As one whose wife is currently undergoing her second bout with cancer, I am most
grateful for all the research done by thousands over the last 40 years.
...but sarah said "projects that have little or nothing to do with
the public good. Things like fruit fly research in Paris, France. I kid
you not."...must be more propaganda from the science industry?

Yes, and Bill Clinton in a state of the union address once disparaged research
on "plant stress" not realizing that stresses such as salinity,
drought, disease, freezing, etc. dramatically affect crop yields and food
production. Politicians looking to illicit a response with a line often end up
stepping in it because they don't know any better. Bill Clinton was asking for
line-item veto power, Sarah Palin was speaking out against earmarks. I don't
think either are against science research but each wanted to make a statement
about how science is funded in this country.
