I think this is a great plan. I would like to see him take the show to
Sacramento and to other NBA cities. It will be a good way for fans to get to
see the new guys. Then if the old timers want to join in they can create a new
league. Of course this will make the NBA owners upset, or possibly some of the
other players, but lets play ball.
Fun!Kind of a "for grins" game.I like Fisher
and Rose doing the coaching.
Great idea, good to see Jimmer & others acting and not simply being acted
upon by the NBA strike. Hope they do not play on Sunday.
Sounds like someone's getting deperate for a paycheck!
Yo Johnny... do you think he's more "desperate" for a paycheck (and I
suspect the way you said it you meant to be insulting, but hope you understand
everyone needs income unless they're a Democrat and are living off someone
else)... or is he tired of pick up games, drills and practice and needs some
live competition to keep his skills sharp at a higher level? And,
maybe he's got some impresario blood in him.
@rockon - sure, meant it as slightly derisive toward him. With other
endorsements (can't find the link on DN right now) he should be fine, so why
lessen his brand by putting on some sort of circus show. I'd bet that, even
without an NBA contract yet, he's still doing better than most of us.
I will probably buy tickets but first I need to know what the rosters look like.
I don't really care to see NBA washouts and wannabes. If guys like Brandon
Knight, Kemba Walker, Derrick Williams, and Kyrie Irving are coming, then put me
down for some tickets.
I'm on the side of Johnny Triumph on this one. Jimmer had a basketball clinic
for young kids last month, dubbed it as though he'd be there all week, and
really didn't make many appearances. He had others provide the training and he
put his name on it to attract all those kids and parents who became enamored
with him at BYU last season.Great kid in so many ways, but my son
and I felt a bit of a bait and switch on the "Jimmer" camp.
Johnny Triumph"so why lessen his brand by putting on some sort
of circus show"Sounds like you're just jealous that Jimmer has
the drive and foresight to do something other than sitting around waiting for
the NBA to get it's act together.Good for him.Sports is
first and foremost entertainment.Doesn't the NBA, NFL, and MLB do
the exact same thing with pre-season/exhibition games? Games that are little
more than a way for the leagues to make money letting fans watch live scrimmages
of mostly newcomers and bench players? None of those "games" is
anymore meaningful than what Jimmer is organizing.
It is my understanding that some or all of the proceeds are being donated to a
charity...that is what I heard on the radio today.
6;8: It is very typical for the main name person to utilize others to do most of
the training. My son has attended many camps in the sport he loves and the big
names make appearances, but at the end of the day he was there to become better
at his sport and make some new friends. Hope your son was able to get those
It would be great if they could or would do the same thing in Denver - I live
60+ miles away.I am sure that there would be lots of Colorado,
Wyo,MT, NM, Kansas that would like to see these guys play.
@Riddles - I'm not jealous at all, just disappointed that he's choosing to put
on a circus show like this. It's just a strange way to keep his brand alive,
and he's only doing it here in Utah because that's where his brand is strongest.
Maybe he's doing events in the community in Sacramento, I hope he is since
that's where his focus should be, not here in Utah.Maybe he needs to
go and drop 60 in some LA or Harlem summer league...if he wants to be in the
class of the true NBA superstars then he'd be better off doing it there rather
than in West Valley City, Utah.Drive and foresight are different
than short term entrepreneurship. Drive and foresight imply a longer term
effort to build something. This is nothing more than an attempt to maintain his
BYU following and does nothing to increase his brand awareness to different
audiences. He'll slowly become irrelevant if he's not careful.
Johnny TriumphI love how you are the one who determines what is
drive and foresight and what is not.
