'When Republicans were a Senate minority in 1991-1992, there were 59 cloture
(filibuster) filings. When President Clinton took office, with Republicans
remaining the minority in the Senate, that number shot up to 80 in 1993-1994.When Democrats reclaimed the Senate majority in the 2006 midterm
elections, cloture filings shot up from 68 in 2005-2006 to a record 139 in

Few memories haunt Republicans more deeply than the 1995-96 partial shutdown of
the federal government, which helped President Bill Clinton reverse his falling
fortunes and recast House Republicans as stubborn partisans, not savvy
Shut it down President Obama. Do not cave and allow this stop-gap to proceed.
Man Republicans are sneaky aren't they. Throw in some defense spending so you
can hide behind the troops. Then throw in measures to stop the health care
bill, and overturn the financial regulations put in place last year, and wrap it
up all nice and neat in a "budget." Lets not let the
Republicans ruin the progress being made by Obama in fixing the last financial
crisis the Republicans started.
Just remember this mess were in and what party handed it off to the other party
voters. The republicans and big business are threating our total existence as
american citizens as I have known it for 60 years. No changes as to how all
financial businesses operate, oil, pharms, insurance, media, ect. The rich have
had it for many years now and they want to now stick the knife in deeper and
totally control "EVERY" aspect of peoples lives. These are lying,
stealing, greedy theives and that is a partial definition of this group of
mongrels! A revolution in this country is right on the doorstep.
Well, I guess this is the "change" a majority of the voters thought
they could live with; a President who threatens to veto any budget the Congress
adopts that doesn't fit his personal ideas of tax and spend and spend some more.
You get what you vote for, or less, never more.
williary,I think you hit it on the head. The real gridlock is over health
care and financial reform.
I was entirely wrong. It is, Senator Reid's own mouth, planned parenthood and
environmental issues that are the gridlock. That is a game changer for me. Count
me on the side of the Republicans on this.
This is 100% the Republicans fault. Obama and Reid have compromised so far over
that they're arguing for the amount of budget cuts Boehner initially demanded.
Boehner now refuses that compromise because they want things like PPH defunding
in there and the tea party pushed him to advocate for more cuts. Well tough,
compromising means you don't get everything you want and we've given up a lot
(you have to be giving up a lot if you're now arguing for Boehner's budget cut
Much like the healthcare ram job. The Democrats need to shut down the
government as soon as possible-so the hapless voters will believe its all the
Republican's fault. The longer they wait and the more facts surface the tide
will turn against the Democrats for the impass and the stupidity and corruption
behind them not even having a budget in place last year.
Enough of the one sided comments. Both parties are equally to blame for the
destruction of freedom and the Constitution in this country. I hope this teaches
America to vote for Americans and not for Democrats or Republicans.
Mr. Gorbachev,Please come and tear down this wall. Our government is much
worse than yours was when you took over there.
Finally, a way to get the troops home from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. Don't
pay them. Brilliant Mr. President, thanks for keeping your election promise.
doesnt really matter ...but the middle class is carrying the load ..and
becomming extinct...the millionaires and billionaires, along with huge
corporations, oil companies don't even get taxed...and we are rolling down hill
like a snowball headed...for...go across country schools are shutting down, the
teaching profession is shunned, the infrastructure is very weak, yet we send our
troops over to go and kill the terrorists when we don't even have secure borders
over here. This thing was a set up long before this administration and will go
back to that no matter what. Maybe we do need a depression to come to some kind
of sense...cuz its guns or butter!
Shut it down. Neither party has the interests of the American people at heart
and they should all go home. Perhaps we can save a little money if we don't have
to keep the lights on in DC tomorrow.I fault both parties for their
inability to reach a compromise. It's just as much the Democrats' fault as it is
the GOP's. Neither side is willing to listen to reason. Remember
these days when election time comes. Vote them all out of office. Vote out all
Obama wont fund the troops but he will fund abortions. Listen to the libs one of
them said taking away funding for planned parenthood was like bombing innocent
civilians. Lets see killing babies is the chosen way. Look the Dems owned the
Gov. and did not present a budget for debate. This crisis is the fault of the
Dems. The reason they could not put up their big spending just before election.
The Republicans are doing just what they were supposed to do as per the
election. Obama needs to go on a permanent vacation that is what he has been
good at. Shut it down!
