Excellent game for "all" the Jazz players and coaches here tonight.
What a great way to go out "like a bear"!
CJ disappoints again by having a great game. 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5
assists. Thus causing confusion as to should the Jazz take next year's option
or let him test free agency? Fans are torn and the front office feels the same.
The drama continues........Sleepless nights for KOC as he isn't too sure who he
is signing as CJ appears to have two personalities.
That game was a lot of fun to watch. Wish Favors got more minutes. When he was
in there he did awesome. Those 3 blocks and that post move leading to the
tomahawk was sweet. They played good defense too, that was cool.
Anyway, I like how they are closing the season.
CJ might not be with the Jazz next year if the Jazz move up another notch in the
draft and are able to draft Harrison Barnes. Looks like Barnes might stay in
college another year, though, and I'm thinking the Jazz will not choose a
project for the front line but will go PG instead with the NJ/Utah pick.
Now Harrison Barnes is better than CJ. It gets better every time I log on here.
Just wondering, has Barnes ever played a game in the NBA to know that? Why
wouldn't the Jazz just package their picks for a proven shooter instead of
taking their chances to draft an unproven one?
@C.J. Miles.We won't trade for a "proven" shooter because
we are still a young team and our core of Favors and Hayward need time. Lets say we trade for a shooter like you say. He gets here. Does that
instantly make us a contender for a championship? No, I don't think so. Rookies
need a few years. If we get that shooter now and his contract is up in 2 years
around the time they are finally ready what good does that do us if he
leaves?Thats why we build through the draft. Then we trade when our
rookies are ready for that. (Check OKC model). And yes, mark my words now. Save
this on your clipboard. Harrison Barnes will have a much better career than C.J.
who shows up every 5 games.
Aghh, CJ was finally getting consistent- consistently bad.Oh well...I'm
not sure what the front office does with CJ after this great outing. He even
defended his man well tonight. And I'm also not sure what Corbin's
doing.... Your team is up by 12 points. There's 3 minutes in the 4th quarter.
Put in your rooks! Don't empty out the garbage players, but please put in Evans,
Favors, and Hayward. Those 3 need to grow with each other.....
Jazzrule: Why can't this team compete next year? AK's salary off the books and
trade Memo's expiring contract for a proven player and get some bench help we
are better than Portland and maybe as good as Dallas.
@C.J. MilesI guess my hope is more than just being as good as
Portland. I want a championship caliber team and my opinion is that Favors and
Hayward are a big part of that. Lets face it they need time to grow to get to
that spot. Examples I can think of are Derrick Rose (drafted 2008),
Durant/Westbrook (drafted 2007 & 2008).To me (I think you agree
with this) Favors is our starting PF of the future. Most of the time players
make that leap between their 2nd and 3rd years. Somewhere around there. I just
think that I'd rather get the team stacked where we need to and then make the
adjustments as those guys get used to the NBA.Realistically, I think
C.J. should be coming off the bench with Millsap. Him and Millsap would be good
coming off the bench. I don't know if C.J. can be consistent though. Thats my
concern. I don't see him as the starting SF for us. I see Favors and Hayward
there for sure and Jefferson, I just don't know about the 1 and 3 spots.
It was nice to see CJ have a good game, it is frustrating that he struggles so
much but nice when he plays well. I think the Jazz will pick up the option on
CJ, he is cheap and young, they will likely give him one more chance. I
too, would have liked to see Favors get more time, he needs it, I hope he works
hard on the weights during the summer, with hard work on moves, shooting and the
weights, he could really be tough by the time the season starts. I'd love to see
the Jazz hire Malone as a specialty coach to work with Favors during the summer.
Favors would definitely come back in shape and stronger.Love how Hayward
plays the game, he should come back next year with increased confidence and a
better understanding of how they want him to play.I hope the Suns win
tonight, so they stay ahead of the Jazz record wise, we need to keep the 12th
pick. I hope Washington wins tomorrow at Cleveland, that would tie them with NJ,
the Kings tied NJ already, we could move up to 4th, with a little luck.
Sounds like two awful teams playing awful ball.
Jazzrule: I will agree that Favors should/will start at the 4 next year and
Millsap will come off the bench. I think Harris has the talent to
play the 1 for the Jazz if he would choose to use some of his quickness on
defense and look to pass a little more along the way.I like
Jefferson at the 5 as long as Favors is at the 4.I may like CJ at
the 2 with Hayward coming off the bench. I think CJ plays smarter as a starter
and is more wild off the bench. The Jazz need to find a 3 and a
backup 3.I think young teams can compete since Millsap, CJ, and
Harris have been in the playoffs in the past.
