Mr. Sikahema that was an interesting and touching story. You made my day, thank
you.All the best to you and yours!
Wow! Can't wait until next week.
I was a student at BYU from 1977-1982 and then worked at the English Language
Center from 1982-1986. I remember well watching Vai play. I had forgotten
about those fumbles against Ohio State. Thanks for the reminder......Anyhow, this was a very, very interesting article. I can hardly wait for the
next installment. Thanks for the inside scoop on the whole draft
process and entry into the NFL.
Another great article Vai.Thank you
Vai, thanks for the insights into the draft and your family. I love how you
described the genuine suprise you all felt that day.
good guy. thanks
Wow, what a great article. I can't wait to hear more next week.
Vai (of is it Val!!), aside from your multi-part mission recap (my absolute
favorites), this is my favorite piece you've written. Very insightful, as all
your updates are. Thanks so much for sharing so many personal observations and
insights. I look foward to reading about your initial NFL experience!
Anxious to hear perspective from insiders. There is definitely a lot of glamour
with this, however, I keep hearing comments the NFL stands for "No Fun
League" or "Not For Long".
Best line: "I had never seen a check with a comma..."
This just goes to show that the Lord works in mysterious ways, his wonders to
perform. Vai, you were supposed to have this happen and we are so happy you
chose to share it so we could remember to have faith and stand back and watch
what the Lord can do. You were one of our sons' favorite BYU players. Thanks
for the great article!
If So'oto and Rich do not get drafted they should take a look at the Texan's as
FAs. So'oto is very similar in size and speed to Brooks Reed who the Texan's
drafted second as a pass rushing line backer. Reed is weak against the run.
So'oto can rush but he is good against the run. Rich may not be a
burner but he is smart (game speed is what really counts). Glover Quinn (UNM)
will the the starting safety unless they buy a better one. Rich could back up
Quinn. Wade Phillips is looking for hitters with an attitude. The nature of the
Texan D is changing rapidly. They have switched to the 3-4 and looking for
players who fit.
My "brother" Vai is not only a great writer, but very humble. In the
NFL's modern era (1970-present),Vai is one of only 11 players drafted in the
10th round to ever be selected to Pro Bowl during their careers. He is among
only 32 players drafted in the the 10th round or later to ever be named All-Pro
and only one of two running backs drafted in the 10th round or later ever to
become a Pro Bowler (the other being Earnest Byner, drafted in 10th round in
1984). He also holds the unique distinction as being the only 10th or later
round pick to be selected to the Pro Bowl and named All-Pro as a rookie. From 1970-76 the NFL Draft had 17 rounds and from 1977-92 it had 12
rounds. In 1993 there were 8 rounds in the draft and the following year the NFL
went to its current format of 7 rounds. Still, Vai Sikahema is among the
greatest overachievers in NFL history, and has continued to be a
"gold-standard" human being and Latter-day Saint since his football
That's right you did cost us the Citris Bowl! Bad memory!
