This is a very interesting article that actually has some investigative
journalism. this entire program should be scrapped. It seems an enterprising
guy with a van could transport people from Ely to Las Vegas, or Glendive to
Billings for much less than the cost to the taxpayers to fly them. Senator Reid
and Senator Ensign, how 'bout it?
By what authority? This has to be one of those boondoggles that would be
covered under the "general welfare" clause. However, that clause is
meant to be interpreted to be to the benefit of us all. Living in a rural area
I will now wonder how much taxpayer money is flying over every time I see a
plane and how did I benefit from that?
Moab is one of those rurall places with subsisized flights. Different airlines
bid to supply the subsisized service, they only fly to one or two places,
usually not where you want to go. One certainly has to question weather it is
This program would be "nice to have" if we had unlimited funds to
throw at "nice to have" stuff. However, since we owe $14
trillion already, this is one that should be ended immediately and
completely.Isn't it amazing what people will spend on, as long as it
is other people's money they are spending? For some of the routes listed, it
may be cheaper to send a charter flight any time someone wanted to fly to/from
the location than to keep runing empty planes back and forth.Okay,
so this program needs to be cut immediately, now let's get on to finding
thousands of other unaffordable boondoggles to cut.Note that there
is a van service that hauls people from Cache Valley to the Salt Lake airport,
about 100 miles. Private enterprise will come up with solutions to problems
that make economic sense. Big government programs seldom do.
More government waste. There are programs like this all over the nation. How
many billion could we save every year if they were eliminated?
