I was wondering if this circus could live up to it's potential with sarah still
hovering out in orbit around it but it looks like it has the entertainers it
needs to succeed.
Mitt Romney is a goner.
I was so optimistic about Huntsman. It seemed like we might actually have a
conservative candidate with a bit of common sense. He put that notion to rest
during the debate, in which he tried his hardest to pander to the Tea Party and
convince the world that he is no different than any of the other conservative
candidates. So disappointing.
Huntsman/Paul in 2012.
Let's launch a new party where we drink a lot of tea. Herbal tea.
Considering that turnout was well below that of the 2007 straw poll, I'd say the
main thing the results point out is that no one's particularly enamored of any
of the Republican candidates who participated. The candidate most accurately
declared the winner is NOTA - None Of The Above.
Democrats can only hope the results of this straw poll continue to given
Bachmann so that she gains momentum and eventually causes all the other
candidates to drop out. It's is the best thing that could happen
for the election of the President.
By the srtaw pole it looks like the Republicans have no leaders, just facades
that like the lime light. Because of this lack of leadership this may allow the
voters to re-elect Obama to his office again. This means America's leadership
has fallen to a new low standard. We need and can do better.
Liberal supporting the Bachmans. I really support Marc Bachman. He's sssuper
It is amazing that so much attention is given to a straw poll. It is
non-binding and only extremely active partisans participate in a straw poll. To
base a presidential campaign on something as tenuous as a straw poll is
ridiculous. Iowa has a mere 6 electoral votes (they lost one as of the last
census) which just happens to be the same as Utah (we picked up one as of the
last census). Rick Perry announcing for the election brings with him, providing
he carries his home state, 38 electoral votes. That makes the early primaries
like Iowa and New Hampshire seem less than significant.Way too much
attention, especially from the press, is paid to small states that want to be
first in presidential primaries. Their electoral votes, while important
overall, do not and should not determine a party's presidential candidate. And
those that participated in this straw poll, based on who won first and second,
do not necessarily represent mainstream America.
I love how the leftist media and their followers in our country love to hate
Bachman. She must really be doing the right things to get progressives all up
in arms about her. I hope she wins and I hope she challenges Obama come next
Is there anyone out there that can give an intelligent comment about Rick Perry?
I don't want to learn about him from the AP, or these leftist posters that
can't seem to comment without giving some kind of irrelevent slur. I want to
here from the citizens of Texas and their views about Perry as governor.
Re: Oatmeal - "Mitt Romney is a goner."How little you know
about presidential primaries. The Iowa Straw Poll is an Iowa State Fair
side-show. It costs each voter $30.00 to cast a straw-poll ballot. It is
non-binding, meaning that it delivers nothing for the winner but a headline.
Mitt Romney did not enter the race; his name was not on the ballot. Mitt is not
particularly popular in Iowa which leans toward the Evangelical Christian
position that Mormons are not Christians. Michelle Bachman is an Evangelical
Christian, was born in Iowa, and has lived her adult life in Iowa's neighboring
state. Your obituary of Mitt Romney is premature . . . or is it just wishful
I don't think it's much of a " Jolt ".There is a lot of time left.The
biggest jolt would be if Obama wins in 2012. That would be Disaster.
If you think the market is in bad shape now, wait and see if Obama gets
re-elected. The Market does not like him. I hope it doesn't happen, but if we
are stupid enough to elect him again we deserve him because we, ourselves as a
whole, are stupid.
Michelle Bachman?Really? Thats your best choice? Seriously?
SnowCanyonDad--don't be too hard on yourself re: Obama's first term. People
were fooled by color, a glib tongue, and the media, which have nothing to do
with principle-based leadership. Shame on the media. If Obama gets
re-elected for a second term, shame on us, and we deserve to go down. But, our
creator will never let America fail.America cannot continue on our current
course and remain free. The feds created their problems for decades now. The
feds will never solve these problems. It is time to downsize the feds and
return the powers of decision back to the States and the people.
I love how faux news and their followers in our country love to hate President
Obama. He must really be doing the right things to get CONS all up
in arms about him.In other words...I love how (fill in
the blank) news and their followers in our country love to hate (fill in the
blank).(He/She/They) must really be doing the right things to get
(fill in the blank) all up in arms about Him/Her/Them).Perfect.
