Come on James!!!! Did you watch the game? Davies wasn't tripped, he flopped and
bad. That was one of the most blatant flops I have ever seen. Let's get some
quotes from Kreis talking about what a bad call it was. I am furious and I
imagine the RSL locker room is too, so do some reporting and tell it how it
actually is, not how MLS wants it to be told.
As I watched the replay a couple times, I wasn't even looking for the
"trip" vs "flop." The RSL player clearly contacted the
ball, albeit slightly, making it a legal tackle regardless. Granted, it's clear
only in slow-motion, but it's the kind of thing a referee has to get right, if a
game gets decided over it.
I believe the point James was trying to make is that RSL shouldn't have put
themselves in that position to begin with. How does San Jose put up 4 goals on
the road against these guys and we can only get one at home and on a soft PK at
that?(yes it was a handball and yes it was the right call, but still soft.) I
don't blame the ref for the buying CD9's dive, but this is by my count at least
the second time he's taken a dive late in a game to earn a result, the previous
one being against Seattle. Did anyone watch the Honduras - Costa
Rica game yesterday? Alvaro Saborio had a nightmare of a game missing 2 penalty
kicks (first was saved, second hit the crossbar). Hopefully he can put the Gold
Cup behind him and find his 2010 form soon. I doubt he'll be ready to go against
Chicago, but should be ready for Toronto next Saturday. We'll find out later
today if Alvarez will be coming back sooner rather than later and then by the
end of the month we should have Paulo Jr back and the goals will come!
Wow. RSL has really gone into the tank since Javier went down. I thought the
team was the star. It is looking more and more like Javier was the star and we
are really struggling without him.
While it's true RSL should not have been in that position, the dive is awful and
a fine and/or suspension should be given for such simulation. Davies began his
fall before Wingert was even in position. The dive was so awful there was no
"Replays showed no contact on the US national teamer" That is what
the MLS web site said about the Divies flop that "earned" him his 6th
pk of the year. I would imagine that MLS officiating will offer no explanations
and do nothing but at least we all know what kind of team DC is and what kind of
player CD9 is.
The league needs to stop rewarding teams for cheating. Davies and DCU were
ultimately rewarded with a road point because Davies took a flop in the box. If
the MLS and soccer in general want to get rid of flopping there has to be some
repricussions for plays like that. The league should make some kind of rule
that if you flop and it effects the outcome of the game you get a one game
suspension. That way the cheating team wouldn't be rewarded for cheating.
Worse flop ever, even DC fans say it was, and other mls fans say it was a flop,
althought Jermaine Jone's flop wasn't much better during the USA game.
All pk calls should be reviewed by instant replay. In Charlie Davies case the
call would have been reversed and he would have been given a yellow. To not
review is just stupid. If the referee is going to decide the outcome of a game
he should at least do it with a legitimate call. I hate games decided by pk's
that weren't really pk's. All too common in soccer and the solution is so
