Wow true national TV (meaning ESPN or ESPN2) for our FIRST FIVE GAMES
already--this really bodes well for when we stop having to play a bunch of WAC
teams! Its a great time to be a BYU fan!
Son of a Gun! ESPN has hoisted BYU up on it's shoulders...So long MWC, versus
and the mountain network...Hello National Market! Go Cougars!
Great for the first part of the season; but when do we get BYUtv HD on Directtv;
Dish; etc.We could be back like the beginning of the MWC. No HD
football for all Conf. games until just this last year.I sure hope
we not back looking at BYUtv in SD; that would be a total disaster; but I sure
see it coming.
@lordandrew1First 5 games plus one more. 3 on Saturday afternoon or
evening, prime time, and 3 on Friday night prime time. 3 on the road and 3 at
home. Pretty sweet deal.
As exited as I am for all this, it's going to be "ardouse" to listen
to the trolls try and explain it away.
re:rjtolmanAt first I thought you were a petty BYU fan, then I realized
you're a u fan trying to rain on our parade. Well, we brought umbrella's and big
smiles!! The sky is always Cougar blue!
Since when is suffering through an SD signal a disaster?! I would definitely
prefer to watch in HD, but I've learned to be grateful to even have the games
broadcast where I can see them!
@rjtolmanIt's ok, we brought the U to the national stage for their
only nationally televised game this year. Your Welcome!
@rjtolmanI'd rather watch BYU on SD BYUtv than listen to them on a
radio station like the Utes will have to do with many games. But even if
DirecTV doesn't pick up the HD signal for BYUtv, I'll just connect my computer
to the big screen and watch in in HD.Great time to be a Coug!
I actually called DirecTV and they said it takes a little while but never very
long to start showing a channel in HD after the channel makes it available. He
said as soon as BYUtv wants them to, it will be in HD.
The BYU administration and ESPM have provided the first six games to a national
audience. That is great. The coaches and the Cougs need to step up and
perform. All the games are important, but it is absolutely critical
that the Cougs go to SEC country and beat Ole Miss right out of the gate. Ole
Miss will be no push over. Texas is loaded; forget about last year.
USF is a great team and could very well be in the hunt for the
conference championship of the Big East this year. Utah is a
question mark right now and we'll have to see how Wynn and company perform. Utah State will be a revenge match. And of course, even though TCU lost
a bunch of players, their defense will be extremely tough; especially playing in
Arlington. For all intents and purposes the TCU game is an away game.
@MacNastyWe are playing UCF not USF... different conference
@TMung99,You're right....friday afternoon is my only excuse. UCF is
in the C-USA and won their conference. They also beat Georgia in the Liberty
bowl. They are projected to win C-USA again this year. Tough team. Once
again, my apologies.
for ji bae;I have called Directtv several times since BYUtv went HD
in February. I have been told every single time that is is not even
on their list of upcoming additions for HD. I will be happy to
do anything I can to get this done. I wil call them again today and
see what they say. I will also, check their website forHD additions; they
post there often before Customer Service has any idea.
So right now half of our games are on an ESPN channel and I think the Hawaii
game is supposed to be on ESPN and maybe Oregon State, with the rest on BYUtv.
That also means all of them will be available online, wow that is way better
than the mountain.
"ESPN and the Big 12 Conference announced Friday that the BYU vs. Texas
game in Austin on Sept. 10 will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 at 5 p.m.
MT."Wait what? BYU is only playing @ 5? Everyone knows the
prime time is 6 p.m. You can go ahead and thank Texas University
for the nationally televised ESPN2 game. Your home schedule will be on byutv at
@onelove16That didn't even make any sense. Try again so we know what
you're talking about.
The plate is set - 7 of 12 games on ESPN or ESPN2. The competition is set. The
exposure is set. Now Jake and company just have to perform. This
could be a defining season for BYU football. Can't wait for
tmung99"your" welcome?Once again, TV smack.
Gotta love it. PAC 12, 2 out of 3, Blocked! and Scoreboard.
September 10th, 2011 could be the most momentus regular season day in Utah
college football history.BYU's game at Texas will kick off at 5:00
p.m. MT on ESPN2.Utah's Pac-12 opener at USC will kick off at 5:30
p.m. MT on Versus.Good luck Cougs and Utes!
This just means you will have more people watch you get steamrolled by
Texas,TCU,Ole Miss and cruise by Wac teams. How is that good for BYU. YOu have
to win the big games and you just don't have the athletes. It's the same old
story it started with John Beck and all those years then Max Hall still no BCS
bowl and now with Heaps.
I am so looking forward to the BYU v Ole Miss game! Rebels here feel it will be
a run-away win for them... please prove them wrong Cougars!!! That noise you'll
here from MS will be me, yelling as loud as I can!
