobs here because employers have found other places that have
cheaper labor and no restrictions or liabilities. I say let the employers move
to where their companies are. If they live here then tax them to pay for the
safety net that has become necessary here because of the lack of jobs. Love
America or leave it. Loving America means trying to make it a better place for
all of its citizens. Americans, in the past, have sacrificed too much for our
benefit to allow the selfish and greedy to create economic havoc by behaving as
they are. We are not going to be a country like France before their revolution.
What's the big deal?? We all know that these unemployed people are just sitting
home collecting unemployment, watching T.V. and are living high off of our tax
dollars. There are plenty of jobs out there if they would just look har
enough.Heard that garbage for 2 years while I was job hunting. There are no jobs to be had because we have sent them all overseas for
cheap labor and to help out the poorer countries. Working out good isn't it?
Why don't states, counties, and cities track and report their own unemployment
numbers? The federal numbers just don't seem accurate to me. It seems like if
each state or city tracked this number themselves it might help put more
pressure on government at all levels to make sure they are doing all they can to
be more business and job friendly.
with all the outsourcing that the white house has let all these companies do and
alot of employers are now only hiring through temp agencies and its also cheaper
to hire two part time people to do one job than it is to hire one person to do
it full time. 17 more companies have shutdown their U.S operations and have
moved outside the U.S for cheaper wage workers and your goverment has done
NOTHING about it
Re: desert dweller | 4:42 p.m. Sept. 4, 2011 "with all the
outsourcing that the white house has let all these companies do"You mean like the NLRB trying to tell Boeing they couldn't build an aircraft
plant in South Carolina because it is a right to work state? It may be hard to
believe but you can Google my comment to verify it's accuracy.
desert dweller:In 1992, Ross Perot wrote a book titled "United
We Stand". Page 117 and 118 of that book list solutions to the concerns
you itemized. Those pages also list 31 other common sense solutions
to many of the problems we still face today. In 2004, Pat Buchanan
wrote a book titled "Where The Right Went Wrong". Pages 243 to 245
address your concerns specifically. Pages 232 to 254 detail a way out of the
mess we are in.Both of these authors are staunch re-Publicans.The re-Publican Party AND the Democratic Party have taken great pains to
avoid any meaningful steps to address the problems we have faced for the last 30
years and before. The current occupant of the "White House"
is simply a co-conspirator along with all President's and Congress's since 1980
and before.Looking at the current crop of re-Publican Presidential
candidates, it looks like the streak will continue.
Rifleman,That is a good comment showing how labor can overplay its hand.
And competition between states may be a good thing. But if states get into a
bidding war then we need a federal government to draw some lines where needed.
It is sad, but the USA will have to get use to it because it is a trend that
will continue. We are becoming a nation like the third world countries or the
under developed nations of the rich and the poor. The poor always have high
unemployment and there is much poverty in the streets, and the misery of the
poorer of the poor. The prosperous middle class is a thing of the past.
We could again become the richest country on the face of the planet if we would
have the courage to do four things:1. Stop believing the horse manure
notion that the US must be interdependent in a global economy. Say no to the
IMF. South America did it and their economy is now better than ours. (Of course
Hugo Chavez is a Hitler right?)2. Go back to a constitutional monetary
exchange and stop using debt as our system of exchange. Debt is not money. It's
killing us.3. Do no business with any country that allows sweat shop slave
labor and return all foreigners to their homelands until we can make our
citizenry solvent again. We can invite them back with the right paperwork when
we are productive and need the extra help.4. End free trade. Tax imports
(this is part of our constitutional funding of American government)to keep
prices fair globally. Fairness will bring jobs back to America even if it means
that we only sell American products only to Americans. We may appear to be
"isolationists", but who cares? We need to take control of our own
destiny. America MUST BE STRONG!
8-12 million jobs are available now, not including agriculture. Just enforce the
laws, where is our compassion?
SLars.... you are right and wrong at the same time. The hispanics are not
taking the job you would want, and most would want. But the jobs are going to
foreigners though. When I started my career, everyone I worked with was mostly
inside the walls of the building I worked. Flash forward 25 years and now the
vast majority of the people I work with are not only not in my building, they
are not in my city, nor in my state, not even my country. I regularly work with
people from Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, France, Germany, England, India,
Singapore and Australia. We aren't competing with unemployed
Americans, we are competing with very hungry and aggressive foreigners looking
for their piece of the pie. Add to that, if I bring on a person based in
Europe, we have employment contracts and I don't have to worry about the cost of
healthcare in their fully loaded cost. A college educated european cost me less
than their counterpart here in the states. It not about Utah, or the
States... we are competing globally every single day. If you are not, you are
being left behind.
I created my first job 55 years ago and have been doing that ever since. If I
couldn't do what I am doing now I can think of at least a dozen other ways of
making a living and none of them would involve filling out a job application.
If you hire yourself you never have to worry about getting fired no matter how
mad you get at you! Try it and you will never go back to working for someone