Do you really want Perry to be president? If you are conservative these facts
will shock you.#1 Rick Perry is a big government politician. When
Rick Perry became the governor of Texas in 2000, the total spending by the Texas
state government was approximately $49 billion. Ten years later it was
approximately $90 billion. That is not exactly reducing the size of
government.#2 The debt of the state of Texas is out of control.
According to usdebtclock.org, the debt to GDP ratio in Texas is 22.9% and the
debt per citizen is $10,645. In California (a total financial basket case), the
debt to GDP ratio is just 18.7% and the debt per citizen is only $9932. If Rick
Perry runs for president these are numbers he will want to keep well hidden.#3 The total debt of the Texas government has more than doubled since
Rick Perry became governor. So what would the U.S. national debt look like
after four (or eight) years of Rick Perry?
continued.#4 Rick Perry has spearheaded the effort to lease roads in
Texas to foreign companies, to turn roads that are already free to drive on into
toll roads, and to develop the Trans-Texas Corridor which would be part of the
planned NAFTA superhighway system. If you really do deep research on this whole
Trans-Texas Corridor nonsense you will see why no American should ever cast a
single vote for Rick Perry.#5 Rick Perry claims that he has a track
record of not raising taxes. That is a false claim. Rick Perry has repeatedly
raised taxes and fees while he has been governor. Today, Texans are faced with
significantly higher taxes and fees than they were before Rick Perry was
elected.6 Even with the oil boom in Texas, 23 states have a lower
unemployment rate than Texas does.7 Back in 1988, Rick Perry
supported Al Gore for president. In fact, Rick Perry actually served as Al
Gores campaign chairman in the state of Texas that year.
continued#8 Between December 2007 and April 2011, weekly wages in
the U.S. increased by about 5 percent. In the state of Texas they increased by
just 0.6% over that same time period.9 Texas now has one of the
worst education systems in the nation. The following is from an opinion piece
that was actually authored by Barbara Bush earlier this year.
We rank 36th in the nation in high school graduation rates. An
estimated 3.8 million Texans do not have a high school diploma.
We rank 49th in verbal SAT scores, 47th in literacy and 46th in
average math SAT scores. We rank 33rd in the nation on
teacher salaries.#10 Rick Perry attended the Bilderberg Group
meetings in 2007. Associating himself with that organization should be a red
flag for all American voters.#11 Texas has the highest percentage of
workers making minimum wage out of all 50 states.
continued.#12 Rick Perry often gives speeches about illegal
immigration, but when you look at the facts, he has been incredibly soft on the
issue. If Rick Perry does not plan to secure the border, then he should not be
president because illegal immigration is absolutely devastating many areas of
the southwest United States.#13 In 2007, 221,000 residents of Texas
were making minimum wage or less. By 2010, that number had risen to 550,000.#14 Rick Perry actually issued an executive order in 2007 that would
have forced almost every single girl in the state of Texas to receive the
Gardasil vaccine before entering the sixth grade. Perry would have put parents
in a position where they would have had to fill out an application and beg the
government not to inject their child with a highly controversial vaccine. Since
then, very serious safety issues regarding this vaccine have come to light.
Fortunately, lawmakers in Texas blocked what Perry was trying to do. Vote Ron Paul.
You posters up above who claim that conservatives are not enthusiastic about the
Republican presidential candidates for 2012 are drinking gallons of liberal
kool-aid.Are you kidding me??Every single conservative I
talk to (and I talk to a lot!) are absolutely THRILLED with those who are
running because we all know that every single one of them is light years ahead
of the guy in the White House now. But, hey, if ya'll want to keep
trying to spread lies, go right ahead.
Peter, I didn't mean to be hard on myself. I take a line from Men in Black. A
person is smart people are stupid (sic). I believe our creator won't let
America fall, as far as we are living the way our creator would like us to live.
We all have free will and choice, those making selfcentered and selfish
decisions not benefiting the country will bring an end to America as we know.
All the focus on Bachmann, when Ron Paul was a co-winner when you look at how
close he was to her vote count. I guess Ron Paul is already considered a fringe
candidate redux. Now the media is questioning Bachmann's experience,
just a tad more than Obama's their saying.Huckabee won last time, so
this straw poll is some sort of conservative Christian ritual that doesn't mean
much to the real campaign.About all it did was give Pawlenty an
option to retreat before wasting anymore time and money, although he was more
qualified than either Bachmann or Paul.