Just so you know, BYUtv is on demand on the web and it is in HD.Spend $79
bucks on a RoKu and you can connect wirelessly to your router and watch it on
your TV.Who needs a dish and all these games are rebroadcast after
the game.It looks like September is going to be great! (Assuming
that the Cougs do as well as expected.)
Independence Sept. 3 at Ole Miss (ESPN) 2:45 p.m. MT Sept 10 at
Texas (ESPN2) 5 p.m. MT Sept. 17 vs. Utah (ESPN2) 7:15 p.m. MT
Sept. 23 vs. UCF (ESPN) 6 p.m. MT Sept. 30 vs. Utah State (ESPN) 6 p.m.
MT Oct. 28 vs. TCU (ESPN) 6 p.m. MT Dec. 3 at Hawaii (ESPN/ESPN2)
TBD-------------vs--------------PAC 12 Sept. 10
game at USC (VERSUS) 5:30 p.m. MT Sept. 17 at BYU (ESPN2) 7:15 p.m. MT Nov. 25 game vs. Colorado (FSN) 1:30 p.m. MT
This new TV is looking better and better with each passing day. Six ESPN games
already with more to come and BYUTV to broadcast the others. Thank goodness the
days of watching the MTN and Versus are long gone!
"Wait what? BYU is only playing @ 5? Everyone knows the prime time is 6
p.m."The reason for the time is that games played in the South
(such as Texas) as early as September are usually later in the evening to avoid
the extreme heat and humidity. Unfortunately for BYU, the Ole Miss game will be
in that heat (3:30 game Mississippi time).
Riverton Cougar Actually, the Mississippi game is at 4:45 ET
(Mississippi time); still hot, but BYU has played in the heat before. Last
year's game at Florida State started at 3:30 ET. The Cougars will just have to
take lots of pickle juice with them.
"Exposure" was the main goal of the BYU Cougars in opting to go
independent, and it sure looks like they've got it. Now it's only a matter of
going out there on the field to perform and win, win, win. Short of that, the
exposure will be a very painful experience. Let's hope Heap and company can
step up big time and prove we made the right choice in going independent. Go
@onelove16Uh 5pm Mountain time is 6pm Central time. That is the time
in Texas where the game is actually being played. You see there are these things
called 'time zones' and depending on which 'zone' of the country you are in the
time is different than the other ones. This is something the rest of us learned
in elementary school. Perhaps the university of utah has a remedial class that
teaches these things?
Not complaining, but isn't one game each year meant to be on ABC? The only game
I see left on the schedule that would be worthy of that is Oregon State.Good job Cougars. This independent thing is way better than the MWC.
@onelove. Really. You do know that 5 p.m. Mountain time is 7 p.m. Eastern where
the majority of people live. I would call that prime time, and even if it was 5
Eastern games last about three hours, which rolls into prime time. Nice try. GO
@utahcountyute Blocked, yes after 3 BYU fourth quarter turnovers, and a BYU that
struggled all year moved down the field on your supposedly great defense like
they were standing still and by the way 3 out of 5 scoreboard.Go COUGARS!
Oh yeah onelove and the other four home games might be on BYUtv, but unlike you
ute fans, we actually attend the home games in person not watching them on tv.
Also BYUtv is better than no tv, or KJZZ.
@OneLove16 | 4:14 p.m."Wait what? BYU is only playing
@ 5? Everyone knows the prime time is 6 p.m. You can go ahead and
thank Texas University for the nationally televised ESPN2 game. Your home
schedule will be on byutv at least."1) Time zones One love.
Kickoff is at 6 pm central time. 7 pm eastern. That is prime time!2)
3 out of 7 home games have already been announced will be on ESPN or ESPN2.
Also, Tom Holmoe has already said all but 1 home football game will be on ESPN
family of networks. My guess is Idaho State will be on BYUTV, all the others
will be on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU. Nice try though! How many home
football games does Utah have on ESPN? Go Cougars!
@crown town"YOu have to win the big games and you just don't
have the athletes."2009 Oklahoma. And I'm pretty
sure since Bronco and Kyle have taken over as head coaches in this state, the 6
holy war games are split 3-3. You're right though, Utah just isn't a big game
for BYU. We have bigger and better things to focus on (see 1984).Go
According to Phil Steele,BYU is 7th in % of yards returning this
season (almost 95%) for a very young offense that improved throughout the
season, but especially during the last 6 games.Five of BYU's
opponents lost over 50% of last season's offense and are ranked 90th or lower

As a die-hard BYU fan, I do agree that we'll never have the type of athletes
necessary to fill out a competitive national championship roster. That said,
that's what makes BYU such an amazing place. Just look at what happens at
schools that do have those type of rosters, places like Ohio State and USC. I'd much rather support a roster full of LDS (or non-LDS high-moral)
players who play above their potential, winning most of the games they should
and a few of the games they shouldn't. But thanks to Utah, that
roster is going to get much stronger in the next few years. For Utah to compete
in the PAC-12, they are going to have to recruit away from Utah and into
California, Oregon and Washington. That leaves all of the LDS good-but-not-great
players available to BYU. And really, as Utah becomes a more secular school,
will those LDS players really want to play for them anyway? Just
look at the Ute's current basketball roster: not one Utah kid.All of
this will make the rivalry even better, the Mormons vs. the world.
