I'm not sure what game you were watching! I would love to have you as a
University professor...handing out A's and B's like candy to undeserving
students. RSL's effort and level of play were pathetic last night. The only one
who played well was Beckerman. Russell, but for one decent cross, was awful. He
was beaten like a drum by a couple of Crew forwards and was 90% responsible for
both goals. He fell for a mediocre move/juke both times and was two steps behind
his man watching the ball go into the net. Nic (he was much better than your
report...goals were not his fault) was demostrably and justifiably angry with
his defenders...including Russell. The Crew was not that good, RSL
was that bad.
A bit too light on Russell and too rough on Jean. Russell was getting beat all
night and both goals were attacking his side. The Crew gameplan was to attack
him all night. While Jean didn't have the touch tonight he has in
other matches, the cross from Espindola was difficult.
I saw the highlights on MLSnet.com but not the whole game. Neither of the Crew's
goals were "gaffes" by Rimando. The first goal he had close to zero
chance on. The Crew scorer was completely unmarked only 3 or 4 yards from goal
and recieved the ball right as his feet and Rimando wasn't close by him meaning
Rimando had about zero chance to block it unless the guy kicked it right at him
which he didn't. If he had saved the header of the second Crew goal
it would have been an awesome save. He almost did and got a hand on it but it
wasn't quite enough. But there's a big difference between not achieving the
amazing and a "gaffe".
I watched the replay and Jean should've done better. From my angle in the game
it looked like a more difficult ball.
