Now lets stay injury free, at least non-season ending injury free it still is
"Teams with the most coverage on ESPN will have the advantage in recruiting
against teams with lesser coverage" Urban Meyer. Thanks Urban you can be
an Cougar Club Member and someday you will learn to say BYU.
Good to see Chambers handling things like a man. This could be a major
turnaround story even he his contributions as a football player are minor his
example of hard work and dicipline would be unforgetable.
I will be attending my first ever Blue-White game today. It's a good send-off,
seeing as I'll be on my mission for what could be two of the best years of BYU
football in a long, long time.GO COUGARS!
what in the world did Chambers do to warrent a year and a half suspension?
Good question, hedgie, Yeah, it sounds like Chambers is really on Bronco's bad
side. He must have really ticked him off. I'm really surprised he is still
around. I would think he could get a nice scholarship and play for a smaller
Any know if there is any audio for this? My wife left me for Time
Out for Women, so it'd be fun to get some sports in this weekend.
I'm pretty sure ksl is covering this with radio.. Check their site
Chambers mom must be pressuring him to stay. Chambers football career is all but
shot at the Y. It will be interesting to see if this guy cracks.
"He had a chance to be released (from his scholarship) and he was released
to go anywhere he wanted to go and he won't go."The whole Chambers
situation is a bit puzzling and this statement by Bronco is nonsensical. It
seems as if Chambers has been in the dog house since day 1 and it has never been
a good fit.Either way, if he is staying at BYU to get a degree good for
He also had serious academic problems... it's not all Bronco's disciplinary
actions going on here....and besides hedgie and others... it's none of your
business. If he's willing to sit it out more... power to him.
@Where's Stockton:". . .and besides hedgie and others... it's
none of your business."I beg to differ. I think there is a
story here of public interest. I don't need to know what he did to get thrown in
the dog-house, but a big, physical, talented, non-LDS, black athlete staying at
BYU while being suspended indefinitely from the football team begs the question,
"Why?'. There is something very compelling that is keeping him here and I,
for one, would like to know what it is.
"a big, physical, talented, non-LDS, black athlete staying at BYU while
being suspended indefinitely from the football team begs the question,
"Why?'."I agree. Also from a public relations perspective
the Y's going to need to juggle what appears to be a mainly minority issue.
@hedgehog | 9:18 a.m. April 9, 2011"what in the world did

Hedgie, that is none of our business.I am sure that Chambers is
staying at BYU because there are some things that are more important than
The more BYU messes with its own athletes, all of the more players won't want to
ever join the team in Provo in the first place. Let's face it, the
team in Provo has some soul searching to do. And Mr. Holmoe wonders why the PAC
declined to invite his school. And no, you didn't deserve a "courtesy"
What I can't figure out is what exactly BYU is playing for in football? No
conference championship and no way to get to a real bowl game. But
because I would like to be supportive of the strange move to become independent,
I have a generous offer. Utah's going to be playing for PAC championships and
Rose Bowl bids and what not. So I think the Utes should take themselves out of
the running for the Beehive Boot.Just think Cougars, you'll only
have to beat Weber State and the Aggies to win the Boot. I don't think you'll
lose to USU every year like last year -- so I expect you take the Boot to Provo
from time to time. Clear out some space in the trophy case down
there in Provo!
Are you saying that because you won't be winning it next year?
I Still Can't Say It,BYU Student is right. Remind me again, how
many times has Utah won it the past 5 years? Unless I'm mistaken, Utah is tied
with Utah State in number of Beehive Boot victories in the past 5 years.Quite frankly, I don't think it matters whether or not Utah is elegible
to win it. The result will be the same most of the time.
Love all of the interest from u fans in the real university of utah football
program which resides in Provo!
The spring game was great. Lots of enthusiasm and excitement on this team.
Heaps and Nelson were both very good. Nelson's TD pass to Rhen Brown was a
thing of beauty. This is going to be a very good team! On the post game radio
commentary, it was pointed out that there are only two schools in the country
that have both football and basketball head coaches who are in the top ten
highest winning percentage of active coaches. Those two schools are Ohio State
and BYU - it sure is great to be a Cougar!
Re: idabluYou mean a big, physical, talented, non-LDS, black athlete
that had 5 whole catches last year and dropped or fumbled at least that same
number? Look, Chambers is a good player, but that's about the extent of it.
People talk about him like he like he's a flipping heisman candidate when what
he's done with his career has been slightly above average at best. While he had
good potential, at the end of the day he was just another cog in a system.
