Yes! Congratulations Jimmer. Let the awards speak for themselves, you're the best.

Thanks for a great season but more importantly, how you handled yourself despite everything that was going on. You Jimmered the entire season. You are a true sportsman.

All of my other comments notwithstanding, congrats to The Jimmer for the award. You proved me wrong on too many occasions to count, and props where props are due.

Hooray for Jimmer! National POY! Oscar Robertson Awardee!

What an honor! Congratulations to Jimmer, to the team, to the coaches and to BYU. You guys pulled it all together and made it happen.

Could not have happened to a greater guy!

And who doubted? Wow, this is a great day in Cougar Nation! Wow!

    Wow Chris B. I'm shocked.
If I see a compliment from Hedgie I may need a medical team to revive me from the shock.
I didn't think it was possible.

Chris B: Good props. How are we doing in luring Brad Stevens to Utah?

    jazzball,

Don't be shocked. A couple months ago I attracted a few followers who assumed my identity. Curious, but flattering.

Jimmer can shoot(some days) and other days he's awful and doesnt know when to stop?(see 3/15 on 3's against florida).

The peak of byu's program in the last 30 years: a single sweet 16.

    I repeat:

What a team. What a program. What an all american.

The legendary University of Houston "Phi Slama Jama" teams will also be honored on Friday morning.

Coach and player honored. Could it be more sweet?

Kudos to Jimmer for an awesome season! Kudos to Chris B for having the class to admit it. I wish the Cougars good luck in the WCC, I wish the Utes good luck in the PAC, and I will be an instant fan of whichever team picks up Mr. Fredette. I look forward to seeing him play in the NBA on Armed Forces Network next year.

I have to admit it, BYU had a great run this year and it was mostly because of Fredette. He was amazing. Congratulations to him and best wishes in the future

Chris B -- Just like in the business world, what have the Utes done for us lately? How much revenue does the basketball team generate? What awards have they received recently? The past accolades mean nothing...what have you done for me this year? Last year?

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    March 28, 2011 7:30 p.m.

    nottyou,

Nothing. I don't argue my Utes have been awful in basketball lately. If you think post accolades don't mean anything you're in a group of 1 who thinks that Auburn is a weak football team, Duke is a weak basketball team, the Lakers are a weak NBA team, and the Packers are a weak NFL team.

Past(I'll say recent past) accolades mean a great deal in recruiting, whether BCS conferences want you(sorry).

The height of Utah basketball in the last 20 years?

Several sweet 16's, final four, national championship game, #1 pick in the draft.

The height of tds basketball in the last 20 years?

    One sweet 16. Amazing.

Great thinking though in just looking at the past year or two. By that standard 99% of universities are failures.

The difference is that when Utah peaks again it will be in final fours.

When byu peaks again(in 2040) it will be another sweet 16.

    Incredible program.

    Chris B

"my Utes have been awful in basketball lately"

    Lately?

How about awful most of the last 6 years.

In fact, U have to go back to last century, the days of the old WAC, before you find anything Utah has done that tops what BYU accomplished this year.

Bogut's 2005 Sweet Sixteen team was far less impressive, only beating UTEP 60-54 and Oklahoma 67-58, before losing to Kentucky 62-52 in regulation in a game that the Utes trailed the entire game. The highlight of Utah's 12-year run in the MWC.

    12-year MWC History

BYU 276-116(70.4%), 126-54(70.0%) MWC, 6 MWC championships, 8 NCAA tournaments, one losing season, ten 20+ win seasons

Utah 230-150(60.5%), 104-76(57.8%) MWC, 5 MWC championships, 6 NCAA tournaments, four losing seasons, six 20+ win seasons

Utah's overall and conference record during the MWC era pales by comparison to BYU's record.

    It's not even close.

Well, the real Chris B has prophesied, again. Let's all mark it down. Again.

Chris, mark this down. BYU will be back at the dance before Utah.

Our football team will end up next year ranked higher than Utah.

And you will still be you. Pity.

Congratulations Jimmer on a well-deserved honor!

  • SportsFan Orem, UT

    Chris B

Only having to win one or two games to make it to a Final Four is not that impressive.

And when you're seeded into a Sweet Sixteen, that's even less impressive.

When was the last time Utah won 32 games in a season?

Or won 30+ games in back to back seasons?

    Hint: It's never happened!

Sweet. I bought my copy of Sports Illustrated today, the one with a high flying Jimmer on the cover. What a great photo, and what a great year for Jimmer.

    ChrisB:

BYU may have peaked but the Utes haven't bottomed out. 4 losing seasons in 6 years. losing 9 of 10 to BYU, 2 of those being the worst losses at the HC, and coaching candidates who won't touch your program with a ten foot pole.

More losing seasons on the way in the PAC 10.2

Incredible team, incredible coach, incredible program

    @Chris B

Well your graciousness lasted about 5 minutes.

Trust us, a 17 year old recruits sense of history, goes back about 6 months, if that.

Utah's great run in the 90's, when even BYU faithfull were pulling for U, is literally ancient history to kids who were 3 or 4 at the time.

They will however, know all about the Jimmer, BYU and their latest sweet 16 run. That shine won't diminish for years....

Kids all over this land are phrasing Jimmer this & Jimmer that.

They'll check the polls every week and see BYU and not Utah.

They'll see BYU on ESPN & BYU-TV every single game, and won't see Utah.

They'll see BYU at the head of their league, and Utah at the bottom of their's.

Utah will have a very tough sell to get kids/coaches to come there. They can't compete with Arizona, UCLA, Washington and others for the out of state kid and they lost the top LDS kids long ago to BYU, when Judkins was made to sit in the stands and then fired.

40 years? For Utah yes, BYU see you NEXT Year

Come on you guys, Chrissy and Hedge have already stated that Dave Rose is moving to the U, so we know it's a done deal. They were there when coach Rose and Dr. Hill were having lunch at Spaghetti Factory two weeks ago. The U will be back next year with coach Rose and some new JC faces and will thrash the new Pac12.

    Mark it down!

    Back to reality folks...