I'm surprised. I thought the Texas game would be on ABC or ESPN. Wonder why
Wow one reference? You barely beat OU with their backup. How did you finish the
year by the way?I don't remember you guys in a BCS game.I think your problem is
your pounding your chest about a single achievement and that's your problem.
I love how BYU fans thyrow comments about "Winning is not that important to
them" or "Winnng is secondary". If that's true then why allo the
hype every June about the team? Why do "LDS athletes"forgo their
missions to play football? Why do they break waqy from thre Mtn. to go Indy get
a TV deal and make more revenue? This and much more just proves your in denial.
This tv thing has gotten out of hand. You Y fans have your priorities all mixed
crowntown1"I love how BYU fans thyrow comments about
"Winning is not that important to them"No true. What Bronco and BYU fans have said is winning isn't their #1 priority.Missions, like everything else in life, is a personal decision. Does it bother you when an LDS athlete from Notre Dame, USC, Arizona
State, or Utah doesn't go on a mission, or does it only bother you when it's an
LDS athlete from BYU? If it's only BYU athletes, then you're a
I love how Utah fans were beating their chests about Utah's "superior"
television access in the PAC 12, but then go stone cold silent when the
schedules for BYU and Utah are announced.Even under the old
contract, Utah fans claimed that Utah would have much better television coverage
even with BYU's contract with ESPN.
For all the "support" from ESPN, the kickoff times couldn't be much
worse for heat and humidity in the south.
Man I love Ute logic! For months we've heard them jealously say, "Yeah,
well who cares that you're on ESPN ... they'll all just be mid-week games that
nobody will watch!"Now that the schedule is released and it is
awesome, they reply (Jealously -- they are on Versus afterall) with, "That
means more people to watch you lose" and"This tv thing has
gotten out of hand. You Y fans have your priorities all mixed up boy." It's like an Aesop Fable reading their silly posts!
Tomahawk Red | 3:06 p.m. June 4, 2011 North Salt Lake, UT "I'm
surprised. I thought the Texas game would be on ABC or ESPN. Wonder why
ESPN2?"===Maybe you would choose Versus?
@ crown town"Wow one reference? You barely beat OU with their
backup. How did you finish the year by the way?I"1) OU was
coming off a trip to the BCS National Championshio game. They were ranked #3 in
the country at the time of the game, which happened to be on ESPN at prime time.
2) OU started the game with Sam Bradford at QB, but our man Colby clawson
knocked him out. 3) We finished that year ranked #12 and on a 5 game
winning streak, including a win over Utah and a win over Oregon State in the
Vegas Bowl. How did Utah finish last year in the Vegas Bowl?Go Cougars!
wer"For all the "support" from ESPN, the kickoff
times couldn't be much worse for heat and humidity in the south."How would U know? When was the last time Utah had the guts to venture into the
south for a regular season football game?
YOur bragging about scheduling teams in the south that are going to beat you.
Good for you!
crowntown1Win or lose, it's better than living with the
embarrassment of having both a national championship and a Heisman Trophy
stripped from your program for cheating.
I don't feel bad for Reggie, just the present day team. It's not the program
either that is cheating. How do you control the actions of 80 college athletes
when they have free time? You can't!
@clowntownWhat you do is recruit players with more character. Of
course you look down on that approach. But then the team you choose to be a fan
of, congratulations on that by the way, just got stripped of a heisman and a
national championship so it is obvious they are doing things the right way. Keep
on recruiting those high character guys.
Losers hate Winners!
The first 6 games all on ESPN or ESPN2 now that is very cool.
All I can say is: "That is SWEET".
crowntown1 | 11:43 p.m. June 6, 2011 Losers hate Winners!-------And cheaters can't win without cheating. Sports are played
within a set of rules, both on and off the field. "Winning" while
cheating is like having a running back run off the sidelines, thread through his
teamates, and then back into the endzone to yell "Touchdown!"By the way, just about the only time I think about USC is when you come onto
these comment boards to insult my team. Even though I grew up on the west
coast, USC is an afterthought to me unless you run up screaming in my face. So,
as you say, "losers hate winners" so who is the winner here and who is
the loser?Winners > Losers > CheatersAnd yes, I
would rather have BYU lose with honor then win the way the only professional
football team in California wins.