I hope we never have to watch cj again!
Doc J: Then don't follow the Jazz next year because he will be a starter all
year long!! Do they have radio and TV in Manti?
Favors and Harwood will both be very good NBA starters for many years...Favors
is the most valuable guy on the roster.Jefferson can stay. I do not
care if Milsap goes...and I love Milsap...Favors and Jefferson are just better.
Milsap can stay if he is content playing a role...which he should be able to do.
I hope he does...I like his toughness. Harris is OK until we get someone better.
Memo, Linko, cj, Price, Bell and Fancisco can all go. I like Price and Elson
and even Raja on a contender...but if we are rebuilding we do not need these
guys. Bell's leadership has not been quite as good as advertised. cj just never
turned out...after six years of trying with him. Linko and Memo are very
soft...we need guys that are in uniform...ready to play. I liked both of these
Euros at times but it is time to move on...time to get more for Greg's Dollar.
I have been kinda hard on Harris since he got here and I'm still not sure how
much I like him but he had a decent game. I would like to see him get more
assists, 5 isn't good enough. I like CJ's skill set, so I'll always be
hoping and rooting that he gets his act together, so far in his career it is
hard to stay positive about him as he is sooooooo inconsistent. His contract is
cheap and with so many young players, I think the Jazz will keep him and hope
for the best.I do think Hayward is the 2 of the future for the Jazz
however and I guess we'll have to wait and see how CJ pans out. I actually like
CJ and Hayward on the court together, if CJ can become consistent and Hayward
continues to improve, they would spread the floor and open things up for Big Al
To make this draft weaker, PJones has decided to stay in school, he is one of
the players I was hoping the Jazz could end up with. This may end up being
a year in which several of the top 10 players will come from Europe. I like
Vesely, Kanter, & Jonas. TJones from Kentucky may be a good pick up and
Jimmer may sneak in there too.The Suns were able to sneak out the win
tonight and stay one game ahead of the Jazz, record wise, so we still have the
12th pick, so far.
I would be cautious depending on the draft to fix our problems. There are quite
a few teams out there with all five starters as lottery picks and the team still
stinks.I say keep CJ around. He's knows the system and we can keep
him for cheap but definitely look to draft a small forward to develop under
him.If we run the offense through Hayward and CJ which has proven
very effective I think Harris will work as our point guard. CJ is not a pure
shooter and we need someone who can take that role so he doesn't have to fill it
and can slash and drive more but he needs to learn to pass better when he does
that. There might not be enough room for both him and Hayward as starters.
Hayward is the future of this team but we can keep CJ around while we find his
replacement at the 3.This might sound crazy but maybe getting Jimmer
to stretch the floor might not be a bad idea and we're in perfect position in
the draft to get him.
CJ Miles | 9:12 p.m. April 11, 2011 Dallas, TXNow Harrison Barnes is
better than CJ. It gets better every time I log on here. Just wondering, has
Barnes ever played a game in the NBA to know that?-------------How
many games has CJ played? The offensive half of about a third of them...
cj is playing small forward, hayward is the shooting guard, there are some
confused people, i should just retire.
There's still no jazz in Utah, nor blues. Pity.
I agree with JazzRule...If we are rebuilding its better to stack the talent and
let them grow as a unit...@Captain Lis that confirmed
reports that Perry Jones wont put his name on the draft? if so...the weak draft
talent just got a whole lot weaker...it has to be Kanter now...im not even sure
which position he would play for us...or package the picks...unless we get
IF the Jazz add up what has been sitting on the bench for a majority of the
season due to injury it would have made a difference. Okurs 10 M for the entire
season AK's 17 M for 1/4 of the season and Bell's 5 M since he got benched and
depressed and Price 3 M since he has not had a good game the Jazz should be able
to buy...well let see. that would more than pay Kobe's salary, more than enough
to pay LeBron James or Dwayne Wade.Jazz should maybe look at paying
some really qualified all-stars to play on the team. It may make a difference.
The Jazz have some serious things to consider this off season. If Harris is your
starting point guard, then you need to change some of the offense and run more.
They should use some of the Spurs plays. Parker doesn't have a great outside
shot but he lives in the paint. The Spurs also have great outside shooting to
spread the floor. Second, If Jefferson is your number one scorer,
then you need to surround him with consistent 3 point shooting, otherwise, teams
can clog the lane and make him less effective. My take on CJ, keep
him or not, however, he should never be more than someone you bring off the
bench to see if he makes his first couple of shots. If he does play him. If he
doesn't bench him. I love how Jazz homers/announcers say they love
Milsap at the 3 and what a big line up it is....except that it is smaller than
when you play AK at the three?? Paul isn't the long term answer there.
