This morning I noted that RSL really weren't as far behind in the table as it
might appear. And now here is the updated table (top five, east and west
combined) in terms of points per match:Los Angeles Galaxy 1.91Real Salt Lake 1.83FC Dallas 1.77Seattle Sounders FC 1.73Philadelphia Union 1.63
And LA will have 6 games added to their schedule this year, and if Dallas and
Seattle make it to the group stage, they will have 6 extra games this well.
The flop was unfortunate. I don't like seeing it, especially from one of our
players. Soccer takes a huge beating for this stuff but I'd like to point out
that you probably see as much or more whining and flopping in professional
basketball. And almost as much in professional football(American). By the look
of the way the game was played, San Jose's keeper was fantastic but it is so
hard to keep a clean sheet when the rest of the team allows the other to have
that many shots on frame. Law of averages would have caught up sooner or later.
I think the game would have finished 1-0 if not for the red card and PK.
RSL needed all 3 points. The controversial PK tarnishes it a bit, but RSL was in
control and could've won without it.
The diving and theatrics in the modern game HAS to be stopped. We have it here
in our EPL, and it is awful to watch. Real Salt Lake gained an immediate
advantage,by not only receiving a game-breaking penalty, but also by playing the
rest of the game against 10 men. This should therefore now be punished
retrospectively with the guilty player receiving a three game suspension. This
same punishment should immediately be meted out to any player in any league
found guilty of diving. TeamFugu refers to the dive as
"unfortunate." Why not call it what it really is.
"Cheating." The coach should man-up, and fine the player up to two
weeks wages, which is the FIFA allowance for bringing his team into
disrepute. The referee and his linesmen should have been able to spot
this infringement. If that is the standard in the MLS, the referees need better
coaching. (I saw three LA Galaxy games when visiting my daughter in San Diego
recently, and the refereeing there was poor also.)
