Are there any omens that have to do with swallowing a bee?
Wynn throwing 79 passes in his first practice is a good sign, but his receivers
dropping passes isn't. It would be nice to know how catchable those dropped
"Obviously my shoulder felt good."Cautiously optimistic,
but Wynn has potential to be great this year.Go Utes!
chicagoborn"Are there any omens that have to do with swallowing
a bee?"Swallowing a bee on the first day of practice is like
breaking a mirror. It's a sure sign of seven years of bad juju for
Dang! I hate to hear that Dehnam hurt his hamstring. He was one of the two
players arriving this fall that I hoped could make an instant run for the
starting spot. Ther other being McGill. We could use a great big reciever like
Denham in the Pac 12. I hope he is ok.
79 passes? I suppose that is good for coming off an injury. Just seems low when
my son throws 150 to 200 passes every night and he is a junior in HS.And yes he
is throwing with velocity and yes he is throwing to receivers and yes..... he is
the real deal Utah. GO WARRIORS!!
Anyone know why Wynn is wearing a brace on his left knee?JW looks
like he's put on 15-20 lbs (not counting the new hairdo). If he was tough
enough to get a tattoo, he'll be tough enough to not slide short on 3rd and
This is a ute article. Has anyone heard of hedgehog?
I dont understand how any Ute fan can be excited to have Wynn as your starting
QB.Against decent-good competition he was flat out awful last
season. People can say it was because of the offense he was running (Spread),
but I dont remember ever seeing the triple option or QB draws, so it was not a
true spread, more of a shotgun balanced air attack. The spread usually features
a dual threat QB. (See Oregon, Auburn, ect.) And those that argue it was
because of an injury are just making excuses, It was reported that he sustained
the injury agains ISU, but if he had suffered through the injury all season
long, what was the point of him sitting out of the Boise State game and letting
his team get humiliated? Just not adding up. Assuming that Wynn
makes it through the season, I think he will have a tough time consistently
performing well. He will be up against defensive schemes he hasnt seen yet, and
defensive team speed that does not exist in the MWC outside of TCU. Utah will be 8-4 at best next season (lucky to avoid the Ducks&Standford)
A lot of good news. Hope it keeps coming.
"Are there any omens that have to do with swallowing a bee?"Yes, it means that the only thing that stings worse than a Brian Blechen
tackle is a bee sting to the inside of your throat.
Finally, something to actually talk about. Not too excited about the Dehnam
news. Hopefully it's minor and he's full speed by next week.
Black&Blue | 3:58 p.m. Aug. 4, 2011 Hillsboro, Oregon You're in the wrong place to discuss the WAC. This is a PAC 12 article.
Wonder if Blechen's new nickname will be "BUZZ"...Meanwhile, GO UTES! and kick some butt Boo Anderson!!!
"Every year is an adventure..."Let this year be an
adventure that takes us to Pasadena--just 65 miles from where I am...Wow! that

SoCalUtahFan"Let this year be an adventure that takes us to

12th...which is the closest they'll get to playing in the Rose Bowl
with Wynn at QB.
Re: SwoopI'm amazed that you even know the Utes schedule that well.
I didn't even know when we played there. Sounds like you are a little Ute
obsessed there little bro!!
Exciting days for the Runnin' Utes! We made it to the big show! GOOOOO Utes!
Dave SYou should check the location of the UCLA game on November
Coaches Poll was released today. I hope I never have to hear another Ute chide
about BYU's schedule. U aren't scheduled to play a single ranked team, not one.
Is this the easiest schedule ever? In the MWC, you always played a couple of
ranked teams. If your team is half as good as you say it is, you should breeze
to an easy 12 - 0 regular season record. This schedule brings a whole new
meaning to the Eagles song, Take It Easy.
It's good to have some news out of camp. Brian Blechen will have plenty of
stings for the offenses he's going to pound this year. I like
"Buzz"...In an unrelated comment to this article:CougFaninTX | 9:13 p.m. Aug. 4, 2011 Frisco, TX "Coaches Poll

That's new...Not that 1984's Pitt (3-7-1) and 2009's #6 Oklahoma
(8-5) haven't taught us all a lesson (though Coug fans are quick to remind us
that 2008's Michigan should have never been ranked...). The first REAL poll
shouldn't come out until the first week in October. Then we'll see how BYU
schedule and Utah's schedule will really pan out. We'll also get a better idea
of the combined W-L's of San Jose, Utah St. Idaho, and Idaho St. and can better
project how Ole Miss and Texas will really place in their respective conference.