@Doug10AK's 17 million is a result of the Jazz locking in what was
supposed to be a qualified All-Star.
@DougDude, even Lebron doesn't get paid as much as AK. I think the
only salary I've seen that is more bloated was Kobe's, Gasol's, and Dwight
Howard's. But they rightfully deserve it.It's a HUGE anchor. I bet
KOC will actually grow back some hair after it's done.
Here's a list of players in addition to AK that made over 17 million this
year:GarnettNowitskiMingBryantGasolRandolphReddArenasCarterDuncanLewisSo there were 12 in all. It is surprising that for Orlando it was not Dwight
Howard making this kind of money, but it was Gilbert Arenas. So if you think
it's frustrating paying that kind of money to AK, imagine having to pay it to
Don't get too excited. David West is out for the season. That hurts the
Hornets. CJ is still shooting 40% on the season and 32% on threes.
Corbin has to be in a tough position right now. It must be hard to coach a team
when you benefit more from losing than you do from winning. I was rooting for
the Jazz this game but every time the Jazz win they get closer to the 13th pick
instead of the 12th. Good thing Phoenix won too. I don't know who I'll be
rooting for next Jazz game.I really hope I don't have to root
against the Jazz this time next year. The real race though is for the
4th pick. If the nets lose and the Kings win the Jazz will get the 5th pick, but
if the Wizards win as well then the Jazz could get the 4th pick if they can win
a coin toss.
So if the Jazz do get the 4th pick by some miracle who should they take? Irving,
Williams, and Barnes will most likely be the top 3, if Barnes comes out. Who is
the 4th best player? I think there is a big drop off after those 3.
Stern will not let the Jazz have one of the top 3 Ping Pong balls!
Jefferson is playing well and if he could move to forward, the Jazz would be
great. That means that they need to target Kanter from Kentucky (Turkey)
because he is a beast. Don't forget that Tomic is waiting in the wings. It
looks like Jimmer at 12 because he is a fan favorite. The fans "pay the
freight". Harris is selfish and for that reason they need a better point
guard. Favors is still the "cat's meow". They have some pieces.
Fesenko needs to be sent to Europe for one or two years to play. He has heart.
Didn't he push the Lakers around his last trip? He has to be handled and not
"kicked around" psychologically.
redcliffs, your list proves there are idiot GMs in other cities, too.
If we get the 4th pick we might get Walker, he already confirmed will be on the
draft. I think Harris plays well but he needs more people to run with him, that
is why he is not passing the ball that much. I agree with some of you about
keeping C.J. but not as a starter. I hope we can keep A.K. but for the right
salary. Then our lineup will look like this: Harris, Hayward, A.K. Favors and Al
is a long and fast line up to compete. And comming of the bench Earl, Walker,CJ,
Paul and Memo? Kanter or Tomic.
I'd jump for joy if Utah somehow pulled of getting Barnes or Derick Williams out
our first pick then Fredette or Kemba Walker out of our second. We'd have to
get really lucky to have it happen though. Starting1-Harris,
2-Hayward, 3-Barnes/Williams, 4-Favors, 5-JeffersonSubs1-Kemba/Fredette, 2-CJ, 3-AK, 4-Milsap/Evans, 5-Tomic/Fes.Assuming
AK can be signed at a reasonable amount ~$6M. I also assume CJ's contract is
going to be picked up by Utah. He is still on cheap side, I don't think he is
worth much more.
FYI many people are projecting Enes Kanter and Jonas Valanciunas going at 4 and
5 in the draft now that Perry Jones is not coming out. Both of them are 6-10
inside players. If Utah has the 4th pick do they draft the best
available or do they overpay for a lower prospect that fills a need. I'm kind
of hoping we trade up. If we could get somehow package CJ + the New Jersey pick
to move up 2 spots and get Barnes or Williams I would be happy.
AK is only available half of the time...so he is worth about 1 million or
less! When he is good he is awesome but When is going to be suited
Re Kyle loves:I think once the team workouts start there is going to be
some players shoot up the draft boards and narrow the gap between 3 and 4-6. I
think the Kentucky players Kanter, Terrence Jones, and Knight will all move up.