Chambers has not been as irreplaceable as people have said. In fact, the
receiver position has proven to be just fine without him.I think the
reason he's staying at BYU (at least the one I hope for) is that he's finally
changed his attitude. Bronco cares about what is happening in his player's off
the field lives even more than what happens on the field, and that is saying a
lot since he cares a lot about what happens on the field. If Chambers comes away
from his experiences at BYU having learned life lessons then his time at BYU has
not been a waste.
The only reason BYU was not invited to the Pac 10 is they do not play on Sunday
so it was never an option. BYU has always had the best all-around sports
program in the Mountain West and by double the largest fan base. Why is this
question and that of independence ever debated? They are no-brainers.
Re: hedgehogIs it BYU's fault that they are the only school that
really chooses to have diversity on their team? The ironic thing is that
contrary to popular belief BYU has probably the most ethnic diversity of any
team in the country (Black, Caucasian, Polynesian, even the occasional Asian or
Latin American player) instead of just being at least 90% African American like
every other team in the country. So if BYU is in the minority because
they won't conform to the way every one else does things, it really isn't fair
to judge that is it?
Cougar ClawsWell stated! (both of them)Enjoy the snow!
I remember reading an interview with Chambers where he said he actually had a
very vivid dream that he was supposed to go to BYU. This was before anyone at
BYU had ever contacted him or recruited him, he actually contacted BYU 1st
because of this dream and that is how he was recruited and signed with BYU.Just a guess but I would say when someone has something that powerful
happen, that it actually brings them all of the way across the country to a
place, that they don't just release that feeling of needing to be there
easily.Chambers may have reasons completely unrelated to football
for staying at BYU and it seems perhaps football is secondary to those reasons.
No, the reason BYU was not invited to the PAC-10 is because they did/do not meet
the reuirement of being a research university. Having a few research facilities
does not a research school make. Period.
@wvc-utefanNeithers USC. That wasn't the reason. The reason is BYU
is a private LDS school and some of the schools in the lib pac10 didn't want
anything to do with them. I'll guaranty they didn't want to have anything to do
with utah either ut it really came down to a process of eilimination and once
all of the big12 schools rejected them, and BYU wasn't an option for some of
them, utah was pretty much all that was left that actually brought something to
the deal. Granted what utah brings isn't much, but it is more than any other
school, that isn't a private religious school, in the west can bring.Boise is not a very good school academically and is in a very small tv market.
Vegas is an academic joke and the football program stinks. They market is also
smaller than the utah market although I would bet unlv gets more of their market
as followers than utah does. What's left? New Mexico? CSU? There
simply wasn't anyone left to take.
Re: Duckhunter:Whatever helps you sleep at night. BYU is not a
research school. USC is a religious school, so that argument doesn't fly. It's
not the LDS argument. USC, UCLA, and plenty of other PAC-10 schools recruit LDS
players whenever they can. Religion has nothing to do with it. USC has the
research facilities, even if they don't boast being a research school. Deal with
Hedgehog--No, this is not a minority issue or Chambers would have bolted for
another school.Rock, Claws, & Duckhunter: You are probably
right in that Chambers is not leaving despite being shown the door by Bronco
because there is something about BYU that he wants or needs that is not related
to football. As I said before I don't care to know what he did to warrant the
suspension but I have to admire the fact that he is still here, even though it
is a little puzzling.
"No, the reason BYU was not invited to the PAC-10 is because they did/do
not meet the reuirement of being a research university. Having a few research
facilities does not a research school make. Period."Can you
verify that all 10 current PAC-10 schools ARE research schools? Do they all
meet the "requirements"? This was their excuse, but it wasn't their
reason.Overall, BYU is just as good as half the PAC schools
academically, even if it focuses on undergraduate research. BYU does have
graduate programs that are excellent (as well as being in the top 10 in schools
in which students continue to graduate school), as is considered a research
@wvc utefan...Whatever makes you sleep at night, blah, blah, blah.
Yep, ONE thing eliminated BYU from being invited... your piddly
excuse of BYU not being a big research school... yeah that makes a whole lot of
sense.Poltical differences, religious differences and affiliation...
yep, had nothing to do with any of this. Prop. 8 was ok with everyone in
California, Oregon and Washington... Uh huh. Yours is a hollow argument.Face it bub. Utes and CU in the PAC 10.2 was a last minute desperation
move to save face. It was a 'Plan B', an afterthought to the PAC's grand scheme
to form the first 16 team Super Conference.Sorry to break this to
you... most BYU fans could care less about the PAC 10.2. Fans are happy to be
independent. Only BYU could pull this off. The big boys invited UTAH and CU to
create their playoff system. Works great for the BIG boys but I'm not so sure
how it will work for the rookies.Ducky called it right... consider
yourselves as 'leftovers'. I hope it works out for you but I don't expect the
Utes over .500 the first year.