ChcagobornRe: "Are there any omens that have to do with swallowing a

if a bee lands on a person's head they will rise to greatness, heres hoping.
Although he did dive to greatness already last year!Go Utes!!!
OH MAN c'mon guys, this article almost made it to 20 comments before it starts
to devolve into "BYU vs Utah" banter...I can't, and I never will,
claim to be a Utah fan, but I did read the article so (get this) I could learn
more about how Utah's first day of practice went. I did NOT read it and skip
ahead to the comment board asap just to throw out a bunch of insults. I wish
that fans from BOTH fanbases would do the same more often. Before
anyone tries to argue about which schedule is "better," keep this in
mind: Utah plays, if I recall correctly, 5 teams that at least received votes
(if you add USC, who would've been ranked had coaches been allowed to vote for
them, that's 6). BYU also plays 6 teams that received votes. It seems that, on
the whole, BYU plays a couple more top-end teams, but also plays more
cupcakes. As a BYU fan, I'm interested to see how Utah does this
year. As a former ally in the AQ-vs-nonAQ debate, a Utah that succeeds is good
for all non-AQs...except on Sept. 17th. GO COUGARS!
Brian's injury has got to be one of the most unique injuries to start off the
season. WOW! I'm sure his teammates will give him plenty of razz about it.I hope the Utes perform very well this year and show the PAC 12 that
they belong. It would be awesome if the Utes won the conference in their first
year.GO Utes, Go Cougs
@CougFaninTX"U aren't scheduled to play a single ranked team.
This schedule brings a whole new meaning to the Eagles song, Take It
Easy"Didn't the Eagles also sing: Get over it?Maybe
you can share some pearls of wisdom on a byu article?...Perhaps what you think
about half of the cougs home games being against teams outside the top 100?
Apparently you can't hear the laughing down in Texas?
CougFaninTX- Are you for real?! Have you looked at the cougar home schedule?!
The collective snoring coming from LES stadium before half time of every game
will be off the Richter scale! (Except for that game on sept 17th.)
Practice sounds like it went well overall. I am pumped for football. I need
Wynn to show some killer instinct this year.Regarding the Coaches'
poll, it's a completely worthless dog and pony show at this point. Nobody knows
until at least 4-5 weeks into the season how teams really stack up against each
other. Unfortunately, it does play into BCS rankings down the road.ASU and USC both look to be pretty decent teams. USC can't be ranked due to
sanctions, but they have some great athletes again that would probably land them
in the top 25 at some point this year. Regardless of current rankings, playing
Pac-12 competition every week is definitely a step up from the MWC overall.
Smack talk on who has the toughest schedule is ridiculous. Children,
Dropped passes plagued BYU's offense the first half of the season last year. I
don't know why receivers do that. Is there really that big of a difference in
catching passes from a different quarterback? Couldn't the adjustment be made
after a catch or two? That being said, in order to have a good season
Utah's offense can't afford to have anything like that happen. Dropped passes,
injuries in the OL or QB position, and poor timing can ruin Utah's season so
fast. Hopefully Utah goes 11-1 with their single loss coming on the 17th of
September. Nobody will blame you for losing to such a good team ;)
CougFaninTX -"U aren't scheduled to play a single ranked team,
not one. Is this the easiest schedule ever?"First of all let me
answer the question...no, the easiest schedule ever was BYU's 1984 schedule.Secondly, are you trying to infer that BYU's schedule is tougher than
Utah's this year? If not then disregard the rest of this comment, but if so:BYU = 6 opponents in the top 48 (includes others receiving votes)Utah = 7 opponents in the top 48 *I'm including USC who would
probably be top 15BYU's other 6: Ole Miss Utah
State San Jose State Idaho State Idaho
New Mexico StateUtah's other 5: Montana State
UCLA Washington State Cal ColoradoEven
with an argument of Utah's bottom five being in down years (which may or may not
be true) I'd challenge you to find one non-BYU football fan in the country who
would tell you the Cougs have a tougher schedule.Too easy.