Jones had to sacrifice his offensive numbers a lot because Kentucky went to a
more spread out offense later in the year, but his measurables, athleticism, and
the fact that he can be a lock down defender are really going to appeal to
teams. Whether we get the 4th or 6th pick I think the Jazz should
get the best available player and not the player who fills the biggest need.
With the second pick I think it would make sense to go for the best PG left.
Gotta keep in mind that being #5 doesn't necessarily mean you pick #5. In fact,
if I did the math right, there's a 50% chance that either the 5th or 6th seed
will pick in the top 3. No use trying to figure out who's going to be available
when the Jazz pick until after the lottery.
Miles you kill me, must be that oil evap in the air in Texas. I agree CJ coming
off the bench is worse than him starting. So to have him start for that reason
alone is a terrible reason. There is no way he can start and be consistent it's
just not him. He comes in at the 2 off the bench and if he's hot then feed him
if not then you rotate him with Jimmer if we get him, not that I want to but if
we do that's what should happen. If CJ can't mentally do that then adios! If you
really think he would start on any other team in the NBA you are crazy. He will
be a bench guy as he should be.
I love how you say CJ can't play basketball but you always want to package him
with a draft pick to move up the board. I am confused? If he can't play, why
would another team want him? Or trade for him? What that says to me
is you think CJ has huge value on the trade market. Which would lead me to
conclude he must be as good as I say he is in the NBA. Teams only trade for
players that they think can help their team. Truth..........CJ could
start on most NBA teams in this league. CJ as a starter, puts up more points
than most NBA players on any team. All teams are looking for scorers. That's
what sells tickets. CJ can score and for that reason will be in the NBA for a
I wonder if the people who "don't care if Millsap goes" are the same
who scream "what about loyalty?" whenever Matthews' name comes up?CJ had a great game. Based on his pattern the next one should be around
the 6th game next season.Ron Boone noticed something about CJ. Said
in warmups every one of his shots looks different (feet placement, etc), while
every one of Hayward's looks the same. Hornacek said CJ's main problem is taking
the ball too far in back of his head.OK, so is CJ being coached on
this with specific drills? Did the great gurus Sloan & Johnson ever notice
this, and work with CJ on it, or just expect him to figure it out himself
"like John & Karl"? I'd honestly like to know. If so,
it's on CJ. If not, it's still on him but we also need coaches and better ways
to evaluate the next ones.
I hope they'll make some off season moves...Millsap should be sold
High...probably for a a pick at next year's draft from cleveland + Anthony
Parker...i hope al jeff put some muscle...this year's draft is getting thinner
by the day...
Ha ha ha "There is No Jazz in Utah". Yeah, well there is 'No Saints'
in New Orleans either - yet thats the name of their football team. Maybe the
Jazz and Saints should switch names......
Whats wrong with switching to the Hornets either, isn't our state logo a
"beehive"? Whatever. First things first though. Go get a free agent or
two Kevin and do with the draft picks as needed, there are some nice FA like
Chris Wilcox, Shannon Brown ect.
the Hornets are going to the playoffs and the Jazz are not
Gizmo33 has it right on the money!
enough with cj already. if a team depends on CJ to have good game to win then
that team is sunk! if you have CJ as a 7th or 8th option, then his cheap
contract is worth it. he's had 6 years in the league already. let's stop
dreaming of his potentials. enough!
@VinceChris Wilcox is a bit old but he showed glimpses of his old
self...but still..another PF will not help our team...Shannon Brown is a bit
small for the 2...
Kakashi, Wilcox has been in the league 8 years, how many has C.J. been here? 6 I
believe, and their games are completely different from a maturity aspect and I
also think it sometimes takes around 7-9 years to peak in this legue. As for
Shannon Brown he is 6'4" and quite frankly because of jumping ability can
play like a 6'7" or better. Youth and size doesn't always cut it depending?
Why is nobody talking about Nick Young as a FA addition.... that would be my top
choice followed by Marcus Thorton in a close second bc he would be a nice value
and alot cheaper then Nick Young...This years draft is turning into
such a disapointment... no Perry Jones ... and sombody mentioned Terence Jones
dont even go there, that guy cant shoot on the move at all and didnt show much
in the tourny... Imo we are gonna just have to go best player avail
and Kemba Walker is just that at 6th pick, a tweener but he is one of those rare
players that can create space with the best of them , and we all know he is a
winner ... so why nobody is talking about him for the jazz is strange to me..
you cant make a bad pick just bc your drafting for position.. its better to just
get as much talent on the team as possible...We can get a SG in free agency..