I'm a BYU fan and I say Utah's schedule is full of prestigious names that aren't
very good at football. Are you truly going to pretend that UCLA, Washington
St., Cal, Colorado, and Montana St. are hard games to win? Utah could win those
games with Robles at QB ha ha. Honestly a cup cake is a cup cake whether they
are a BCS team or not. That's what's so messed up with college football. A guy
on ESPN radio summed it up perfectly when he said that Washington St. will make
way more tv money than Florida, Alabama, LSU, etc. Utah will win
there winnable games just like byu will win all of there's. With all this being
said I think that BYU and Utah's schedules are very comparable. Both sides have
arguments that would make it seem they have it harder. When it's up for debate
it probably means that it's pretty close.
Are you truly going to pretend that Idaho, Idaho State, San Jose State, New
Mexico State, are comparable to UCLA, Washington St., Cal, and Colorado?!That's hilarious.
showmeyatd's et al. no question Utah's bottom six opponents are better than the
Ys. Even though teams like Wash. State aren't very good in terms of win loss
records (partly a reflection of the league talent they are playing against as
the PAC 12 isn't the WAC) the talent level of the players and team speed are
still head and shoulders above teams like New Mexico State and Idaho State.
Like it or not, even if the Y does well in the first half of the season their
rankings will drop when WAC light play commences. Lets face it, teams like New
Mexico State and some of the other WAC cellar dwellers shouldnt even be
considered to be Div 1 teams.
showmeyatd's -"I think that BYU and Utah's schedules are very
comparable."I'll give you BYU's top 6 games and Utah's top 7 as
being "comparable" but saying the rest of their schedules are
comparable is fairly laughable.I'll even give you the "Utah's
schedule is full of prestigious names that aren't very good at football"
comment. You're right, they really aren't that great at football right now. But believing those Pac12 teams are in the same realm as smaller conference
bottom dwellers is ridiculous. There's a reason people across the country
wonder how Utah will do with the rigors of playing against bigger, faster,
stronger athletes week in and week out - and I'm talking as much about the 2nd
and 3rd string as I am the starters. Those teams each have a thousand
times better chance of rising up and knocking a team off when compared to the
bottom six on BYU's schedule outside of maybe Mississippi.
Oh how you Ute fans are so forgetful, just last season you were all saying that
the top of the pac was comparable to the middle of the pac in the MWC, oh how
short term memory is great.
@LowCalUtefan"Let this year be an adventure that takes us to
Pasadena--just 65 miles from where I am...Wow! that would be dream comes
true."You'll have to wait until next year for the Utes to go to
Pasadena. They don't play UCLA on the road until 2012.Good news is
every other year or so you can brag that the Utes have played in the Rose Bowl
(unless there's a year where you're not scheduled to play UCLA).
@CougFaninTex"U aren't scheduled to play a single ranked team, not
one. Is this the easiest schedule ever?"No, I think their 2004
schedule was far and away easier.
@meagerIQ63"Exciting days for the Runnin' Utes! We made it to the big
show!"Runnin' Utes is the nickname for the basketball team, not
the football team.
@hedge"Runnin' Utes" to the PAC-12, .......not the lougs
back to the WAC.
Hegdehog/BigCougarWhy don't you just stick to one screen name, we
know you're the same person. I'd also venture a guess that the one
recommendations on each is your own vote.Wynn (from the pictures)
actually looks like a college football QB now and not a little kid anymore. I
have high hopes for him. He has great potential (ie Iowa State, Poinsettia
UtahUte16I wouldn't put to much stock in that Iowa State game. Just
be glad Wynn won't have to play any teams like TCU or Texas this year... except
@PAC manLOL thanks for the laugh! We get two mid-majors this
season, Montana State and byu. Comparing your team to a down Texas team or to
TCU is ridiculous.Enjoy your monster season against the likes of
Idaho State, Idaho, New Mexico State and San Jose State! Your schedule is loaded
with eight games against mid-majors.Go Utes!
Go Utes!! The big time is starting!
